    - by Michael
Trying to run Apache so that I can create a testing server on my mac. When I start apache it starts, but it doesn't run (no connection to local host. Ill upload the unix, you'll see that after starting there is no processes, and I did a check to show you what was running on my port 80... I don't entirely know that means. • How to tell if OpenGL is really working in Ubuntu 10.04

    - by Jonathan
I have a lenovo S9e running Intel integrated graphics. Here is my lspci output related to the graphics: 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) Subsystem: Lenovo Device 3870 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Memory at f0580000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K] Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2 I want to know how I can make sure OpenGL support is running in full on an Ubuntu 10.04 installation. I have a few hints to think that it is not: The "Desktop Effects" will not load Apps such as stardock, when attempting to use OpenGL rendering, will display black boxes instead of transparency In the games Pioneers, the number-tile icons are suspiciously just black circles Windows games running with Wine will only support software rendering, not hardware rendering When I boot into a Knoppix LiveCD, the desktop effects do work, splendidly, meaning compiz detects my computer as capable. My problem with troubleshooting is that Canonical has basically eliminated the conf-file-based mechanism of X11 as far as I can tell, thus making it even harder to ensure graphics modules are loading properly. How do I debug and test OpenGL on m Ubuntu 10.04 installation?

  • diagnostic software for wifi adapter

    - by Nathan Fellman
I'm having trouble with my wifi connection. Is there any software out there that can help me determine if the problem is in the drivers or in the hardware? Regretfully, I'm working on Vista Edit: The problem I'm having is that the Vista reports that the wireless radio is connected, shows an IP and all, the router also shows that the computer is connected, but there's no connectivity. I can't logon to the router, and I can't even ping it. When I ping it I get the response: General Failure I have tried connecting with and without various wireless security protocols. I have tried disabling the wireless adapter and re-enabling it from the Device Manager I have tried updating the driver None of this has helped. When I connect via Ethernet (with a cable, that is), everything works fine. Edit: I'm not using any firewall on the computer, that I'm aware of. The IP address for the WIFI adapter is similar to the one for the LAN adapter. They differ by one.

  • Why is my metro screen getting extended to half of the second screen?

    - by maximusyoda
When I extend my desktop to the second screen, it stays fine for a few minutes, but after a while, the first metro screen stretches all the way to half of the second screen. The search bar etc stops working. The desktop itself shares fine. But the metro screen is messed up as well as the resolution. The second screen is using the recommended resolution. All I want is to have an extended screen. The problem occurs in my office Windows 8 laptop as well. Not sure what to do with it. • 2nd/3rd version of wireless network appears

    - by neildeadman
I replaced an old SpeedTouch ADSL router with a Netgear DG384 that I have and whilst doing so decided to change the wireless password. For this question assume my wireless network SSID is DeddersHome. On my netbook and macbook pro (running Win7) it won't connect to the Internet. When I hover over the tray icon for wireless it says "DeddersHome 2" and "DeddersHome 3" have no internet connection. What are these additional wireless networks? I can't see them in the wireless network list on any wireless device I have. Wired connections and wireless through my iPhone work fine. I saw this before with the SpeedTouch, but it just went away!! I also have one Apple AirPort Express connected to the wireless network which my Xbox is connected to (wired). This all worked before... I am going to remove AirPort to see if it is this causing the problem, but thought I'd ask the question to give it time for an answer whilst I continue to search. Cheers

  • Solaris mounting partitions

    - by Benco
I'm trying to mount a partition in solaris 10... bash-3.00# mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s3 /data mount: /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s3 is already mounted or /data is busy As far as I know c0t0d0s3 isn't already mounted elsewhere, so what's really going on here? • Attempting to caue packet loss with netem doesn't work - possibly because of NAT (but delay does work)

    - by tomdee
I have traffic from a WIFI access point routed via an Ubuntu box. I have two network interfaces which are NATed *filter :INPUT ACCEPT [11:690] :FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [37:6224] -A FORWARD -s 192.168.2.0/24 -i eth1 -o eth0 -m conntrack --ctstate NEW -j ACCEPT -A FORWARD -m conntrack --ctstate RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT COMMIT # Completed on Thu Mar 15 13:37:21 2012 # Generated by iptables-save v1.4.10 on Thu Mar 15 13:37:21 2012 *nat :PREROUTING ACCEPT [0:0] :INPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :POSTROUTING ACCEPT [0:0] -A POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE COMMIT If I run a ping app on an Android device connected to the WIFI network I can happily ping google. If I use netem to introduce some delay tc qdisc change dev eth0 root netem delay 100ms I can clearly see pings taking longer. If I use netem to introduce some packet loss tc qdisc change dev ifb0 root netem loss 50% then I see no change. Packet loss does work fine for locally generated traffic, just not for traffic coming in over the network that's being NATed. Any ideas how to sort this out?

  • Monitor Bonded Interface for Disconnection

    - by bradlis7
I am trying to monitor for network failures on a machine, and one portion of that is to monitor interfaces that are intended to be active also be "RUNNING". An Ethernet port, such as eth0, will say "RUNNING" if it is physically connected to another device. The problem lies in the bonded interfaces, such as bond0. If all of the ethernet devices are disconnected, it still says that it is running, and it is still pingable. Is this by design, or is my system setup incorrectly? Does the miimon option have something to do with this?

  • Change Linux console screen blanking behavior

    - by quack quixote
How do I change the screen blanking behavior on Linux virtual terminals? For example, if I switch to a VT from X, login, and leave the system alone for 5 minutes or so, the screen will blank like a screensaver. It comes back with any keypress, like a screensaver. Mostly I just want to change the timeout, but I'm also interested in other settings. If it helps, one of my systems is running Ubuntu 10.04 with the stock graphics drivers. fbset shows the console using the radeondrmfb framebuffer device.

  • Where can I configure wireless to be passed on to the Virtualbox guest?

    - by huahsin68
I have WinXP install in virtualbox which host in Linux. I have a TP-Link (TP-WN321G) USB wifi adapter and have the driver installed inside WinXP. When I plug-in the wifi adapter, there is an option show "Ralink 802.11g WLAN [0101]" in the virtualbox's USB icon, tick on that option, the Device Manager able to detect the hardware which shows TP-Link, but when look into the properties, it says there is no driver was install. I did try to install Ralink driver but still no luck. Just curious why my wifi adapter is TP-Link, but the option show Ralink? May I know how can I emulate the wireless network inside WindowsXP?

However, I'm facing strange error at the begining of the process. make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build/ M=`pwd` make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.18-194.11.3.el5PAE/build/: File not found Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? This is first time when I try to install Linux on my laptop.

  • Good quality voice communication software over Internet for windows

    - by ORA600
I regularly attend over-the-phone meetings, where is a polycom/polispan device on the other side. The quality of the sound is bad, even those whose English is a first language sometimes are struggling to realize what is being said on the other side. I understand this is because of too aggressive audio compression in the line. Does anyone know any good audio chat software which does not over-compress audio stream. The IP channel between two offices is wide enough. In other words, you should be able to listen to a music (not only a speech) from the remote side with good quality. So, Skype is too over-compressing as well. Does anyone know anything like that?

I can find the VPN being launched from here: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Cm\<Company Name> I can see the VPN connection under network connections: Name Type Device Name Connection Manager ------------------- Connection to <Company Name> Connection Manger WAM Miniport (PPTP) Do I just need to delete the connection from Network Connections? And delete the directory? Or?

  • Is it possible to add hardware on a remote machine and use it as if it was installed on the local machine?

    - by that0th3rGuy
Probably a silly question. We have two computers in the apartment running Windows 7 and Windows Vista. 99% of the time we use headphones but every now and then we have a desire for some ambiance so we got a set of 2.1 speakers. But now only one of us has access to the speakers unless we move them around every now and then. So I was wondering if it's possible to add the other computer's sound card as a hardware device on my computer so that I can configure, for instance, Winamp to play through the other computer's sound card, hence the speakers connected to the other computer.

  • help building a PC that can image a dozen hard drives simultaneously

    - by Bigbio2002
Not sure if this belongs on here or SuperUser, but here goes... I'm trying to figure out how to make a mass hard drive imaging PC out of COTS parts. A dedicated imaging device can do 10 drives at a time, but costs several thousand dollars. So far, I'm thinking to use several 3-port PCI-E Firewire cards, and use some kind of Firewire-to-IDE adapter to connect the drives themselves. The "software" would consist of scripting diskpart, or some other imaging utility. The problem is that I can't seem to find any sort of adapter. I could use standard external hard drive bays, but then I'd have a dozen power cables that I need to plug in. Ugly, messy, and inefficient. I picked Firewire over USB not only for better transfer speeds, but also because FW can deliver power over the bus (and could theoretically power a hard drive). Does anyone have any input on this?

  • IBM x260m won't boot from PCI SATA card

    - by syrenity
Hi. We ghosted our old Windows 2003 drive to a new 1TB one, and connected through new PCI SATA card. The x260m server fails to boot with error 1962: "Boot sector not found." When we connect the drive directly to motherboard, it boots fine, so the problem is probably in getting BIOS to boot from the SATA card. Has anyone encountered and solved such issue? EDIT: We tried disabling the on-board Sata controller (Hostraid/SAS?), but there is no such option - only enable, enhanced and compatible. Tried also to chance boot device priority to all possible choices - no luck. Thanks in advance!

  • Scripted printer configuration changes

    - by David Steven
I've got about a dozen Windows XP machines that I need to make a couple specific printer configuration changes to. The printer is "virtual" printer for an electronic delivery service. I'd like to not have to visit each machine individually. I already have the means to execute commands remotely on the machines, I just can't seem to find away to adjust these settings via command line or script. Specifically I need to be able to make the following changes: 1) As an admin user: - Device Settings - Font Substitution Table/Courier New - Change to "Courier" 2) As a specific* user: - Printer Preferences - Paper/Quality - Advanced - Change Graphic/Print Quality to "600 x 600" - Change Document Options/Printer Features/Graphics Mode to "HP-GL/2" *This change is a per user configuration, unless there's some way to make it once. In this situation I only really need it for a specific (different) user on each machine.

  • BGP Router reccomendations for simple redundancy [closed]

    - by Jona
We have two sites that each have an internet connection and have a dedicated dark fibre between them. Each site has it's own IP space and we have an AS number. We're looking to be resilient to failure of the internet connection to either site and so need to buy a pair of approriate routers. Requirements are: Able to run 2 bgp sessions (one with the ISP, one with the other site router) Option to take a full table from the upstream ISPs would be nice. Able to provide HA gateways on the LAN side (e.g. 192.168.0.254 will automatically migrate if it's host router lost power) A dedicated device rather than a server running Linux / BSD Not crazy expensive. Any help / advice much appreciated.

  • Solution to wirelessly project tablet desktop?

    - by Robert
I’m trying to find a device that would allow a windows 7 client to wirelessly connect and display their screen to a projector while still connected to the wireless network. The idea is to allow a professor to still project and display content while walking around the room with their tablet. To date, haven’t been able to find a solution that meets the requirements, has anyone stumbled across one yet? Requirements Must support Windows 7 Must be able to connect to WPA2 Personal(and hopefully enterprise) Must not use any usb dongles – those get lost/damaged given a chance. Goal Wirelessly display screen to projector without cables from tablet/laptop.

  • Finding spoofed IP address on network

    - by Jared
I have a few IP spoof dropped messages coming out of my Sonicwall firewall, we'll call them Source A and Source B. Both of these sources have the same mac address indicating they're coming from the layer 3 switch behind my firewall. Source A has an ip within a valid subnet on my network and it shows up in the ARP table of my layer 3 switch. I was able to trace the exact location and fix the issue. Source B's ip however, is not within valid subnet on my network and it's not showing up in my layer 3 switches arp table. Any idea how I can trace the location of this device within my network? Thanks in advance.

  • Suggestions on providing HA access to an external (fibre) RAID subsystem

    - by user145198
We are looking at upgrading our storage capacity with an external RAID subsystem that has redundant (2) fibre controllers, each controller has 4 x 8 Gbps fibre ports. I would like to make access to this storage system occur via HA Linux. Ideally I would connect 2 fibre ports from each controller into each Linux server, and then export either NFS or iSCSI via a 10 Gbe interface. I have seen plenty of references to DRBD, however all of those references tend to use block storage that is solely attached to each machine, rather than having a shared block storage device, so I am unsure if DRBD could (or should) be used in this case. Ideas?

  • tradeoffs of iSCSI vs. AFP when using Time Machine with a NAS?

    - by ajit.george
I'm setting up a home NAS device (Synology DS409) that I'm planning to use for Time Machine backups (amongst other things). What are the tradeoffs between using iSCSI or AFP to mount the backup volume? The Synology wiki suggests that iSCSI is better if the Mac will be frequently disconnected from the network or sleeping, from the point of view of the volume automatically remounting. What about filesystem consistency? Given that unplugging a USB drive without properly unmounting it often requires the Time Machine volume to be repaired, would iSCSI have the same issues? Thanks in advance.

  • How to make the PC speaker beep from the Windows 7 command prompt?

    - by oKtosiTe
I'm running some lengthy video encodes using the Handbrake command line interface. After all my encodes are done, I would like to have the PC speaker beep, as I usually turn my large external speakers off. On Linux I would install the "beep" package, but so far I haven't found such a program for Windows 7. Possibly related links: System "Beep" sound does not function in Windows Vista x64 with HD Audio devices (I am indeed using an HD Audio device: the SoundMAX ADI1986A) What’s up with the Beep driver in Windows 7? Edit: The question seems to have morphed into "How to make Windows 7 beep the PC speaker?", for which the answer provided by HarryMC is the most appropriate.
