  • SQL Server: Output an XML field as tabular data using a stored procedure

    - by Pawan
I am using a table with an XML data field to store the audit trails of all other tables in the database. That means the same XML field has various XML information. For example my table has two records with XML data like this: 1st record: <client> <name>xyz</name> <ssn>432-54-4231</ssn> </client> 2nd record: <emp> <name>abc</name> <sal>5000</sal> </emp> These are the two sample formats and just two records. The table actually has many more XML formats in the same field and many records in each format. Now my problem is that upon query I need these XML formats to be converted into tabular result sets. What are the options for me? It would be a regular task to query this table and generate reports from it. I want to create a stored procedure to which I can pass that I need to query "<emp>" or "<client>", then my stored procedure should return tabular data.

  • Asp.net mvc - trying to display images pulled from db \

    - by Trey Carroll
//Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<FilmFestWeb.Models.ListVideosViewModel>" <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>ListVideos</h2> <% foreach(BusinessObjects.Video vid in Model.VideoList){%> <div class="videoBox"> <%= Html.Encode(vid.Name) %> <img src="<%= vid.ThumbnailImage %>" /> </div> <%} %> </asp:Content> //ListVideosViewModel public class ListVideosViewModel { public IList<Video> VideoList { get; set; } } //Video public class Video { public long VideoId { get; set; } public long TeamId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Tags { get; set; } public string TeamMembers { get; set; } public string TranscriptFileName { get; set; } public string VideoFileName { get; set; } public int TotalNumRatings { get; set; } public int CumulativeTotalScore { get; set; } public string VideoUri { get; set; } public Image ThumbnailImage { get; set; } } I am getting the "red x" that I usually associate with image file not found. I have verified that my database table shows after the stored proc that uploads the image executes. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • nested insert exec work around

    - by stackoverflowuser
i have 2 stored procedures usp_SP1 and usp_SP2. Both of them make use of insert into #tt exec sp_somesp. I wanted to created a 3rd stored procedure which will decide which stored proc to call. something like create proc usp_Decision ( @value int ) as begin if (@value = 1) exec usp_SP1 -- this proc already has insert into #tt exec usp_somestoredproc else exec usp_SP2 -- this proc too has insert into #tt exec usp_somestoredproc end Later realized I needed some structure defined for the return value from usp_Decision so that i can populate the SSRS dataset field. So here is what i tried: within usp_Decision created a temp table and tried to do "insert into #tt exec usp_SP1". Didn't work out. error "insert exec cannot be nested" within usp_Decision tried passing table variable to each of the stored proc and update the table within the stored procs and do "select * from ". That didnt work out as well. Table variable passed as parameter cannot be modified within the stored proc. Pls. suggest what can de done?

  • I need someone to explain this ASP function to me

    - by Ronnie Chester Lynwood
Hello! I've got an ASP document that 5 years old. Actually I'm working with PHP but I must use ASP for a Windows Application. So I need someone to explain this function to me. //DNS SETTINGS ARE INCLUDED ALREADY. function Check_Is_Web_Locked() dim cmdDB , Ret OpenDatabase Set cmdDB = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command") With cmdDB .ActiveConnection = DBCon .CommandText = "TICT_CHECK_WEB_STATUS" .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("RETURN_VALUE", adInteger, adParamReturnValue, 0) .Execute,,adExecuteNoRecords Ret = Trim(.Parameters("RETURN_VALUE")) End With Set cmdDB = Nothing CloseDatabase Check_Is_Web_Locked = Ret end function What does this function do? Is "TICT_CHECK_WEB_STATUS" a StoredProcedure? If it's what are the coulumns that function looking for?

  • Alter Table Filestream runs even if IF statement is false

    - by Allison
I am writing a script to update a database to add Filestream capability. The script needs to be able to be run multiple times without erroring. This is what I currently have IF ((select count(*) from sys.columns a inner join sys.objects b on a.object_id = b.object_id inner join sys.default_constraints c on c.parent_object_id = a.object_id where a.name = 'evidence_data' and b.name='evidence' and c.name='DF__evidence_evidence_data') = 0) begin ALTER TABLE evidence SET ( FILESTREAM_ON = AnalysisFSGroup ) ALTER TABLE evidence ALTER COLUMN id ADD ROWGUIDCOL; end GO The first time I run this against the database it works fine. The second time when the if statement should be false it throws an error saying "Cannot add FILESTREAM filegroup or partition scheme since table 'evidence' has a FILESTREAM filegroup or partition scheme already." If I put a simple select into the if statement and take out the alter table filestream on line it functions correctly and does not perform the if statement. So esentially it is always running the alter table filestream on statement even if the if statement is false. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

  • SQL Having Clause

    - by Wally
I'm trying to get a stored procedure to work using the following syntax: select count(sl.Item_Number) as NumOccurrences from spv3SalesDocument as sd left outer join spv3saleslineitem as sl on sd.Sales_Doc_Type = sl.Sales_Doc_Type and sd.Sales_Doc_Num = sl.Sales_Doc_Num where sd.Sales_Doc_Type='ORDER' and sd.Sales_Doc_Num='OREQP0000170' and sl.Item_Number = 'MCN-USF' group by sl.Item_Number having count (distinct sl.Item_Number) = 0 In this particular case when the criteria is not met the query returns no records and the 'count' is just blank. I need a 0 returned so that I can apply a condition instead of just nothing. I'm guessing it is a fairly simple fix but beyond my simple brain capacity. Any help is greatly appreciated. Wally

But I cannot impose IF (room_id IS NOT NULL) THEN since it will create KeyToBin('') and RoomKey is foreign key , KeyToBin('') will produce an invalid RoomKey. Any Idea?

  • Please for efficient query

    - by user278618
I want to have efficient query to get some rows from my table. Here is I think the best presentation of my table. -Somedate is not duplicated - it is date of modifiedon -a,b,c are parent ids, let say countryCode -1,2,3,4 are subparent, let say citycode -guids are id of rows -true, false are values of rows - one can name this column - freshAir a 1 GUID somedate true a 1 GUID somedate true a 2 GUID somedate false a 2 GUID somedate false b 3 GUID somedate false b 3 GUID somedate false b 3 GUID somedate false b 4 GUID somedate false c 5 GUID somedate true c 6 GUID somedate true c 6 GUID somedate false c 6 GUID somedate false c 7 GUID somedate false I want the most recent rows MAX(modifiedon) grouped by countrycode and citycode and in this groups I need elements which have another values (true, false). And in result I want: a 1 GUID somedate true a 2 GUID somedate false c 5 GUID somedate true c 6 GUID somedate false c 7 GUID somedate false Look that in result I don't want to have records with "b", because all rows have the same value (false). Best regards

  • how to get SSRS 2008 R2 to export/render in Excel 2007 format?

    - by James Manning
I have a report that has ~1k columns and ~17k rows and I'm trying to render it to Excel 2007 with SSRS 2008 R2 Nov CTP. SSRS team members have mentioned in multiple places that Excel 2007 format is included in 2008 R2, for instance: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/69545568-73cb-4f4c-8f35-44472ba6d013 Now, it's certainly possible that it just hasn't made it into the product yet (at least as of Nov CTP), and if that's the case, that would be good to know, too (and ideally when it would be in the product). The repro report and data (along with attempts showing the existing interface still does Excel 2003 format) are attached to the bottom of this blog post, FWIW: http://cid-456117cf53a42144.spaces.live.com/default.aspx

  • SQL UNION ALL problem after using UNION ALL more than 10 times

    - by VBGKM
I'm getting a formatting problem if I use more than 10 UNION ALL statements in my VBA Code. If I use 10 or less everything works great. What I'm trying to do is combine 12 worksheets (Excel 2007). I have a numerical column called SC that turns into string and date if I have more than 10 UNION ALL. If I try to use ROUND with more than 10 UNION ALL my last selection will change all the records by one unit. I'm using Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 as my provider and my connection string has worked for several things in my code so far. Is there any limit for UNION ALL statements when using OLEDB? Here is my code. Dim StrOr As String Dim i As Variant Dim Cnt As ADODB.Connection Dim Rs As ADODB.Recordset For i = 1 To 12 StrOr = StrOr & " " & "SELECT SC FROM [" & MonthName(i, True) & "$" & "] UNION ALL" Next StrOr = Left(StrOr, Len(StrOr) - 9) & ";" Call GetADOCnt Call ADORs

  • SQL Server: Are temp tables or unions better?

    - by Jonathan Allen
Generally speaking, for combining a lot of data is it better to use a temp table/temp variable as a staging area or should I just stick to "UNION ALL"? Assumptions: No further processing is needed, the results are sent directly to the client. The client waits for the complete recordset, so streaming results isn't necessary.

  • How to implement multi relationship in MS SQL?

    - by Ethan
I’m trying to design a database to use with ASP.net MVC application. Here is the scenario: There are three entities and users can post their comments for each of these different entities. I just wonder how just put one table for Comments and link all other entities to it. Obviously, Comments table needs 3 references (foreign key) to those tables but as you know these foreign keys can’t be null and just one of them can be filled for each row. Is there any better way than implementing three different tables for each entity’s comments? Cheers Ethan

  • T-SQL Re-Assigning Order Numbering

    - by Meltdown
Say I have a table with a field called "ordernum" that denotes the order of a given set of rows. Now imagine that I delete one of these rows. What type of query would work best for re-assigning the order numbers so that they remain sequential? Here's an example: id group_id name ordernum active --------------------------------------------------- 0_____0______'Name1'___5__true 1_____0______'Name2'___4__true 2_____0______'Name3'___3__true 3_____1______'Name4'___2__true 4_____1______'Name5'__1__true 5_____1______'Name6'__NULL___false Now if I deleted the column with id='4' how would I reset the values in the 'ordernum' field for that specific group? Is this even possible? Or if I added a new row. (The first time the rows are created they are sorted by date, but then the user has the option to set the order himself.) In my table design I have a column 'active' boolean. If 'active' is set to false, then 'ordernum' is set to NULL. Otherwise it should be given an order number.

  • SQL: Join vs. subquery

    - by Col. Shrapnel
I am an old-school MySQL user and always preferred JOIN over sub-query. But nowadays everyone uses sub-query and I hate it, dunno why. Though I've lack of theoretical knowledge to judge myself if there are any difference. Well, I am curious if sub-query as good as join and there is no thing to worry about?
