• NFS automounts hang

  Hi, I have been mounting NFS shares on my x86 Ubuntu with NIS/am-utils fine for a long time, but today my system got into a state where it could no longer access automounted directories and instead frequently got hung up trying to access them, returning either "Input/output error" or "Permission denied" (almost randomly), as well as "stale file handle." I can, however, manually mount that share fine. Restarting am-utils doesn't help get my system out of its funk; is there any other way of getting my system un-stuck?

• cron not even sending local mail to /var/mail/

  I'm using a very plain Ubuntu Server 9.04, and cron isn't delivering any mail to my /var/mail/USER (the file hasn't even been created). Here's my full crontab: # m h dom mon dow command 15 * * * * $HOME/.cron/sync-bookmarks.bash If I add # m h dom mon dow command 15 * * * * $HOME/.cron/sync-bookmarks.bash >& /tmp/log then I see the stdout and stderr in /tmp/log. I'm not (yet) interested in actual remote email delivery, just local delivery to the mail spool file. Why isn't mail working? Thanks in advance for any tips.

• Is that possible to route all mails sent to a mailbox to another server's mailbox

  I have a Linux server that has local mail service. There are few user accounts on this server. User may send the mail to each other but that only restrict to LAN environment only. For example, I may # mail user1 to send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status. I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.

• Nginx try_files or else continue matching against locations?

  I'm wondering whether this is possible with Nginx: I just added a directory with a bunch of HTML files (foo.html, bar.html) that I'd like to serve with /foo, /bar, etc. If the URL doesn't match up with a file name I'd like to fall back to whatever the next best matching location would be. The problem is that the first regex now eats up the URLs that would've gone to other locations, as per the documented behavior of location. One approach is to maintain the full explicit list of files in the first location block, but this list is quite large and is always changing. Is there a way to check to see if the file exists first, and if not, then continue with what would've been the next-best location match? I took stabs using try_files (including using a @fallback and nesting locations in there) but I don't think it's capable of doing this. However I thought I'd ask here in case I'm missing something. (Or maybe there's another better approach altogether.)

• Is there any SMS/MMS server for LAN environment

  I am looking for a solution to send SMS/MMS message to mobile device from desktop or browser in LAN environment. As such, it is most probably using TCP/IP protocol to transmit request/response. The server may attach to a GSM device with SIM card attached. An server application would then start accept the request from any LAN client and convey the SMS/MMS to one or more recipients. The server may log all requests for further traffic analysis in later stage. Is there any solution that able to perform what I describe here. Please advice.

• Hylafax: Encounter "No font metric information" when try to send a fax

  I am using Hylafax 6.0.5 on Fedora 13 x86_64. As there are no rpm package available for Fedora 13, I use the source tar ball to install hylafax myself. Everything seems fine during compile and install. I try to send a fax with sendfax and encounter error: # sendfax -n -d <fax-number> /etc/passwd /usr/local/sbin/textfmt: No font metric information found for "Courier-Bold". I have ghostscript-fonts installed too. I can't find hyla.conf in path /etc/hylafax. There is no /etc/hylafax path in my file system. • Google Reader offline sync (Gears) not syncing, stuck at 0%

  I'm using Google Chrome, and for some reason starting over the weekend or Friday, I haven't been able to get Google Reader to sync for offline reading. When I hit the sync button, it just starts spinning and says: "Status: Downloading 2000 items...0% completed. Please wait..." There's no CPU, network, or disk activity on my machine, and it remains in this state indefinitely. I tried going to Chrome Settings, uninstalling Reader, navigating to Reader, and reinstalling Reader as a Gears app, to no avail. Any hints? Thanks in advance.

• How to prevent mod_proxy from rewriting redirects into absolute URLs?

  I have: nginx (port 80) reverse-proxying to apache2 (port 88) reverse-proxying to a web app (port 5001). However, when the web app responds with a redirect like Location: /foo, apache2 rewrites this into Location: http://host.com:88/sub/foo, even though port 88 is publicly inaccessible. I'd like it to just redirect to the relative URL Location: /sub/foo. Any ideas?   I am using Linux/Fedora's sendmail as my mail server. The server do not has a public domain name. It connect to Internet via dial-up. There are few users in the server. I have successfully configure my sendmail to relay mail to public host (via smart_host): # mail <user>@gmail.com [email protected] receive mail from this private host. However, if I send a mail to local user (without domain name): # mail <user> All mails are deliver to my server's mail spooler (/var/spool/mail). I wish all mails send to local user may relay to a public domain that I have registered, is that possible to do so with sendmail? mail user1 will send mail to [email protected] mail user2 will send mail to [email protected]

• Recover open but deleted file on Linux using ln instead of cp

  Say I have a file that's downloading (from a source that's hard to re-download from), but accidentally deleted from the filesystem namespace (/tmp/blah), and I'd like to recover this file. Normally I could just cp /proc/$PID/fd/$FD /tmp/blah, but in this case that would only get me a partial snapshot, since the file is still downloading. Furthermore, once the download completes, the downloading process (e.g. Chrome) will close the FD. Any way to recover by inode/create a hard link? Any other solutions? If it makes any difference, I'm mainly concerned with ext4. Thanks in advance.

  I wanted to profile the memory usage of a script. But it seems the other columns changed by relatively negligible amounts - how is this possible? Am I interpreting this wrong, or is some memory just not being accounted for in this output?

  Hi everyone, I assume those who are reading this page know what vimwiki and dropbox.com are and what they are for, so I might directly go into my confusion. The common way of setting a PRIVATE vimwiki on dropbox is simply let your vimwiki directories be under Dropbox folder (but not Dropbox/Public/ because it would be PUBLIC). Dropbox allows directly viewing html with dropbox.com/* url: for example a index.html can be accessed by url https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/Wiki/html/index.html?w=bfead71a, being added after the file name a specified string, ?w=bfead71a. Hence, if inside index.html there is reference to A.html, which is located in the same folder index.html is in, it has to be accessed using some url like https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/Wiki/html/index.html?w=SPECIFIED_STRING. But it is seemingly impossible to hack vimwiki in order to make the hrefs in converted htmls corrected in this way. Is there some approach that can resolve this problem? I hope I make myself clear. • How can I make the NetworkManager work?

  I am running a version of RHCE6 on my laptop, and lately I've been trying various stuff about network configuration through command line. Last night, I tried removing the NetworkManager using "yum remove NetworkManager" from the system, so that I could have more control of the network through the command line. But the result is, I didn't manage to configure the wireless connection through wpa_supplicant, and I need wireless connection during my travel to another place. So I need the wireless function back as soon as possible. I typed " yum install NetworkManager", some version installed, but I don't get to have an icon on the taskbar, and of course, the network doesn't work. The package I previously removed(about 24MB) was much larger that the one I just installed(about 2MB), so I think some dependencies must be missing. How could I install all these dependencies? Please help!

• Designing business objects, and gui actions

  Developing a product ordering system using Java SE 6. The previous implementations used combo boxes, text fields, and check boxes. Preforming validation on action events from the GUI. The validation includes limiting existing combo boxes items, or even availability. The issue in the old system was that the action was received and all rules were applied to the entire business object. This resulted in a huge event change as options were changed multiple times. To be honest I have no idea how an infinite loop wasn't produced. Through the next iteration I stepped in and attempted to limit the chaos by controlling the order in which the selections could be made. Making configuration of BO's a top down approach. I implemented custom box models, action events, beans/binding, and an MVC pattern. However I still am unable to fully isolate action even chains. I'm thinking that I've approached the whole concept backwards in an attempt to stay closest to what was already in place. So the question becomes what do I design instead? I'm currently considering an implementation of Interfaces, Beans, Property Change Listeners to manage the back and forth. Other thoughts were validation exceptions, dynamic proxies.... I'm sure there are a ton of different ways. To say that one way is right is crazy, and I'm sure it will take a blending of multiple patterns. My knowledge of swing/awt validation is limited, previously I did backend logic only. Other considerations are were some sort of binding(jgoodies or otherwise) to directly bind GUI state to BO's.

  I'm trying to fuzz a server using the Sulley fuzzing framework. I observe the following stream in Wireshark. The error talks about a problem with JSON parsing, however, when I try the same HTTP POST request using Google Chrome's Postman extension, it succeeds. • How to install wkhtmltopdf on a linux based web server

  I have tried in all ways to get wkhtmltopdf installed on our web server but unfortunately it is not getting installed. I cannot access user/bin folder as stated in a tutorial on installation. On the server in public_html folder there is a sub folder _vti_bin, I copied the file wkhtmltopdf-i386 from wkhtmltopdf-0.9.1-static-i386, but I am not able to execute it. How to install wkhtmltopdf on (shared hosting) web server and get it working?

• Couldn't attachto Firefox 3.x browser by using Browser.AttachTo<FireFox>method in WatiN 2.0 RC1

  I am using HTTPWatch automation API to launch a new Firefox instance like that: HttpWatch.Controller ct = new HttpWatch.Controller(); HttpWatch.Plugin plugin = ct.FireFox.New(""); plugin.GotoURL("http://www.google.com"); These codes could start a Firefox browser successfully. Then I want to control the browser in WatiN 2.0: FireFox ff = Browser.AttachTo<FireFox>(Find.ByTitle("Google")); WatiN could not find Firefox window (JSSH plugin has been added in Firefox). But the same test on IE 7 is ok. I even tried to open a Firefox window manually and visit google.com page. WaitN in IE7 could attach to the browser, but Firefox failed. Is there anything wrong with my codes? Or any other advice? Thanks in advance!   Hi All, I'm currently struggling with this "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute" issue. I have searched about this error message, and it's all related to the foreach statement. I do have the some foreach statements, but they are just simply representing the data. I did not using any remove or add inside the foreach statement. NOTE: The error randomly happens (about 4-5 times a day). The application is the MVC website. There are about 5 users operate this applications (about 150 orders a day). Could it be some another users modified the collection, and then occur this error? I have log4net setup and the settings can be found here Make sure that the controller has a parameterless public constructor I do have parameterless public constructor in AdminProductController Does anyone know why this happen and how to resolve this issue? A friend (Oskar) mentioned that "Theory: Maybe the problem is that your configuration and session factory is initialized on the first request after application restart. If a second request comes in before the first request is finished, maybe it will also try to initialize and then triggering this problem somehow." Many thanks.
