    I am developing a web app and I have currently written the entire website in html/js/css and on the backend I have servlets that host some RESTFUL services. All the presentation logic is done through getting json objects and modifying the view through javascript. The application is essentially a search engine, but it will have user accounts with different roles. I've been researching some frameworks such as Play and Spring. I'm fairly new to web development, so I was wondering what advantages using server side page rendering would provide? Is it: Speed? Easier development and workflow? Access to existing libraries? More? All of the above?

  • Existent js libs for tileset / map loading and rendering?

    I'm building an rts style overhead tileset game with JavaScript (particularly using Ember.js framework as a base). The map is so large that I'd very much like to be able to load and render the board and layered items in a Google Maps'esque. I'm curious as to whether there are existing libs that would be helpful and already well thought out in these regards vs trying to reinvent the wheel. Are there any such libraries or code examples that would be useful in this area of board / map management?

    Which one of the open-source game engine is better to get started? I read several threads over several forums and found that it is better to write own game engine specific to application. But I need to know the requirements of a game engine, other than Graphics, Physics and AI...     I'm building a website for a student organization I am involved in at my college. Most of the site will be static - i.e. won't change from year-to-year, but certain pieces will. I am high-tech, but most of the others aren't, and I am graduating in the spring. So how should I go about building the website so as to allow those that take over in subsequent years to edit information? Examples: Events: I already plan on using a Google calendar for this Officers: There will be profiles/pictures for all the officers on the web page Connections: Partnerships with other organizations that we have currently, but may not in future, or may add more in future Should I use some form of CMS (Content Management System)? If so, how restrictive are they (e.g. Drupal) to what you can build and then how easy is it to edit.     Currently the project on which I am working is being developed with Spring, Hibernate and struts. The business layer consists of simple java beans with no behavior in them only properties and getter and setter methods, the services are written on them which operates on them and call DAO layer methods and all. My questions is that is it object oriented way of designing or simply the procedure way in which the data and the functions on which they operate are not together. Please provide your thoughts and inputs on how the business logic is design and implemented in j2ee application, is the domain model contains business methods or are they simply dumb objects which have only data and services written on to them.

    I have three UIImageViews. enemy1, enemy1AggroBox and mainSprite. What I want to do is when mainSprite and enemy1AggroBox interect, I want enemy1 to start moving towards mainSprite.   • Basic/research RTS engine/model

    Does a basic/research RTS engine/model exist that can be used as a basis for further experimentation/research? I'd like to avoid reinventing the wheel if possible. I'm aware of Spring Engine and Stratagus, but those are real game engines and may not be the best to experiment with and learn from. Ideally the docs for the model would answer questions like: How exactly do units move? (constant velocity? constant acceleration? constant force?) How is pathfinding handled? Does every grid cell become an A* graph node (may be expensive)? Does it consider threats? How are groups handled? (w.r.t pathfinding and movement) How is combat handled? I'm mostly interested in the low-level model details (for now), not the graphics etc. I've read a lot of the other quesions (and answers/references) tagged RTS but I haven't found my answer yet.

    I want to route my internet traffic over all my available connections (like LAN and Data card(3G)), based on conditions like, if a website is blocked over LAN, that traffic goes through Data Card (or other available internet connection). My ultimate motive is to integrate this feature in my web browser which I have already built using C# and .Net framework. I have found that one can add a route by using the following cmd command - route add DestinationIP mask subnet InterfaceGatewayIP but I am stuck as to how should it be implemented using C#?
