• HTML5 video on iPad

  I have a dynamic video gallery and it works great on a computer. When moving to an iPad, the video starts loading and it shows the cannot play icon. Instead of this I'd rather the video not show until it's ready to play. I have tried to add events listeners for "canplaythrough" and "canplay" and when they occur for the video to fade in then play. • Is Lucern.net good choice for website search of 1M item product database? (giving up on SQL Server

  We currently have in production SQL Server 2005 and we use it's full text search for a eCommerce site search of a million product database. I've optimized it as much as possible (I think) and we're still seeing search times of five seconds. (We don't need site scrawl or PDF (etc.) document indexing features... JUST "Google" speed for site search.) I was going to buy dtSearch but now I realize I can just use Lucerne.net and save the $2,500 for two server license. I read on a post that Lucerne.Net is not good for website searches. Has anyone else used Lucerne.Net from ASP.Net? Does it take a lot of memory? Any problems? Any comments?

• How can i open Thickbox from a form and feed it with data ?

  I have a simple search php script, within that script there is some html and javascript to make a search input field and a button. What i am trying to do is when someone enters a search, and presses submit, thickbox opens, and the results will be displayed in the thickbox. What i have so far is the search field and button, when i press submit, it briefly shows the thickbox, and than is overloaded by the result page, but than with no search results. • Merge Microsoft Word documents with TortoiseSVN

  TortoiseSVN has a nice VBA script that allows to merge Microsoft Word documents using Word builtin change tracking functionality. This way, when I merge changes from a branch into the trunk I can resolve the conflicts in Word documents. However, the feature is not as useful as it could because it doesn't track revision changes; it just compares the two documents as a whole. This way, when I merge a revision where one paragraph was added to the document I'm not offered to review this paragraph. Instead, I have to review all the differences between the source and target documents (including stuff like TOC bookmark names). Is it an inherent limitation I cannot override? Or is it due to the fact that my Word version is pretty old? (I'm using Word 2002). Also, if you know about a magic tool or plugin... ;-)

• How to detect checkbox state in Javascript IE7

  I have a simple checkbox on my website. Everytime you check and uncheck it, it shows an alert as to what the state is. This works flawlessly in FF, Chrome, and IE8. However, when I run this in IE7, no matter if the check is on or off, it always alerts "off". It's like IE7 can't detect that the checkbox is checked. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this or work around it? I basically need to toggle the visibility of some content based on a checkbox, but IE7 is being difficult. Thanks! • Is there a way to add name/value functionality to jquery autocomplete for .net?

  I've recently added the JQuery autocomplete plug in and have a textbox that autocompletes a list of employees. It works great and I commend the authors of the plugin. I think the textbox would be MUCH more useful though, when upon selecting, we can extract the StaffID (Ie. retreive the value of the selection). My code is below and you can see that I am simply adding the staff names, would be nice to associate IDs. Does anyone know of any way to do this? • jQuery: Highlight element under mouse cursor?

  I'm trying to create an "element picker" in jQuery, like Firebug has. Basically, I want to highlight the element underneath the user's mouse. Then I listen for the mouseover event on every element, then move the div so that it covers that element. Right now, this just makes the whole page go red as soon as you move your mouse over the page. How can I get this to work nicer? Edit: Pretty sure the problem is that as soon as my mouse touches the page, the body gets selected, and then as I move my mouse around, none of the moments get passed through the highligher because its overtop of everything. • Flash receives mouse events under an HTML element when opacity set

  I have an HTML document with a Flash object and an absolutely positioned HTML element above it. If I set the HTML element's opacity CSS property to any value less than 1, the Flash object (that is actually covered) receives mouse events. This problem cannot be reproduced with pure HTML elements. Furthermore, Flash only receives hover events, so I cannot click below the layer. I put a demonstration of the problem online. I get this behavior in Firefox 3.6, Safari 4.0 and Chrome 5.0 in both Mac and Windows. Flash plugin version 10 is installed. Is it a bug or the the normal and expected behavior? If the latter, then how can I prevent Flash receiving events when it is covered with a translucent layer?

• Compilation of latex file

  Hi, I am compiling a latex file on a server and download from there the generated dvi, ps and pdf files to view them. The latex file by \includegraphics includes some figure files which are not on my local machine. I found that dvi file generated by latex command does not show the figures after dowloaded to my local, but ps file generated by dvips -Ppdf have the figures, and pdf file generated by either ps2pdf or pdflatex seem not have the figures again. Is it because the figures are not actually embeded as part of the dvi and pdf files by those compilation commands? How to actually embed figures so we can only export the document files to other machines? are the case for tables in separated tex files included into main tex file by /input and the case for style files included by \usepackage similar to the above case for figure files included by \includegraphics ?
