• Can the behaviour of new HTML5 form types be overridden?

  I was wondering if anyone knew if it were possible to override the default behaviour of browsers that support the new HTML input types such as type="email" and type="date"? I appreciate that I could test if a browser supports an input type and provide a fallback for those browsers that don't, but what I want to know is is there any way to prevent that default behaviour from happening in browsers that do support it? For instance, if in Opera I want to use the date input type, but I don't want Opera to display the native datepicker (i.e. I want to replace it with my own custom one) is that possible? Are there any DOM events triggered like onDatePickerShow that one can hook into? I don't believe that this is possible, but if anyone knows for sure one way or the other I would love to hear from you.

• Background search for changes in TFS source control

  SourceGear Vault's client app has the ability to background search for changes. This is very useful because at any time I can take a quick peek and see what changes my team members have checked in and that I need to get latest on. This is also helpful for previewing any merges that might be necessary. And on a day to day basis, it helps me get a sense of what parts of the codebase are seeing the most churn. Is there a way to get this same functionality with Team Foundation Server, either with native features or a plugin? I know there is a Compare feature, but it takes way too long to be useful. Unless it could periodically refresh itself like Vault does, but I haven't found a way to do that. Anything new with Visual Studio 2010?

• Convert json to a string using jquery

  I have a nested json. I want to post it as a form input value. But, seems like jquery puts "Object object" string into the value. It seems easier to pass around the string and convert into the native form I need, than dealing with json as I don't need to change anything once it is generated. • Message pump in .NET Windows service

  I have a Windows Service written in C# that handles all of our external hardware I/O for a kiosk application. One of our new devices is a USB device that comes with an API in a native DLL. I have a proper P/Invoke wrapper class created. However, this API must be initialized with an HWnd to a windows application because it uses the message pump to raise asynchronous events. Besides putting in a request to the hardware manufacturer to provide us with an API that does not depend on a Windows message pump, is there any way to manually instantiate a message pump in a new thread in my Windows Service that I can pass into this API? Do I actually have to create a full Application class, or is there a lower level .NET class that encapsulates a message pump?

• How to use AIR 2.0 NativeProcess API with Java?

  How do you use this great new API in connection with Java? Do you use just pure native process API like nativeProcess.standardInput.write() and nativeProcess.standardOutput.read() with which you cannot debug Java side neither invoke remote java method. Or you are using some library that leverages remote method invocation such as flerry lib but that also cannot debug Java side? Or maybe you are using Merapi with which you can debug but cannot remotely invoke Java method? I'm asking this because this is maybe the most important question regarding this API and its ease of use.

I don't care about the consistency of reads from t2 when doing an insert .. select and want to set the transaction isolation level to READ_UNCOMMITTED. How do I go about setting it in JPA?

• Joomla 1.5 Media Manager sets incorrect file permissions when uploading

  Howdy all, I have a Joomla 1.5 installation running on Windows Server 2008, installed via the Web Platform Installer. When uploading images with the media manager (native uploader, not the flash bulk uploader), the files arrive on the server correctly, but are given incorrect permissions. Specifically, the IIS_IUSRS group is not given access to the file. I might be incorrect about what group/user is SUPPOSED to get access to the files, but so far, I've found that unless I give IIS_IUSRS access to the uploaded files, they won't appear on the site or in the media manager (appear as broken images). Once I give IIS_IUSRS permission to the files, they work fine. So far, all the research I've done has led me to linux specific fixes that involve either changing the umask on the server, or directly modifying the Joomla codebase to add an appropriate chmod command to the upload process, but I really don't want to modify Joomla directly. I have to believe there's a setting here somewhere that will do the job, either on the Joomla or Windows side of the equation. Any thoughts? Scott

• ASP.Net Response Filter Clashing with SharePoint 2010 Publishing Site Defaults

  Hello everyone, I'm debugging an HttpModule with an ASP.NET response filter. This dynamically rewrites portions of rendered SharePoint WCM pages. The publishing pages render fine in SP2007 on both Server 2003 and Server 2008. However the equivalent pages fail to render in SP2010 B2 on Server 2008 R2 / IIS7. The following error is returned by ASP.NET: Post cache substitution is not compatible with modules in the IIS integrated pipeline that modify the response buffers. Either a native module in the pipeline has modified an HTTP_DATA_CHUNK structure associated with a managed post cache substitution callback, or a managed filter has modified the response. This error is consistent with KB #2014472. However: Caching is disabled for anonymous & authenticated access at the site collection level There do not appear to be any Substitution controls on either the master or layout page The IIS 7 settings are all stock default This is happening e.g. on /pages/default.aspx. It seems likely I'm missing something cache related...but what?

• Debian Package Control file Question.

  Hello, I need to create a debian package for a java application. In my package there a .jar file which is executable , a script which will run this jar file and a .so file for fmod. I read the tutorial provided at http://tldp.org/HOWTO/html_single/Debian-Binary-Package-Building-HOWTO/ My question is in control file there is a Depends field which basically mentions the packages that need to installed in order to install my application. How do i find which packages are required for my application. I followed the instructions provided in the link for one of the .so and did ~/Desktop/PennTotalRecall/native/fmod/lib/linux64$ dpkg -S libfmodex64-4.28.09.so dpkg: libfmodex64-4.28.09.so not found. It gives above result. Also my application requires java 1.5 to be installed in order for it to run. How do I specify in my debian package. Thanks, AJ

• JavaFX FXML communication between Application and Controller classes

  I am trying to get and destroy an external process I've created via ProcessBuilder in my FXML application close, but it's not working. This is based on the helpful advice Sergey Grinev gave me here. I have tried running with/without the "// myController.setApp(this);" and with "// super.stop();" at top of subclass and at bottom (see commented out/in for that line in MyApp), but no combination works. This probably isn't related to FXML or JavaFX, though I imagine this is a common pattern for developing apps on JavaFX. I suppose I'm asking for a Java best practice for closing dependent processes in a UI-based app like this one (in this case: FXML / JavaFX based), where there is a controller class and an application class. Can you explain what I'm doing wrong? Or better: advise what I should be doing instead? Thanks. • FIPS-compliant encryption in .NET 2.0

  We have a .NET 2.0 application that uses the RijindaelManaged class to encrypt some sensitive data. This was fine until we ran into some machines that require the use of FIPS-compliant algorithms. We'd like to switch to AesCryptoServiceProvider, but most of our target machines haven't upgraded past .NET 2.0. Requiring an upgrade is out of the question. After all, upgrades are scary! Is there any way we could use AesCryptoServiceProvider in a .NET 2.0 application? Since 3.5 uses the 2.0 CLR, I was hoping there might be a way to build the needed libraries into the app. Failing that, could someone point me to a reference on the native API that's wrapped by AesCryptoServiceProvider?

  Hi, I have a custom Dialog on my app and I have a problem to do what I would like. I explain. My Dialog have had 4 Buttons. (Back, Valid, Modify and Restore) When user click on Modify or Valid I would like to call another activity. So I use Intent but it crash.   Using the Apache Http stack on Android, I'm trying to force a thread out of a call to read.   I recently updated my computer to a more powerful one, with a quad-core hyperthreading processor (i7), thus plenty of real concurrency available. Now I'm occasionally getting the following error when quitting (System.exit(0)) an application (with a Swing GUI) that I'm developing: Exception while removing reference: java.lang.InterruptedException java.lang.InterruptedException at java.lang.Object.wait(Native Method) at java.lang.ref.ReferenceQueue.remove(ReferenceQueue.java:118) at java.lang.ref.ReferenceQueue.remove(ReferenceQueue.java:134) at sun.java2d.Disposer.run(Disposer.java:125) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) Well, given that it started to happen with a more concurrency-capable hardware, and it has to do with threads, and it happens occasionally, it's obviously some kind of timing thing. But the problem is that the stack trace is so short. All I have is the listing above. It doesn't include my own code at all, so it's somewhat hard to guess where the bug is. Has anyone experienced something like this before? Any ideas how to start solving it?

I have tried using basic javascript functions to return the relative position but I only have access to the contentDocument since the SVG is embeded using an OBJECT tag. Because of this I cannot recurse thru the elements to find the position of the element position... • Interaction between Java and Android

  I am currently trying to research how to use Android with an existing java based system. Basically, I need to communicate to/from an Android application. The system currently passes object data from computer to computer using ActiveMQ as the JMS provider. On one of the computers is a display which shows object data to the user. What we want to do now is use a phone (running Android) as another option to show this object data to a user with wifi/network access. Ideally we would like to have a native application on the Android that would listen to the ActiveMQ topic and publish to another Topic and read/write/display the object data, but from some research I have done, I am not sure if this is possible. What are some other ways to approach this problem? The android Phone needs to be able to send/receive data. I have been using the AndroidEmulator for testing.

• Is there a way to tell JVM to optimize my code before processing?

  I have a method, which takes much time to execute first time. But after several invocations, it takes about 30 times less time. So, to make my application respond to user interaction faster, I "warm-up" this method (5 times) with some sample data on initialization of application. But this increases app start-up time. I read, that JVM's can optimize and compile my java code to native, thus speeding things up. I wanted to know - maybe there is some way to explicitly tell JVM that I want this method to be compiled on startup of application?

In normal Java this results in tedious for loops, if statements etc... Are there alternative ways to achieve tree navigation, similar to XPath for XML? I know there is JXPath and OGNL, but do you know any other libraries for such purpose? Do you know any libraries which generate bytecodes for specific tree navigation expressions to make the processing as fast as Java native fors and ifs?

  I'm building a GWT app where I want to be able to detect when a user releases a scroll bar on one of my ScrollPanels. My use case is that the horizontal scroll bar represents time. Since it's impossible to represent the full range of scrollable time I want to just represent a small window of time with the scroll bar. When the user moves and releases the scroll bar I want to do a smooth recentering where the new center is the release point. I can work out how to do this by building a custom scroll bar widget, but I wanted to check if I was missing some way to do it using a "native" scroll bar first.

  I am trying to copy a file using the following code: File targetFile = new File(targetPath + File.separator + filename); ... targetFile.createNewFile(); fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(fileToCopy); fileOutputStream = new FileOutputStream(targetFile); byte[] buffer = new byte[64*1024]; int i = 0; while((i = fileInputStream.read(buffer)) != -1) { fileOutputStream.write(buffer, 0, i); } For some users the targetFile.createNewFile results in this exception: java.io.IOException: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect at java.io.WinNTFileSystem.createFileExclusively(Native Method) at java.io.File.createNewFile(File.java:850) Filename and directory name seem to be correct. The directory targetPath is even checked for existence before the copy code is executed and the filename looks like this: AB_timestamp.xml The user has write permissions to the targetPath and can copy the file without problems using the OS. As I don't have access to a machine this happens on yet and can't reproduce the problem on my own machine I turn to you for hints on the reason for this exception.

• C++ Project compiles as static lib, fails (linker error) as dynamic lib. why??

  Hi All. I've a VS2008 native C++ project, that I wish to compile as a DLL. It only references one external library (log4cplus.lib), and uses its functions. (also uses log4cplus's .h files , naturally). When I try to compile my project as a static library, it succeeeds. When I try as DLL, it fails : 1>MessageWriter.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol "public: static class log4cplus::Logger __cdecl log4cplus::Logger::getInstance(class std::basic_string<wchar_t,struct std::char_traits<wchar_t>,class std::allocator<wchar_t> > const &)" (?getInstance@Logger@log4cplus@@SA?AV12@ABV?$basic_string@_WU?$char_traits@_W@std@@V?$allocator@_W@2@@std@@@Z) referenced in function "class log4cplus::Logger __cdecl Log(void)" (?Log@@YA?AVLogger@log4cplus@@XZ) There are 4 more errors just like this related to functions within log4cplus.lib.
