  • Quicksort causes stackoverflow...

    - by Tony
    I have the following code, (taken from here), but it causes a stackoverflow exception when there's two the same value's in the list to sort. Can someone help me what's causing this? public static IEnumerable<int> QSLinq(IEnumerable<int> _items) { if (_items.Count() <= 1) return _items; var _pivot = _items.First(); var _less = from _item in _items where _item < _pivot select _item; var _same = from _item in _items where _item == _pivot select _item; var _greater = from _item in _items where _item > _pivot select _item; return QSLinq(_less).Concat(QSLinq(_same)).Concat(QSLinq(_greater)); }

  • LIKE query for DateTime in NHibernate

    - by Anry
    For a column of type varchar I could write such a query: public IList<Order> GetByName(string orderName) { using (ISession session = NHibernateHelper.OpenSession()) { return session.CreateCriteria<Order>(). Add(Restrictions.Like("Name", string.Format("%{0}%", orderName))). List<Order>(); } } How do I write a similar LIKE-query for a column that has type datetime? public IList<Order> GetByDateTime(DateTime dateTime) { using (ISession session = NHibernateHelper.OpenSession()) { return //LIKE-query } } That is, if the method is passed the date and part-time (eg "25.03.2010 19"), then displays all orders are carried out in this period of time.

  • How do I call overloaded Java methods in Clojure.

    - by Pat Wallace
    For this example Java class: package foo; public class TestInterop { public String test(int i) { return "Test(int)"; } public String test(Object i) { return "Test(Object)"; } } When I start Clojure and try to call the test(int) method, the test(Object) method is called instead, because Clojure automatically boxes the integer into a java.lang.Integer object. How do I force Clojure to call the test(int) method? user=> (.test (new foo.TestInterop) 10) "Test(Object)" I want to call methods like Component.add(Component comp, int index) in AWT, but instead keep calling add(Component comp, Object constraints), so the buttons on my toolbar always appear in the wrong order.

  • Mass Ball-to-Ball Collision Handling (as in, lots of balls)

    - by BlueThen
    Update: Found out that I was using the radius as the diameter, which was why the mtd was overcompensating. Hi, StackOverflow. I've written a Processing program awhile back simulating ball physics. Basically, I have a large number of balls (1000), with gravity turned on. Detection works great, but my issue is that they start acting weird when they're bouncing against other balls in all directions. I'm pretty confident this involves the handling. For the most part, I'm using Jay Conrod's code. One part that's different is if (distance > 1.0) return; which I've changed to if (distance < 1.0) return; because the collision wasn't even being performed with the first bit of code, I'm guessing that's a typo. The balls overlap when I use his code, which isn't what I was looking for. My attempt to fix it was to move the balls to the edge of each other: float angle = atan2(y - collider.y, x - collider.x); float distance = dist(x,y, balls[ID2].x,balls[ID2].y); x = collider.x + radius * cos(angle); y = collider.y + radius * sin(angle); This isn't correct, I'm pretty sure of that. I tried the correction algorithm in the previous ball-to-ball topic: // get the mtd Vector2d delta = (position.subtract(ball.position)); float d = delta.getLength(); // minimum translation distance to push balls apart after intersecting Vector2d mtd = delta.multiply(((getRadius() + ball.getRadius())-d)/d); // resolve intersection -- // inverse mass quantities float im1 = 1 / getMass(); float im2 = 1 / ball.getMass(); // push-pull them apart based off their mass position = position.add(mtd.multiply(im1 / (im1 + im2))); ball.position = ball.position.subtract(mtd.multiply(im2 / (im1 + im2))); except my version doesn't use vectors, and every ball's weight is 1. The resulting code I get is this: PVector delta = new PVector(collider.x - x, collider.y - y); float d = delta.mag(); PVector mtd = new PVector(delta.x * ((radius + collider.radius - d) / d), delta.y * ((radius + collider.radius - d) / d)); // push-pull apart based on mass x -= mtd.x * 0.5; y -= mtd.y * 0.5; collider.x += mtd.x * 0.5; collider.y += mtd.y * 0.5; This code seems to over-correct collisions. Which doesn't make sense to me because in no other way do I modify the x and y values of each ball, other than this. Some other part of my code could be wrong, but I don't know. Here's the snippet of the entire ball-to-ball collision handling I'm using: if (alreadyCollided.contains(new Integer(ID2))) // if the ball has already collided with this, then we don't need to reperform the collision algorithm return; Ball collider = (Ball) objects.get(ID2); PVector collision = new PVector(x - collider.x, y - collider.y); float distance = collision.mag(); if (distance == 0) { collision = new PVector(1,0); distance = 1; } if (distance < 1) return; PVector velocity = new PVector(vx,vy); PVector velocity2 = new PVector(collider.vx, collider.vy); collision.div(distance); // normalize the distance float aci = velocity.dot(collision); float bci = velocity2.dot(collision); float acf = bci; float bcf = aci; vx += (acf - aci) * collision.x; vy += (acf - aci) * collision.y; collider.vx += (bcf - bci) * collision.x; collider.vy += (bcf - bci) * collision.y; alreadyCollided.add(new Integer(ID2)); collider.alreadyCollided.add(new Integer(ID)); PVector delta = new PVector(collider.x - x, collider.y - y); float d = delta.mag(); PVector mtd = new PVector(delta.x * ((radius + collider.radius - d) / d), delta.y * ((radius + collider.radius - d) / d)); // push-pull apart based on mass x -= mtd.x * 0.2; y -= mtd.y * 0.2; collider.x += mtd.x * 0.2; collider.y += mtd.y * 0.2; Thanks. (Apologies for lack of sources, stackoverflow thinks I'm a spammer)

  • Is the Contains Method in java.lang.String Case-sensitive?

    - by Kamikaze Mercenary
    Say I have 2 strings, String s1 = "AbBaCca"; String s2 = "bac"; I want to preform a check returning that s2 is contained within s1. I can do this with: return s1.contains(s2); I am pretty sure that contains() is case sensitive, however I can't determine this for sure from reading the documentation. If it is then I suppose my best method would be something like: return s1.toLowerCase().contains(s2.toLowerCase()); All this aside, does anyone know of another (possibly better) way to accomplish this without caring about case-sensitivity?

  • Lack of IsNumeric function in C#

    - by Michael Kniskern
    One thing that has bothered me about C# since its release was the lack of a generic IsNumeric function. I know it is difficult to generate a one-stop solution to detrmine if a value is numeric. I have used the following solution in the past, but it is not the best practice because I am generating an exception to determine if the value is IsNumeric: public bool IsNumeric(string input) { try { int.Parse(input); return true; } catch { return false; } } Is this still the best way to approach this problem or is there a more efficient way to determine if a value is numeric in C#?

  • Is this an idiomatic way to pass mocks into objects?

    - by Billy ONeal
    I'm a bit confused about passing in this mock class into an implementation class. It feels wrong to have all this explicitly managed memory flying around. I'd just pass the class by value but that runs into the slicing problem. Am I missing something here? Implementation: namespace detail { struct FileApi { virtual HANDLE CreateFileW( __in LPCWSTR lpFileName, __in DWORD dwDesiredAccess, __in DWORD dwShareMode, __in_opt LPSECURITY_ATTRIBUTES lpSecurityAttributes, __in DWORD dwCreationDisposition, __in DWORD dwFlagsAndAttributes, __in_opt HANDLE hTemplateFile ) { return ::CreateFileW(lpFileName, dwDesiredAccess, dwShareMode, lpSecurityAttributes, dwCreationDisposition, dwFlagsAndAttributes, hTemplateFile); } virtual void CloseHandle(HANDLE handleToClose) { ::CloseHandle(handleToClose); } }; } class File : boost::noncopyable { HANDLE hWin32; boost::scoped_ptr<detail::FileApi> fileApi; public: File( __in LPCWSTR lpFileName, __in DWORD dwDesiredAccess, __in DWORD dwShareMode, __in_opt LPSECURITY_ATTRIBUTES lpSecurityAttributes, __in DWORD dwCreationDisposition, __in DWORD dwFlagsAndAttributes, __in_opt HANDLE hTemplateFile, __in detail::FileApi * method = new detail::FileApi() ) { fileApi.reset(method); hWin32 = fileApi->CreateFileW(lpFileName, dwDesiredAccess, dwShareMode, lpSecurityAttributes, dwCreationDisposition, dwFlagsAndAttributes, hTemplateFile); } }; namespace detail { struct FileApi { virtual HANDLE CreateFileW( __in LPCWSTR lpFileName, __in DWORD dwDesiredAccess, __in DWORD dwShareMode, __in_opt LPSECURITY_ATTRIBUTES lpSecurityAttributes, __in DWORD dwCreationDisposition, __in DWORD dwFlagsAndAttributes, __in_opt HANDLE hTemplateFile ) { return ::CreateFileW(lpFileName, dwDesiredAccess, dwShareMode, lpSecurityAttributes, dwCreationDisposition, dwFlagsAndAttributes, hTemplateFile); } virtual void CloseHandle(HANDLE handleToClose) { ::CloseHandle(handleToClose); } }; } class File : boost::noncopyable { HANDLE hWin32; boost::scoped_ptr<detail::FileApi> fileApi; public: File( __in LPCWSTR lpFileName, __in DWORD dwDesiredAccess, __in DWORD dwShareMode, __in_opt LPSECURITY_ATTRIBUTES lpSecurityAttributes, __in DWORD dwCreationDisposition, __in DWORD dwFlagsAndAttributes, __in_opt HANDLE hTemplateFile, __in detail::FileApi * method = new detail::FileApi() ) { fileApi.reset(method); hWin32 = fileApi->CreateFileW(lpFileName, dwDesiredAccess, dwShareMode, lpSecurityAttributes, dwCreationDisposition, dwFlagsAndAttributes, hTemplateFile); } ~File() { fileApi->CloseHandle(hWin32); } }; Tests: namespace detail { struct MockFileApi : public FileApi { MOCK_METHOD7(CreateFileW, HANDLE(LPCWSTR, DWORD, DWORD, LPSECURITY_ATTRIBUTES, DWORD, DWORD, HANDLE)); MOCK_METHOD1(CloseHandle, void(HANDLE)); }; } using namespace detail; using namespace testing; TEST(Test_File, OpenPassesArguments) { MockFileApi * api = new MockFileApi; EXPECT_CALL(*api, CreateFileW(Eq(L"BozoFile"), Eq(56), Eq(72), Eq(reinterpret_cast<LPSECURITY_ATTRIBUTES>(67)), Eq(98), Eq(102), Eq(reinterpret_cast<HANDLE>(98)))) .Times(1).WillOnce(Return(reinterpret_cast<HANDLE>(42))); File test(L"BozoFile", 56, 72, reinterpret_cast<LPSECURITY_ATTRIBUTES>(67), 98, 102, reinterpret_cast<HANDLE>(98), api); }

  • iPhone SDK - CGBitmapContextCreate

    - by nax_
    Hi, I would like to create an image of my own. I already know its width (320*2 = 640) and height (427). So I have some raw data : unsigned char *rawImg = malloc(height * width * 4 *2 ); Then, I will fill it :) Then, I have to do something like that to get a bitmap and return a (UIImage *) : ctx = CGBitmapContextCreate(rawImg,width*2,height,8, ???, ???, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast); UIImage * imgFinal = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:CGBitmapContextCreateImage(ctx)]; CGContextRelease(ctx); return imgFinal; But I don't know how to create my context ctx, as you can see with the "???", even tough I read the documentation... Please help ! Thanks :)

  • Android Class which extends Dialog, how to clear TextViews before it is displayed

    - by wuntee
    I have a class that extends android.app.Dialog, the layout is done in an xml file, and the setup (button listeners, etc) is done on the onCreate method. My problem is that whenever the dialog is displayed, then dismissed, and displayed again, the Editable TextViews are still populated with the information that was displayed previously. What is the common way to clear these text fields? Remember - this is a separate class that extends Dialog - so there is no 'onDialogCreate' like Activity has. Or, perhaps I am extending the wrong class? There is just a lot of processing being done, and do not want to have all the code in the main Activity. I would like it to be in a separate Class. I tried to extend AlertDialog, but it does not create the border like Dialog does. Any help would be great. The dialog is shown via the Activity: protected Dialog onCreateDialog(int id) { switch(id){ case DIALOG_NEW_SAFE: return(new NewSafeDialog(this)); default: return(null); } }

  • What is the purpose of return'ing $this when setting vars in the model

    I am a self thought hobby programmer and therefore don't have the fundamentals always down the way you professionals do. So please excuse me if this is basic. What is the purpose or benefit of return'ing $this when setting vars in the model. I have seen this done in other places too but cant figure this out. Sample code: public function setAlias($Alias){ $this->_Alias = (string) $Alias; return $this; } public function getAlias(){ return $this->_Alias; }

  • Respect regular onsubmit handlers from jQuery.submit

    - by orip

I'm trying to detect the previous handler's return value but can't seem to do it: <form><input type="submit" /></form> <script type="text/javascript"> $('form')[0].onsubmit = function() { return false; }; // called first $('form').submit(function(e) { console.log(e.result); // undefined console.log(e.isDefaultPrevented()); // false console.log(e.isPropagationStopped()); // false console.log(e.isImmediatePropagationStopped()); // false }); </script> Is there a way to do this?

  • In OpenRasta is it possible to Pattern match multiple key/value pairs?

    - by Scott Littlewood
    Is it possible in OpenRasta to have a Uri pattern that allows for an array of values of the same key to be submitted and mapped to a handler method accepting an array of the query parameters. Example: Return all the contacts named Dave Smith from a collection. HTTP GET /contacts?filterBy=first&filterValue=Dave&filterBy=last&filterValue=Smith With a configuration of: What syntax would be best for the Uri string pattern matching? (Suggestions welcome) ResourceSpace.Has.ResourcesOfType<List<ContactResource>>() .AtUri("/contacts") .And.AtUri("/contacts?filterBy[]={filterBy}[]&filterValue[]={fv}[]") // Option 1 .And.AtUri("/contacts?filterBy={filterBy}[]&fv={fv}[]") // Option 2 Would map to a Handler method of: public object Get(params Filter[] filters) { /* create a Linq Expression based on the filters using dynamic linq query the repository using the Linq */ return Query.All<Contact>().Where(c => c.First == "Dave" && c.Last == "Smith").ToResource() } where Filter is defined by public class Filter { public string FilterBy { get; set; } public string FilterValue { get; set; } }

  • Optimizing a Soundex Query for finding similar names

    - by xkingpin
    My application will offer a list of suggestions for English names that "sound like" a given typed name. The query will need to be optimized and return results as quick as possible. Which option would be most optimal for returning results quickly. (Or your own suggestion if you have one) A. Generate the Soundex Hash and store it in the "Names" table then do something like the following: (This saves generating the soundex hash for at least every row in my db per query right?) select name from names where NameSoundex = Soundex('Ann') B. Use the Difference function (This must generate the soundex for every name in the table?) select name from names where Difference(name, 'Ann') = 3 C. Simple comparison select name from names where Soundex(name) = Soundex('Ann') Option A seems like to me it would be the fastest to return results because it only generates the Soundex for one string then compares to an indexed column "NameSoundex" Option B should give more results than option A because the name does not have to be an exact match of the soundex, but could be slower Assuming my table could contain millions of rows, what would yield the best results?

  • Is it better to use List or Collection?

    - by Vivin Paliath
    I have an object that stores some data in a list. The implementation could change later, and I don't want to expose the internal implementation to the end user. However, the user must have the ability to modify and access this collection of data. Currently I have something like this: public List<SomeDataType> getData() { return this.data; } public void setData(List<SomeDataType> data) { this.data = data; } Does this mean that I have allowed the internal implementation details to leak out? Should I be doing this instead? public Collection<SomeDataType> getData() { return this.data; } public void setData(Collection<SomeDataType> data) { this.data = new ArrayList<SomeDataType>(data); }

  • Adding a custom control to a page, then adding multiple custom children into that one, null user con

    - by Rickjaah
    Hello all, While nerding my way through the day again. I came across a problem concerning adding children to an already add child control. I can add the controls, but when trying to use the controls in the added control, they all return null. This is the method: protected override CreateChildControls(EventArgs e) { UserControl uControl = LoadControl("~/controls/TwoColumn.ascx"); PlaceHolder holder = uControl.Controls.FindControl(phrContentMiddle) as PlaceHolder; holder.Controls.Add(LoadControl("~/controls/ImageShowControl"); } When i try to call any type of button/UserControl inside the ImageShowControl.... All return null. Is this something in the Page LifeCycle? If so, what is the way to go to realize this?

  • SYN flooding still a threat to servers?

    - by Rob
    Well recently I've been reading about different Denial of Service methods. One method that kind of stuck out was SYN flooding. I'm a member of some not-so-nice forums, and someone was selling a python script that would DoS a server using SYN packets with a spoofed IP address. However, if you sent a SYN packet to a server, with a spoofed IP address, the target server would return the SYN/ACK packet to the host that was spoofed. In which case, wouldn't the spoofed host return an RST packet, thus negating the 75 second long-wait, and ultimately failing in its attempt to DoS the server?

  • Objective C - Constants with behaviour

    - by Akshay
    Hi, I'm new to Objective C. I am trying to define Constants which have behavior associated with them. So far I have done - @interface Direction : NSObject { NSString *displayName; } -(id)initWithDisplayName:(NSString *)aName; -(id)left; // returns West when North -(id)right; // return East when North @end @implementation Direction -(id)initWithDisplayName:(NSString *)aName { if(self = [super init]) { displayName = aName; } return self; } -(id)left {}; -(id)right {}; @end Direction* North = [Direction initWithDisplayName:@"North"]; // error - initializer element is not constant. This approach results in the indicated error. Is there a better way of doing this in Objective C.

    Generally, I am bulding dynamic SQL statement that is executing using sp_executsql like this: EXEC sp_executesql @TempSQLStatement I need to insert the return result row set in something (table variable or temporary table), but I am getting the following error: Msg 208, Level 16, State 0, Line 1746 Invalid object name '#TempTable'. after executing this: INSERT INTO #TempTable EXEC sp_executesql @TempSQLStatement From what I have read, I believe the issue is caused because I am not specifying the columns of the temporary table, but I am not able to do this because the return columns count varies. I have read that I can use global temporary tables, but I have done this before and wonder is there an other way to do that.
