• SQL Split function.

- by Wardy
Hi guys, I'm looking for a way to do this ... SELECT FirstName, LastName, Split(AddressBlock, ' ', 1), Split(AddressBlock, ' ', 2), PostCode FROM Contacts The arguments I want to pass are ... The address The separator (current situation requires 2 spaces but this might be a comma or a space followed by a comma) or something else (it varies). The address part I want to return (i don't always need all parts of the split result). I seem to be able to find a few examples of splitting functions about the internet but they return a table containing the entire set of split parts. My SQL skills aren't that great so I need the answer to be ultra simple. I'm always working with nvarchar data and the function needs to be reusable.

• Building a Hashtag in Javascript without matching Anchor Names, BBCode or Escaped Characters

- by Martindale
I would like to convert any instances of a hashtag in a String into a linked URL: #hashtag - should have "#hashtag" linked. This is a #hashtag - should have "#hashtag" linked. This is a [url=http://www.mysite.com/#name]named anchor[/url] - should not be linked. This isn't a pretty way to use quotes - should not be linked. Here is my current code: String.prototype.parseHashtag = function() { return this.replace(/[^&][#]+[A-Za-z0-9-_]+(?!])/, function(t) { var tag = t.replace("#","") return t.link("http://www.mysite.com/tag/"+tag); }); }; Currently, this appears to fix escaped characters (by excluding matches with the amperstand), handles named anchors, but it doesn't link the #hashtag if it's the first thing in the message, and it seems to grab include the 1-2 characters prior to the "#" in the link. Halp!

• Scaffolding Web Services in Grails

- by Dan
I need to implement a web app, but instead of using relational database I need to use different SOAP Web Services as a back-end. An important part of application only calls web services and displays the result. Since Web Services are clearly defined in form of Operation: In parameters and Return Type it seems to me that basic GUI could be easily constructed just like in the case of scaffolding based on Domain Entities. For example in case of SearchProducts web service operation I need to enter search parameters as input, so the search page can be constructed. Operation will return a list of products, so I need a page that will display this list in some kind of table. Is there already some library in grails that let you achieve this. If not, how would you go about creating one?

• Bind multiple request parameters to one object in Spring 3

- by Max
Hi, I can't figure out a way to bind several arguments and headers to one request parameter using annotations in Spring 3. For example, let's say I'm getting this request: Headers: Content-type: text/plain; POST Body: Name: Max Now I want it all to mysteriously bind to this object: class NameInfo { String name; } Using some code like this: String getName() { if ("text/plain".equals(headers.get("content-type"))) { return body.get("name"); } else if ("xml".equals(headers.get("content-type")) { return parseXml(body).get("name"); } else ... } So that in the end I would be able to use: @RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod.POST) void processName(@RequestAttribute NameInfo name) { ... } Is there a way to achieve something similar to what I need? Thanks in advance.

• error C2065: 'CComQIPtr' : undeclared identifier

- by Ken Smith
I'm still feeling my way around C++, and am a complete ATL newbie, so I apologize if this is a basic question. I'm starting with an existing VC++ executable project that has functionality I'd like to expose as an ActiveX object (while sharing as much of the source as possible between the two projects). I've approached this by adding an ATL project to the solution in question, and in that project have referenced all the .h and .cpp files from the executable project, added all the appropriate references, and defined all the preprocessor macros. So far so good. But I'm getting a compiler error in one file (HideDesktop.cpp). The relevant parts look like this: #include "stdafx.h" #define WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN #include <Windows.h> #include <WinInet.h> // Shell object uses INTERNET_MAX_URL_LENGTH (go figure) #if _MSC_VER < 1400 #define _WIN32_IE 0x0400 #endif #include <atlbase.h> // ATL smart pointers #include <shlguid.h> // shell GUIDs #include <shlobj.h> // IActiveDesktop #include "stdhdrs.h" struct __declspec(uuid("F490EB00-1240-11D1-9888-006097DEACF9")) IActiveDesktop; #define PACKVERSION(major, minor) MAKELONG(minor, major) static HRESULT EnableActiveDesktop(bool enable) { CoInitialize(NULL); HRESULT hr; CComQIPtr<IActiveDesktop, &IID_IActiveDesktop> pIActiveDesktop; // <- Problematic line (throws errors 2065 and 2275) hr = pIActiveDesktop.CoCreateInstance(CLSID_ActiveDesktop, NULL, CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER); if (!SUCCEEDED(hr)) { return hr; } COMPONENTSOPT opt; opt.dwSize = sizeof(opt); opt.fActiveDesktop = opt.fEnableComponents = enable; hr = pIActiveDesktop->SetDesktopItemOptions(&opt, 0); if (!SUCCEEDED(hr)) { CoUninitialize(); // pIActiveDesktop->Release(); return hr; } hr = pIActiveDesktop->ApplyChanges(AD_APPLY_REFRESH); CoUninitialize(); // pIActiveDesktop->Release(); return hr; } This code is throwing the following compiler errors: error C2065: 'CComQIPtr' : undeclared identifier error C2275: 'IActiveDesktop' : illegal use of this type as an expression error C2065: 'pIActiveDesktop' : undeclared identifier The two weird bits: (1) CComQIPtr is defined in atlcomcli.h, which is included in atlbase.h, which is included in HideDesktop.cpp; and (2) this file is only throwing these errors when it's referenced in my new ATL/AX project: it's not throwing them in the original executable project, even though they have basically the same preprocessor definitions. (The ATL AX project, naturally enough, defines _ATL_DLL, but I can't see where that would make a difference.) My current workaround is to use a normal "dumb" pointer, like so: IActiveDesktop *pIActiveDesktop; HRESULT hr = ::CoCreateInstance(CLSID_ActiveDesktop, NULL, // no outer unknown CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER, IID_IActiveDesktop, (void**)&pIActiveDesktop); And that works, provided I remember to release it. But I'd rather be using the ATL smart stuff. Any thoughts?

• do I need to use partial?

- by wiso
I've a general function, for example (only a simplified example): def do_operation(operation, a, b, name): print name do_something_more(a,b,name, operation(a,b)) def operation_x(a,b): return a**2 + b def operation_y(a,b): return a**10 - b/2. and some data: data = {"first": {"name": "first summation", "a": 10, "b": 20, "operation": operation_x}, "second": {"name": "second summation", "a": 20, "b": 50, "operation": operation_y}, "third": {"name": "third summation", "a": 20, "b": 50, "operation": operation_x}, # <-- operation_x again } now I can do: what_to_do = ("first", "third") # this comes from command line for sum_id in what_to_do: do_operation(data["operation"], data["a"], data["b"], data["name"]) or maybe it's better if I use functools.partial? from functools import partial do_operation_one = do_operation(name=data["first"]["name"], operation=data["first"]["operation"], a=data["first"]["a"], b=data["first"]["b"]) do_operation_two = do_operation(name=data["second"]["name"], operation=data["second"]["operation"] a=data["second"]["a"], b=data["second"]["b"]) do_operation_three = do_operation(name=data["third"]["name"], operation=data["third"]["operation"] a=data["third"]["a"], b=data["third"]["b"]) do_dictionary = { "first": do_operation_one, "second": do_operation_two, "third": do_operation_three } for what in what_to_do: do_dictionary[what]()

• Hash 32bit int to 16bit int?

- by dkamins
What are some simple ways to hash a 32-bit integer (e.g. IP address, e.g. Unix time_t, etc.) down to a 16-bit integer? E.g. hash_32b_to_16b(0x12345678) might return 0xABCD. Let's start with this as a horrible but functional example solution: function hash_32b_to_16b(val32b) { return val32b % 0xffff; } Question is specifically about JavaScript, but feel free to add any language-neutral solutions, preferably without using library functions. Simple = good. Wacky+obfuscated = amusing.

• PHP: How to check if query string or POST vars contain same var twice

- by thomasrutter
It may sound strange, but in my PHP application I need to check if the same variable name has been declared more than once in the query string or POST variables, and return an error value if this is the case. If my application doesn't return an error in this case, it fails a compliance check. When accessing vars using $_GET, $_POST, etc, PHP only returns the last value given for each variable name. I can't find a way to tell if any variable appeared more than once. I simply need to find out if the query string or the variables in the POST body contained the same variable name more than once, whatever the values.

• UITableViewCell is 1px shorter in didSelectRowAtIndexPath than cellForRowAtIndexPath

- by Calvin L
I have a UITableViewCell that I create in tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:. In that method I call: UITableViewCell *cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:nil] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Cell height: %f", cell.contentView.frame.size.height); This gives me a return value of 44.000000. Then in my tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: method, I call: UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath: indexPath]; NSLog(@"Cell height: %f", cell.contentView.frame.size.height); And this gives me a return value of 43.000000. Aren't they the same cell? What gives?

• NHibernate - Mapping tagging of entities

- by ZNS
Hi! I've been wrecking my mind on how to get my tagging of entities to work. I'll get right into some database structuring: tblTag TagId - int32 - PK Name tblTagEntity TagId - PK EntityId - PK EntityType - string - PK tblImage ImageId - int32 - PK tblBlog BlogId - int32 - PK class Image Id EntityType { get { return "MyNamespace.Entities.Image"; } IList Tags; class Blog Id EntityType { get { return "MyNamespace.Entities.Blog"; } IList Tags; The obvious problem I have here is that EntityType is an identifer but doesn't exist in the database. If anyone could help with the this mapping I'd be very grateful.

• Problem updating blog with hibernate?

- by johnsmith51
hi, i am having problem updating a blob with hibernate. my model have these getters/setters for hibernate, i.e. internally i deal with byte[] so any getter/setter convert the byte[] to blog. I can create an initial object without problem, but if I try to change the content of the blob, the database column is not updated. I do not get any error message, everything looks fine, except that the database is not updated. /** do not use, for hibernate only */ public Blob getLogoBinaryBlob() { if(logoBinary == null){ return null; } return Hibernate.createBlob(logoBinary); } /** do not use, for hibernate only */ public void setLogoBinaryBlob(Blob logoBinaryBlob) { ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); try { logoBinary = toByteArrayImpl(logoBinaryBlob, baos); } catch (Exception e) { } }

• Is it possible to create a new T-SQL Operator using CLR Code in MSSQL?

- by Eoin Campbell
I have a very simple CLR Function for doing Regex Matching public static SqlBoolean RegExMatch(SqlString input, SqlString pattern) { if (input.IsNull || pattern.IsNull) return SqlBoolean.False; return Regex.IsMatch(input.Value, pattern.Value, RegexOptions.IgnoreCase); } It allows me to write a SQL Statement Like. SELECT * FROM dbo.table1 WHERE dbo.RegexMatch(column1, '[0-9][A-Z]') = 1 -- match entries in col1 like 1A, 2B etc... I'm just thinking it would be nice to reformulate that query so it could be called like SELECT * FROM dbo.table1 WHERE column1 REGEXLIKE '[0-9][A-Z]' Is it possible to create new comparison operators using CLR Code. (I'm guessing from my brief glance around the web that the answer is NO, but no harm asking) Thanks, Eoin C

• C++: building iterator from bits

- by gruszczy
I have a bitmap and would like to return an iterator of positions of set bits. Right now I just walk the whole bitmap and if bit is set, then I provide next position. I believe this could be done more effectively: for example build statically array for each combination of bits in single byte and return vector of positions. This can't be done for a whole int, because array would be too big. But maybe there are some better solutions? Do you know any smart algorithms for this?

• Regex-expression with danish characters

I'm currently trying to wrap my head around regex, I have a validation snippet that tests an input box against a regex-expression: $.validator.addMethod("customerName", function(value, element){ return (/^[a-zA-Z]*$/).test(value); }, "Some text"); That works well, but when I try to add a space and some special danish characters, it doesn't filter the danish characters, only the space. $.validator.addMethod("customerName", function(value, element){ return (/^[a-zA-Z æøåÆØÅ]*$/).test(value); }, "Some text"); Any ideas to what could be wrong?

• Extending Object in Javasript

I'm trying to extend Object functionality this way: Object.prototype.get_type = function() { if(this.constructor) { var r = /\W*function\s+([\w\$]+)\(/; var match = r.exec(this.constructor.toString()); return match ? match[1].toLowerCase() : undefined; } else { return typeof this; } } It's great, but there is a problem: var foo = { 'bar' : 'eggs' }; for(var key in foo) { alert(key); } There'll be 3 passages of cycle. Is there any way to avoid this?

• only 1 record is being inserted

- by bobobobo
I'm running an insert statement using OLE DB and an ICommandWithParameters. In the ICommandText, I made sure to set: params.cParamSets = n ; Then cmdTxt-Execute( NULL, IID_NULL, ¶ms, &rowsAffected, NULL ) ; Where n 1, but in my database, all I see is 1 insert happening. The docs say cParamSets is greater than one) can be specified only if DBPROP_MULTIPLEPARAMSETS is VARIANT_TRUE and the command does not return any rowsets. But I set DBPROP_MULTIPLEPARAMSETS in my DBPROPs, and its and INSERT statement so it should not return any rowsets.

• Use LINQ and lambdas to put string in proper case

- by Tobias Funke
I have this function called ProperCase that takes a string, then converts the first letter in each word to uppercase. So ProperCase("john smith") will return "John Smith". Here is the code: public string ProperCase(string input) { var retVal = string.Empty; var words = input.Split(' '); foreach (var word in words) { if (word.Length == 1) { retVal += word.ToUpper(); } else if (word.Length > 1) { retVal += word.Substring(0, 1).ToUpper() + word.Substring(1).ToLower(); } retVal += ' '; } if (retVal.Length > 0) { retVal = retVal.Substring(0, retVal.Length - 1); } return retVal; } This code workds perfectly, but I'm pretty sure I can do it more elegantly with LINQ and lambdas. Can some please show me how?

• JPA One To Many Relationship Persistence Bug

- by Brian
Hey folks, I've got a really weird problem with a bi-directional relationship in jpa (hibernate implementation). A User is based in one Region, and a Region can contain many Users. So...relationship is as follows: Region object: @OneToMany(mappedBy = "region", fetch = FetchType.LAZY, cascade = CascadeType.ALL) public Set<User> getUsers() { return users; } public void setUsers(Set<User> users) { this.users = users; } User object: @ManyToOne(cascade = {CascadeType.PERSIST, CascadeType.MERGE}, fetch = FetchType.EAGER) @JoinColumn(name = "region_fk") public Region getRegion() { return region; } public void setRegion(Region region) { this.region = region; } So, the relationship as you can see above is Lazy on the region side, ie, I don't want the region to eager load all the users. Therefore, I have the following code within my DAO layer to add a user to an existing user to an existing region object... public User setRegionForUser(String username, Long regionId){ Region r = (Region) this.get(Region.class, regionId); User u = (User) this.get(User.class, username); u.setRegion(r); Set<User> users = r.getUsers(); users.add(u); System.out.println("The number of users in the set is: "+users.size()); r.setUsers(users); this.update(r); return (User)this.update(u); } The problem is, when I run a little unit test to add 5 users to my region object, I see that the region.getUsers() set always stays stuck at 1 object...somehow the set isn't getting added to. My unit test code is as follows: public void setUp(){ System.out.println("calling setup method"); Region r = (Region)ManagerFactory.getCountryAndRegionManager().get(Region.class, Long.valueOf("2")); for(int i = 0; i<loop; i++){ User u = new User(); u.setUsername("username_"+i); ManagerFactory.getUserManager().update(u); ManagerFactory.getUserManager().setRegionForUser("username_"+i, Long.valueOf("2")); } } public void tearDown(){ System.out.println("calling teardown method"); for(int i = 0; i<loop; i++){ ManagerFactory.getUserManager().deleteUser("username_"+i); } } public void testGetUsersForRegion(){ Set<User> totalUsers = ManagerFactory.getCountryAndRegionManager().getUsersInRegion(Long.valueOf("2")); System.out.println("Expecting 5, got: "+totalUsers.size()); this.assertEquals(5, totalUsers.size()); } So the test keeps failing saying there is only 1 user instead of the expected 5. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? thanks very much, Brian
