I found this python plugin list but thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience with anything listed there?
I'm totally new to both python and dynamic programming languages if that makes any difference.
What would be the most performant way to prepend a single character to a multi-gigabyte file (in my practical case, a 40GB file).
There is no limitation on the implementation to do this. Meaning it can be through a tool, a shell script, a program in any programming language, ...
Hi,
I'm looking for a python library for finding the longest common substring from a set of python strings.
I'have read that it exist to way to solve this problem :
- one using suffix trees
- the other using dynamic programming.
The method implemented is not important. Otherwise, it is important to have a implementation that can be use for a set of strings and not only two strings
Thanks,
Say I want to create a source code editor for ocaml programming language, where do I start? I am looking to create an editor for the Windows platform as a hobby project. My primary skill is in web development. I have developed windows apps long time ago. I have no clue how it is done with todays available tools. I have visual studio 2008 and C# is my language of choice.
Hello.
Qt library includes advanced meta-programming capabilities using they own preprocessing moc compiler. Does anyone knows, is it possible to create some kind of mix-ins via it? For example, i have a QString and want to add a method to it without sub-classing and changing existing code. Does Qt have such solutions for that?
Hey, it's me again,
I've got another question regarding to basic Android programming:
How can I access the GPS for getting the current Position of the mobile phone the app is running on? How long can this take to retrieve the information?
In this case the GPS might be disabled, how can I enable/disable it again.
Which permissions must be granted in the andorid manifest?
Greetings and thanks for ur answers,

Hi
I'm a beginner in BlackBerry programming, I need to replace in my application the default menu (when you press the menu button) by a custom menu, horizontal. The best to describe is I want the same result as the WeatherEye application for BlackBerry...
I know how to create the default menu, but this one I have no idea!
Thank you,
I want to have a login form on a charity website I am building (it's for a friend, and I'm learning on the go), and I want to know what languages/software should I learn to build databases for user logins and info? Note: it HAS to be secure and relatively simple to learn for someone with moderate programming experience.
Update: I understand that CMSs offer good tools for logins etc. but I want to do this all by myself.
I'm just programming a little function that toggles a content by fading it in and out.
this.advancedSearch = function(fieldset, triggerBtn){
fieldset.hide()
triggerBtn.click(function(){
fieldset.toggle(function(){ $(this).stop(false, true).fadeIn(300) }, function(){ $(this).stop(false, true).fadeIn(300) })
})
}
if just I use toggle() it works, but when i insert the two functions nothing happens and no error is thrown. Is there something i have done wrong?
Hello all,
I am working with Visual Studio (2008 edition) for the first time. Used to programming in a Unix environment, I have become quite used to cscope and vim. For my current project, I really need cscope. I was wondering if there is any way I could use cscope on Visual Studio - or use cscope in Windows. Or if there is another tool which does this job ..
Thanks
Rahul
Were there any awesome C# tutorials you found that helped you learn it? Or any books that you thought were particularly successful? Any that should be avoided?
UPDATE: Tons of good answers, thank you all! To clarify the earlier question, hobbyist with only light programming experience previous. Working through online tutorials currently, probably going to pick up Head First C#.

looking for other similar medical simulation software that have easier API for programming, better documentation and more active user interactive help forum.
the goal is to do virtual design. I want to design something that can simulate a pipe pumping with haptic devices, but I couldn't get Sofa to work with my phantom device in their UI, and I can't use their API to build my stuff either. it's hard to get things going with slow support.
thx for the help
Hi,
I'm learning Ruby, and I'm starting to play with building extensions in C. I have Programming Ruby The Pragmatic Programmers' Guide and so I can follow that for the basic nuts and bolts. What I was wondering is if there already existed some nifty frameworks/whatever to help interoperability between Ruby and other languages, with C++ being the most important for me. I've tried googling, but the results focus on language comparisons, rather than language interoperability.
TIA,
Andy
I´m interested in both web resources and books. It´s a jungle out there, please give me a hand.
My goal is to learn the SQL language so I can query Sql Server databases within a couple of weeks.
I´ve got a programming background, and I know some basic stuff about relational databases, but almost nothing on how to use the SQL language.
I have come across a couple of sites in the past where a professional programmer would charge you 50 cents per minute or so to chat with them, one on one, and they would answer any questions you have about your choice of programming language. I've been studying ASP.NET 3.5 for a couple of months now and haven't been able to find a service like this for ASP.NET. Any help? A free live chat room for .NET would be of big help too.
I've never done any unit testing before, and would like to learn what it is and how it can be useful in my Python code.
I've read through a few Python unit testing tutorials online but they're all so complicated and assume an extended programming background. I'm using Python with Pylons to create a simple web app.
Any simple examples would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I have been programming for about 10 years: 7 years C++, 3 years MFC, 2 JSP/Servlets, and the last year .NET (since there was some overlap the total won't add up).
The problem is now that I am looking for a new job, I don't know what the latest thing is in C++ AND Java AND .NET AND MFC and somehow at interviews I am expected to KNOW everything about these topics because I have them listed on my resume.
Any suggestions?
I am trying to improve my programming skills by learning more about frameworks, methodologies, and related technologies. I have seen a lot of job postings with requirements that also include Linux and/or Apache. So, my question is, what sort of things should I study in terms of Linux from a development standpoint?
I am programming in C, using the Windows API, and would like to know how I could draw separators.
I'm a total noob when it comes to writing GUI applications, so I may need a code example.
Is there a way to include git commit hashes inside a file everytime I commit? I can only find out how to do this during archiving but I haven't been able to find out how to do this for every commit.
I'm doing scientific programming with git as revision control, so this kind of functionality would be very helpful for reproducibility reasons (i.e., have the git hash automatically included in all result files and figures).
Is speed of the (main/only viable) implementation of an interpreted programming language a criteria today?
What would be the optimal balance between speed and abstraction?
Should scripting languages completely ignore all thoughts about performance and just follow the concepts of rapid development, readability, etc.?
I'm asking this because I'm currently designing some experimental languages and interpreters
Hello All,
I am new to programming and I just jumped in to Django and I need a bit of help. I downloaded the generic reviews model off of Google code and I have no clue how to implement it. Can anyone pass along some guidance on how to make this work with a 5 star ratings system? I would appreciate it. Thanks.
I'm still pretty new to Android and programming in general, and I can't seem to get the command line tools packaged with the Android SDK to work. I'm running Mac OSX and each time I try to run layoutopt, for example, the terminal returns, *-bash: cmd: command not found
*
Also, is it okay to have my SDK located in the Developer directory and my android project in some unrelated directory when using these tools?
For now it has been around 4 years that I work as developer. Most of my team mates, from their tech-skill, programming ability and code practices view, are somewhere between junior and senior. In all my previous jobs, there was a real geek who was brilliant at coding/analyzing/lead, but the others were just 'average' programmers.
How would you rank your co-workers as good developers from rank 1 (best) - 5 (worst) ?
Hello there!
I'm just started on playing around with the canvas HTML5-object. For the sake of performance tests, I have made a little ping pong game (http://bit.ly/arTPut). Apart from my quick'n'dirty programming skills, I believe, that there are also some performance boosts, I haven't used. Especially, the ball seams to be blue with a little red-touch, but by my decleration it should be yellow. Would be very nice, if someone could help me!
Greetings, Vilius
