  • How to leave out some System.out/logging statements while executing java code?

    - by iamrohitbanga
    In C++ if we do not want some statements to compile into code that ships like assert function calls, we control their compilation through #ifndef preprocessor directives. How do we do this in Java? I have some System.out.println() statements for debugging which I would like to remove for the final code. one way is to make them execute conditionally under the affect of a boolean variable. Is there a better way of doing this? As I have a java swing application I can turn off the System.out.println statements without affecting the output. What is the method of doing this?

  • Why use threading data race will occur, but will not use gevent

    - by onlytiancai
    My test code is as follows, using threading, count is not 5,000,000 , so there has been data race, but using gevent, count is 5,000,000, there was no data race . Is not gevent coroutine execution will atom "count + = 1", rather than split into a one CPU instruction to execute? # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- import threading use_gevent = True use_debug = False cycles_count = 100*10000 if use_gevent: from gevent import monkey monkey.patch_thread() count = 0 class Counter(threading.Thread): def __init__(self, name): self.thread_name = name super(Counter, self).__init__(name=name) def run(self): global count for i in xrange(cycles_count): if use_debug: print '%s:%s' % (self.thread_name, count) count = count + 1 counters = [Counter('thread:%s' % i) for i in range(5)] for counter in counters: counter.start() for counter in counters: counter.join() print 'count=%s' % count

  • Statically linked libraries not running code inside to setup static variables.

    - by MJD
    In a c++ project I am working on, I have a simple c++ file that needs to run some code at the beginning of the program execution. This file is linked into a static library, which is then linked into the main program. I have similar code in other files running fine, that looks something like: bool ____nonexistent_value = executeAction(); However, it does not work inside this file unless I make use of a function implemented in this file. It does work if the library is compiled as a shared library. I'd prefer to link this statically as the library is only a convenience as the file is in a different directory.

  • how to remove error text from the email format checker code?

    - by rdesai
    I have been writing a code for validating forms using javascript/jquery. Following is a code snippet for checking email format. The problem is when I enter invalid email, it recognizes it, but when I go back to this field and enter correct email, the error text still stays even though I have used the 'else' part. How do I remove the error text in this case? if(e1.value!=''){ var emailRegEx = /^[A-Z0-9._%+-]+@[A-Z0-9.-]+\.[A-Z]{2,4}$/i; if (document.signupForm.email1.value.search(emailRegEx) == -1) { $("#err_email1").html("Please enter valid email address."); } status=0; } else{ $("#err_email1").html(""); status=1; }

  • C++ Beginner - Simple block of code crashing, reason unknown.

    - by Francisco P.
    Hello everyone, Here's a block of code I'm having trouble with. string Game::tradeRandomPieces(Player & player) { string hand = player.getHand(); string piecesRemoved; size_t index; for (size_t numberOfPiecesToTrade = rand() % hand.size() + 1; numberOfPiecesToTrade != 0; --numberOfPiecesToTrade) { index = rand() % hand.size(); piecesRemoved += hand[index]; hand.erase(index,1); } player.removePiecesFromHand(piecesRemoved); player.fillHand(_deck); return piecesRemoved; } I believe the code is pretty self explanatory. fillhand and removepiecesfromhand are working fine, so that's not it. I really can't get what's wrong with this :( Thanks for your time

  • Obj-C memory management for an NSView * instance variable

    - by massimoperi
    My custom view has a subview as an instance variable. Here is a sample interface: @interface MyCustomView : NSView { NSView *aSubview; } @end Then, in the .m file, I initialize aSubView and add it to the custom view. - (id)init { self = [super initWithFrame:CGRectMakeFrame(0.0, 0.0, 320.0, 480.0); if (self) { aSubview = [[NSView alloc] initWithFrame(0.0, 0.0, 100.0, 100.0); [self addSubview:aSubview]; } return self; } Where should I release aSubView? In the -dealloc method? - (void)dealloc { [aSubView release]; [super dealloc]; } Or directly after adding it to the custom view in the -init method? - (id)init { [...] [self addSubview:aSubview]; [aSubview release]; [...] } Which one is the best implementation?

  • What's some simple F# code that generates the .tail IL instruction?

    - by kld2010
    I'd like to see the .tail IL instruction, but the simple recursive functions using tail calls that I've been writing are apparently optimized into loops. I'm actually guessing on this, as I'm not entirely sure what a loop looks like in Reflector. I definitely don't see any .tail opcodes though. I have "Generate tail calls" checked in my project's properties. I've also tried both Debug and Release builds in Reflector. The code I used is from Programming F# by Chris Smith, page 190: let factorial x = // Keep track of both x and an accumulator value (acc) let rec tailRecursiveFactorial x acc = if x <= 1 then acc else tailRecursiveFactorial (x - 1) (acc * x) tailRecursiveFactorial x 1 Can anyone suggest some simple F# code which will indeed generate .tail?

  • PHP - turning register globals off, what is the best way to go about fixing the code?

    - by user187809
    I am working on a old code base, where programmers assumed that register_globals will always be on. Hence variables are used without $_GET or $_POST prefix, pretty much in every page (the code base is huge, hundreds of scripts). I tried turning it off, but the very first script (login script) goes on an infinite loop. I understand that going through one script at a time, and one line at a time and fixing the variables is probably the only option (adding the prefix $_GET or $_POST as the case may be). Has anyone does this before? How did you go about doing it? Any advice?

  • Secure way to run other people code (sandbox) on my server?

    - by amikazmi
    I want to make a web service that run other people code locally... Naturally, I want to limit their code access to certain "sandbox" directory, and that they wont be able to connect to other parts of my server (DB, main webserver, etc) Whats the best way to do it? Run VMware/Virtualbox: (+) I guess it's as secure as it gets.. even if someone manage to "hack".. they only hack the guest machine (+) can limit the cpu & memory the process uses (+) easy to setup.. just create the VM (-) harder to "connect" the sandbox directory from the host to the guest (-) wasting extra memory and cpu for managing the VM Run underprivileged user: (+) doesnt waste extra resources (+) sandbox directory is just a plain directory (?) cant limit cpu and memory? (?) dont know if it's secure enough... Any other way? Server running Fedora Core 8, the "other" codes written in Java & C++

  • How do I "step over" jQuery code while debugging?

    - by Scott Rippey
    While stepping through a script that uses jQuery, I just want to test the code I wrote. I don't want to step into the jQuery file -- I'm not debugging jQuery, just my own file. Are there any ways to tell a debugger to not step into the jQuery file? I use Visual Studio + Internet Explorer, as well as Firefox + Firebug for stepping through code ... and both seem to love to step through dozens of jQuery statements. For example, say I have a script like this: $("div").each(function() { $(this).hide(); }); I would like to press "step into" and not see the implementation of ".each()" etc... In C#, this is possible by using the [DebuggerStepThrough()] attribute on a class. But that doesn't help with JavaScript.

  • js code works for one variable(?), how to make it work for many?

    - by jerry87
    I have working code of js, it shows different div for selected option. <html> <head> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#box1').hide(); $('#box2').hide(); $('#box3').hide(); $("#thechoices").change(function(){ $("#" + this.value).show().siblings().hide(); }); $("#thechoices").change(); }); </script> </head> <body> <select id="thechoices"> <option value="box1">Box 1</option> <option value="box2">Box 2</option> <option value="box3">Box 3</option> </select> <!-- the DIVs --> <div id="boxes"> <div id="box1"><p>Box 1 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box2"><p>Box 2 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box3"><p>Box 3 stuff...</p></div> </div> </body> </html> Please, I have no js experience, so I don't know how to make it work several times on one page for many "thechoices". Something like copy paste but more suitable than this: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#box1').hide(); $('#box2').hide(); $('#box3').hide(); $('#box4').hide(); $('#box5').hide(); $('#box6').hide(); $("#thechoices").change(function(){ $("#" + this.value).show().siblings().hide(); }); $("#thechoices2").change(function(){ $("#" + this.value).show().siblings().hide(); }); $("#thechoices").change(); }); $("#thechoices2").change(); }); </script> </head> <body> <select id="thechoices"> <option value="box1">Box 1</option> <option value="box2">Box 2</option> <option value="box3">Box 3</option> </select> <!-- the DIVs --> <div id="boxes"> <div id="box1"><p>Box 1 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box2"><p>Box 2 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box3"><p>Box 3 stuff...</p></div> </div> <select id="thechoices2"> <option value="box4">1</option> <option value="box5">2</option> <option value="box6">3</option> </select> <!-- the DIVs --> <div id="boxes"> <div id="box4"><p>1 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box5"><p>2 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box6"><p>3 stuff...</p></div> </div> I know you can help me, it seems to be simple but I can't handle with this. How can I change my second code to work in the same way but not only for two selectors. I need it for many. Don't want to copy paste the same section like in my second code.

  • Google App Engine: Difficulty with Users API (or maybe just a Python syntax problem)

    - by Rosarch
    I have a simple GAE app that includes a login/logout link. This app is running on the dev server at the moment. The base page handler gets the current user, and creates a login/logout url appropriately. It then puts this information into a _template_data dictionary, for convenience of subclasses. class BasePage(webapp.RequestHandler): _user = users.get_current_user() _login_logout_link = None if _user: _login_logout_link = users.create_logout_url('/') else: _login_logout_link = users.create_login_url('/') _template_data = {} _template_data['login_logout_link'] = _login_logout_link _template_data['user'] = _user def render(self, templateName, templateData): path = os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), 'Static/Templates/%s.html' % templateName) self.response.out.write(template.render(path, templateData)) Here is one such subclass: class MainPage(BasePage): def get(self): self.render('start', self._template_data) The login/logout link is displayed fine, and going to the correct devserver login/logout page. However, it seems to have no effect - the server still seems to think the user is logged out. What am I doing wrong here?

  • How can I get Ruby to treat the index of a string as a character (rather than the ASCII code)?

    - by user336777
    I am checking to see if the last character in a directory path is a '/'. How do you get ruby to treat the specific index of a string as a character rather than the associated ASCII code? For example the following always returns false: dir[dir.length - 1] == '/' This is because dir[dir.length - 1] returns the ASCII code 47 (rather than '/'). Any thoughts on how to interpret 47 as '/'? Or is there a completely different way to handle this in the first place? thanks.

  • How to create make .so files from code written in c or c++ that are usable from python

    - by None
    Looking at python modules and at code in the "lib-dnyload" directory in the python framework, I noticed whenever code is creating some kind of gui or graphic it imports a non-python file with a .so extension. And there are tons .so files in "lib-dnyload". From googling things I found that these files are called shared objects and are written in c or c++. I have a mac and I use gcc. I want to know how to make shared object files that are accessible via python. Mainly just how to make shared objects with gcc using mac os x.
