• Is there any way that an export-to-Excel function can be scalable?

  Summary: ASP.Net website with a couple hundred users. Data is exported to Excel files which can be relatively large (~5 MB). In the pilot phase (just a few users), we are already seeing occasional errors on the server in the exporting method. Is there any general way to export to Excel in a "light-weight" manner? Would simply streaming the data into a CSV file work for this?

• WPF ComboBox SelectedItem - change to previous value

  Hello, I have a ComboBox that has the SelectedItem bound to the ViewModel. <ComboBox SelectedItem="{Binding SelItem, Mode=TwoWay}" ItemsSource="{Binding MyItems}"> When the user selects a new Item in the View ComboBox, I want to display a prompt and verify that they want to make the change. In the SetItem Property setter in the View Model, I display a Dialog to confirm the selection. When they say yes, it works fine. My problem is, when the user clicks on "No" I am not sure who to get the ComboBox to revert back to the previous value. The Property in the ViewModel has the correct older value, however in the View the ComboBox displays the newly Selected Value. I want the user to select an item, confirm they want to go ahead with it, and if they decide not to, I want the ComboBox to revert back to the previous item. How can I accomplish this? Thanks!

• WCF Duplex Interaction with Web Server

  Here is my scenario, and it is causing us a considerable amount of grief at the moment: We have a vendor web service which provides base level telephony functionality. This service has a SOAP api, which we are leveraging to build up a custom UI that is integrated into our in house web apps. The api functions on 2 levels. You make standard client calls into the service to initiate actions, such as Login, Place Call, Hang Up, etc. On a different thread, the service sends events back to the client to alert the user of things that are occurring on the system (agent successfully logged in, call was disconnected, etc). I implemented a WCF service to sit between the web server and the vendor service. This WCF service operates in duplex mode, establishing a 2 way connection with the web server. The web server makes outbound calls to the WCF service, which routes them to the vendor's web service. Events are received back to the WCF service, which passes them onto the web server via a callback channel on the WCF client. As events are received on the web server, they are placed into a hash table with the user's name as the key, and a .NET queue as the value to hold the event. Each event is enqueued to the agent who owns it. On a 2 second interval, the web page polls the web server via an ajax request to get new events for the logged in user. It hits the hash table for the user key, dequeues any events that are present, and serializes them back up to the web page. From there, they are processed in order and appropriate messages are displayed to the user. This implementation performs well in a single user scenario. The second I put more than 1 user on the system, I start getting frequent timeouts with the following CommunicationException: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond We are running Windows Server 2008 R2 both servers. Both the web app and WCF service are running on .NET 3.5. The WCF service is running under the net.tcp protocol in duplex mode. The web app is ASP.NET MVC 2. Has anyone dealt with anything like this scenario? Is there a more efficient way (or a widely accepted pattern) to implement this?

  Not a Noob as yesterday, but still green. I have been playing around with the code that Elisabeth Robson has put together HERE. I have a UITabbarcontoller and a IUNavigationController they seem to work fine. I have a UITableviewController to which I loads my NSMutable array. The user clicks a cell and didSelectRowAtIndexPath xib is loaded onto the stack. I put a 'Learn More' button on the current xib(BookDetailView). I've tried a few approaches to load a newer xib when the 'Learn More' button is pressed but have failed. Ive Tried IBAction and Pushing the Newer xib to the top. Do I need to create another view controller? Thanks for looking.

• console windows not close after stopping program

  Hello, Visual Studio 2005 C++ Windows XP Pro I have a sample application that I am testing, that links with boost libraries. However, the program runs ok. However, when I try and stop the program by clicking the 'Stop Debugging' button. The program ends, but the console window remains open. So I have many of them, as during my testing I am starting and stopping the application. Even when I try and close it by clicking the close button it has no affect. And it doesn't seem to appear under task manager when the program ends. The only way I can close them if I reboot windows. I am thinking it might be a thread that has not closed, and maybe that is keeping the console windows open. Many thanks for any advice,

  Hey all Basically I want to replicate the page changing effect found here, at http://timvandamme.com/ But instead of using #values I want to use PHP includes, mainly because I want the site to be as uber-seo-friendly as possible... but still have this nice effect. So is there a way of doing this? I have a main index file which includes other php files in the centre using the usual 'GET' method, so my pages look like: "index.php?page=about" In my jQuery code I want to have a declaration where if I click the navigation, the content scrolls up, then once the relevant PHP file has loaded, have the content scroll back down and show the new page content (whilst also of navigated to the new page in the address bar, so if the user clicks the back button in their browser, they return to the previous page). I know how to code the scrolling bits, it's just literally the ajax loading includes / page navigation parts I'm struggling to work out :\ Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!! Thanks in advance.   Hi i am using vb.net and the .net membership provider. i want to bring back a gridview with user account information, like GetAllUsers() does. However i want to only bring back users with certain profile information, that will be users whos profile information matches the selected value in a dropdownlist on the same page. I am using profile provider to record just one extra piece of user information. Can i change or override the GetAllUsers method for this? Adding an extra parameter so its GetAllUsers by Profile. Membership has a FindUsersByName method, i want to do something similar with users by Profile. I am very much a noob with .net programming so i hope i have explained this ok.

  I'm having difficulties in the making the logout code for php to work. When I click on the logout button, it will go back to the home page, but when I click on the back button in the browser. I can still access the previous page, wherein the user must be logged on to access it. So I'm thinking of redirecting to the login page when the user clicks on the back button on the browser. • Steaming a non-PCM WAV file to a SilverLight application

  Hi, I would like to allow users to play recorded WAV files that stored on a server back to a Silverlight application as a client to play them. I saw that there is a way to play a WAV file on Silverlight (here), but when i tried to impliment it, i got an error playing the file because it is not in PCM format but encoded. The files that i'm trying to play are encoded with a special encoder, so i thought that the only way is to decode the WAV file on the server and stream it back to the client. The limitation is that the decode process should occur in real time because it is not reasonable to convert all the WAV files that exists. Is it possible to do it? Which streamer can i use? (Windows Media Service can help here?) Does somebody has any experience with such a scenario? Appreciate your help.

• OOP: how much program logic should be encapsulated within related objects/classes as methods?

  I have a simple program which can have an admin user or just a normal user. The program also has two classes: for UserAccount and AdminAccount. The things an admin will need to do (use cases) include Add_Account, Remove_Account, and so on. My question is, should I try to encapsulate these use-cases into the objects? Only someone who is an Admin, logged in with an AdminAccount, should be able to add and remove other accounts. I could have a class-less Sub-procedure that adds new UserAccount objects to the system and is called when an admin presses the 'Add Account' button. Alternatively, I could place that procedure as a method inside the AdminAccount object, and have the button event execute some code like 'Admin.AddUser(name, password).' I'm more inclined to go with the first option, but I'm not sure how far this OO business is supposed to go.

• XPathNavigator in Silverlight

  I have a code library that makes heavy use of XPathNavigator to parse some specific xml document. The xml document is cross-referenced, meaning that an element can reference another which has not yet been encountered during parsing: <ElementA ...> <DependentElementX id="1234"> </ElementA> <ElementX id="1234" .../> The document doesn't really look like this, but the point is that 1) there is an xml schema that enforces the overall document structure, 2) elements inside the document can reference each other using some IDs, and 3) there is quite a few such cross references between different elements in the document. The document is parsed in two phases. In the first pass I walk through the document XPathDocument doc = ...; XPathNavigator nav = doc.CreateNavigator(); nav.MoveToRoot(); nav.MoveToFirstChild()... and occasionally 'bookmark' the current position (element) in the document using XPathNavigator.Clone() method. This gives me a lightweight instance of an XPathNavigator which I can store somewhere and use later to jump back to a particular place (element) in my document. Once I have enough information collected in the first pass (for example, I have made sure there is indeed an ElementX with an id='1234'), I jump back to saved bookmarks (using those saved XPathNavigators) and complete the parsing. Well, now I'm about to use this library in Silverlight 3.0 and to my horror the XPathNavigator is not in the System.Xml assembly. Questions: 1) Am I missing something obvious (i.e. XPathNavigator does exist in some shape or form, for example in a toolkit or a freeware library)? 2) If I do have to make modifications in the code, what would be the best way to go? Ideally, I would like to make minimal changes, not to rewrite 80% of the code just to be able to use something like XLinq. To resume, in case I have to give up XPathNavigator, all I need is a way to bookmark places in my document and to get back to them so that I can continue to iterate from where I left off. • Accessing and binding events to an ASP.NET Grid view using Jquery

  I have an ASP page which displays a text box when it loads. It takes an input number, send it to the server through post back, and then displays some record in a grid view. After a number is input into the box, the server fetches some data from a database and add records to the grid view. It also contains a link column, whose URL is set to "#", so that the page isn't redirected when it is clicked. Now I want to bind a jquery "click" event to that link. How can I do that ? I have tried that to do myself but failed, because it is not available when the DOM is loaded (since it only contains rows when a number is input through the box), and is being modified through ASP.NET Ajax post back.

  I going to use Google Checkout to process orders to purchase downloadable content. When the order process is completed via Google Checkout I'd like for the user to be able come back to my site, authenticate using their Google credentials (OpenID?) that they purchased the item with linked back end, and download the goods. The site is written using C# and ASP.NET MVC. Is this possible or how should I rethink this? Are there open-source libraries to get me started?

  Hi I load my self-made webuser controls dynamically. A user chooses a template and depending on that template I load some self-made webuser controls (.ascx) that are defined in a sql server database. When the user fills in the TextBoxes and clicks on the submit button, the entries in the TextBoxes should be saved in my database. The problem is that when clicking the submit button, the TextBox entries are erased. I searched a lot to fix this problem, for example I tried to load every control again every postback by putting the code in the Page_Init event but unfortunately it won't work.

• Drupal 6 - Including a module form in a view

  I'm making use of the Favorites module, in order to allow my users to favorite nodes they like. Currently, I know that there is a block available for listing out the favorites, along with the 'Add to favorites' button at the top of this list. What I'd like to do is generate the form which includes the button, and include it within each node that I generate. I'd gotten it hacked up and quickly working by copying the generated form and placing it in my views-view--fields-.tpl.php template, however I believe that doing it this way goes against the thought behind Drupal, and probably introduces security issues with the form_id and form_token being hand-written. I've attempted to call the get_form function, and have passed it the form_id that I found in the generated form code, however I can't get Drupal to recognize it. From some Googling I've noticed that generating module forms programmatically may require a hook, but I haven't been able to find any good examples of this. What is the best way to go about creating this form?

  Hello, all. I've got next problem: i've got 3 UIViewController and need to switch controllers by UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal. Next code working fine: testController.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; [self presentModalViewController:testController animated:YES]; where testController - next controller to switch, self - current controller. And when i've set 3rd controller - it's working fine, but i have problem with back to first controller - when i back to first controller - i can't go to second controller. 1 - 2 - 3 - 1 - it's working fine, but - 2 - don't show. what's mistake ?

• SQLServer Replication, dealing with updating data in a subscriber without merging with the publisher

  To simplify my problem, picture two databases, one is a publisher, one is a replicated subscriber. Most of the time, changes are configured in the publisher, and pushed to the subscriber once per day using transactional replication. (The subscriber is the main production database). However, on a rare occasion, we need to make a change directly to the subscriber database. This does not break replication, however to ensure consistency, we also want to replicate this single change back to the publisher database. My first thought was to make both databases publishers to each other, but that does not work. Merge replication also does not work as that merges the data together, and we really only want to push that single change from the subscriber back to the publisher. Is there some other replication scheme I can use here, or do I need to invent my own thing?

• Process touches behind the UINavigationBar

  In my application, I'm displaying a fullscreen image in a 320 x 480 frame. After I display the image, I fade the navigation bar out to allow the user to see the whole picture. When the user taps in the area where the navigation bar was, I would like to bring the navigation bar back. This is very similar to what happens in the iPhone Photos app. Unfortunately, after I've hidden the UINavigationBar, I can't process touches on the screen where the navigation bar once was. I believe this is because the origin of the parent view is right below the navigation bar: How can I process touches in this area to bring the nav bar back?

• How to Detect Right Click on the Taskbar

  I've got a Windows Forms application in C# that starts off with a loading dialog. As expected, a button for the app shows up in the Windows taskbar. I would like to detect right-clicks that might be done to that button. Ultimately, I hope to disable the right-click or simply have the loading dialog regain focus. I've seen that some people use custom libraries and packages (interop, for example) to achieve some Win32 functionality, but I'd personally like to avoid this. Is it impossible to do without such libraries/packages?
