  • NGINX + PHP FPM connect() failed (110: Connection timed out) while connecting to upstream

    We're running a fairly large site using nginx and PHP-FPM and we're getting a lot of errors as the site load is quite high. We're getting "connect() failed (110: Connection timed out) while connecting to upstream"...upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000" Here's my config file for PHP-FPM. PHP-FPM: [www] listen = 127.0.0.1:9000 listen.allowed_clients = 127.0.0.1 user = nginx group = nginx pm = dynamic pm.max_children = 100 pm.start_servers = 20 pm.min_spare_servers = 5 pm.max_spare_servers = 35 pm.max_requests = 100 slowlog = /var/log/php-fpm/www-slow.log php_admin_value[error_log] = /var/log/php-fpm/www-error.log php_admin_flag[log_errors] = on What's the recommended config/number of servers/children for a high traffic site? We tried using Unix Sockets instead of TCP and got no noticeable improvements. Right now the errors are: connect() to unix:/var/run/php-fcgi.sock failed (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) while connecting to upstream...upstream: "fastcgi://unix:/var/run/php-fcgi.sock:"...   • Setting alias for DynDNS domain

    Hey all, I've created DynDNS domain for testing my local sites, and i'm having trouble with pointing to root domain. From my registrar (GoDaddy) I've created a CNAME for www to point my example.dyndns.com so going to url www.example.com I'm reaching my site. But if I'm going to example.com I'm reaching to the IP of the A record. I can't set the IP for the A record to be my IP because I have dynamic IP, and it changes constatly, and I can't point the A record to domain, only IP. When trying to create CNAME record @ to point example.dyndns.com I'm getting error "A record of a different type exists for the hostname @, could not create CNAME" The only record using the '@' host are NS record, which I can't delete, and when tried to set another NS record with @ point to example.dyndns.com, I've lost connection to my site :) So what can I do to get example.com url reach my site?   • Windows forms application blocks after station lock

    We're having a serious issue at work. We've discovered that after the station where the client was running is locked/unlocked the client is blocked. No repaint. So the UI thread is blocked with something. Looking at the callstack of the UI thread (thread 0) using windbg we see that a UserPreferenceChanged event gets raised. It is marshalled through a WindowsFormsSynchronizationContext using it's controlToSend field to the UI. It gets blocked by a call to the marshalling control. The method called is MarshaledInvoke it builds a ThreadMethodEntry entry = new ThreadMethodEntry(caller, method, args, synchronous, executionContext); This entry is supposed to do the magic. The call is a synchronous call and because of that (still in the MarshaledInvoke of the Control class) the wait call is reached: if (!entry.IsCompleted) { this.WaitForWaitHandle(entry.AsyncWaitHandle); } The last thing that i can see on the stack is the WaitOne called on the previously mentioned AsyncWaitHandle. This is very annoying because having just the callstack of the runtime and not one of our methods being invoked we cannot really point to a bug in our code. I might be wrong, but I'm guessing that the marshaling control is not "marshaling" to the ui thread. But another one...i don't really know which one because the other threads are being used by us and are blocked...maybe this is the issue. But none of the other threads are running a message loop. This is very annoying. We had some issues in the past with marshaling controls to the right ui thread. That is because the first form that is constructed is a splash form. Which is not the main form. We used to use the main form to marshal call to the ui thread. But from time to time some calls would go to a non ui thread and some grids would broke with a big red X on them. I fixed this by creating a specific class: public class WindowsFormsSynchronizer { private static readonly WindowsFormsSynchronizationContext = new WindowsFormsSynchronizationContext(); //Methods are following that would build the same interface of the synchronization context. } This class gets build as one of the first objects in the first form being constructed. We've noticed some other strange thing. Looking at the heap there are 7 WindowsFormsSynchronizationContext objects. 6 of these have the same instance of controlToSend, and the other one has some different instance of controlToSend. This last one is the one that should marshal the calls to the UI. I don't have any other idea...maybe some of you guys had this same issue?

  • Should websites live in /var/ or /usr/ according to recommended usage?

    According to a guide on the Linux directory structure, /usr/ is for application files, and /var/ is for files that change (I assume this means "files that belong to the applications"). Is this correct? If this is the case then I'm a little torn between using either. A website is an application (if it's dynamic, so to speak), but in other cases it is just a collection of files used by Apache. The default www dir lives in /var/www/, so should we follow suit by using /var/websites/ (or something similar), or choose /usr/websites/ since they could be applications? This is a very trivial question, but it's bugging me nonetheless. For our case, I'm leaning toward /usr/web or something like that, since our websites are all applications. Update: This is for our company websites; it's not a shared hosting server, so we don't need to worry about separating them in /home/ or anything like that.

    I have an object oriented PHP application. I have a simple hierarchy stored in an SQL table (Chapters and Authors that can be assigned to a chapter). I wrote the following method to fetch the chapters and the authors in a single query and then loop through the result, figuring out which rows belong to the same chapter and creating both Chapter objects and arrays of Author objects. However, I feel like this can be made a lot neater.   • Restoring factory image of HP Laptop

    I use a HP G62. I am unable to use my recovery disk to restore to factory settings. I had no problems earlier until I created an additional partition which I hear might have changed my hard disk to dynamic. How do I get back to 'normal'? I don't mind formatting the disk. I just want my factory OS back. .............. i get an error message at about 69 percent telling me that the restoration process failed. I'm using the factory image disks i created using the hp recovery manager. I have tried formating the hard drive clean and then restoring woth the cd, it didn't work. I was always able to restore before i created that partition.

  • Copying Excel Worksheets in POI

    Does anyone know of a means to copy a worksheet from one workbook to another using POI? The Workbook class has a cloneSheet method, but there doesn't seem to be able to insert a cloned sheet into a new workbook? If there isn't an API to do this easily, does anyone have the code to copy all of the data (styles, column widths, data, etc) from one sheet to another? The jxls has methods to copy sheets, but they don't work when copying between workbooks.

  • uWSGI and Nginx python file handling

    I've been trying to figure out how to propertly utilize uWSGI with Nginx and have hit a bit of a design roadblock. I'm trying to figure out how my python files should be accessed via uWSGI. I've been able to find 3 different ways to do so: Create a uWSGI process for each python file and then create locations in nginx that pass to each uWSGI process. Create one instance of uWSGI and create a master python file that handles all the different requests. Create one instance of uWSGI and setup dynamic applications I'm coming from LightTPD where I simply setup rewrites to point at the different python files. I feel like 3 is the closest to that but uWSGI says that it is not the recommended way of going about it.

    I spoke with my host supporter to find what is my sql hostname. He said that the only way is add permissions in mysql remote (cpanel) to my actual ip. So the config in heidiSQL for example will be localhost userxxx passxxx But i have a dynamic ip, so i need to change the permissions every time, correct? Add the flag % probably is not a good idea, so how can I solve this problem? Why I dont have something like mysql.something.com ? Sorry, if this question is too basic.

    Hi, I'm working on a project and need to create a screen similar to the iPhone home screen: A scrollview with multiple pages A bunch of icons When not in edit mode, swipe through different pages (even I started the touch on an icon) When not in edit mode, tap an icon to do something When in edit mode, drag the icon to swap places, and even swap to different pages When in edit mode, tap an icon to remove it Previously I read from several forums that I have to subclass UIScrollview in order to have touch input for the UIViews on top of it. So I subclassed it overriding the methods to handle touches: - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { //If not dragging, send event to next responder if (!self.dragging) [self.nextResponder touchesBegan:touches withEvent:event]; else [super touchesBegan:touches withEvent:event]; } In general I've override the touchesBegan:, touchesMoved: and touchesEnded: methods similarly. However, when I tried to drag the icon, the icon just moved a tiny bit and then the page started to scroll. In console, it logged with 2 or 3 "touchesMoved" message only. However, I learned from another project that it should logged tonnes of "touchesMoved" message as long as I'm still dragging on the screen. (I'm suspecting I have the delaysContentTouches set to YES, so it delays a little bit when I tried to drag the icons. After that minor delay, it sends to signal back to the scrollview to scroll through the page. Please correct me if I'm wrong.) So if any help on the code to perform the above tasks would be greatly appreciated. I've stuck in this place for nearly a week with no hope. Thanks a lot.

    I'm using Ion Auth and trying to implement the forgotten password feature which relies upon an email being sent from CI. My LAMP server is on a shared cPanel account and uses sendmail. However, I have the ability to over-ride any PHP settings with my own php.ini file in the public_html directory. These appear on all pages, sometimes two or three times in a row: A PHP Error was encountered Severity: Warning Message: date() [function.date]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are required to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. I don't see any other email sending options in the documentation that is related to these particular Warning Messages. When I remove my config/email.php file AND set Ion Auth's use_ci_email to FALSE, the Error Warnings go away. Where did I go wrong? Just before I hit the submit button, I solved this problem. I'm still going to post this question as a learning experience for others. If nobody solves this after a reasonable amount of time, I'll post the solution.

  • ASP.NET MVC Users unable to login after password change, and being locked out.

    All, I have a website that is in use and has several users, using the MySqlMembershipProvider. We have had a few users that have been locked out (for some reason) and recently I unlocked them and reset the passwords, using the MembershipUser.UnlockUser and MembershipUser.ResetPassword methods. Now they are definitely marked in the database as Unlocked and the password has been reset, but they still cannot log in. Does anyone have any ideas why this might happen?

  • How should I provide access to this custom DAL?

    I'm writing a custom DAL (VB.NET) for an ordering system project. I'd like to explain how it is coded now, and receive some alternate ideas to make coding against the DAL easier/more readable. The DAL is part of an n-tier (not n-layer) application, where each tier is in it's own assembly/DLL. The DAL consists of several classes that have specific behavior. For instance, there is an Order class that is responsible for retrieving and saving orders. Most of the classes have only two methods, a "Get" and a "Save," with multiple overloads for each. These classes are marked as Friend and are only visible to the DAL (which is in it's own assembly). In most cases, the DAL returns what I will call a "Data Object." This object is a class that contains only data and validation, and is located in a common assembly that both the BLL and DAL can read. To provide public access to the DAL, I currently have a static (module) class that has many shared members. A simplified version looks something like this: Public Class DAL Private Sub New End Sub Public Shared Function GetOrder(OrderID as String) as OrderData Dim OrderGetter as New OrderClass Return OrderGetter.GetOrder(OrderID) End Function End Class Friend Class OrderClass Friend Function GetOrder(OrderID as string) as OrderData End Function End Class The BLL would call for an order like this: DAL.GetOrder("123456") As you can imagine, this gets cumbersome very quickly. I'm mainly interested in structuring access to the DAL so that Intellisense is very intuitive. As it stands now, there are too many methods/functions in the DAL class with similar names. One idea I had is to break down the DAL into nested classes: Public Class DAL Private Sub New End Sub Public Class Orders Private Sub New End Sub Public Shared Function Get(OrderID as string) as OrderData End Function End Class End Class So the BLL would call like this: DAL.Orders.Get("12345") This cleans it up a bit, but it leaves a lot of classes that only have references to other classes, which I don't like for some reason. Without resorting to passing DB specific instructions (like where clauses) from BLL to DAL, what is the best or most common practice for providing a single point of access for the DAL?

  • Network - Routers conflicting in my subnet

    I have a router whose IP is 192.168.1.1 and I be experiencing conflict with another router on my subnet (which probably has 192.168.1.1 as IP too). I think when it tries to connect to the network, eventually taking the place of my router because when I try to access the config page of my router, which appears to me is a config page from another router that is not mine. Do you have any solution except to change the IP of my router to an IP not common? As I have set up the exclusivity that only my IP router? I work with dynamic IPs (wireless networking) and static (for wired). How do I? I just wanna to do some setting in my router that affects all other, so that doesn't conflicts anymore.

  • Determine the 'Overtype' mode using Javascript

    We are creating a web app to replace an old-school green-screen application. In the green-screen app, as the user presses the Insert key to switch between overtype and insert modes, the cursor changes to indicate which input mode the user is currently in. In IE (which is the official browser of the company), overtype mode also works, but there's no visual indication as to whether overtype mode is on or not, until the user starts typing and possibly over-writes existing information unexpectedly. I'd like to put some sort of visual indicator on the screen if in overtype mode. How can you determine if the browser is in 'overtype mode' from Javascript? Is there some property or function i can query to determine if the browser is in overtype mode? Even an IE-specific solution would be helpful, since our corporate policy dictates the browser to use as IE7 (pure torture, btw). (I do know that one solution is to do check for key presses of the Insert key. However, it's a solution that I'd prefer to avoid since that method seems a bit flaky & error-prone because I can't guarantee what mode the user would be in BEFORE he/she hits my page. ) The reasoning behind this question: The functionality of this portion of the green-screen app is such that the user can select from a list of 'preformatted bodies of text'. crude eg. (To be clear, they can still edit any part of the 'preformatted text' if they so wished. It's just that usually, they just wish to replace specific portions of the text. Keeping the alignment is important since these sections of text can end up on printed documents.) Of course, the same effect can be achieved by just selecting the x's to replace first, but it would be helpful (with respect to easing the transition to the web app) to allow old methods of doing things to continue to work, while still allowing 'web methods' to be used by the more tech-savvy users. Essentially, we're trying to make the initial transition from the green-screen app to the web app be as seemless as possible to minimise the resistance from the long-time green-screeners.
