    I'm trying to figure out how to implement an event in a ruby class. Specifically, I am trying to make my class implement an interface (INotifyPropertyChanged) that includes an event (PropertyChanged). I can create my add_PropertyChanged and remove_PropertyChanged methods... but then what?   • iphone dev - activity indicator scroll with the table

    In a view of my app I subclass tableViewController and has an activity indicator shown up when the table content is loading. I put it in the center of the screen but it scroll with the tableView (I guess the reason is I add it as a subview of the table view). Is there a way that I can keep the activity indicator in the center of the screen even the table is scrolling? Thanks in advanced.

  • JavaScript "confirm" on SelectedIndexChange of RadioButtonList

    I have a RadioButtonList control and I would like to do a Javascript "confirm" when a user tries to change the index. Currently AutoPostBack is set to TRUE. I can, of course, just call __doPostBack from within a javascript function, etc. I tried a few things with jQuery but you have to worry about mousedown vs. click and then there is always the fact that you can click the checkbox label to select it, etc. Anyone have a nice solution for this? To be clear, I am looking for a way to prompt the user with a confirm box prior to their selection being made and triggering a postback.

  • Rails Asset Caching Breaks First few page loads

    We're using Rails asset caching for JS and CSS like this: <%= javascript_include_tag :defaults, 'autocomplete', 'searchbox', 'jqmodal', :cache => set_asset_cache(:admins) %> In our deploy we call rake tmp:assets:clear each time. The problem is that the first few page loads after a deploy come up with no css on the page. I guess until the cached all.js and all.css have been regenerated. We deploy many times per day and this is scary for any users who happen to come across a busted page. Have people found any way to make this smoother so the new cached assets are guaranteed to be there on the first new page load?

  • How can I convert arbitrary strings to CLS-Compliant names?

    Does anyone know of an algorithm (or external library) that I could call to convert an arbitrary string (i.e. outside my control) to be CLS compliant? I am generating a dynamic RDLC (Client Report Definition) for an ASP.Net Report Viewer control and some of the field names need to be based on strings entered by the user. Unfortunately I have little control over the entry of the field names by the client (through a 3rd party CMS). But I am quite flexible around substitutions required to create the compliant string. I have a reactive hack algorithm for now along the lines of: public static string FormatForDynamicRdlc(this string s) { //We need to change this string to be CLS compliant. return s.Replace(Environment.NewLine, string.Empty) .Replace("\t", string.Empty) .Replace(",", string.Empty) .Replace("-", "_") .Replace(" ", "_"); } But I would love something more comprehensive. Any ideas?     I am trying to get a Javascript object to use the "this" assignments of another objects' constructor, as well as assume all that objects' prototype functions. Here's an example of what I'm attempting to accomplish: /* The base - contains assignments to 'this', and prototype functions */ function ObjX(a,b) { this.$a = a, $b = b; } ObjX.prototype.getB() { return this.$b; } function ObjY(a,b,c) { // here's what I'm thinking should work: this = ObjX(a, b * 12); /* and by 'work' I mean ObjY should have the following properties: * ObjY.$a == a, ObjY.$b == b * 12, * and ObjY.getB() == ObjX.prototype.getB() * ... unfortunately I get the error: * Uncaught ReferenceError: Invalid left-hand side in assignment */ this.$c = c; // just to further distinguish ObjY from ObjX. } I'd be grateful for your thoughts on how to have ObjY subsume ObjX's assignments to 'this' (i.e. not have to repeat all the this.$* = * assignments in ObjY's constructor) and have ObjY assume ObjX.prototype. My first thought is to try the following: function ObjY(a,b,c) { this.prototype = new ObjX(a,b*12); } Ideally I'd like to learn how to do this in a prototypal way (i.e. not have to use any of those 'classic' OOP substitutes like Base2).     The name pretty much says it all. Does anyone know how to accomplish functional testing when you are not using migrations in Rails? I'd be open to any advice or third party libraries (if there are any).     I have two queries that I am using to generate a report from, the problem is when I run the report, three fields do not show any data at all for some reason. If I connect directly to the first recordset it works fine, but then SQL throws the error message: Multi-level GROUP BY cause not allowed in subquery. Is there any way to get around that message to link to it directly or does anyone have ANY clue why these fields are coming back blank? I am at wits end here!

Normally, I would do: var someClass1 = new SomeClass1(); How can I create this instance from the following: var className = "SomeClass1"; I am assuming I should use Type.GetType() or something but I can't figure it out.   • What does Rails script/server -d do differently that would cause a cells template to not be found

    I'm using cells. I used the generator to create a cell so the path to my template was automatically chosen to be app/cells/displayer/table.html.erb where displayer is the name of the cell and table is the name of the state. When I run script/server in the foreground, everything works perfectly. But when I run script/server -d, I get "Missing template displayer/table.erb in view path app/cells:app/cells/layouts". Even if I change table.html.erb to table.erb, I see the same message - the ActionView code is checking both but not finding either. Even if you're not familiar with cells, does anyone know what happens differently in daemon mode related to view paths? In this case, it appears that the plugin is not correctly registering the view path.

    I have a value in a properties file that I want to increment while the build is running. The goal is to copy a set of files and append a number to the front of each in order to maintain the order in which they were copied into the directory. I am using the <propertyfile> task as follows: <propertyfile file="jsfiles.properties"> <entry key="file.number" type="int" operation="=" value="10" /> <entry key="file.number" type="int" default="010" operation="+" value="10" pattern="000" /> </propertyfile> Then I do the copy: <copy todir="${js-in.dir}"> <resources> ... </resources> <chainedmapper> <flattenmapper /> <globmapper from="*.js" to="${file.number}-*.js"/> </chainedmapper> </copy> This does exactly what I need it to EXCEPT that instead of the following output: 010-file1.js 020-file2.js 030-file3.js ... I get: ${file.number}-file1.js ${file.number}-file2.js ${file.number}-file3.js ... What am I doing wrong?

  • Ruby get inheriting class

    I'm working on creating my first plugin for rails. I'm still pretty new to ruby and I was wondering if its possible to get the inheriting class? For example, I'm trying to create a plugin that will allow unit testing and functional testing when you are not using migrations. What I'm trying to do is initialize a class variable named controller to be initialized to the type of controller that is being tested. If I have a base class ControllerTest: class ControllerTest < Test::Unit::TestCase attr_accessor :controller def initialize super @controller = "call function that will find the inheriting classes name and create an instance of that controller type." end end So what I'm currently stuck on is getting the name of the inheriting class. Is this possible? And if not, does anyone know another way on how I could go about implementing this? Thanks in advance.

  • PHP + MYSQLI: Variable parameter/result binding with prepared statements.

    In a project that I'm about to wrap up, I've written and implemented an object-relational mapping solution for PHP. Before the doubters and dreamers cry out "how on earth?", relax -- I haven't found a way to make late static binding work -- I'm just working around it in the best way that I possibly can. Anyway, I'm not currently using prepared statements for querying, because I couldn't come up with a way to pass a variable number of arguments to the bind_params() or bind_result() methods. Why do I need to support a variable number of arguments, you ask? Because the superclass of my models (think of my solution as a hacked-up PHP ActiveRecord wannabe) is where the querying is defined, and so the find() method, for example, doesn't know how many parameters it would need to bind. Now, I've already thought of building an argument list and passing a string to eval(), but I don't like that solution very much -- I'd rather just implement my own security checks and pass on statements. Does anyone have any suggestions (or success stories) about how to get this done? If you can help me solve this first problem, perhaps we can tackle binding the result set (something I suspect will be more difficult, or at least more resource-intensive if it involves an initial query to determine table structure).

  • Classic ASP - How to convert string to UTF8 to USC2

    I have a problem where I am storing a UTF8 string in SQL Server as USC2, when I pull it out to display on a page with content-type set to UTF-8 it works fine. But I have a third party javascript component which when I pass it the string for the database it renders it as USC2. or not UTF8. Is there a way in ASP to convert this string to UTF-8 after reading it from the database to pass it to the third party component ( obfuscated ) . Hope this makes sense.

  • SQL - Two foreign keys that have a dependency between them

    The current structure is as follows: Table RowType: RowTypeID Table RowSubType: RowSubTypeID FK_RowTypeID Table ColumnDef: FK_RowTypeID FK_RowSubTypeID (nullable) In short, I'm mapping column definitions to rows. In some cases, those rows have subtype(s), which will have column definitions specific to them. Alternatively, I could hang those column definitions that are specific to subtypes off their own table, or I could combine the data in RowType and RowSubType into one table and work with a single ID, but I'm not sure either is a better solution (if anything, I'd lean towards the latter, as we mostly end up pulling ColumnDefs for a given RowType/RowSubType). Is the current design SQL Blasphemy? If I keep the current structuree, how do I maintain that if RowSubTypeID is specified in ColumnDef, that it must correspond to the RowType specified by RowTypeID? Should I try to enforce this with a trigger or am I missing a simple redesign that would solve the problem?

  • C++ smart pointer for non-object type?

    Hi, I'm trying to use smart pointers such as auto_ptr, shared_ptr. However, I don't know how to use it in this situation. CvMemStorage *storage = cvCreateMemStorage(); ... use the pointer ... cvReleaseMemStorage(&storage); I'm not sure, but I think that the storage variable is just malloc'ed memory, not object. Is there a way to use the smart pointers for the storage variable? Thank you.

  • Creating an application that can open files of a given format

    I've got an app, written in Obj-C. The info.plist has a list of file types that the app can open. I'm pretty sure that this is working because when I try to drag a file of an unacceptable type, the app doesn't highlight, but when I drag a file of an acceptable type, it does highlight, and lets me drop. When I drop, the app starts up, correctly, however, then I get a dialog saying: The document "foo.tiff" could not be opened. DocView cannot open files in the "TIFF File" format.
