  • vihostupdate, many patches at once

    Hi, i have ESXi 4.0 installed so i want to install all patch bundles available using vihostupdate.pl script from vm perl sdk. I can install it by typing: vihostupdate.pl -server 192.168.1.177 -b "C:\Documents and Settings\dawids\Pulpit\patche\ESXi-4.0.0-update01.zip" -i then patch 2,3 etc. But I would like to install them all at once, is there such possibility? Maybe there is possible to use vihostupdate patch1 then vihostupdate patch2... and after all patching reboot instead rebooting after 1 patch bundle. How is it working?

  • Can I use multiple email servers at once?

    I was wondering: Can you use multiple email servers at once? In this case, I was going to add all the Google Apps MX records then add the MX records of another email server. My goal here is to only use the somewhat expensive Google Apps for only important email addresses (eg all the employees), then use the other cheap email server for other email addresses like webmaster and some other unimportant but needed emails. My thought is that a mail message would try the first 5 Google Apps mail servers, fail, then go to mine and succeed. Would this work? If not, are there any other options?

  • Find and Replace several several different values all at once

    I have a file with multiple instances of Text_1 and Text1 and I need to replace both those strings with Text_A and TextB respectively. Currently I'm doing two Find and Replace functions on each file one that finds Text_1 and replaces it with Text_A and the other that finds Text1 and replaces it with TextB. Is there any way to do this all at once instead of having to run "Find and Replace" twice? I am using Dreamweaver CS3, but I also have Notepad++, regular Notepad, OO Writer, MS Word if those will be easier. Ideally I could do this in Dreamweaver or Notepad++ but I'm open to downloading something else to get the job done. I'd prefer not to have to do any command line stuff or create a batch file (while I'm aware of it, I don't understand it really). Edit: In case the above description isn't clear, let me explain it this way... I want to run Find & Replace 1 time in 1 document and I want it to do ALL of the following during that one Find & Replace instance: Find: Text_1 and Replace with: Text_A Find: Text1 and Replace with: TextB I am not trying to do a Find and Replace across several documents.

  • UAC being turned off once a day on Windows 7

    I have strange problem on my HP laptop. This began to happen recently. Whenever I start my machine, Windows 7 Action Center displays the following warning: You need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off. Actually, this does not happen if it happened once on a specific day. For example, when I start the machine in the morning, it shows up; but it never shows up in the subsequent restarts within that day. On the next day, the same thing happens again. I never disable UAC, but obviously some rootkit or virus causes this. As soon as I get this warning, I head for the UAC settings, and re-enable UAC to dismiss this warning. This is a bothersome situation as I can't fix it. First, I have run a full scan on the computer for any probable virus and malware/rootkit activity, but TrendMicro OfficeScan said that no viruses have been found. I went to an old Restore Point using Windows System Restore, but the problem was not solved. What I have tried so far (which couldn't find the rootkit): TrendMicro OfficeScan Antivirus AVAST Malwarebytes' Anti-malware Ad-Aware Vipre Antivirus GMER TDSSKiller (Kaspersky Labs) HiJackThis RegRuns UnHackMe SuperAntiSpyware Portable Tizer Rootkit Razor (*) Sophos Anti-Rootkit SpyHunter 4 There are no other strange activities on the machine. 8204 bytes As suggested in this very similar question, I have run full scans (+boot time scans) with RegRun and UnHackMe, but they also did not find anything. I have carefully examined all entries in the Event Viewer, but there's nothing wrong. Now I know that there is a hidden trojan (rootkit) on my machine which seems to disguise itself quite successfully. Note that I don't have the chance to remove the HDD, or reinstall the OS as this is a work machine subjected to certain IT policies on a company domain. Despite all my attempts, the problem still remains. I strictly need a to-the-point method or a pukka rootkit remover to remove whatever it is. I don't want to monkey with the system settings, i.e. disabling auto runs one by one, messing the registry, etc. EDIT 2: I have found an article which is closely related to my trouble: Malware can turn off UAC in Windows 7; “By design” says Microsoft.   • Windows Explorer slow to open networked computer, fast to navigate once opened

    I open Windows Explorer and enter an IP for a computer on my home network (\\192.168.1.101). It takes 30 seconds or more to present a list of the shared folders. It does not appear to be an initial handshaking/authentication thing; even if I allow the view to load and then immediately load the same again, it is always slow. Once they appear, navigating through folders and opening files is fast. Also, navigating directly to a folder (\\192.168.1.101\My Music) is fast, even if it's the first connection since a restart. Using \\computerName instead of the IP address gives exactly the same results. Pings return in 1ms. net view \\computerName (or \ipAddress) returns the list of shared folders fast. This makes me suspect an Explorer issue rather than a network issue. Suspecting that the remote computer was being automatically indexed or something, I went into Tools-Folder Options-View and unchecked "Automatically search for network folders and printers," but that made no difference. De-selecting the "Folders" icon near the address bar makes no difference. Adding the IP address and computer name to the hosts file makes no difference. Both computers involved are laptops running Windows XP. Both have WiFi and cable adapters. Mine is not connected via cable. The result is the same whether the target is plugged in to the cable or not (although the IP address changes - 192.168.1.101 over cable, 192.168.1.103 over WiFi.) We are using DHCP assigned by the router.

Note: 3<=n<1e6 and the number will range from 1 to 2e9 Memory limits: 1000KB , this implies that we can't store the whole sequence. Method I have tried(Memory limit exceed): I initialize a tree, and when read in one number I try to remove it from the tree, if the remove returns false(not found), I add it to the tree. Finally, the tree has the three numbers. It works, but is Memory limit exceed. I know how to find one or two such number(s) using bit manipulation. So I wonder if we can find three using the same method(or some method similar)? Method to find one/two number(s) appeared only once: If there is one number appeared only once, we can apply XOR to the sequence to find it. If there are two, we can first apply XOR to the sequence, then separate the sequence into 2 parts by one bit of the result that is 1, and again apply XOR to the 2 parts, and we will find the answer.

  • Outlook 2010 on WinXP runs once then refuses to run again until reboot

    Since I installed Outlook 2010 on a new machine (WinXP Pro SP3) a couple months back I have had an issue that is quite annoying: If I close Outlook then attempt to restart it I get a small pop-up saying only: "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook". I found one workaround, but not a terribly practical one: reboot. If I reboot then launch Outlook, it opens fine. Here is what I know: Since I can run Outlook just fine after a reboot, I do not see that a system restore, an OS reinstall, or the like would help. I tried "outlook.exe /resetnavpane" and "outlook.exe /safe" but those give the same error. There are no entries in the event log. There is no instance of Outlook appearing in the process list once I close the program, so it does not seem to be an alias for "outlook is already running". As far as I have found, my situation is unique among reports of similar incidents: I have uncovered no other reports saying Outlook would run fine the first launch or that a reboot would again allow it to run. Suggestions?

  • Write once, read many (WORM) using Linux file system

    I have a requirement to write files to a Linux file system that can not be subsequently overwritten, appended to, updated in any way, or deleted. Not by a sudo-er, root, or anybody. I am attempting to meet the requirements of the financial services regulations for recordkeeping, FINRA 17A-4, which basically requires that electronic documents are written to WORM (write once, read many) devices. I would very much like to avoid having to use DVDs or expensive EMC Centera devices. Is there a Linux file system, or can SELinux support the requirement for files to be made complete immutable immediately (or at least soon) after write? Or is anybody aware of a way I could enforce this on an existing file system using Linux permissions, etc? I understand that I can set readonly permissions, and the immutable attribute. But of course I expect that a root user would be able to unset those. I considered storing data to small volumes that are unmounted and then remounted read-only, but then I think that root could still unmount and remount as writable again. I'm looking for any smart ideas, and worst case scenario I'm willing to do a little coding to 'enhance' an existing file system to provide this. Assuming there is a file system that is a good starting point. And put in place a carefully configured Linux server to act as this type of network storage device, doing nothing else. After all of that, encryption on the files would be useful too!

  • Cause of laptop only booting once every 3-10 times

    My 3-year old Asus EEE laptop has been working flawlessly in the past, but in the last week it has started behaving oddly. When I boot, one of the following happens: Screen remains totally black. Absolutely nothing comes up. I need to retry booting. (Happens 70% of the time). Laptop starts regular boot. However, somewhere during the boot process it goes black and I need to retry (20% of the time). Screen turning black is more likely when I move the laptop around during boot. Laptop boots properly. Once booted, all is fine. But I'm afraid to turn it off and have been keeping the laptop running till the night. Additional details: All normal lights light up when I boot; whichever of the scenarios goes down. There are no odd sounds or beeps, whichever of the scenarios goes down. I thought it might be the SSD drive that is dying, but it does not use SMART and it appears difficult to troubleshoot. I tried booting with and without the battery, but the scenarios are identical. Before completely investigating the hard drive, I'd like to hear opinions regarding the cause of this problem. Is this most likely the hard drive, or could there be another cause for these symptoms?   • Suspend only works once after full power cycle with ASUS P7P55D-E Pro

    This one is strange. I can't seem to get suspend working more than once per power cycle. When I say "power cycle," I mean the only way to get one proper suspend is to cut power from the power supply and boot back up cold. After the proper suspend, I get a failed suspend, and after all reboots or cold boots until power is cut, suspends fail. I'm using an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro with a Sandy Bridge Core i7, running on Ubuntu Precise repositories and UEFI. I'm running Nouveau from repository (And Gallium3d compiled from git, but that does not come into this since I can avoid OpenGL and it still happens the same way) with a GTX 285 (nv50.) I had to build a custom kernel (3.3) in order for ACPI 5.0 to be supported and make suspend work at all. I compiled it using the latest Ubuntu kernel's config file with the additional entries set to the default options. All packages are up to date. I know these are relatively exotic settings, but I'm hoping maybe I can get some help anyways. The behavior when suspend fails is strange. Upon a proper suspend, all fans turn off and the only led left on, the power led, is blinking. Upon a failed suspend, 1. USB power remains. 2. The power led stays on solid. 3. All fans seem to still be on. 4. I can hear what I believe is the primary harddrive shutting off. 5. Despite USB power remaining, the USB powered keyboard does not respond to anything, and the indicator leds on it shut off. Pressing the power button does nothing, and of course I have not to date found a way to wake it up. When trouble shooting the first round of issues I got with suspend not too long ago, I ended up building a list of modules to disable upon sleeping. Here's my config file for them: In /etc/pm/config.d/01modules: SUSPEND_MODULES="uhci_hd ehci_hd button" All of my other pm configuration files are stock.   • Change NSButton Background Image more than once per second

    I am currently working with the iPhone SDK. I have a NSTimer that changes the background image of a NSButton. Once this is complete, it will trigger the same action again (reset the NSTimer) for a predetermined number of times. My problem is that if my NSTimer is set to execute more than once per second. (0.75, say) The background image wont change. I am using NSLog to check that the event fires. But the button image will just remain in its original state. Is there any way to change the background image more often than once per second? Thanks.

It's default behavior is to chunk the lines and execute the command once, passing multiple lines to each instance. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xargs: find /path -type f -print0 | xargs -0 rm In this example, find feeds the input of xargs with a long list of file names. xargs then splits this list into sublists and calls rm once for every sublist. This is more efficient than this functionally equivalent version: find /path -type f -exec rm '{}' \; I know that find has the "exec" flag. I am just quoting an illustrative example from another resource.

    being new to php and coming from asp.net, i would like to know if there is an equivalent of IsPostBack, which calls a function or a method only once, once the user is logged in. i have a facebook application, in which once the user authorizes the application it should enter his details in the database. this basic stuff should have been done using the post-authorize callback url which facebook pings when the user first authorizes the app, but somehow that is not working; hence i have to do it manually. the issue is that, since i'm checking whether the user exists or not in index.php, i would not like index.php to run this code repeatedly for the same user when the user goes to the homepage every time. any ideas?

  • how to create a backup of a file once the current one is changed using php

    I'm playing around with file info in php and i'm wondering if its possible to do the following: once a file is changed get the contents of the file, then put the contents of the file into another file. kinda like a "backup system" so once you make a change to the file a duplicate one is created, each change to the original file overwrites the duplicate one. i'm trying to do this with storing the time in the db, is this possible? i don't know what there is to test against? more clearly, i would like to do the following: execute a script once a specifeced file is changed on the server

I would like the selector to be fired only once. I have tried to prevent further selectors being fired by setting the gesture recognizer's enabled property to Note the first time the selector is fired, but this only takes effect after the selector is fired again.     I have a simple small question which someone who knows will be able to answer easily, I searched google but couldn't find the answer. There are many programs running at once on a computer, and my question is: when a program loads a DLL, does it actually load the DLL file or does it find the memory in which the DLL is already loaded? For example, is ws2_32.dll (winsock 2) loaded for every program that uses winsock, or is it loaded once and all programs that use it use the same memory addresses to call the functions?

We take advantage of the built in milestones to help us manage our timelines better, but sometimes priorities shift and milestones need to be rearranged. During this time we use the "change several bugs at once" feature to move them around, but the result is a ton of bugspam for everyone involved (except the person actually doing the changing, of course). Is there any way to easily turn off emails if many bugs are being changed at once?
