  • Check packet vlan tag using Tap virtual interface

    Hi all, I am trying to learn how to implement virtual interfaces using the Tap driver. So far my understanding is that using the tap driver I can create a virtual interface and then have a userspace program attach to this interface to analyse the data coming into this device. Now what if I attach a cisco switch to my LAN interface using a TRUNK link, forward all the packets coming into the LAN interface to the virtual tap interface and then in my program attached to this interface do some coding to analyze the vlan tag in the packet and only allow certain vlans to be forwarded to the WAN interface ? Does this sound plausible or is there is flaw in my basic understanding ? Thanks for the help! ankit

  • Problem after resizing partition for Fedora under Vmware fusion

    Hi, I am running FC9 under VMware Fusion 3.0 I wanted to resize my /dev/sda2 partition. In order to do that I did the following: 0. changed the size of the vmware file (under VMware settings). 1. rebooted the host to rescue mode without mounted disks 2. fdisk - removed & added /dev/sda2 - i had bigger /dev/sda2 3. lvm pvresize /dev/sda2 4. lvm pvdisplay - it showed me bigger size on /dev/VolGroup00 for /dev/sda2 5. lvm vgchange -a y - device-mapper: reload ioctl failed: Invalid argument - 2 logical volume(s) in volume group "VolGroup00" now active This is not true because there is no /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 My whole "/" disappeared. dmsetup table, shows: VolGroup00-LogVol01: 0 2097152 linear 8:2 38338944 VolGroup00-LogVol00: Can some one help me to solve this?     I am copying the files from machineB and machineC into machineA as I am running my below shell script on machineA. If the files is not there in machineB then it should be there in machineC for sure so I will try copying the files from machineB first, if it is not there in machineB then I will try copying the same files from machineC. I am copying the files in parallel using GNU Parallel library and it is working fine. Currently I am copying 10 files in parallel. Problem Statement:- With the above script at some point I am getting this exception - ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host And I guess the error is typically caused by too many ssh/scp starting at the same time. That leads me to believe /etc/ssh/sshd_config:MaxStartups and MaxSessions is set too low. But my question is on which server it is pretty low? machineB and machineC or machineA? And on what machines I need to increase the number?   • Running OLEDB VB6 Windows Progam Under Wine

    I'm trying to install a VB6 Windows program that uses OLEDB to access VFP tables to run under Wine 1.0.1 on Ubuntu 9.10. Wine is configured to Windows version Windows XP. The program install ran okay, and I used winetricks to install MDAC 2.8 and JET 4.0 sp7. I also installed Microsoft's vfpoledb and vfpodbc drivers. The application starts and displays an error message, item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

    ...and how do I find out? Say I am about to reboot a server. I would like to minimize downtime, so thinking about wrapping reboot in an alias that says "hang on buddy, you're going to hit a fsck on boot". Next question.. what's the best way to say "lets do it next time?" set the last check date? I know tune2fs can set a bunch of parameters, but how would I get em?

    I have installed proftpd on my debian 4.0 server. I have modified the proftpd.conf file so that there is a statement for AuthUserFile, which points to a valid file. The file is configured per the proftpd specs, however the user that I have placed in this file is not able to log-in to the server. What could I be doing wrong?   • Why isn't MediaWiki loading?

    I recently set up MediaWiki on an Apache server with PostgreSQL. It installed successfully. However, when I try to access the website, I get a blank page. The error log reports the following. Others have said using chown to make LocalSettings match the Apache user, which is just 'apache' in my case. None of these solutions have worked for me. Does anyone have other suggestions or maybe I missed something?

  • GDM Won't Automatically Start After Boot

    Ubuntu 10.04 Hi guys. I'm not sure why but quite recently, my ubuntu desktop started bringing up the command prompt login screen after booting. I want GDM to start up by default. I can manually bring up GDM by typing: sudo service gdm start or sudo /usr/sbin/gdm but I want something more permanent. The contents of /etc/X11/default-display-manager point to /usr/sbin/gdm The chkconfig status for GDM shows that it's off on all run levels... could that be it? I tried running: sudo chkconfig --add gdm and just got errors... Any ideas? How can I get GDM to automatically come up again? Any/all help is appreciated! -M

    I'm attempting to use includeAllDisks in my snmpd.conf for RHEL 4 and RHEL 5 machines, but no data is being returned on the Cacti Data Query. snmpwalk isn't giving me any results. $ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 172.19.4.140 .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.1 UCD-SNMP-MIB::dskIndex = No Such Instance currently exists at this OID If I add disk / to snmpd.conf snmpwalk gives me the right results. $ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 172.19.4.140 .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.1 UCD-SNMP-MIB::dskIndex.1 = INTEGER: 1 I am wanting to deploy this to many systems using the same snmpd.conf (via Satellite). The disk configuration varies among systems and manually configuring snmpd.conf is not an optimal solution. Is there a way to get includeAllDisks to work? My snmpd.conf file: rocommunity public <cacti server IP> dontPrintUnits true includeAllDisks

  • [Resolved] Finishing the install of php-xmlrpc on a VPS

    Hi, please help if possible: 1) I was able to completely install php-xmlrpc on a different VPS which uses lxAdmin control panel, without even needing to rebuild php. 2) On a VPS with Direct Admin, I followed detailed instructions (found at the DA site), this included rebuilding php, and after reboot, xml/rpc still doesn't show up in phpinfo.php. Details: centOS 5.3 php5.2.10 php-xmlrpc is installed on the VPS, and the installation "success" was confirmed at the time. Several days later, PHP was rebuilt following detailed instructions (for adding extra modules) provided by direct admin at their site. In the end, xml/rpc still doesn't show up in phpinfo.php. Anyone know how to make this work with Direct Admin? Thank you.

  • How do I install a CentOS 5.5 in Xenserver?

    When I try to install CentOS 5.5 in a new VM, I get an error that the installer is unable to retrieve stage2.img. I have verified the URL and I am able to download this file from a web browser. I suspect it is a networking/routing issue, but I can't figure out what is wrong. This is a new install of XenServer 5.6 on a new server. This server is remote, so I don't have physical access to the box - only ssh access. Can anyone give me some tips on what might be wrong here? Do I need to do something special to get a net install to work? For what its worth, I see the same error trying to install Debian Woody using a similar process. Thanks.

That way, I could pipe the combined results to a single e-mail or a single file.

  • SSH - using keys works, but not in a script

    I'm kind of confused, I have set up public keys between two servers and it works great, sort of. It only works if I ssh manually from a terminal. When I put the ssh command into a python script, it asks me for a password to login. The script is using rsync to sync up a directory from one server to the other. manual ssh command that works, no password prompt, automatic login: ssh -p 1234 [email protected] In the Python script: rsync --ignore-existing --delete --stats --progress -rp -e "ssh -p 1234" [email protected]:/directory/ /other/directory/ What gives? (obviously, ssh details are fake)
