  • Mixin or Trait implementation in AS3?

    I'm looking for ideas on how to implement a Mixin/Trait style system in AS3. I want to be able to compose a number of classes together into a single object. Of course this is not a language level feature of AS3, but I'm hoping that there is maybe some way to do this using prototype based techniques or maybe some bytecode hacking that I believe AsMock uses to implement it's functionality. An existing Java example is Qi4J where the user define interfaces that the Qi4j framework implements based on metadata tags and coding by convention. Has anyone any ideas on how to get the Mixin/Trait concept working within AS3?

  • Why is the volatile qualifier used through out std::atomic?

    From what I've read from Herb Sutter and others you would think that volatile and concurrent programming were completely orthogonal concepts, at least as far as C/C++ are concerned. However, in GCC c++0x extension all of std::atomic's member functions have the volatile qualifier. The same is true in Anthony Williams's implementation of std::atomic. So what's deal, do my atomic<> variables need be volatile or not?

But I really don't understand this : BOOL TreeView::DoNotify(HWND hWnd, UINT msg, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { // blah blah HTREEVIEW Selected = (HTREEITEM)SendDlgItemMessage(hWnd,ID_TREE,TVM_GETNEXTITEM,TVGN_CARET,(LPARAM)Selected); // halb halb } It doesn't work ( Selected is used without initializing) until I declare Selected as global variable.     Though I come from a purely PHP background on the web development side of programming, I have also spent much time with C# and C++ on the desktop. I don't really want to spark any flame wars, but: When should you use scripting languages over compiled languages for website development? (and vice versa) Just to clarify, for the sake of this question, I define a "scripting language" to mean an interpreted language like PHP, Python, or Ruby, and a "compiled language" to mean a strongly typed, compiled language like C#, C++, Java, or VB.

  • reading binary datafile and writing into decimal no file

    exp data is generated by my mc scaler card as a binary file with first 511 bytes as header and then 24 bit data followed by four bit roi data. i am not a expert in programming. i do understand a little. I would like to convert this file into a file (without header) decimal nos with first col as channel no (1 to 8191) then the data (24 bit) then the Roi data (4 bit). I am looking for source code in c or qbasic. thanks

  • Python Mindstorms RCX

    I've got 30 unopened Lego Mindstorms kits that I'd love to use in my intro programming class to do some simple robotics stuff at the end of the year. We're using Python in the class, so I'd prefer there to be a way for the kids to write the programs in Python. Unfortunately, these are old kits with RCX bricks - not the newer NXT ones, so most of the projects like NXT_Python can't help me. Is there any way to make that happen?

  • Is LuaJIT really faster than every other JIT-ed dynamic languages?

    According to the computer language benchmark game, the LuaJIT implementation seems to beat every other JIT-ed dynamic language (V8, Tracemonkey, PLT Scheme, Erlang HIPE) by an order of magnitude. I know that these benchmarks are not representative (as they say: "Which programming language implementations have the fastest benchmark programs?"), but this is still really impressive. In practice, is it really the case? Someone have tested that Lua implementation?

    What is the best practice, even in general programming, when you have an undefined, possibly infinite, amount of items that you need in an array but don't have defined bounds.   • Allow access to my server.

    I have a server, did some of the programming myself. It ison my home network, but I need to be able to access it from anywhere over the internet. I have done the port forwarding like I am supposed to, but I still cant get to it from an outside computer. It just displays Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. I don't know what else to do. I am on a Linksys WRT54G v8 router running ddWRT v24 micro firmware.
