  • How do I support the touch of the navigation bar label?

    - by iaefai
I have an editor that I am making, and I need a way of editing the document's title. I was considering touching the title of the navigation item and have a custom view appear. I did this in an initial version of the application with a button bar item (and target/action), but I cannot seem to find a way to do it with the managed navigation bar. The alternative I was considering was putting another bar at the bottom with an item to do just that, but it doesn't seem like the best design if I don't need to do it, as it takes away from viewing space. • [self autorelease] not doing dealloc

    - by jonydep
i have this in the superview: mySubView = [[MySubView alloc] init]; [self addSubview:mySubView]; [mySubView release]; then at some point later, in the sub view, this: [self removeFromSuperview]; when i debug it, i notice that the dealloc for the subview is never called, even though i'm fairly sure the reference count should be 0. any ideas why this might be? thanks.

  • Asynchronous NSURLConnection Throws EXC_BAD_ACCESS

    - by Sheehan Alam
I'm not really sure why my code is throwing a EXC_BAD_ACCESS, I have followed the guidelines in Apple's documentation: -(void)getMessages:(NSString*)stream{ NSString* myURL = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://www.someurl.com"]; NSURLRequest *theRequest = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:myURL]]; NSURLConnection *theConnection=[[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:theRequest delegate:self]; if (theConnection) { receivedData = [[NSMutableData data] retain]; } else { NSLog(@"Connection Failed!"); } } And my delegate methods #pragma mark NSURLConnection Delegate Methods - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveResponse:(NSURLResponse *)response { // This method is called when the server has determined that it // has enough information to create the NSURLResponse. // It can be called multiple times, for example in the case of a // redirect, so each time we reset the data. // receivedData is an instance variable declared elsewhere. [receivedData setLength:0]; } - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data { // Append the new data to receivedData. // receivedData is an instance variable declared elsewhere. [receivedData appendData:data]; } - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)error { // release the connection, and the data object [connection release]; // receivedData is declared as a method instance elsewhere [receivedData release]; // inform the user NSLog(@"Connection failed! Error - %@ %@", [error localizedDescription], [[error userInfo] objectForKey:NSErrorFailingURLStringKey]); } - (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { // do something with the data // receivedData is declared as a method instance elsewhere NSLog(@"Succeeded! Received %d bytes of data",[receivedData length]); // release the connection, and the data object [connection release]; [receivedData release]; } I get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS on didReceiveData. Even if that method simply contains an NSLog, I get the error. Note: receivedData is an NSMutableData* in my header file

  • Record AVAudioPlayer output using AVAudioRecorder

    - by Kieran
In my app the user plays a sound by pressing a button. There are several buttons which can be played simultaneously. The sounds are played using AVAudioPlayer instances. I want to record the output of these instances using AVAudioRecorder. I have set it all up and a file is created and records but when I play it back it does not play any sound. It is just a silent file the length of the recording. Does anyone know if there is a setting I am missing with AVAudioPlayer or AVAudioRecorder? Thanks

  • UIALertView - retreive textfield value from textfield added via code

    - by George
Here is the code I have to create an UIalertView with a textbox. UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Enter A Username Here" message:@"this gets covered!" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Dismiss" otherButtonTitles:@"OK!", nil]; UITextField *myTextField = [[UITextField alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(12, 45, 260, 25)]; CGAffineTransform myTransform = CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(0, 60); [alert setTransform:myTransform]; alert.tag = kAlertSaveScore; [myTextField setBackgroundColor:[UIColor whiteColor]]; [alert addSubview:myTextField]; [alert show]; [alert release]; [myTextField release]; My question is, how do I get the value from the textfield in: - (void) alertView:(UIAlertView *) actionSheet clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex { } I know I can get the standard stuff for the alertview such as actionSheet.tag and such, but how would I get the above created textfield? Thanks in advance for any and all help. Geo...

  • Objective-C partial implementation of classes in separate files

    - by Aran Mulholland
I am using core data and am generating classes from my data model. I implement custom methods in these classes, however when i regenerate i generate over the top so i end up copying and pasting a bit. What i would like to do is split my implementation files ('.m') so i can have one header file with multiple '.m' files. then i can keep my custom methods in one and not have to worry about erasing them when i regenerate. I use this technique in .NET a lot with its partial keyword. Is there anything similar in objective-C

  • Cocos2D SpriteSheet animation problem, my number of frames is much larger.

    - by vaibhav-tekam
Hello, I am trying to use SpriteSheet to run an animation. My frames are of 320x480 in size each, So I am able to put max 6 frames on the texture image. But my animation consists of frame number ranging from 50 to 200 sometimes, and all are of size 320x480. But this much number of frames cannot be added on the Texture image as the size is restricted to 1024x1024. Is there any other approach I can try out. Can I play one animation after the other. And won't it be hampering the performance. Please, I need suggestions. Best, Vaibhav Tekam.

  • extract data from Plist to array and dictionary

    - by Boaz
    Hi I made a plist that looks like that: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList 1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <array> <array> <dict> <key>Company</key> <string>xxx</string> <key>Title</key> <string>VP Marketing</string> <key>Name</key> <string>Alon ddfr</string> </dict> <dict> <key>Name</key> <string>Adam Ben Shushan</string> <key>Title</key> <string>CEO</string> <key>Company</key> <string>Shushan ltd.</string> </dict> </array> <array> <dict> <key>Company</key> <string>xxx</string> <key>Title</key> <string>CTO</string> <key>Name</key> <string>Boaz frf</string> </dict> </array> </array> </plist> Now I want to extract the data like that (all the 'A' for key "Name" to one section and all the 'B' "Name" to other one): NSString *plistpath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"PeopleData" ofType:@"plist"]; NSMutableArray *attendees = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:plistpath]; listOfPeople = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];//Add items NSDictionary *indexADict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:[[attendees objectAtIndex:0] objectForKey:@"Name"] forKey:@"Profiles"]; NSDictionary *indexBDict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:[[attendees objectAtIndex:1] objectForKey:@"Name"] forKey:@"Profiles"]; [listOfPeople addObject:indexADict]; [listOfPeople addObject:indexBDict]; This in order to view them in sectioned tableView. I know that the problem is here: NSDictionary *indexADict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:[[attendees objectAtIndex:0] objectForKey:@"Name"] forKey:@"Profiles"]; But I just can't figure how to do it right. Thanks.

  • How do I set an Array in one class with another array in another class in Objective-C

    - by Stef
Hi Guys, I've populated and array with data like this in one class... PowerClass .h NSMutableArray pickerArray; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray pickerArray; - PowerClass .m @synthesize pickerArray; @implementation NSMutableArray *array = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:@"stef", @"steve", @"baddamans", @"jonny", nil]; pickerArray = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:array]; And I'm trying to set the Array in another class WeekClass .h PowerClass *powerClass; NSMutableArray *pickerData; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray pickerData; @property (nonatomic, retain) PowerClass *powerClass; WeekClass .m @implementation pickerData = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:powerClass.pickerArray]; I have no errors or warnings. It just crashes. The NSLog says that the powerClass.PickerArray is Null... I don't know why this is... Please help point me in the right direction... Thanx guys Stef :-)

  • Autoresize UIScrollView

    - by Sebastian
    I made a UIViewController, which programatically generates a UIScrollView. Everything's fine, but when I rotate the Device, the UIScollView should resize so it takes the complete width of my View. Is there a way to do that without rebuilding the complete UIScrollView ? Thx a lot ! Sebastian This is called in my viewDidLoad: -(void)buildmyScroller { myScroller = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 800, 768, 100)]; //...adding some subviews to myScroller thumbScroller.contentSize = CGSizeMake(3000, 100); [[self view] addSubview:myScroller]; } Then I tried to resize myScroller with this: -(void)changemyScroller { UIInterfaceOrientation interfaceOrientation = self.interfaceOrientation; if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait) { [thumbScroller setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 805, 768, 150)]; } else if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown){ thumbScroller.frame = CGRectMake(0, 805, 768, 150); } else if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft){ thumbScroller.frame = CGRectMake(0, 549, 1024, 150); } else if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight){ thumbScroller.frame = CGRectMake(0, 549, 1024, 150); } } And called the method in didAnimateFirstHalf... cause I'm not shure where else to call it. Thx a lot again !!

  • UITableview titleForHeaderInSection not displaying correctly

    - by mjdth
I have some VERY simple code to return the title for a section header: - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { if (section==0) { return @""; } else if (section==1) { return @"Actions"; } else if (section==2) { return @"Attached To"; } return @""; } For some reason when the headers are actually displayed on the simulator, half of the time they're simply the first letter and then ellipses. Scrolling up and down (to refresh the header view most likely) will result in the title showing correctly roughly half the time and showing incorrectly the other half of the time. Do anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I think this is more of a recent development, but it seems to happen in almost all UITableViews in my application. I don't want to say this is a 3.2 issue, but it might have started happening around then, but either way it must be related to the code somehow. Thank you.

  • Using mergedModelFromBundles: and versioning (CoreData)

    - by charlax
Hi everybody, I'm trying to use the migration feature in CoreData. I've followed the Apple Documentation. I have a problem in the following method: /** Returns the managed object model for the application. If the model doesn't already exist, it is created by merging all of the models found in the application bundle. */ - (NSManagedObjectModel *)managedObjectModel { if (managedObjectModel != nil) { return managedObjectModel; } /* * NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: attempt to insert nil' * 2010-02-17 16:27:15.338 Patrimoine[3037:207] */ managedObjectModel = [[NSManagedObjectModel mergedModelFromBundles:nil] retain]; return managedObjectModel; } It appears that there is the same problem on http://iphonedevelopment.blogspot.com/2009/09/core-data-migration-problems.html Yet I did choose the method Apple suggests, by using the menu option "Add Model Version". Do you have any idea?

  • drawRect context Error

    - by user361228
Hi, I heard that a lot of people get a context error by not using drawRect Now I have this: - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { NSLog(@"drawRect: Starts"); CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSetRGBStrokeColor(context, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 3.0); CGContextMoveToPoint(context, lineStart.x, lineStart.y); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, lineEnd.x, lineEnd.y); CGContextStrokePath(context); } Error: <Error>: CGContextSetRGBStrokeColor: invalid context Which had work on previous programs, but not on this one. Whats different: I have a view controller, which calls this UIView: -(void)createLine:(CGPoint)start:(CGPoint)end { NSLog(@"createLine: Starts"); lineEnd = start; lineStart = end; self = [super initWithFrame:drawRect:CGRectMake(fmin(lineStart.x, lineEnd.x), fmin(lineStart.y, lineEnd.y), fabs(lineStart.x - lineEnd.x), fabs(lineStart.y - lineEnd.y))]; } This is my first question, and I am not sure how much info code I should be putting here so be easy on me :D Thanks

  • Core data many-to-many relationship - Predicate question

    - by Garry
In my Core Data model I have two entities: List and Patient. List has an attribute called 'name'. A List can have any number of Patients and each Patient can belong to any number of different lists. I have therefore set a relationship on List called 'patients' that has an inverse to-many relationship to Patient AND a relationship on Patient called 'lists' that has a to-many relationship to List. What I'm struggling to figure out is how to create a Predicate that will select all Patients that belong to a particular List name. How would I go about this? I have never used relationships before in Core Data. Thanks,

  • Intercept back button on uinavigationcontroller?

    - by cannyboy
A form is pushed onto the view. The form has several required fields. Also the form needs to be validated. I want to intercept the back button's click to check if the fields have been filled in, and validate the form. How would I intercept the button's click, and make sure it doesn't pop to the previous screen?

  • Incorrect value for sum of two NSIntegers

    - by Antonio
Hi everybody: I'm sure I'm missing something and the answer is very simple, but I can't seem to understand why this is happening. I'm trying to make an average of dates: NSInteger runningSum =0; NSInteger count=0; for (EventoData *event in self.events) { NSDate *dateFromString = [[NSDate alloc] init]; if (event.date != nil) { dateFromString = [dateFormatter dateFromString:event.date]; runningSum += (NSInteger)[dateFromString timeIntervalSince1970]; count += 1; } } if (count>0) { NSLog(@"average is: %@",[NSDate dateWithTimeIntervalSince1970:(NSInteger)((CGFloat)runningAverage/count)]); } Everything seems to work OK, except for runningSum += (NSInteger)[dateFromString timeIntervalSince1970], which gives an incorrect result. If I put a breakpoint when taking the average of two equal dates (2009-10-10, for example, which is a timeInterval of 1255125600), runningSum is -1784716096, instead of the expected 2510251200. I've tried using NSNumber and I get the same result. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks! Antonio

  • CGPDFContextCreateWithURL not correctly creating context

    - by mjdth
Using the following code, the ctx is not correctly being created. It remains nil: #import <QuartzCore/QuartzCore.h> @implementation UIView(PDFWritingAdditions) - (void)renderInPDFFile:(NSString*)path { CGRect mediaBox = self.bounds; CGContextRef ctx = CGPDFContextCreateWithURL((CFURLRef)[NSURL URLWithString:path], &mediaBox, NULL); CGPDFContextBeginPage(ctx, NULL); CGContextScaleCTM(ctx, 1, -1); CGContextTranslateCTM(ctx, 0, -mediaBox.size.height); [self.layer renderInContext:ctx]; CGPDFContextEndPage(ctx); CFRelease(ctx); } @end In the console it shows: <Error>: CGPDFContextCreate: failed to create PDF context delegate. I've tried several different paths so I'm fairly certain that is not the problem. Thanks for any advice!

  • passing user from UITableView to UIWebView based on selection

    - by ct2k7
Hello, I'm trying to pass the user on to the interface based on their cell selection in the UITableView, ie, if the user selects cell 1, they are taken to view model 2, containing UIWebView. UIWebView then displays local file, cell1.html. Currently, I've manage to get placeholder using: selectedCellText.text = selectedCell; to display the name of the cell selected. How do I get it to directly pass to the UIWebView, stick UIWebView in the interface and link it using: UIWebView *myWebView = [[UIWebView alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; NSBundle *mainBundle = [NSBundle mainBundle]; NSString *stringUrl = [mainBundle pathForResource:@"selectedCell" ofType:@"html"]; NSURL *baseUrl = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:stringUrl]; NSURLRequest *urlRequest = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:baseUrl]; [myWebView loadRequest:urlRequest]; My other issue is that some of the cell names have spaces in them, and for simplicity, I'd like to ensure that there are no spaces (actually, will it even work with spaces in the name, I assume with %20 ? Thanks
