• Passing extended parameter into Sql 2008 connection string

  Hi, I have a need to support extensive auditing capabilities for a system backing into Sql Server 2008. Since I plan to use LINQ (with no Stored Procs), the database would be a clean, zero contact data repository. However, I need to pratically record a snapshot of every change that happens in the db. So, I thought I should use triggers. But then, I need a user id for the particular user (not the connection string user id) to flow through into the database. In oracle, I should have been able to set up a PROXY USER and the trigger would be able to pick that up. Last I checked, there was no proxy user concept in Sql Server. Does anyone know if there's any extender property I can use to flow through my authenticated user name? ps: I don't mind the impact on connection pooling (if any). Thanks. P

• Django design question: extending User to make users that can't log in

  The site I'm working on involves teachers creating student objects. The teacher can choose to make it possible for a student to log into the site (to check calendars, etc) OR the teacher can choose to use the student object only for record keeping and not allow the student to log in. In the student creation form, if the teacher supplies a username and a password, it should create an object of the first kind - one that can log in, i.e. a regular User object. If the teacher does not supply a username/password, it should create the second type. The other requirement is that the teacher should be able to go in later and change a non-logging-in student to the other kind. What's the best way to design for this scenario? Subclass User and make username and password not required? What else would this affect?

What I am trying to do is combine the queries into one query object. In other words, if it loops 3 times and each loop returns 4 rows, I want a query object that has all 12 rows in one object. How do I acheive this?

• WP7/silverlight Images does not stay within a grid/stackpanel when using the toolkit to provide gesture support

  I have few buttons and below that I am displaying an image and have used the WP7/Silverlight toolkit to provide support for Gestures. Everything works fine, until i do gestures like pinch and then moving it up/down. Both these gestures work fine but they do not seem to respect the stackpanel/grid the image is present in and they go over that and on top of the buttons. Do u know how to restrict these? • scons: overriding build options for one file

  Easy question but I don't know the answer. Let's say I have a scons build where my CCFLAGS includes -O1. I have one file needsOptimization.cpp where I would like to override the -O1 with -O2 instead. • WPF combo box, adding an all options item, when binding to an Observable Collection

  So I've got an object that has an observable collection. Most places I bind to this collection I only want the user to select a single item. But in one place I want the combobox to include an all items option. Is the way to do this simply with xaml converter? It seems like doing it in the view model would be a good idea, but it's really a lot dependency object goop to basically wire up an collection that is two objects deep for an on change event, where as the xaml converter just works. But I always feel like xaml converters should be generic and reusable, where in this instance, the xaml converter would be more of a one off. Of course the third option would be to create one off list for UI in the object that contains the standard observable collection. But this seems to be mixing the logic and presentation in a way that makes me uncomfortable.

I've loaded an object 20px by 20px and when I do a collision check I have to use x/y position which is top left in Java2D. How can I do collision detection based on the entire object?   hi there, I bumped into a case where I need a big (=huge) python dictionary, which turned to be quite memory-consuming. However, since all of the values are of a single type (long) - as well as the keys, I figured I can use python (or numpy, doesn't really matter) array for the values ; and wrap the needed interface (in: x ; out: d[x]) with an object which actually uses these arrays for the keys and values storage. I can use a index-conversion object (input -- index, of 1..n, where n is the different-values counter), and return array[index]. I can elaborate on some techniques of how to implement such an indexing-methods with reasonable memory requirement, it works and even pretty good. However, I wonder if there is such a data-structure-object already exists (in python, or wrapped to python from C/++), in any package (I checked collections, and some Google searches). Any comment will be welcome, thanks.

• c#: sms appears to have been sent, but stuck in phone outbox

• How to change the coordinate of a point that is inside a GraphicsPath?

  Is there anyway to change the coordinates of some of the points within a GraphicsPath object while leaving the other points where they are? The GraphicsPath object that gets passed into my method will contain a mixture of polygons and lines. My method would want to look something like: void UpdateGraphicsPath(GraphicsPath gPath, RectangleF regionToBeChanged, PointF delta) { // Find the points in gPath that are inside regionToBeChanged // and move them by delta. // gPath.PathPoints[i].X += delta.X; // Compiles but doesn't work } GraphicsPath.PathPoints seems to be readonly, so does GraphicsPath.PathData.Points. So I am wondering if this is even possible. Perhaps generating a new GraphicsPath object with an updated set of points? How can I know if a point is part of a line or a polygon? If anyone has any suggestions then I would be grateful.

  Hi. I have a TCP Server application that serves each client in a new thread using POSIX Threads and C++. The server calls "listen" on its socket and when a client connects, it makes a new object of class Client. The new object runs in its own thread and processes the client's requests. When a client disconnects, i want some way to tell my main() thread that this thread is done, and main() can delete this object and log something like "Client disconnected". My question is, how do i tell to the main thread, that a thread is done ?

It seems that I get weird results when I run my program. But if I declare the float foo[10] to be const and initialize it in the declaration, I get correct results. Why is this happening?

• Best way to test instance methods without running __init__

  I've got a simple class that gets most of its arguments via init, which also runs a variety of private methods that do most of the work. Output is available either through access to object variables or public methods. Here's the problem - I'd like my unittest framework to directly call the private methods called by init with different data - without going through init. What's the best way to do this? So far, I've been refactoring these classes so that init does less and data is passed in separately. This makes testing easy, but I think the usability of the class suffers a little.   I'm using a thread that is continuously reading from a queue. I see two options: 1 - Since Thread.stop() is deprecated, I can implement a stopThisThread() method that uses a n atomic check-condition variable. 2 - Send a Death Event object or something like that to the queue. When the thread fetches a death event it exists. I prefer the 1st way, however, I don't know when to call the stopThisThread() method, as something might be on it's way to the queue and the stop signal can arrive first (not desirable). Any suggestions?

  Lets say I have domain model with Automobile and Wheels. Wheels is a List of Wheels Wheels has a many-to-one relationship to Automobile. If I get an object back from Hibernate and it has 4 wheels. I take that object remove the 4 wheels and add 4. And then Save. If I ask Hibernate for the object again and it returns an auto with 8 wheels... what are we doing wrong?   My application has to do the following: - if the user enters a query that matches exactly an object in my database, a Activity that shows this object should appear; - if the query doesn't match an exact object, a ArrayList with related objects will be returned and an Activity will display this list. So, as I'm using a SearchView on my ActionBar, I want to know how to open the right Activity based on the result of the query, something like this: if(objectFound) openActivityThatShowsThisObject(); else openActivityWithRelatedResults(); I saw in other question that I could use a facade Activity, but I don't know if that is a good approach. As things stand, i get both whats in the designer and in formload in the comboboxes. How can i stop this? I also have an edit function, so when i edit a record, i want the combo box to be populated by what is already saved. Just a random question, can you stop the user entering a value that isn't in the combo box? Thankyou
