• Alien deletes .deb when converting from .rpm

  I'm trying to convert .rpm to .deb using alien. sudo alien -k libtetra-1.0.0-2.i386.rpm Alien says that: libtetra-1.0.0-2.i386.deb generated But when I check the folder - there is just original .rpm and no .deb. Also - I can see that for a split second there is a .deb file in a folder. so it looks like alien create .deb and deletes it right away. I suspect that it's maybe because I run 64 bit os and package is 32? Can somebody explain why alien deletes .deb automatically? • Calculated Columns in Entity Framework Code First Migrations

  I had a couple people ask me about calculated properties / columns in Entity Framework this week.  The question was, is there a way to specify a property in my C# class that is the result of some calculation involving 2 properties of the same class.  For example, in my database, I store a FirstName and a LastName column and I would like a FullName property that is computed from the FirstName and LastName columns.  My initial answer was: 1: public string FullName 2: { 3: get { return string.Format("{0} {1}", FirstName, LastName); } 4: } Of course, this works fine, but this does not give us the ability to write queries using the FullName property.  For example, this query: 1: var users = context.Users.Where(u => u.FullName.Contains("anan")); Would result in the following NotSupportedException: The specified type member 'FullName' is not supported in LINQ to Entities. Only initializers, entity members, and entity navigation properties are supported. It turns out there is a way to support this type of behavior with Entity Framework Code First Migrations by making use of Computed Columns in SQL Server.  While there is no native support for computed columns in Code First Migrations, we can manually configure our migration to use computed columns. Let’s start by defining our C# classes and DbContext: 1: public class UserProfile 2: { 3: public int Id { get; set; } 4: 5: public string FirstName { get; set; } 6: public string LastName { get; set; } 7: 8: [DatabaseGenerated(DatabaseGeneratedOption.Computed)] 9: public string FullName { get; private set; } 10: } 11: 12: public class UserContext : DbContext 13: { 14: public DbSet<UserProfile> Users { get; set; } 15: } The DatabaseGenerated attribute is needed on our FullName property.  This is a hint to let Entity Framework Code First know that the database will be computing this property for us. Next, we need to run 2 commands in the Package Manager Console.  First, run Enable-Migrations to enable Code First Migrations for the UserContext.  Next, run Add-Migration Initial to create an initial migration.  This will create a migration that creates the UserProfile table with 3 columns: FirstName, LastName, and FullName.  This is where we need to make a small change.  Instead of allowing Code First Migrations to create the FullName property, we will manually add that column as a computed column. 1: public partial class Initial : DbMigration 2: { 3: public override void Up() 4: { 5: CreateTable( 6: "dbo.UserProfiles", 7: c => new 8: { 9: Id = c.Int(nullable: false, identity: true), 10: FirstName = c.String(), 11: LastName = c.String(), 12: //FullName = c.String(), 13: }) 14: .PrimaryKey(t => t.Id); 15: Sql("ALTER TABLE dbo.UserProfiles ADD FullName AS FirstName + ' ' + LastName"); 16: } 17: 18: 19: public override void Down() 20: { 21: DropTable("dbo.UserProfiles"); 22: } 23: } Finally, run the Update-Database command.  Now we can query for Users using the FullName property and that query will be executed on the database server.  However, we encounter another potential problem. Since the FullName property is calculated by the database, it will get out of sync on the object side as soon as we make a change to the FirstName or LastName property.  Luckily, we can have the best of both worlds here by also adding the calculation back to the getter on the FullName property: 1: [DatabaseGenerated(DatabaseGeneratedOption.Computed)] 2: public string FullName 3: { 4: get { return FirstName + " " + LastName; } 5: private set 6: { 7: //Just need this here to trick EF 8: } 9: } Now we can both query for Users using the FullName property and we also won’t need to worry about the FullName property being out of sync with the FirstName and LastName properties.  When we run this code: 1: using(UserContext context = new UserContext()) 2: { 3: UserProfile userProfile = new UserProfile {FirstName = "Chanandler", LastName = "Bong"}; 4: 5: Console.WriteLine("Before saving: " + userProfile.FullName); 6: 7: context.Users.Add(userProfile); 8: context.SaveChanges(); 9:  10: Console.WriteLine("After saving: " + userProfile.FullName); 11:  12: UserProfile chanandler = context.Users.First(u => u.FullName == "Chanandler Bong"); 13: Console.WriteLine("After reading: " + chanandler.FullName); 14:  15: chanandler.FirstName = "Chandler"; 16: chanandler.LastName = "Bing"; 17:  18: Console.WriteLine("After changing: " + chanandler.FullName); 19:  20: } We get this output: It took a bit of work, but finally Chandler’s TV Guide can be delivered to the right person. The obvious downside to this implementation is that the FullName calculation is duplicated in the database and in the UserProfile class.   On Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot), my cron job run fine if I use the default * * * * * But if I want it to run at 17 hrs or any other time, it never runs. • Import images from camera in KDE with particular directory structure

  I have been using f-spot for a few years to manage my photo archive, which is about 50K images at the moment. With the development of f-spot slowing down in the recent years and me switching to KDE, I'm looking at using DigiKam, which seems to be very nice and packed with features beyond my wildest hopes :) One thing I'm missing though is the way f-spot was importing the images: it was creating subdirectories based on the image's shooting date: $HOME/Photos/2011/11/12/IMG_1234.jpg $HOME/Photos/2011/11/13/IMG_1235.jpg $HOME/Photos/2011/11/13/IMG_1236.jpg I don't seem to be able to find a way to make DigiKam to behave like this - although it has some settings to change the image filename according to some mask which may include shooting date, I see now way to tell it to create sub-directories. Is there a way to make DigiKam to behave like this? Or, alternatively, what is a good program to import images from a camera and save them on disk in subdirectories according to their shooting date?

• How to set multiple timezones in Gnome Classic?

  For some strange reason, additional timezones cannot be added to the clock using the date-time indicator in Gnome Classic (Ubuntu 12.04). I used Unity before I switched to Gnome Classic, and it was possible to add more timezones. Even in Gnome Classic I can see the other timezones in the menu of the date-time indicator which I added when I was still using Unity. When I go to System Settings Date and Time, there is no option for adding other timezones. How can I set additional timezones in Gnome Classic?

• Threads are facing deadlock in socket program [migrated]

  I am developing one program in which a user can download a number of files. Now first I am sending the list of files to the user. So from the list user selects one file at a time and provides path where to store that file. In turn it also gives the server the path of file where does it exist. I am following this approach because I want to give stream like experience without file size limitation. I am able to transmit any size of file at first time. Now when the second file is requested (e.g. I have sent file a,b,c,d to the user and user has received file a successfully and now he is requesting file b) the program faces deadlock at this situation. It is waiting for socket's input stream. I put breakpoint and tried to debug it but it is not going in FileThread's run method second time. I could not find out the mistake here. Basically I am making a LAN Messenger which works on LAN. I am using SWT as UI framework.

• Silverlight 4 Twitter Client - Part 2

  We will create a few classes now to help us with storing and retrieving user credentials, so that we don't ask for it every time we want to speak with Twitter for getting some information. Now the class to sorting out the credentials. We will have this class as a static so as to ensure one instance of the same. This class is mainly going to include a getter setter for username and password, a method to check if the user if logged in and another one to log out the user. You can get the code here. Now let us create another class to facilitate easy retrieval from twitter xml format results for any queries we make. This basically involves just creating a getter setter for all the values that you would like to retrieve from the xml document returned. You can get the format of the xml document from here. Now the main thing – running this application. This credentials stuff would only work, if the application is run out of the browser. So we need fiddle with a few Silverlioght project settings to enable this. Here is how:    Right click on Silverlight > properties then check the "Enable running application out of browser".    Then click on Out-Of-Browser settings and check "Require elevated trust…" option. That's it, all done to run. Now press F5 to run the application, fix the errors if any. Then once the application opens up in browser with the login page, right click and choose install.  Once you install, it would automatically run and you can login and can see that you are redirected to the Home page. Here are the files that are related to this posts. We will look at implementing the Home page, etc… in the next post.   Hi, I'm trying to analyze an enormous text file (1.6GB), whose data lines look like this: 20090118025859 -2.400000 78.100000 1023.200000 0.000000 20090118025900 -2.500000 78.100000 1023.200000 0.000000 20090118025901 -2.400000 78.100000 1023.200000 0.000000 I don't even know how many lines there are. But I'm trying to split the file by date. The left number is a time stamp (these lines are from 2009, January 18th). How can I split this file into pieces according to the date? Everything I know would be to grep file '20090118*' > data20090118.dat , but there sure is a way to do all the dates at once, right? The number of entries per date differ, so using split with a constant number won't work. Thanks in advance, Alex

• FormatDate in Display Item Form Webpart

  I've faced an issue that I wanted to display the date in the format of ('MMMM dd') that is retrieved from a sharepoint list in an arabic site collection. So, after googling this issue, I've found out that a possible solution to my poblem is using the function ddwrt:FormatDateTime that can be used as long as you'll include the following namespace xmlns:ddwrt="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebParts/v2/DataView/runtime" My purpose was solved by writing this line of code in my xsl code behind for the webpart : ddwrt:FormatDateTime(string(@StartDate),3073,'MMMM dd') but that worked only if the webpart is inserted into an English site . After trying to search but in vain, I started to use my guesses that ended up doing something like that: ddwrt:FormatDateTime(ddwrt:FormatDateTime(string(@StartDate),3073,'dd/MM/yyyy'), 3073, 'MMMM dd') And the cause of the problem was that sharepoint parses the date as 'MM/dd/yyyy' which I think could be related to server regional settings, so I had to force it to parse the date in arabic-Egypt format as 'dd/MM/yyyy' in order to get the correct 'Month Day' format as expected.

We had to find the top 5 donor per month and send out some awards. The SQL we came up with was clunky and had lots of limitation (can only do one year at a time), then switch the where clause and go again. Fast forward 8 years, I got a similar problem where we had to find the top 3 combination of 2 fields for every single day. • What does Enable/Disable mean in Bing's URL Normalization feature?

  I'm in Bing Webmaster Tools, under Index URL Normalization. Many parameters are listed in the table with 3 other columns: Status, Source, Date. The "Source" column says "Webmaster" where I have added parameters, and "Bing" where I assume the parameter has been auto-detected. "Date" is probably the last date it detected the parameter. I've tried searching the help files but I can't find what the Status column means. The top of the page says: This feature allows you to specify query parameters for Bing’s crawler to ignore. But it's not clear whether "Enable" or "Disable" is related to this, and if so what happens in each case. Does anyone know?

  Another common problem with external authentication is how to deal with sign in errors. In active federation like WS-Trust there are well defined SOAP faults to communicate problem to a client. But with web applications, the error information is typically generated and displayed on the external sign in page. The relying party does not know about the error, nor can it help the user in any way. The Access Control Service allows to post sign in errors to a specified page. You setup this page in the relying party registration. That means that whenever an error occurs in ACS, the error information gets packaged up as a JSON string and posted to the page specified. This way you get structued error information back into you application so you can display a friendlier error message or log the error. I added error page support to my ACS2 sample, which can be downloaded here. • Syncing objects to a remote server, and caching on local storage

  What's the best method of sycing objects (as JSON) to a remote server, with local caching? I have some objects that will pretty much just be plain-text with some extra meta-data. I was thinking of perhaps including a "last modified date" for both Local storage and Remote storage. This could then be used to determine which object is the most recent. For example, even though objects will be saved to both local and remote when they are saved, sometimes the user may not have internet access, or the server may be down, or any other number of things. In this case, the last modified date for remote storage would be reverted to its previous date. Local storage would remain as it is. At this point, the user could exit the application, and when they reload the application would then look at the last modified dates of the local and remote storages, and decide. Is there anything I'm missing with this? Is there a better method that I could use?

To add that missing data in my account I have written a short script which manually send all orders data for four days to GA account but what my concern is date : Those orders which already placed on different dates and , when if I run my script and so it will send my missing data with current date , which I do not want.   I am updating a site for a training company. Each course has its own page, on which the dates of upcoming courses are listed. At present, the customer manually fills in a booking form with all the relevant information, including the course name, venue, and dates. What I would like to implement is a system whereby, when the user clicks the relevant date, the booking form (which is on a separate page) is automatically populated with the course name and date. Is that possible? Would it be simpler to have a form on each page and then have just the date and venue automatically filled in on click?

  Hello! I have a problem doing commit with sharpsvn. Now i´m adding all the files of my working copy (if the file is added throws an exception), and after it i do commit. It works but it trows exceptions. There is some way to get the status of the repository before do add() and only add the new files or the files who are changed? And if i delete one file or folder on my working copy , How can i delete these files or folder on the repository?
