  • winkey + arrow key doesn't move windows to 2nd monitor on linux

    in Windows, win+ <-- and win+ --> snap any window to the left/right side of a monitor, and if pressed again, snap the window to the other monitor, in multi-monitor environment. when a window is maximized, it will "restore" the window first, and at the next win+ <-- key the window will snap. this is very easy to use and remember. But on Linux a maximized window is not affected by win+ <-- , and the user must explicitly un-maximize it (win+down. the window is not moved to another monitor a side-snapped window cannot be resized - it behaves like a maximized window. is there another program that behaves like Windows, or I should write one by myself? (i'm using ubuntu/mint)

  • JQuery $.ajax doesn't return anything, but only in Google Chrome!?

    Hi All, I'm hoping someone can help me with this as I'm at a loss. I'm trying to simply load a plain text file into a page at runtime using jquery- everything works fine in IE8 (8.0.7600.16385), Firefox 3.6.3, however in Google Chrome 5.0.375.55 the "data" comes back as nothing- i get an empty alert box.   • Resources.resx in c# projects

    I have a problem using a Resources.resx - Resources.de.resx - combination in a C#/WPF project. The whole solutions contains several projects and some projects contains resource files. When starting the main project I can switch the language successfully from english to german. But the GUI elements from the sub projects still show the english text.     I know the .NET framework and WPF pretty well, but I think the whole thing has gotten too blown up, especially for small apps as the whole .NET framework 3.5 weighs 197 MB by now. I am looking for a language/framework/library that provides functionality similar to that of WPF (animations, gradients, a.s.o.) and the .NET framework (of course not everything, but the basic features) and which is faster and more lightweight than the .NET framework and creates smaller and faster applications than the ones using .NET. Do you have any suggestions?

  • What is the worst Mac OS X annoyance in your opinion?

    I'll start with multi-monitor support. I'm trying to set up a Macbook to use an external display and I can't for the life of me get it to move the Dock over to the external display. That and it won't let me disable the Macbook's internal LCD. Please put one item into each post so that the community can vote on each issue.     As I know, in PHP, we need to connect LDAP over SSL in order to change user password. Is there another way, E.G, other language (JAVA / ASP) to change LDAP password without SSL required? Thanks. Updates: I get "Warning: ldap_mod_replace() [function.ldap-mod-replace]: Modify: Insufficient access" when I try to modify self account password. If i try to change other user password, I get no error message, but the password still stick to the old one.

  • Wordpress 3 mutli site install

    Hello, Trying to figure out if this is possible... My company has a cms product that was written in Java and we decided to use Wordpress to run blogs for our clients. Obviously, Wordpress does not run on tomcat(at least not by default) so we installed Pound(http://www.apsis.ch/pound/) on our server and have setup any Apache and Tomcat on different ports. When "/blog/" is requested, the request is directed to Apache. This works fine but we would like to use Wordpress multi site so that we can manage all the blogs from a single interface. We would also like the url for every site to be "/blog/" example: http://www.site1.com/blog/ http://www.site2.com/blog/ I'm thinking it would have to be done with apache??? Is it even possible?   • Accessing WindowsXP shared printer from macbook?

    My new printer is setup on WindowsXP, it works and it is configured as a shared printer. I then setup a printer from Mac OSX 10.6.3 using the approved driver from the setup CD. I browsed for the printer via the network. When I send a test page, it queues, but never prints. Its as if the driver thinks the printer is local to the mac and just never finishes printing. THe configuration shows as: smb://dragoneye/CanonMP2 Where dragoneye is the name of the Windows XP server and the CanonMP2 is the little multi-purpose printer. My other Windows' CPU can setup and print. Is this a known problem or am I missing a setting??

    i want to use iPhone touch screen as the touchPad for my mac while both devices are connected via bluetooth. So far i hv gone for two approaches what i want is an application which when launched turns the bluetooth on and get connected to mac.Further ...screen of iPhone becomes the touch pad for mac. i dont want to install anything at the mac like any server........ I have already tried the vnc and remotePad approach. the one with vnc looks more promising for me..but even in that case i have to install a vnc server on mac ,i guess and then we'll have to actually call vnc client while my application is still running,which does not look real in 3.2 verson as it does not support multi tasking. Is there any other way of doing it? or is there anything wrong in my above interpretation? please let me know if there is anyother approach of doing the same or if i can do any thing different with my current approach. hoping for quick response Thanks

  • Is there an encoding method that is mutual to flash and php?

    I'm base64 encoding a JPG in AS3 and passing it to PHP where it would be decoded. It appears that AS3's encodeToBase64String() function and and PHP's base64_decode() function do not use the same algorithm. Is there a library or API for either language that would allow it to interface with the other? Alternatively, does anyone even know what PHP's default base64 map is? My Google searching is not yielding results.

Can anyone here recommend a database or similar system which matches the following criteria: Intuitive to use for users with little computer experience Multi-user support, ideally with integration in our existing LDAP user directory Should have a web-interface Not a hosted solution like Picasa (because we have a rather slow internet connection with very slow upload) Should allow tagging of images, sorting by various criteria and storing copyright information If there are native GNOME and/or Windows clients for the tool, that would be a great benefit.   • Shared storage solution for our sql server backups

    We have 3 clustered sql servers. We have 5+ multi terrabyte databases and their backup files (compressed using quest litespeed) are hitting over 600gb each, We are required to keep at least a week or two weeks (if we can) of weekly full backups and then 6 days differential backups, and a week or 2 weeks worth of log backups local. We are currently limited to 2TB volumes from our san team, we can have multiple volumes but they are expensive ($200 per raw TB per month) and having to deal with many backup volumes instead of a single big volume is difficult. I think if we could have a shared network storage of 20TB+ raid 10 or so for all our servers for keeping the backups and another department will copy them to tape from the network storage and delete files according to the retention period would be good, if this box would be a build in operating system (even unix a complete file storage system) that would be good. What do you guys think, does this make sense to you, is there any manufacturer that sells a storage product like that which that work in a clustered environment? Thank you

  • Appropriate Network switch for small server cluster

    Need to build a small business server cluster for the purpose of crunching data. It will not host a web site that needs to be available 24/7. It does need to support servers that host Redis, a Cassandra database cluster, and a Python web server. Operating system will most likely be Centos 6.4 Other servers in the cluster should be able to communicate very fast with each other, especially the Redis server. This will probably require the use of internal IP addresses. We will need to use multi-data center replication to synchronize the Cassandra cluster with the one that we currently have hosted on the cloud Was looking into network switches and we are unsure of the appropriate specifications that we should be looking for. Does the switch need to be "managed" or can it be "unmanged"? Does the switch need to support IPv6 or just IPv4? Do we need an enterprise level Cisco switch, or can we go with something like a $200 DLink managed (or unmanaged) small business switch? Thanks so much!

  • How to synchronize users, passwords, hosts, etc without NIS

    I am administering a very small solaris 2.6 network with 4 boxes total. Is it possible to use scp or similar to replace NIS for synchronizing users, groups, hosts, etc? This network is only a small part of my job and I don't want to spend too much time on it, and I am worried the setup and maintenence of NIS will not pay off. I need it to behave like a proper multi-user system, when a user logs into any machine, the users, passwords, hosts, etc. are always the same. Is there an easy way to do this with scp? Right now I copy /etc/passwd from one box to another with scp, but sometimes I make mistakes or forget a step, and scp inside of shell scripts don't seem to works so well since they require password authentication. Any recommendations would be welcome.

  • Why can't my networks reach each other?

    We have two Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH2 routers, with the default firmware, DD-WRT v24SP2-MULTI (10/31/11) std - build 17798. Each has a separate cable internet connection with a public static IP address. They are both in the 24.123.68.0/24 space. Both of them can contact pretty much the whole internet, and they can both be accessed out on the internet with no problem, but for some reason they can't talk to each other! When I try to ping one from the other I always get "Destination Host Unreachable". There are no strange routing or firewall rules in place. And they are both set to respond to pings, I can ping them from outside. Our main IT guy is going to call our ISP on Monday, but I'm impatient, so does anyone have any ideas?

  • Scalable chat site in python
