• External usb 3.0 hard drive is not recognised when plugged into usb 3 port (ubuntu natty 64 bit).

  I have an Iomega Prestige Portable External Hard Drive 1TB USB 3.0. It works fine on windows 7 as a usb 3.0 drive. (2.6.38.4-pmagic), the drive was detected fine, I could mount it and got usb 3.0 speeds (at least they double the speeds I got from plugging same drive in usb 2 ports). dmesg in partedmagic did say   After running chkdsk C: /F /R and finding out that my hard disk has 24 KB in bad sectors (log is posted below), I decided to run Windows 7's System File Checker utility (sfc /scannow). SFC showed the ff. message after I ran it: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log." I need him not to be able to: take away other admin permissions change the root password have control over other security/administrative functions I would like him to still be able to: install software (through apt-get) restart apache access mysql configure mysql/apache reboot edit web development configuration type files in /etc/ Other Standard Setups would be happily considered I've never really set up a good sudoers file, so simple example setups would be very useful, even if they're only somewhat similar to the settings that I'm hoping for above. Edit: I have not yet finalized permissions, standard, useful sudo setups are certainly an option, the lists above are more what I'm hoping I can do, I don't know that that setup can be done.

  i've got ubuntu installed with lamp. im using webdav to upload/download files to/from the ubuntu web server, after i have edited the php source files in netbeans. however, i wonder what is best practice for editing source files and committing these changes to the new website. cause if we are 2-3 developers, i guess we have to use svn. but i have never used it before so i wonder how it works. should i install it and then select the /var/www (apaches webroot) as the repository folder? then when i check in, all the changes will apply immediately? could someone please explain following steps: how to download, edit the source files, upload the files and see the new changes in the website. cause i have only worked with a local apache before, and it was only me. now there will be some more programmers so i have to set up a decent, central environment for this, and have to know how netbeans, svn, webdav and apache works all together. thanks!

• Odd one: IE6 showing the "view source" command enabled when I was expecting it to be disabled.

  Hi, OK, I admit this problem is odd. I'm just trying to understand why IE is behaving the way it is. I realise that logic may not apply here :) I have Internet Explorer 6 (Sp1) running on Windows 2000. The IE option "Do not store encrypted pages to disk" is checked (enabled). The temporary internet files folder is empty. TEMP and TMP environment variables are set to valid folders. I'm connected to a web server over SSL. The web server is serving a page over SSL with the HTTP cache-control header set to "no-cache, no-store". I was expecting the "view source" command to be greyed out in this circumstance (as it is on another machine). But it works. When I "view source", I get an entry in the Temporary Internet Files folder with an "internet address" property of "view-source:https://myserver/...." and the content of the page. I wasn't expecting that. I can't understand why one machine is different to another in this regard. Obviously there is some environment/setup difference, but I can't track it down. Anyone have any bright ideas?

• Winforms TabControl causing spurious Paint events for UserControl

  For our project, we've written a WinForms UserControl for graphing. We're seeing some strange behavior when our control is sited in a TabControl - our control continuously fires Paint events, even when there is absolutely no activity by the user. We only see this in the TabControl. When we site our control in other containers such as Forms or Splitters, Paint is only fired when you'd expect e.g. when the control is first displayed, etc. Can anyone suggest why this might be happening? Here's a stack trace from a breakpoint in our control's Paint handler, if that's any help.   My application works just fine until, in some unidentified conditions, it begins throwing this errors: When these errors start appearing, they appear in all over the application, no matter the code is built using ObjectDataSource or SqlDataSource. However, apparently, if the code uses some "classic", code-behind data-binding, that code does not throw errors (they do not show in the application event log), the page is displayed but it does not contain any data.... • Temporarily share/deploy a python (flask) application

  Goal Temporarily (1 month?) deploy/share a python (flask) web app without expensive/complex hosting. More info I've developed a basic mobile web app for the non-profit I work for. It's written in python and uses flask as its framework. I'd like to share this with other employees and beta testers (<25 people). Ideally, I could get some sort of simple hosting space/service and push regular updates to it while we test and iterate on this app. Think something along the lines of dropbox, which of course would not work for this purpose. We do have a website, and hosting services for it, but I'm concerned about using this resource as our website is mission critical and this app is very much pre-alpha at this point. Options I've researched / considered Self host from local machine/network (slow, unreliable) Purchase hosting space (with limited non-profit resources, I'm concerned this is overkill) Using our current web server / hosting (not appropriate for testing) Thanks very much for your time!

In the above case, if the log files are deleted by the user or any administrator even, the bandwidth calculation will not be possible. Q1: *What is the standard way to measure the Bandwidth for various Hosting accounts (of websites) on a single server?* Q2: *If Log parser mechanism (as described above) is used, then how to take care of the security issue?   I'm using custom controllers that cache static resources (CSS, JS, etc.) and images. I'm currently working with a hosting provider that has set me up under a full trust profile. Despite being in full trust, my controllers fail because the caching strategy relies on the File class to directly open a resource file prior to treatment and storage in memory. Is this something that would likely occur in all full trust shared hosting environments or is this specific to my host? The static files live within my application's structure and not in an arbitrary server path. It seems to me that custom caching would require code to access the file directly, and am hoping someone else has dealt with this issue.

On June 12, Oracle and its partners announced the release of Java EE 7, which delivers on three major themes – HTML5, developer productivity, and meeting enterprise demands. The online event attracted over 10,000 views in the first two days! During the online event, Oracle also announced the availability of GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4, the world's first Java EE 7 compatible application server. The primary role of GlassFish Server Open Source Edition has been, and continues to be, driving adoption of the latest release of the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition. Oracle also announced the Java EE 7 SDK, which bundles GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4, as a Java EE 7 learning aid. Last, Oracle publicly announced the Java EE 7 reference implementation based on GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4. Java EE is a popular platform, as evidenced by the 20+ Java EE 6 compatible implementations available to choose from. After the launch of Java EE 7 and GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4, we began planning the Java EE 8 roadmap, which was covered during the JavaOne Strategy Keynote. To summarize, there is a lot of interest in improving on HTML5 support, Cloud, and investigating NoSQL support. We received a lot of great feedback from the community and customers on what they would like to see in Java EE 8. As we approached JavaOne 2013, we started planning the GlassFish Server roadmap. What we announced at JavaOne was that GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4.1 is scheduled for 2014. Here is an update to that roadmap. GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4.1 is scheduled for 2014 We are planning updates as needed to GlassFish Server Open Source Edition, which is commercially unsupported As we head towards Java EE 8: The trunk will eventually transition to GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5 as a Java EE 8 implementation The Java EE 8 Reference Implementation will be derived from GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 5. This replicates what has been done in past Java EE and GlassFish Server releases. Oracle will no longer release future major releases of Oracle GlassFish Server with commercial support – specifically Oracle GlassFish Server 4.x with commercial Java EE 7 support will not be released. Commercial Java EE 7 support will be provided from WebLogic Server. Oracle GlassFish Server will not be releasing a 4.x commercial version Expanding on that last bullet, new and existing Oracle GlassFish Server 2.1.x and 3.1.x commercial customers will continue to be supported according to the Oracle Lifetime Support Policy. Both Oracle GlassFish Server 3.x and Oracle WebLogic Server 12c support Oracle Access Manager, Oracle Coherence, Oracle Directory Server, Oracle Virtual Directory, Oracle Database, Oracle Enterprise Manager and are entitled to support for the underlying Oracle JDK. To summarize, Oracle is committed to the future of Java EE.  Java EE 7 has been released and planning for Java EE 8 has begun. GlassFish Server Open Source Edition continues to be the strategic foundation for Java EE reference implementation going forward. And for developers, updates will be delivered as needed to continue to deliver a great developer experience for GlassFish Server Open Source Edition.   I have an applet which loads nicely when accessed locally (both IE and Firefox). However, when I put my webpage in a webserver (local IPlanet), it refuses to load on Firefox (but still fine on IE).   I read that SQL Server 2008 Express R2 database size limit has increased to 10G. That's good news. Can I use the Express edition of SQL Server to offer web hosting services to the public? Microsoft should be best in answering this but I can't find a clear answer on their site. I am also seeing several Windows web hosting plans include SQL Server as a total package for less than $5/month. I am wondering how they can afford to offer this.

• Control Panel display as a menu does not work upon initial install of a Windows 2008 R2 server

  I've seen this a couple of times now.  Upon initial installation of a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, the control panel is a button.  But if you go to the task bar property >> Start Menu tab >> Customize, you will see the option is "Display as a menu".  Click "Display as a link" and press OK, then come back to the same area and select "Display as a menu" will solve the problem.
