• Python profiler and CPU seconds

  Hey, I'm totally behind this topic. Yesterday I was doing profiling using Python profiler module for some script I'm working on, and the unit for time spent was a 'CPU second'. Can anyone remind me with the definition of it? For example for some profiling I got: 200.750 CPU seconds. What does that supposed to mean? At other case and for time consuming process I got: -347.977 CPU seconds, a negative number! Is there anyway I can convert that time, to calendar time? Cheers,

• Django and Google App Engine Helper not finding the ipaddr module.

  I'm trying to get Django running on GAE using this tutorial. When I run python manage.py runserver I get the stacktrace below. I'm new to both django and python so I don't know what my next steps are (This is Ubuntu Jaunty btw). It seems django isn't finding the GAE module ipaddr which comes with SDK 1.3.1. • Parsing unicode XML with Python SAX on App Engine

  I'm using xml.sax with unicode strings of XML as input, originally entered in from a web form. On my local machine (python 2.5, using the default xmlreader expat, running through app engine), it works fine. However, the exact same code and input strings on production app engine servers fail with "not well-formed". • How do I get ftype & assoc to match Windows Explorer?

  I changed the association to use upon launching a .py file, via Windows Explorer: Tools - Folders - File types. Then browse to .py. Change the association to Wordpad. Now when I type the name of a py file in the command line, Wordpad opens it. But assoc and ftype in the command line still return the following: C:\> assoc .py .py = Python.File C:\> ftype Python.File Python.File = "C:\Program\Python27\python.exe" "%1" %* How come the association is working, but assoc and ftype are not aware of it? I did restart the prompt.   I have two numpy arrays 1D, one is time of measurement in datetime64 format, for example: array([2011-11-15 01:08:11, 2011-11-16 02:08:04, ..., 2012-07-07 11:08:00], dtype=datetime64[us]) and other array of same length and dimension with integer data. I'd like to make a plot in matplotlib time vs data. If I put the data directly, this is what I get: plot(timeSeries, data) Is there a way to get time in more natural units? For example in this case months/year would be fine.

• Pylibmc requiring libmemcached >= 0.32

  On Ubuntu, I installed libmemcached-dev using the following command: apt-get install libmemcached-dev Unfortunately it installs libmemcached version 0.31, and pylibmc requires that I compile with v 0.32+ to run, otherwise I get an import error. I've tried removing libmemcached-dev with apt-get --purge remove, then installing libmemcached v 0.38, then re-compiling pylibmc, but it still gives me the requires libmemcached v 0.32+ error.

  I am on centos5. I installed python26 source with a make altinstall. Then I did a: yum install qt4 yum install qt4-devel yum install qt4-doc From riverbankcomputing.co.uk I downloaded the source for sip 4.10.2, compiled and installed fine. Then from the same site I downloaded and compiled from source PyQt-x11-4.7.3 Both installs were using the python26 version (/usr/local/bin/python2.6). So configure.py, make, and make install worked with no errors.   Hi All, I'm still not sure this is the correct way to go about this, maybe not, but I'll ask anyway. I'd like to re-write wordpress (justification: because I can) albeit more simply myself in Django and I'm looking to be able to configure elements in different ways on the page. So for example I might have: Blog models A site update message model A latest comments model. Now, for each page on the site I want the user to be able to choose the order of and any items that go on it. In my thought process, this would work something like: class Page(models.Model) Slug = models.CharField(max_length=100) class PageItem(models.Model) Page = models.ForeignKey(Page) ItemType = models.CharField(max_length=100) InstanceNum = models.IntegerField() # all models have primary keys. Then, ideally, my template would loop through all the PageItems in a page which is easy enough to do. But what if my page item is a site update as opposed to a blog post? Basically, I am thinking I'd like to pull different item types back in different orders and display them using the appropriate templates. Now, I thought one way to do this would be to, in views.py, to loop through all of the objects and call the appropriate view function, return a bit of html as a string and then pipe that into the resultant template. My question is - is this the best way to go about doing things? If so, how do I do it? If not, which way should I be going? I'm pretty new to Django so I'm still learning what it can and can't do, so please bear with me. I've checked SO for dupes and don't think this has been asked before...

• Parse html and find data in the html

  Hi all. I am trying to use html5lib to parse an html page in to something I can query with xpath. html5lib has close to zero documentation and I've spent too much time trying to figure this problem out. Ultimate goal is to pull out the second row of a table: <html> <table> <tr><td>Header</td></tr> <tr><td>Want This</td></tr> </table> </html> so lets try it: >>> doc = html5lib.parse('<html><table><tr><td>Header</td></tr><tr><td>Want This</td> </tr></table></html>', treebuilder='lxml') >>> doc <lxml.etree._ElementTree object at 0x1a1c290> that looks good, lets see what else we have: >>> root = doc.getroot() >>> print(lxml.etree.tostring(root)) <html:html xmlns:html="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><html:head/><html:body><html:table><html:tbody><html:tr><html:td>Header</html:td></html:tr><html:tr><html:td>Want This</html:td></html:tr></html:tbody></html:table></html:body></html:html> LOL WUT? seriously. I was planning on using some xpath to get at the data I want, but that doesn't seem to work. So what can I do? I am willing to try different libraries and approaches.
