• Understanding a lighttpd.conf file?

  Hi all, I've been given a lighttpd.conf that someone else wrote and need help working out how to serve it. I'm 90% of the way there but stuck... The index.html page appears, but links and CSS files don't point to the right place. To clarify, the links and CSS files are all pointing to a 'file:///' URL. • Which character is first among 4 characters in c++

  In my project I take a string from user and then I need to check if vowels a, e, I, O, U are present. If so, I have to find out which one comes first in the string and which one comes next after that. For example, if a user gave input something like this: char expr[] = "this is for something real"; I comes first, then I again, then O and so on. I checked whether the characters are in the string or not using strchr(expr,'character here'). To find which character comes first, I find the index of each character using const char *ptr = strchr(expr, characters here); if(ptr) { int index = ptr - expr; } After that I check which index is bigger. But this is very long process. Is there a smarter way to do this?

• Rails - Rendering a Partial without having to use "_" in front of the filename?

  How do I render a partial without having to supply the "_" in front of the file name? Is there a parameter I can call to not use it? This problem popped up using RABL and Backbone - using RABL requires me to have a file in my views like "index.json.rabl". But, when I use embed the JSON right on the page load (as is usual with Backbone), I'm required to call the file "index.json.rabl". These 2 files are the exact same thing, just required to have different names. I'm looking to use just 1 file, "index.json.rabl" and force the render() function to look for that file name, without the "".

  Hi, In the root directory of a small site i'm developing i have the following .htacess file: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-F RewriteRule .$ index.php that basically allows me to have pretty urls as it remaps every path that does not exists on the server (eg : /user/details/145 ) as a call to index.php where I handle it MVC-style. While this works ok on MacOs, this morning I have to work on another machine that has Windows (the apache server is run by xampp) and it does not work as it seems to redirect all the calls (eg those to static files like images) to index.php Any help?

• Javascript not executing (I included format.js)

  I added format.js to my controller, yet I still cannot get the js in index.js.erb to execute when I view my index page. The only thing I can figure out is that it must be because of the model name. I had to add ActiveSupport::Inflector.inflections do |inflect| inflect.irregular 'business', 'businesses' end to my inflections.rb file...because my model is called Business. my views/js are located at views/businesses/* Please help before I pull my hair out! All I have in the index.js.erb file is: alert(1); Obviously the goal is that I will get an alert when I finally get the issue fixed, letting me know it is working.

• Default Contoller in CodeIgniter

  I am wondering if there is any other configuration options for a default controller. For example - if I have a controller called "site" and I set the default controller in the following file: application/config/routes.php to: $route['default_controller'] = "site"; I should be able to go to http://localhost and that brings up the index(); function in the site controller. However, if I try to do go to http://localhost/index.php/index2 to load the index2(); function I get a 404 error. If I change the URL to http://localhost/index.php/site/index2 it works fine - but I thought already set the default controller. Is there any way around this?

• Mod_rewrite trouble: Want to direct from ?= to a flat link, nothing seems to work.

  I have a site that currently serves results as example.com/index.php?show=foo and I'd like it to read example.com/show/foo. My understanding is this would make them visible to search engine robots, and it seems a much simpler way to do this than to create a couple hundred html files... I've tried the following .htaccess code: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^show/(.*)$ index.php?show=$1 [NC,L] No dice. • mod_rewrite: no ? and # in REQUEST_URI

  Hello. What I'm trying to do: have pretty URLs in the format 'http://domain.tld/one/two/three', that get handled by a PHP script (index.php) by looking at the REQUEST_URI server variable. In my example, the REQUEST_URI would be '/one/two/three'. (Btw., is this a good idea in general?) I'm using Apache's mod_rewrite to achieve that. Here's the RewriteRule I use in my .htaccess: RewriteRule ^/?([a-zA-Z/]+)/?$ /index.php [NC,L] This works really well thus far; it forwards every REQUEST_URI that consists of a-z, A-Z or a '/' to /index.php, where it is processed. Only drawback: '?' (question marks) and '#' (hash keys) seem to still be allowed in the REQUEST_URI, maybe even more characters that I've yet to find. Is it possible to restrict those via my .htaccess and an adequate addition to the RewriteRule? Thanks!

• .Htaccess & Wildcard Subdomains — Can't get other variables to work!

  It would be absolutely awesome if someone could help me out here. I have a domain, let's call it "example.com". I have wildcard subdomains setup and working great. The only problem is I can't get htaccess to see anything else like subdomain.example.com/profile/some_name/some_id_number/. In fact, I can type any garbage after the domain and it will still just show me the home screen. Here's what's in my htaccess file now: Options +FollowSymLinks Options +Indexes Options -Multiviews RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/app/index.php RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.com RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+)\.example\.com RewriteRule (.*) /app/index.php?user%1 [L] I can see why that wouldn't work yet, but I wanted to add something similar to the following: RewriteRule ^profile/([^/]+)/([^/]+) /app/index.php?page=profile&username=$1&user_id=$2 [nc] But it's not working at all. The server doesn't even really show signs that it's even seeing it there. Any ideas?

• How do I link to another action in Magento whilst passing a parameter to the controller?

  I need to pass a parameter, because I would like to redirect back to the module and query string of the current page. So I can get from showdown/index?id=35 --click--- showdown/vote?id=1 showdown/vote?id=1 --redirect-- showdown/index?id=35 The vote action is not seen. (The redirect method doesn't work as it takes the index.php url only and no actions, and I cannot find a helper in Magento for creating hyperlinks.) Does Magneto have a link helper for this? Example of stuff I want: <a href="<?php echo Mage::Helper->Link->($url, $array); ?> then $array or whatever variables gets sent to the controller.

  Hello, I am using jQuery for a simple website and have a main page 'index.html' which can load some content (e.g. 'info1.html' or 'info2.html') via jQuery ajax requests, and display the result of these requests inside an element in the 'index.html' page. If a user somehow visits say 'info1.html' directly, is their a way to redirect or load the main 'index.html' page? (or what's best practice for this type of thing) as Google is indexing all the small html files used for the ajax requests and sometimes a user can click into the site via these pages. Thanks.

  Locking is a mechanism used by the SQL Server Database Engine to synchronize access by multiple users to the same piece of data, at the same time. In simpler words, it maintains the integrity of data by protecting (or preventing) access to the database object. From Book On-Line: LCK_M_BU Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire a Bulk Update (BU) lock. LCK_M_IS Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire an Intent Shared (IS) lock. LCK_M_IU Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire an Intent Update (IU) lock. LCK_M_IX Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire an Intent Exclusive (IX) lock. LCK_M_S Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire a Shared lock. LCK_M_SCH_M Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire a Schema Modify lock. LCK_M_SCH_S Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire a Schema Share lock. LCK_M_SIU Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire a Shared With Intent Update lock. LCK_M_SIX Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire a Shared With Intent Exclusive lock. LCK_M_U Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire an Update lock. LCK_M_UIX Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire an Update With Intent Exclusive lock. LCK_M_X Occurs when a task is waiting to acquire an Exclusive lock. LCK_M_XXX Explanation: I think the explanation of this wait type is the simplest. When any task is waiting to acquire lock on any resource, this particular wait type occurs. The common reason for the task to be waiting to put lock on the resource is that the resource is already locked and some other operations may be going on within it. This wait also indicates that resources are not available or are occupied at the moment due to some reasons. There is a good chance that the waiting queries start to time out if this wait type is very high. Client application may degrade the performance as well. You can use various methods to find blocking queries: EXEC sp_who2 SQL SERVER – Quickest Way to Identify Blocking Query and Resolution – Dirty Solution DMV – sys.dm_tran_locks DMV – sys.dm_os_waiting_tasks Reducing LCK_M_XXX wait: Check the Explicit Transactions. If transactions are very long, this wait type can start building up because of other waiting transactions. Keep the transactions small. Serialization Isolation can build up this wait type. If that is an acceptable isolation for your business, this wait type may be natural. The default isolation of SQL Server is ‘Read Committed’. One of my clients has changed their isolation to “Read Uncommitted”. I strongly discourage the use of this because this will probably lead to having lots of dirty data in the database. Identify blocking queries mentioned using various methods described above, and then optimize them. Partition can be one of the options to consider because this will allow transactions to execute concurrently on different partitions. If there are runaway queries, use timeout. (Please discuss this solution with your database architect first as timeout can work against you). Check if there is no memory and IO-related issue using the following counters: Checking Memory Related Perfmon Counters SQLServer: Memory Manager\Memory Grants Pending (Consistent higher value than 0-2) SQLServer: Memory Manager\Memory Grants Outstanding (Consistent higher value, Benchmark) SQLServer: Buffer Manager\Buffer Hit Cache Ratio (Higher is better, greater than 90% for usually smooth running system) SQLServer: Buffer Manager\Page Life Expectancy (Consistent lower value than 300 seconds) Memory: Available Mbytes (Information only) Memory: Page Faults/sec (Benchmark only) Memory: Pages/sec (Benchmark only) Checking Disk Related Perfmon Counters Average Disk sec/Read (Consistent higher value than 4-8 millisecond is not good) Average Disk sec/Write (Consistent higher value than 4-8 millisecond is not good) Average Disk Read/Write Queue Length (Consistent higher value than benchmark is not good) Read all the post in the Wait Types and Queue series. Note: The information presented here is from my experience and there is no way that I claim it to be accurate. I suggest reading Book OnLine for further clarification. All the discussion of Wait Stats in this blog is generic and varies from system to system. It is recommended that you test this on a development server before implementing it to a production server.
