• Small web-framework like Sinatra, Ramaze etc in .NET

  Are there any similar frameworks like Sinatra, Ramaze etc in .NET? I'm in theory after a framework that let's me create an entire webapp with just one classfile (conceptually) like Sinatra. I'm going to use it for something work-internal, where ASP.NET MVC is too "big" (and I get confused by it's usage) and I have WebForms up to my ears right now (doing a big webforms based project, currently hating it ;) ) Any suggestions? Oh, and I need to be able to host it in IIS. I would go for IronRuby with Sinatra, but I can't find a step-by-step tut for setting it up in IIS ;)

• Working with DataBinding and Page_Load in ASP.NET MVP

  I'm using WebForms MVP to create some simple reporting applications. Most of these applications consist of a few search criteria inputs and a ComponentArt datagrid that I'm populating with data from the database. Most of the markup is in a UserControl, which is in a content page with a master page. My problem is that the control's Page_Load event is firing before the control events that caused the postback in the first place. Basically, the user clicks the search button, and Page_Load is fired BEFORE Search_Click. This is messing with the databinding scheme I've been using. So that's the question: Why is my Page_Load event firing before the event handler, and what can I do about it? I don't THINK this problem is related to WebForms MVP or ComponentArt, but obviously I could be wrong. Thanks.

  Ok, i can use jeditable to edit-in-place some content on a page and the content will be saved to a database. But whats the best way to re get that text-content from db to show into a place holder? p id="paraNo34" class="editable" --What i will write here so that it will get content from a db's table: [Content], where id=="paraNo34". /p The problem is if i will use some hard coded text like p id="paraNo34" class="editable" --Some text here /p I will able to edit-in-place using jeditable but when i will refresh page it will show the same "Some text here" as its not getting data from db.

  This doesnt seem to be an issue with windows XP. But I have an end user (my boss!!!) using windows 7 64 bit... In one of our apps we are grabbing the end user user name via: HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToString.Substring (HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToString.IndexOf("\") + 1).ToLower For me it is returning the correct user name for instance "jhermiz". When my boss tries getting into the app, it thinks he is Administrator??? Does anyone know of any alternative or why this might be happening? The reason this is an issue is because I use that user name to pull other information... This is visual studio 2003.

  I have a Logon page in a MVC (1.0) application that I am securing with SSL, I have an attribute that inspects the request for the page and redirects to a https uri when it is requested with http. • Common DataAnnotations in ASP.Net MVC2

  Howdy, I have what should be a simple question. I have a set of validations that use System.CompontentModel.DataAnnotations . I have some validations that are specific to certain view models, so I'm comfortable with having the validation code in the same file as my models (as in the default AccountModels.cs file that ships with MVC2). But I have some common validations that apply to several models as well (valid email address format for example). When I cut/paste that validation to the second model that needs it, of course I get a duplicate definition error because they're in the same namespace (projectName.Models). So I thought of removing the common validations to a separate class within the namespace, expecting that all of my view models would be able to access the validations from there. Unexpectedly, the validations are no longer accessible. I've verified that they are still in the same namespace, and they are all public. I wouldn't expect that I would have to have any specific reference to them (tried adding using statement for the same namespace, but that didn't resolve it, and via the add references dialog, a project can't reference itself (makes sense). So any idea why public validations that have simply been moved to another file in the same namespace aren't visible to my models? • ASP.NET MVC TDD with LINQ and SQL database

  I am trying to start a new MVC project with tests and I thought the best way to go would have 2 databases. 1 for testing against and 1 for when I run the app and use it (also test really as it's not production yet). For the test database I was thinking of putting create table scripts and fill data scripts within the test setup method and then deleting all this in the tear down method. I am going to be using Linq to SQL though and I don't think that will allow me to do this? Will I have to just go the ADO route if I want to do it this way? Or should I just use a mock object and store data as an array or something?. Any tips on best practices? How did Jeff go about doing this for StackOveflow?

  I have a Textbox, a LinkButton and a RadioButtonList inside an UpdatePanel. When the button is clicked, the UpdatePanel shows matching items in the radiobuttonlist. This works fine, but I now need to make the same happen OnKeyDown on the TextBox. I'm trying to cancel all AJAX requests in progress but not having much luck. Firstly, on every keypress the UpdatePanel posts back, so only one letter can be changed at a time. Secondly, the textbox loses focus on postback. I need to show the list as normal, but OnKeyDown as well as when the button is pressed.   Hi, I switched from MVC 1 to MVC 2. I am using a file.axd httphandler in my application and I set routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); in my global routing. Since MVC 2 MVC only ignores requests to /file.axd but not to /folder/file.axd. Any changes in MVC 2? I just want to make sure that all requests in any folder to any .axd file will get processed by my httphandler. Thanks!

  Hey there, Something I can't wrap my head around is how secure web services are. For example we're writing a desktop application that will interact with data on one of our websites as well as local data. This data is sensitive though and the last thing we want is anybody calling the web services. I've not yet found anything that says web services has some kind of authentication methods and the only security I've seen people talk about is using certificates to encrypt the message. I'm no guru on this and would appreciate anyone's input and perhaps a link to somewhere that will explain this in simple terms. Thanks Jacques
