  • Resolve bash variable containted in another variable

    - by kogut
I have code like that: TEXT_TO_FILTER='I would like to replace this $var to proper value' var=variable All I want to get is: TEXT_AFTER_FILTERED="I'd like to replace this variable to proper value" So I did: TEXT_AFTER_FILTERED=`eval echo $TEXT_TO_FILTER` TEXT_AFTER_FILTERED=`eval echo $(eval echo $TEXT_TO_FILTER)` Or even more weirder things, but without any effects. I remember that someday I had similar problem and I did something like that: cat << EOF > tmp.sh echo $TEXT_TO_FILTER EOF chmod +x tmp.sh TEXT_AFTER_FILTERED=`. tmp.sh` But this solution seems to be to much complex. Have any of You heard about easier solution?

  • How to check with PHP does a SQL database already have

    - by Dan Horvat
I've tried to find the answer to this question but none of the answers fit. I have two databases, one has 15.000.000 entries and I want to extract the necessary data and store it in a much smaller database with around 33.000 entries. Both databases are open at the same time. Or at least they should be. While having the big database open and extracting the entries from it, is it possible to check whether the value already exists in the smaller database? I just need some generic way which checks that.

  • Displaying "Google like" search results

    - by RanM
Working in ASP.NET (VB), I am trying to develop a simple search results page for my website. The process is as follows: (1) The site's user enters a search phrase; (2) The search results page searched the site's database, and returns the page title as a link, and a short snippet from each search "hit", with the search phrase highlighted. I already have the search part done, and also the "highlighted" part done (using Regex). However, I want to be able to return a short snippet of text, which include the search phrase (a few words before the search phrase, a few after). Something like: Page Title [as a link] ... yada yada yada search phrase yada yada yada...

  • Recursive CTE with alternating tables

    - by SOfanatic
I've created a SQL fiddle here. Basically, I have 3 tables BaseTable, Files, and a LinkingTable. The Files table has 3 columns: PK, BaseTableId, RecursiveId (ChildId). What I want to do is find all the children given a BaseTableId (i.e., ParentId). The tricky part is that the way the children are found works like this: Take ParentId 1 and use that to look up a FileId in the Files table, then use that FileId to look for a ChildId in the LinkingTable, if that record exists then use the RecursiveId in the LinkingTable to look for the next FileId in the Files table and so on. This is my CTE so far: with CTE as ( select lt.FileId, lt.RecursiveId, 0 as [level], bt.BaseTableId from BaseTable bt join Files f on bt.BaseTableId = f.BaseTableId join LinkingTable lt on f.FileId = lt.FileId where bt.BaseTableId = @Id UNION ALL select rlt.FileId, rlt.RecursiveId, [level] + 1 as [level], CTE.BaseTableId from CTE --??? and this is where I get lost ... ) A correct output for BaseTableId = 1, should be: FileId|RecursiveId|level|BaseTableId 1 1 0 1 3 2 1 1 4 3 2 1

  • Better way to read last portion of URL

    - by enloz
This script should detect the last portion in the full path, and if it is stackoverflow output ok $current_url = $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']; $current_url_arr = explode('/',$current_url); $count = count($current_url_arr); if($current_url_arr[$count-2] == 'stackoverflow'){ echo 'ok'; } else { echo 'not ok'; } Example 1: www.myserver.ext/something/else/stackoverflow/ Output: ok Example 2: www.myserver.ext/something/else/stackoverflow Output: not ok Example 3: www.myserver.ext/something/else/stackoverflow/foo Output: not ok I hope that you understand the idea. This script works fine, but I'm wondering if there is any better, elegant way to read last portion of URL?

  • Join unrelated tables through a second level connected table

    - by Andy M
Hello! I have two tables of activities on a page: Views & Comments. Views id timestamp project_id user_id page_id Comments id timestamp project_id user_id page_id comment Pages id project_id title Now pages are related to projects: Projects id account_id title I am trying to create a summary page that combines views and comments ordered by time (so that the most recent views/comments are at the beginning, grouped by projects. Also, only projects for a specific account. So the result could potentially be: Project 1 View 5 (June 20th) View 4 (June 18th) Comment 5 (June 15th) Comment 4 (June 14th) Comment 3 (June 12th) Project 3 View 3 (June 10th) View 2 (June 8th) Comment 2 (June 7th) Project 2 View 1 (June 5th) Comment 1 (June 4th) If you could help with how to do this using SQL (or even doctrine) that would be awesome. Thank you.

  • Find a control by String from asp.net Web service

    - by jphenow
Well since it seems relatively difficult to send the object of a WebControl over JSON using jquery.ajax() I've decided to send the name of the control as a string because I know how to do that. Then I promptly realized that, from a web service, I don't actually know how to search for a control by ID name. Since its a service I can't seem to get Control.FindControl() to work so does anyone have ideas or suggestions? All I'm trying to do is call a databind() on my radcombobox. Thanks in advance! For any of you that knows anything about asp.net/rad controls - I'm basically updating a database and want the radcombobox to be in sync with that database again after adding something, before I autoselect what was just added. Other than databind do i have to call anything to refresh that list? Thanks again!

  • Escaping quotes twice in PHP

    - by Genadinik
Hello, I have a complicated form where I first have to take some _GET parameters and obviously I have to do a mysql_real_escape_string() on them since I look stuff up in the database with them. Them problem for me is after the initial db lookup. When the user submits a form, I send them along as a _POST request and obviously have to do this mysql_real_escape_string call again just in case someone tries to hack my site with a faked form submission. Then the problem I have is the arguments are escaped twice and my queries begin to look strange like this: select field1 , field2 , from my_table where some_id = \'.$lookup_id.\' ... So the system seems to be adding \' and it is messing me up :) Also, in my other forms I have not seen such behavior. Any ideas on what may be causing this? One weird thing is that I tried to send unescaped parameters to the post, and the same problem happens. That is a clue, but not a sufficient one for me. :( Thanks, Alex

  • How to update records based on sum of a field then use the sum to calc a new value in sql

    - by Casey
    Below is what i'm trying to do with by iterating through the records. I would like to have a more elegant solution if possible since i'm sure this is not the best way to do it in sql. set @counter = 1 declare @totalhrs dec(9,3), @lastemp char(7), @othrs dec(9,3) while @counter <= @maxrecs begin if exists(select emp_num from #tt_trans where id = @counter) begin set @nhrs = 0 set @othrs = 0 select @empnum = emp_num, @nhrs = n_hrs, @othrs = ot_hrs from #tt_trans where id = @counter if @empnum = @lastemp begin set @totalhrs = @totalhrs + @nhrs if @totalhrs > 40 begin set @othrs = @othrs + @totalhrs - 40 set @nhrs = @nhrs - (@totalhrs - 40) set @totalhrs = 40 end end else begin set @totalhrs = @nhrs set @lastemp = @empnum end update #tt_trans set n_hrs = @nhrs, ot_hrs = @othrs where id = @counter and can_have_ot = 1 end set @counter = @counter + 1 end Thx

  • Code Golf: Duplicate Character Removal in String

    - by Alex
The challenge: The shortest code, by character count, that detects and removes duplicate characters in a String. Removal includes ALL instances of the duplicated character (so if you find 3 n's, all three have to go), and original character order needs to be preserved. Example Input 1: nbHHkRvrXbvkn Example Output 1: RrX Example Input 2: nbHHkRbvnrXbvkn Example Output 2: RrX (the second example removes letters that occur three times; some solutions have failed to account for this) (This is based on my other question where I needed the fastest way to do this in C#, but I think it makes good Code Golf across languages.)

  • Shaping EF LINQ Query Results Using Multi-Table Includes

    - by sisdog
    I have a simple LINQ EF query below using the method syntax. I'm using my Include statement to join four tables: Event and Doc are the two main tables, EventDoc is a many-to-many link table, and DocUsage is a lookup table. My challenge is that I'd like to shape my results by only selecting specific columns from each of the four tables. But, the compiler is giving a compiler is giving me the following error: 'System.Data.Objects.DataClasses.EntityCollection does not contain a definition for "Doc' and no extension method 'Doc' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Data.Objects.DataClasses.EntityCollection' could be found. I'm sure this is something easy but I'm not figuring it out. I haven't been able to find an example of someone using the multi-table include but also shaping the projection. Thx,Mark var qry= context.Event .Include("EventDoc.Doc.DocUsage") .Select(n => new { n.EventDate, n.EventDoc.Doc.Filename, //<=COMPILER ERROR HERE n.EventDoc.Doc.DocUsage.Usage }) .ToList(); EventDoc ed; Doc d = ed.Doc; //<=NO COMPILER ERROR SO I KNOW MY MODEL'S CORRECT DocUsage du = d.DocUsage;

  • Nice way to break a reply up into pieces in ruby

    - by ChaosR
Hello, I'm writing an IRCd. For this topic it doesn't really matter if you know much about IRC. Its a simple code style problem. Quick overview of the problem: No message may be longer than 512 characters If the message is more, it must be broken into pieces The NAMES reply sends all the nicknames of users on a channel, and quickly grows beyond 512 characters. I currently concocted this marvelous piece of code, it works perfectly. However, its just not "ruby-like". This piece of code is more what you expect in some piece of C code. # 11 is the number of all fixed characters combined in the reply pre_length = 11 + servername.length + mynick.length + channel.name.length list = [""] i = 0 channel.nicks.each do |nick, client| list[i+=1] = "" if list[i].length + nick.length + pre_length > 500 list[i] << "#{channel.mode_char(client)}#{client.nick} " end list.each { |l| send_numeric(RPL_NAMREPLY, channel.name, l.strip) } send_numeric(RPL_ENDOFNAMES, channel.name) So my question is, any ideas to do this more nicely? PS. code has been slightly modified to make it easier to understand out-of-context

  • Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my create trigger syntax?

    - by Travis
I am experimenting with triggers for the first time. When I try to create a trigger using the following: CREATE TRIGGER t_foldersPrivate BEFORE DELETE ON foldersPrivate FOR EACH ROW BEGIN DELETE FROM programs WHERE folderType = '0' AND folderID = OLD.ID; END; I receive the following error: `1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 3` (mysql 5.1.37) If I get rid fo the delete statement the create trigger statement works fine. So I am assuming it must have something to do with that. But for the life of me I'm not sure what...

  • Query distinct list of choices for Django form with App Engine Datastore

    - by Brian
I've been trying to figure this out for hours across a couple of days, and can not get it to work. I've been everywhere. I'll continue trying to figure it out, but was hoping for a quicker solution. I'm using App Engine datastore + Django. Using a query in a view and custom forms, I was able to get a list to the form but then I was not able to post. I have been trying to figure out how to dynamically add the choices as part of the Django form... I've tried various ways with no success. Help! Below are the two models. I'd like to get a distinct list of address_id to show in the location field in InfoForm. This fields could (and maybe should) be named the same, but I thought it'd be easier if they were named different. class Info(db.Model): user = db.UserProperty() location = db.StringProperty() info = db.StringProperty() created = db.DateTimeProperty(auto_now_add=True) modified = db.DateTimeProperty(auto_now=True) class Locations(db.Model): user = db.UserProperty() address_id = db.StringProperty() address = db.StringProperty() class InfoForm(djangoforms.ModelForm): info = forms.ChoiceField(choices=INFO_CHOICES) location = forms.ChoiceField() class Meta: model = Info exclude = ['user','created','modified']

  • Advanced XPath query

    - by alex
    Hello, I have an XML file that looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <PrivateSchool> <Teacher id="teacher1"> <Name> teacher1Name </Name> </Teacher> <Teacher id="teacher2"> <Name> teacher2Name </Name> </Teacher> <Student id="student1"> <Name> student1Name </Name> </Student> <Student id="student2"> <Name> student2Name </Name> </Student> <Lesson student="student1" teacher="teacher1" /> <Lesson student="student2" teacher="teacher2" /> <Lesson student="student3" teacher="teacher3" /> <Lesson student="student1" teacher="teacher2" /> <Lesson student="student3" teacher="teacher3" /> <Lesson student="student1" teacher="teacher1" /> <Lesson student="student2" teacher="teacher4" /> <Lesson student="student1" teacher="teacher1" /> </PrivateSchool> There's also a DTD associated with this XML, but I assume it's not much relevant to my question. Let's assume all needed teachers and students are well defined. What is the XPath query that returns the teachers' NAMES, that have at least one student that took more than 10 lessons with them? I was looking at many XPath sites/examples. Nothing seemed advanced enough for this kind of question... Thank you

  • Best way to handle MySQL date for performance with thousands of users

    - by bitLost
I am currently part of a team designing a site that will potentially have thousands of users who will be doing a number of date related searches. During the design phase we have been trying to determine which makes more sense for performance optimization. Should we store the datetime field as a mysql datetime. Or should be break it up into a number of fields (year, month, day, hour, minute, ...) The question is with a large data set and a potentially large set of users, would we gain performance wise breaking the datetime into multiple fields and saving on relying on mysql date functions? Or is mysql already optimized for this?

  • In Excel 2010, how can I show a count of occurrences on a specific date within multiple time ranges?

    - by Justin
Here's what I'm trying to do. I have three columns of data. ID, Date(MM/DD/YY), Time(00:00). I need to create a chart or table that shows the number of occurrences on, say, 12/10/2010 between 00:00 and 00:59, 1:00 and 1:59, etc, for each hour of the day. I can do countif and get results for the date, but I cannot figure out how to show a summary of the count of occurrences per hour for the 24 hour period. I have months of data and many times each day. Example of data set is below. Any help is greatly ID Date Time 221 12/10/2010 00:01 223 12/10/2010 00:45 227 12/10/2010 01:13 334 12/11/2010 14:45 I would like the results to read: Date Time Count 12/10/2010 00:00AM - 00:59AM 2 12/10/2010 01:00AM - 01:59AM 1 12/10/2010 02:00AM - 02:59AM 0 ......(continues for every hour of the day) 12/11/2010 00:00AM - 00:59AM 0 ......... 12/11/2010 14:00PM - 14:59PM 1 And so on. Sorry for the length but I wanted to be clear. EDIT Here is a sample spreadsheet. Very little data, but I couldn't figure out a better way without having a huge file. Tested in notepad for formatting and worked ok on import as csv.
