  • Please explain this php expression "!$variable"

    - by DogBot
    What does an exclamaton mark in front of a variable mean? And how is it being used in this piece of code? EDIT: From the answers so far I suspect that I also should mention that this code is in a function where one of the parameters is $mytype ....would this be a way of checking if $mytype was passed? - Thanks to all of the responders so far. $myclass = null; if ($mytype == null && ($PAGE->pagetype <> 'site-index' && $PAGE->pagetype <>'admin-index')) { return $myclass; } elseif ($mytype == null && ($PAGE->pagetype == 'site-index' || $PAGE->pagetype =='admin-index')) { $myclass = ' active_tree_node'; return $myclass; } elseif (!$mytype == null && ($PAGE->pagetype == 'site-index' || $PAGE->pagetype =='admin-index')) { return $myclass; }`

  • PHP use function return value as array

    - by Richard Knop
    Why is it that this works: $cacheMatchesNotPlayed = $cache->load('externalData'); $cacheMatchesNotPlayed = $cacheMatchesNotPlayed['matchesNotPlayed']; But this doesn't work: $cacheMatchesNotPlayed = $cache->load('externalData')['matchesNotPlayed']; Is there some reason for it? The second bit is easier to write.

  • Php string handling triks

    - by Dam
    Hi my question Need to get the 10 word before and 10 words after for the given text . i mean need to start the 10 words before the keyword and end with 10 word after the key word. Given text : "Twenty-three" The main trick : content having some html tags etc .. tags need to keep that tag with this content only . need to display the words from 10before - 10after content is bellow : <div id="hpFeatureBoxInt"><h3><a href="/go/homepage/i/int/news/world/1/-/news/1/hi/world/europe/8592190.stm">Suicide bombings hit Moscow Metro</a></h3><p>Past suicide bombings in Moscow have been blamed on Islamist rebels At least 35 people have been killed after two female suicide bombers blew themselves up on Moscow Metro trains in the morning rush hour,<h2><span class="dy">Top News Story</span></h2> officials say.<img height="150" width="201" alt="Emergency services carry a body from a Metro station in Moscow (29 March 2010)" src="http://wwwimg.bbc.co.uk/feedengine/homepage/images/_47550689_moscowap203_201x150.jpg">Twenty-three died in the first blast at 0756 (0356 GMT) as a<a href="#"> train stood </a>at the central Lubyanka station, beneath the offices of the FSB intelligence agency.About 40 minutes later, a second explosion ripped through a train at Park Kultury, leaving another 12 dead.No-one has said they carried out the worst attack in the capital since 2004. </p><p id="fbilisten"><a href="/go/homepage/i/int/news/heading/-/news/">More from BBC News</a></p></div> Thank you

  • JSON Returning Null in PHP

    - by kira423
    Here is the two scripts I have Script 1: if(sha1($json+$secret) == $_POST['signature']) { $conversion_id = md5(($obj['amount'])); echo "OK"; echo $conversion_id; mysql_query("INSERT INTO completed (`id`,`uid`,`completedid`) VALUES ('','".$obj['uid']."','".$conversion_id."')"); } else { } ?> Script 2: <? $json = $_POST['payload']; $secret = "78f12668216b562a79d46b170dc59f695070e532"; $obj = json_decode($json); if(sha1($json+$secret) == $_POST['signature']) { print "OK"; } else { } ?> The problem here is that it is returning all NULL values. I am not an expert with JSON so I have no idea what is going on here. I really have no way of testing it because the information is coming from an outside website sending information such as this: { payload: { uid: "900af657a65e", amount: 50, adjusted_amount: 25 }, signature: "4dd0f5da77ecaf88628967bbd91d9506" } The site allows me to test the script, but because json_decode is providing NULL values it will not get through the signature block. Is there a way I can test it myself? Or is there a simple error in this script that I may have just looked over?

  • PHP - Check for whitespace at beginning of string

    - by ITg
    I need to use preg_match to check that only a-z0-9. is used (including full stop(.)). I don't want to replace anything. My problem is that it doesn't notice white space at beginning of a string. Also, if anyone knows how to check there is no two full stops in a row, I would be very grateful. What I have so far: ("/[^a-z0-9.]+$/",$request) Thanks !

  • What is the fastest XML parser in PHP?

    - by Jakub Lédl
    Hi, for a certain project, I need some way to parse XML and get data from it. So I wonder, which one of built-in parsers is the fastest? Also, it would be nice of the parser could accept a XML string as input - I have my own implementation of thread-safe working with files and I don't want some nasty non-thread-safe libraries to make my efforts useless.

  • php extending but with a new constructor...possible?

    - by Patrick
    I have a class: class test { function __construct() { print 'hello'; } function func_one() { print 'world'; } } what I would like to do is a have a class that sort of extends the test class. I say 'sort of', because the class needs to be able to run whatever function the test class is able to run, but NOT run the construct unless I ask it to. I do not want to override the construct. Anyone has any idea how to achieve this?

  • Why can’t PHP script write a file on server 2008 via command line or task scheduler?

    - by rg89
    I created a question on serverfault.com, and it was recommended that I ask here. http://serverfault.com/questions/140669/why-cant-php-script-write-a-file-on-server-2008-via-command-line-or-task-schedul I have a PHP script. It runs well when I use a browser. It writes an XML file in the same directory. The script takes ~60 seconds to run, and the resulting XML file is ~16 MB. I am running PHP 5.2.13 via FastCGI on Windows Server Web edition SP1 64 bit. The code pulls inventory from SQL server, runs a loop to build an XML file for a third party. I created a task in task scheduler to run c:\php5\php.exe "D:\inetpub\tools\build.php" The task scheduler shows a time lapse of about a minute, which is how long the script takes to run in a browser. No error returned, but no file created. Each time I make a change to the scheduled task properties, a user password box comes up and I enter the administrator account password. If I run this same path and argument at a command line it does not error and does not create the file. When I right click run command prompt as an administrator, the file is still not created. I get my echo statement "file published" that is after the file creation and no error is returned. I am doing a simple fopen fwrite fclose to save the contents of a php variable to a .xml file, and the file only gets created when the script is run through the browser. Here's what happens after the xml-building loop: $feedContent .= "</feed"; sqlsrv_close( $conn ); echo "<p>feed built</p>"; $feedFile = "feed.xml"; $handler = fopen($feedFile, 'w'); fwrite( $handler, $feedContent ); fclose( $handler ); echo "<p>file published</p>"; Thanks

  • How do I use cookies to store users' recent site history(PHP)?

    - by ggfan
    I decided to make a recent view box that allows users to see what links they clicked on before. Whenever they click on a posting, the posting's id gets stored in a cookie and displays it in the recent view box. In my ad.php, I have a definerecentview function that stores the posting's id (so I can call it later when trying to get the posting's information such as title, price from the database) in a cookie. How do I create a cookie array for this? **EXAMPLE:** user clicks on ad.php?posting_id='200' //this is in the ad.php function definerecentview() { $posting_id=$_GET['posting_id']; //this adds 30 days to the current time $Month = 2592000 + time(); $i=1; if (isset($posting_id)){ //lost here for($i=1,$i< ???,$i++){ setcookie("recentviewitem[$i]", $posting_id, $Month); } } } function displayrecentviews() { echo "<div class='recentviews'>"; echo "Recent Views"; if (isset($_COOKIE['recentviewitem'])) { foreach ($_COOKIE['recentviewitem'] as $name => $value) { echo "$name : $value <br />\n"; //right now just shows the posting_id } } echo "</div>"; } How do I use a for loop or foreach loop to make it that whenever a user clicks on an ad, it makes an array in the cookie? So it would be like.. 1. clicks on ad.php?posting_id=200 --- setcookie("recentviewitem[1]",200,$month); 2. clicks on ad.php?posting_id=201 --- setcookie("recentviewitem[2]",201,$month); 3. clicks on ad.php?posting_id=202 --- setcookie("recentviewitem[3]",202,$month); Then in the displayrecentitem function, I just echo however many cookies were set? I'm just totally lost in creating a for loop that sets the cookies. any help would be appreciated

  • Replacing keywords in text with php & mysql

    - by intacto
    Hello, I have a news site containing an archive with more than 1 million news. I created a word definitions database with about 3000 entries, consisting of word-definition pairs. What I want to do is adding a definition next to every occurence of these words in the news. I cant make a static change as I can add a new keyword everyday, so i can make it realtime or cached. The question is, a str_replace or a preg_replace would be very slow for searching 3 thousand keywords in a text and replacing them. Are there any fast alternatives?

  • SQL return error within PHP

    - by Luke
    I use GET to get the id of a result. $id = $_GET['id']; I then use the following code: <? $q = $database->friendlyDetails($id); while( $row=mysql_fetch_assoc($q) ) { $hu = $row['home_user']; $ht = $row['home_team']; $hs = $row['home_score']; $au = $row['away_user']; $at = $row['away_team']; $as = $row['away_score']; $game = $row['game']; $name = $row['name']; $match = $row['match_report1']; $compid = $row['compid']; $date = $row['date_submitted']; $sub = $row['user_submitted']; } ?> And friendDetails- function friendlyDetails($i) { $q = "SELECT * FROM ".TBL_SUB_RESULTS." INNER JOIN ".TBL_FRIENDLY." ON ".TBL_FRIENDLY.".id = ".TBL_SUB_RESULTS.".compid WHERE ".TBL_SUB_RESULTS.".id = '$i'"; return mysql_query($q, $this->connection); } For some reason, the code will only return what is under id =1. Can anyone see anything obvious I am doing wrong?

  • php foreach looping twice

    - by Jack
    Hi, I am trying to loop through some data from my database but it is outputting it twice. $fields = 'field1, field2, field3, field4'; $idFields = 'id_field1, id_field2, id_field3, id_field4'; $tables = 'table1, table2, table3, table4'; $table = explode(', ', $tables); $field = explode(', ', $fields); $id = explode(', ', $idFields); $str = 'Egg'; $i=1; while ($i<4) { $f = $field[$i]; $idd = $id[$i]; $sql = $writeConn->select()->from($table[$i], array($f, $idd))->where($f . " LIKE ?", '%' . $str . '%'); $string = '<a title="' . $str . '" href="' . $currentProductUrl . '">' . $str . '</a>'; $result = $writeConn->fetchAssoc($sql); foreach ($result as $row) { echo 'Success! Found ' . $str . ' in ' . $f . '. ID: ' . $row[$idd] . '.<br>'; } $i++; } Outputting: Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: 5. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: 5. Could someone please explain why it is looping through both the indexed and associative values? UPDATE I did some more playing around and tried the following. $fields = 'field1, field2, field3, field4'; $idFields = 'id_field1, id_field2, id_field3, id_field4'; $tables = 'table1, table2, table3, table4'; $table = explode(', ', $tables); $field = explode(', ', $fields); $id = explode(', ', $idFields); $str = 'Egg'; $i=1; while ($i<4) { $f = $field[$i]; $idd = $id[$i]; $sql = $writeConn->select()->from($table[$i], array($f, $idd))->where($f . " LIKE ?", '%' . $str . '%'); $string = '<a title="' . $str . '" href="' . $currentProductUrl . '">' . $str . '</a>'; $sth = $writeConn->prepare($sql); $sth->execute(); $result = $sth->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC); foreach ($result as $row) { echo 'Success! Found ' . $str . ' in ' . $f . '. ID: ' . $row[$idd] . '.<br>'; } $i++; } The interesting thing is that this outputs the below: Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: E. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: E. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: 5. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: 5. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: E. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: E. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: 5. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: 5. I have also tried adding $i to the output and this outputs 2 as expected. If I change fetch(PDO::FETCH_BOTH) to fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC) the output is as follows: Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: E. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: E. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: 5. Success! Found Egg in field3. ID: 5. This has been bugging me for too long, so if anyone could help I would be very appreciative!

  • PHP strip_tags only at the end of the string

    - by Solomon Closson
    Ok, well, I just want to use strip_tags function on the very end of a string to get rid of any <br /> tags. Here's what I have now, but this is no good because it strips these tags from everywhere in the string, which is not what I want. I only need them stripped out if it's at the end of the string... $string = strip_tags($string, strtr($string, array('<br />' => '&#10;'))); How can I do this same thing, except only at the very end of a string?? Thanks guys!!

  • Handling large (object) datasets with PHP

    - by Aron Rotteveel
    I am currently working on a project that extensively relies on the EAV model. Both entities as their attributes are individually represented by a model, sometimes extending other models (or at least, base models). This has worked quite well so far since most areas of the application only rely on filtered sets of entities, and not the entire dataset. Now, however, I need to parse the entire dataset (IE: all entities and all their attributes) in order to provide a sorting/filtering algorithm based on the attributes. The application currently consists of aproximately 2200 entities, each with aproximately 100 attributes. Every entity is represented by a single model (for example Client_Model_Entity) and has a protected property called $_attributes, which is an array of Attribute objects. Each entity object is about 500KB, which results in an incredible load on the server. With 2000 entities, this means a single task would take 1GB of RAM (and a lot of CPU time) in order to work, which is unacceptable. Are there any patterns or common approaches to iterating over such large datasets? Paging is not really an option, since everything has to be taken into account in order to provide the sorting algorithm.

  • My IF statement is changing variables in PHP

    - by user1902509
    I am fairly new to the whole programming thing, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. It seems odd that I haven't run into it before. I am trying to make an order form for a cake. You fill out the form, submit it, and it will then display the order in a new window, where you then hit "submit," and upload it to the Database. I have a series of If Statements to check for errors in the form before submitting it. Here is a simplified version of the code. Writing means any writing you want on the cake, Name is your name, and cake is what type of cake you want (the default is "None"). try { $name = trim($params->name); $cake = trim($params->cake); $writing = trim($params->writing); if (strlen($name) < 3){ throw new Exception("Please enter Your name."); } if ($cake = "None") { throw new Exception("Please select a Cake" } if ($cake = "Caramel Apple Pie" or $cake = "Pumpkin Pie" or $cake = "Eggnog Pie" and strlen($writing) > 1) { throw new Exception("We are sorry, but you can't write on any of our specialty pies."); } } catch(Exception $x) { $error = $x->getmessage(); } So what is happening is that when I go and hit submit the first time, the correct cake type comes up, but when you submit it the second time, the error comes up saying that I have "None" selected. All the other values are there and remain the same. I think the problem is that the first "IF" statement (Where it says "If($cake = "None")) is automatically changing $cake to "None" because I have tried commenting just that statement out, and it will then change the cake to be "Caramel Apple Pie," which is in the top of the next IF statement. Anyone know why it is doing this? And how to fix it?
