  • Access modifiers in Object-Oriented Programming

    - by Imran
    I don't understand Access Modifiers in OOP. Why do we make for example in Java instance variables private and then use public getter and setter methods to access them? I mean what's the reasoning/logic behind this? You still get to the instance variable but why use setter and getter methods when you can just make your variables public? please excuse my ignorance as I am simply trying to understand why? Thank you in advance. ;-)

  • How to write a cctor and op= for a factory class with ptr to abstract member field?

    - by Kache4
    I'm extracting files from zip and rar archives into raw buffers. I created the following to wrap minizip and unrarlib: Archive.hpp #include "ArchiveBase.hpp" #include "ArchiveDerived.hpp" class Archive { public: Archive(string path) { /* logic here to determine type */ switch(type) { case RAR: archive_ = new ArchiveRar(path); break; case ZIP: archive_ = new ArchiveZip(path); break; case UNKNOWN_ARCHIVE: throw; break; } } Archive(Archive& other) { archive_ = // how do I copy an abstract class? } ~Archive() { delete archive_; } void passThrough(ArchiveBase::Data& data) { archive_->passThrough(data); } Archive& operator = (Archive& other) { if (this == &other) return *this; ArchiveBase* newArchive = // can't instantiate.... delete archive_; archive_ = newArchive; return *this; } private: ArchiveBase* archive_; } ArchiveBase.hpp class ArchiveBase { public: // Is there any way to put this struct in Archive instead, // so that outside classes instantiating one could use // Archive::Data instead of ArchiveBase::Data? struct Data { int field; }; virtual void passThrough(Data& data) = 0; /* more methods */ } ArchiveDerived.hpp "Derived" being "Zip" or "Rar" #include "ArchiveBase.hpp" class ArchiveDerived : public ArchiveBase { public: ArchiveDerived(string path); void passThrough(ArchiveBase::Data& data); private: /* fields needed by minizip/unrarlib */ // example zip: unzFile zipFile_; // example rar: RARHANDLE rarFile_; } ArchiveDerived.cpp #include "ArchiveDerived.hpp" ArchiveDerived::ArchiveDerived(string path) { //implement } ArchiveDerived::passThrough(ArchiveBase::Data& data) { //implement } Somebody had suggested I use this design so that I could do: Archive archiveFile(pathToZipOrRar); archiveFile.passThrough(extractParams); // yay polymorphism! How do I write a cctor for Archive? What about op= for Archive? What can I do about "renaming" ArchiveBase::Data to Archive::Data? (Both minizip and unrarlib use such structs for input and output. Data is generic for Zip & Rar and later is used to create the respective library's struct.)

  • chaining array of tasks with continuation

    - by Andrei Cristof
    I have a Task structure that is a little bit complex(for me at least). The structure is: (where T = Task) T1, T2, T3... Tn. There's an array (a list of files), and the T's represent tasks created for each file. Each T has always two subtasks that it must complete or fail: Tn.1, Tn.2 - download and install. For each download (Tn.1) there are always two subtasks to try, download from two paths(Tn.1.1, Tn.1.2). Execution would be: First, download file: Tn1.1. If Tn.1.1 fails, then Tn.1.2 executes. If either from download tasks returns OK - execute Tn.2. If Tn.2 executed or failed - go to next Tn. I figured the first thing to do, was to write all this structure with jagged arrays: private void CreateTasks() { //main array Task<int>[][][] mainTask = new Task<int>[_queuedApps.Count][][]; for (int i = 0; i < mainTask.Length; i++) { Task<int>[][] arr = GenerateOperationTasks(); mainTask[i] = arr; } } private Task<int>[][] GenerateOperationTasks() { //two download tasks Task<int>[] downloadTasks = new Task<int>[2]; downloadTasks[0] = new Task<int>(() => { return 0; }); downloadTasks[1] = new Task<int>(() => { return 0; }); //one installation task Task<int>[] installTask = new Task<int>[1] { new Task<int>(() => { return 0; }) }; //operations Task is jagged - keeps tasks above Task<int>[][] operationTasks = new Task<int>[2][]; operationTasks[0] = downloadTasks; operationTasks[1] = installTask; return operationTasks; } So now I got my mainTask array of tasks, containing nicely ordered tasks just as described above. However after reading the docs on ContinuationTasks, I realise this does not help me since I must call e.g. Task.ContinueWith(Task2). I'm stumped about doing this on my mainTask array. I can't write mainTask[0].ContinueWith(mainTask[1]) because I dont know the size of the array. If I could somehow reference the next task in the array (but without knowing its index), but cant figure out how. Any ideas? Thank you very much for your help. Regards,

  • Where to store a DataSource resource in a Java web app?

    - by Slavko
    This is a rookie question. What's the best place to put @Resource private DataSource ds; in a web application? Do I put it in a servlet, context listener or maybe there's a better place for it? Also, do I create a new Connection object in my doGet()/doPost() or should I do it somewhere else? What's the best practice for stuff like this? Thank you!

  • Auto showing tips and closing popup when lost focus

    - by darkwindkey
    I have two elements: a TextBox, and a Popup, where the popup contains a tree view to show some tips according to text of TextBox. When the textBox got the KeyDown Event, the KeyDown directly executes pup.IsOpen=true to show the popup tips. However, I also want to show the popup tips when the mouse on clicking the TextBox, and auto closing the popups when the mouse click on any place (besides the TextBox and the TreeView in Popup). I have tried some cases but do not works fine. Case1: Add pup.IsOpen=true; in TextBox.PreviewMouseUp, the popup will stay opening, even if I click any other place in the window. Case2: Add pup.IsOpen=true in TextBox.PreviewMouseDown, the popup tips only shows on keep clicking the Mouse. Case3: Using CheckBox with Binding IsChecked to Popup.IsOpen works fine. but the tips is listed according to the content of the TextBox, therefore the checkbox is not editable for user... Here is my code now: <Window x:Class="popUpTesting.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <Grid> <TextBox Name="SearchBox" HorizontalAlignment="Center" TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="TextBox" VerticalAlignment="Center" KeyDown="SearchBox_KeyDown" PreviewMouseUp="SearchBox_PreviewMouseUp" /> <Popup Placement="Bottom" AllowsTransparency="True" PopupAnimation="Fade" StaysOpen="false" x:Name="pup" PlacementTarget="{Binding ElementName=SearchBox}" IsOpen="False" > <Grid> <TreeView HorizontalAlignment="Left" Height="200" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="200"> <TreeViewItem Header="A"> <TreeViewItem Header="A1"/> </TreeViewItem> <TreeViewItem Header="B"></TreeViewItem> <TreeViewItem Header="C"></TreeViewItem> <TreeViewItem Header="D"></TreeViewItem> </TreeView> </Grid> </Popup> </Grid> </Window> and the event functions: private void SearchBox_KeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e) { pup.IsOpen = true; } private void SearchBox_PreviewMouseUp(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { pup.IsOpen = true; }

  • Some more multitasking java issues

    - by owca
    I had a task to write simple game simulating two players picking up 1-3 matches one after another until the pile is gone. I managed to do it for computer choosing random value of matches but now I'd like to go further and allow humans to play the game. Here's what I already have : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/200660/ Class Player is a computer player, and PlayerMan should be human being. Problem is, that thread of PlayerMan should wait until proper value of matches is given but I cannot make it work this way. When I type the values it sometimes catches them and decrease amount of matches but that's not exactly what I was up to :) Logics is : I check the value of current player. If it corresponds to this of the thread currently active I use scanner to catch the amount of matches. Else I wait one second (I know it's kinda harsh solution, but I have no other idea how to do it). Class Shared keeps the value of current player, and also amount of matches. By the way, is there any way I can make Player and Shared attributes private instead of public and still make the code work ? CONSOLE and INPUT-DIALOG is just for choosing way of inserting values. class PlayerMan extends Player{ static final int CONSOLE=0; static final int INPUT_DIALOG=1; private int input; public PlayerMan(String name, Shared data, int c){ super(name, data); input = c; } @Override public void run(){ Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in); int n = 0; System.out.println("Matches on table: "+data.matchesAmount); System.out.println("which: "+data.which); System.out.println("number: "+number); while(data.matchesAmount != 0){ if(number == data.which){ System.out.println("Choose amount of matches (from 1 to 3): "); n = scanner.nextInt(); if(data.matchesAmount == 1){ System.out.println("There's only 1 match left !"); while(n != 1){ n = scanner.nextInt(); } } else{ do{ n = scanner.nextInt(); } while(n <= 1 && n >= 3); } data.matchesAmount = data.matchesAmount - n; System.out.println(" "+ name+" takes "+n+" matches."); if(number != 0){ data.which = 0; } else{ data.which = 1; } } else{ try { Thread.sleep(1000); } catch(InterruptedException exc) { System.out.println("End of thread."); return; } } System.out.println("Matches on table: "+data.matchesAmount); } if(data.matchesAmount == 0){ System.out.println("Winner is player: "+name); stop(); } } }

  • How can I include additional markup within a 'Content' inner property of an ASP.Net WebControl?

    - by GenericTypeTea
    I've searched the site and I cannot find a solution for my problem, so apologies if it's already been answered (I'm sure someone must have asked this before). I have written a jQuery Popup window that I've packaged up as a WebControl and IScriptControl. The last step is to be able to write the markup within the tags of my control. I've used the InnerProperty attribute a few times, but only for including lists of strongly typed classes. Here's my property on the WebControl: [PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] [DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Content)] public something??? Content { get { if (_content == null) { _content = new something???(); } return _content; } } private something??? _content; Here's the HTML Markup of what I'm after: <ctr:WebPopup runat="server" ID="win_Test" Hidden="false" Width="100px" Height="100px" Modal="true" WindowCaption="Test Window" CssClass="window"> <Content> <div style="display:none;"> <asp:Button runat="server" ID="Button1" OnClick="Button1_Click" /> </div> <%--Etc--%> <%--Etc--%> </Content> </ctr:WebPopup> Unfortunately I don't know what type my Content property should be. I basically need to replicate the UpdatePanel's ContentTemplate. EDIT: So the following allows a Template container to be automatically created, but no controls show up, what's wrong with what I'm doing? [PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] [DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Content)] public ITemplate Content { get { return _content; } set { _content = value; } } private ITemplate _content; EDIT2: Overriding the CreateChildControls allows the controls within the ITemplate to be rendered: protected override void CreateChildControls() { if (this.Content != null) { this.Controls.Clear(); this.Content.InstantiateIn(this); } base.CreateChildControls(); } Unfortunately I cannot now access the controls within the ITemplate from the codebehind file on the file. I.e. if I put a button within my mark as so: <ctr:WebPopup runat="server" ID="win_StatusFilter"> <Content> <asp:Button runat="server" ID="btn_Test" Text="Cannot access this from code behind?" /> </Content> </ctr:WebPopup> I then cannot access btn_Test from the code behind: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { btn_Test.Text = "btn_Test is not present in Intellisense and is not accessible to the page. It does, however, render correctly."; }

  • How can I use geoalchemy with elixir autoload tables?

    - by Dan Ellis
    I'm using geoalchemy and autoloaded tables, but I'd like to use Elixir, because it has a nicer query syntax. Does anyone know how to get them to work together? I did get it working with this code -- http://pastie.textmate.org/private/y3biyvosuejkrtxbpdv1a -- but that still gives the ugly warning about not recognising the geometry column when the table is reflected. Ideally, what I'd like to do is to get SQLAlchemy's own table reflection to recognise the geometry columns. How would I plumb them together?

  • How can I call VC# webservice methods without ArgumentException?

    - by Zarius
    Currently, I'm trying to write a small tray application that will show the status and provide control of a server-side application exposed over webservice. The webservice only has 3 operations: start, stop and status. When I call any of these operations in code, they throw an ArgumentException citing "An item with the same key has already been added". I am compiling the webservice on Visual C# Express 2008, and .NET 3.5. The Code: private TelnetConnClient Conn { get { return new TelnetConnClient(); } } private bool Connected //call webservice operations { get { return Conn.Status(); } set { if(value) Conn.Start(); else Conn.Stop(); } } The Stacktrace: A first chance exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' occurred in mscorlib.dll at System.ThrowHelper.ThrowArgumentException(ExceptionResource resource) at System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.Insert(TKey key, TValue value, Boolean add) at System.ServiceModel.TransactionFlowAttribute.ApplyBehavior(OperationDescription description, BindingParameterCollection parameters) at System.ServiceModel.TransactionFlowAttribute.System.ServiceModel.Description.IOperationBehavior.AddBindingParameters(OperationDescription description, BindingParameterCollection parameters) at System.ServiceModel.Description.DispatcherBuilder.AddBindingParameters(ServiceEndpoint endpoint, BindingParameterCollection parameters) at System.ServiceModel.Description.DispatcherBuilder.BuildProxyBehavior(ServiceEndpoint serviceEndpoint, BindingParameterCollection& parameters) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannelFactory.BuildChannelFactory(ServiceEndpoint serviceEndpoint) at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory.CreateFactory() at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory.OnOpening() at System.ServiceModel.Channels.CommunicationObject.Open(TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory.EnsureOpened() at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory`1.CreateChannel(EndpointAddress address, Uri via) at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory`1.CreateChannel() at System.ServiceModel.ClientBase`1.CreateChannel() at System.ServiceModel.ClientBase`1.CreateChannelInternal() at System.ServiceModel.ClientBase`1.get_Channel() at KordiaConnect.ferries.TelnetConnClient.Start() in C:\My Dropbox\Coding\RTF\KordiaConnect\KordiaConnect\Service References\ferries\Reference.cs:line 86 at coldshark.ferries.Main.set_Connected(Boolean value) in C:\My Dropbox\Coding\RTF\KordiaConnect\KordiaConnect\Main.cs:line 22 at coldshark.ferries.Main.<.ctor>b__0(Object sender, EventArgs e) in C:\My Dropbox\Coding\RTF\KordiaConnect\KordiaConnect\Main.cs:line 43 at System.Windows.Forms.NotifyIcon.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.NotifyIcon.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button) at System.Windows.Forms.NotifyIcon.WndProc(Message& msg) at System.Windows.Forms.NotifyIcon.NotifyIconNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.DebuggableCallback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) at System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.PeekMessage(MSG& msg, HandleRef hwnd, Int32 msgMin, Int32 msgMax, Int32 remove) at System.Windows.Forms.Application.ComponentManager.System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.IMsoComponentManager.FPushMessageLoop(Int32 dwComponentID, Int32 reason, Int32 pvLoopData) at System.Windows.Forms.Application.ThreadContext.RunMessageLoopInner(Int32 reason, ApplicationContext context) at System.Windows.Forms.Application.ThreadContext.RunMessageLoop(Int32 reason, ApplicationContext context) at System.Windows.Forms.Application.Run() at coldshark.ferries.Main..ctor() in C:\My Dropbox\Coding\RTF\KordiaConnect\KordiaConnect\Main.cs:line 55 I can just call the webservice from the web interface, but this application will give me a handy status notification icon, and I'd really love to know why the out-of-the-box auto-generated code fails for no particular reason.

  • Why cant partial methods be public if the implementation is in the same assembly?

    - by Simon
    According to this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wa80x488.aspx "Partial methods are implicitly private" So you can have this // Definition in file1.cs partial void Method1(); // Implementation in file2.cs partial void Method1() { // method body } But you cant have this // Definition in file1.cs public partial void Method1(); // Implementation in file2.cs public partial void Method1() { // method body } But why is this? Is there some reason the compiler cant handle public partial methods?

  • Me.Invoke in VB.NET doesn't actually "Invoke" - threads stall on Invoke statement

    - by rwmnau
    I've got the following code: Public Delegate Sub SetStatusBarTextDelegate(ByVal StatusText As String) Private Sub SetStatusBarText(ByVal StatusText As String) If Me.InvokeRequired Then Me.Invoke(New SetStatusBarTextDelegate(AddressOf SetStatusBarText), StatusText) Else Me.labelScanningProgress.Text = StatusText End If End Sub The problem is that, when I call the "SetStatusBarText" sub from another thread, InvokeRequired is True (as it should be), but then my threads stall on the Me.Invoke statement - pausing execution shows them all just sitting there, not actually invoking anything. Any thoughts about why the threads seem to be afraid of the Invoke?

  • Correct way of using/testing event service in Eclipse E4 RCP

    - by Thorsten Beck
    Allow me to pose two coupled questions that might boil down to one about good application design ;-) What is the best practice for using event based communication in an e4 RCP application? How can I write simple unit tests (using JUnit) for classes that send/receive events using dependency injection and IEventBroker ? Let’s be more concrete: say I am developing an Eclipse e4 RCP application consisting of several plugins that need to communicate. For communication I want to use the event service provided by org.eclipse.e4.core.services.events.IEventBroker so my plugins stay loosely coupled. I use dependency injection to inject the event broker to a class that dispatches events: @Inject static IEventBroker broker; private void sendEvent() { broker.post(MyEventConstants.SOME_EVENT, payload) } On the receiver side, I have a method like: @Inject @Optional private void receiveEvent(@UIEventTopic(MyEventConstants.SOME_EVENT) Object payload) Now the questions: In order for IEventBroker to be successfully injected, my class needs access to the current IEclipseContext. Most of my classes using the event service are not referenced by the e4 application model, so I have to manually inject the context on instantiation using e.g. ContextInjectionFactory.inject(myEventSendingObject, context); This approach works but I find myself passing around a lot of context to wherever I use the event service. Is this really the correct approach to event based communication across an E4 application? how can I easily write JUnit tests for a class that uses the event service (either as a sender or receiver)? Obviously, none of the above annotations work in isolation since there is no context available. I understand everyone’s convinced that dependency injection simplifies testability. But does this also apply to injecting services like the IEventBroker? This article describes creation of your own IEclipseContext to include the process of DI in tests. Not sure if this could resolve my 2nd issue but I also hesitate running all my tests as JUnit Plug-in tests as it appears impractible to fire up the PDE for each unit test. Maybe I just misunderstand the approach. This article speaks about “simply mocking IEventBroker”. Yes, that would be great! Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any information on how this can be achieved. All this makes me wonder whether I am still on a "good path" or if this is already a case of bad design? And if so, how would you go about redesigning? Move all event related actions to dedicated event sender/receiver classes or a dedicated plugin?

  • Lifetime issue of IDisposable unmanaged resources in a complex object graph?

    - by stakx
    This question is about dealing with unmanaged resources (COM interop) and making sure there won't be any resource leaks. I'd appreciate feedback on whether I seem to do things the right way. Background: Let's say I've got two classes: A class LimitedComResource which is a wrapper around a COM object (received via some API). There can only be a limited number of those COM objects, therefore my class implements the IDisposable interface which will be responsible for releasing a COM object when it's no longer needed. Objects of another type ManagedObject are temporarily created to perform some work on a LimitedComResource. They are not IDisposable. To summarize the above in a diagram, my classes might look like this: +---------------+ +--------------------+ | ManagedObject | <>------> | LimitedComResource | +---------------+ +--------------------+ | o IDisposable (I'll provide example code for these two classes in just a moment.) Question: Since my temporary ManagedObject objects are not disposable, I obviously have no control over how long they'll be around. However, in the meantime I might have Disposed the LimitedComObject that a ManagedObject is referring to. How can I make sure that a ManagedObject won't access a LimitedComResource that's no longer there? +---------------+ +--------------------+ | managedObject | <>------> | (dead object) | +---------------+ +--------------------+ I've currently implemented this with a mix of weak references and a flag in LimitedResource which signals whether an object has already been disposed. Is there any better way? Example code (what I've currently got): LimitedComResource: class LimitedComResource : IDisposable { private readonly IUnknown comObject; // <-- set in constructor ... void Dispose(bool notFromFinalizer) { if (!this.isDisposed) { Marshal.FinalReleaseComObject(comObject); } this.isDisposed = true; } internal bool isDisposed = false; } ManagedObject: class ManagedObject { private readonly WeakReference limitedComResource; // <-- set in constructor ... public void DoSomeWork() { if (!limitedComResource.IsAlive()) { throw new ObjectDisposedException(); // ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ // is there a more suitable exception class? } var ur = (LimitedComResource)limitedComResource.Target; if (ur.isDisposed) { throw new ObjectDisposedException(); } ... // <-- do something sensible here! } }

  • ASP.NET site sometimes freezing up and/or showing odd text at top of the page while loading, on load

    - by MGOwen
    I have various servers (dev, 2 x test, 2 x prod) running the same asp.net site. The test and prod servers are in load-balanced pairs (prod1 with prod2, and test1 with test2). The test server pair is exhibiting some kind of (super) slowdown or freezing during about one in ten page loads. Sometimes a line of text appears at the very top of the page which looks something like: 00 OK Date: Thu, 01 Apr 2010 01:50:09 GMT Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered_By: ASP.NET X-AspNet-Version:2.0.50727 Cache-Control:private Content-Type:text/html; charset=ut (the beginning and end are "cut off".) Has anyone seen anything like this before? Any idea what it means or what's causing it? Edit: I often see this too when clicking something - it comes up as red text on a yellow page: XML Parsing Error: not well-formed Location: http://203.111.46.211/3DSS/CompanyCompliance.aspx?cid=14 Line Number 1, Column 24:2mMTehON9OUNKySVaJ3ROpN" / -----------------------^ If I go back and click again, it works (I see the page I clicked on, not the above error message). Update: ...And, instead of the page loading, I sometimes just get a white screen with text like this in black (looks a lot like the above text): HTTP/1.1 302 Found Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2010 04:53:39 GMT Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727 Location: /3DSS/EditSections.aspx?id=3&siteId=56&sectionId=46 Set-Cookie: .3DSS=A6CAC223D0F2517D77C7C68EEF069ABA85E9392E93417FFA4209E2621B8DCE38174AD699C9F0221D30D49E108CAB8A828408CF214549A949501DAFAF59F080375A50162361E4AA94E08874BF0945B2EF; path=/; HttpOnly Cache-Control: private Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Content-Length: 184 object moved here Where "here" is a link that points to a URL just like the one I'm requesting, except with an extra folder in it, meaning something like: http://123.1.2.3/MySite//MySite/Page.aspx?option=1 instead of: http://123.1.2.3/MySite/Page.aspx?option=1 Update: A colleague of mine found some info saying it might be because the test servers are running iis in 64 bit (64bit win 2003) (prod servers are 32 bit win 2003). So we tried telling IIS to use 32 bit: **cscript %SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1 %SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i ** (from this MS support page) But iis stopped working altogether (got "server unavailable" on a white page instead of web sites). Reversing the above (see the link) didn't work at first either. The ASP.NET tab disappeared from our IIS web site properties and we had to mess around for an hour uninstalling (aspnet_regiis.exe -u) and reinstalling 32 bit ASP.NET and adding Default.aspx manually back into default documents. We'll probably try again in a few days, if anyone has anything to add in the meantime, please do.

  • Wired component null in seam EntityHome action

    - by rangalo
    I have a custom EntityHome class. I wire the dependent entity in the wire method, but when I call the action (persist) the wired component is always null. • Srping, autowire @Value from a database

    - by Guido
    I am using a properties File to store some configuration properties, that are accessed this way: @Value("#{configuration.path_file}") private String pathFile; Is it possible (with Spring 3) to use the same @Value annotation, but loading the properties from a database instead of a file ?

  • Inherited TShape.Paint does not work after overriding Shape property

    - by DarkWalker
    I'm to code a TExpandedShape class inherited from TShape. TExpandedShape must act like TShape and be able to draw extra shapes: Polygon and Star. Here is my code unit ExpandedShape; interface uses SysUtils, WinTypes, WinProcs, Messages, Classes, Graphics, Controls, Forms, Dialogs, ExtCtrls, Windows; type TExpandedShapeType = ( stRectangle, stSquare, stRoundRect, stRoundSquare, stEllipse, stCircle, stPolygon, stStar ); TExpandedShape = class(TShape) private FShape: TExpandedShapeType; FEdgeCount: integer; procedure SetShape(const Value: TExpandedShapeType); procedure SetEdgeCount(const Value: integer); public procedure Paint; override; published property Shape : TExpandedShapeType read FShape write SetShape;// default stPolygon; property EdgeCount : integer read FEdgeCount write SetEdgeCount default 5; end; procedure Register; implementation procedure Register; begin RegisterComponents('Course', [TExpandedShape]); end; // TExpandedShape procedure TExpandedShape.Paint; begin case Shape of stStar : begin {Draw Star} end; stPolygon : begin {Draw Polygon} end; else begin {It is supposed to draw Circle, Rectangle etc, but it does not} inherited; end; end; end; procedure TExpandedShape.SetEdgeCount(const Value: integer); begin FEdgeCount := Value; Repaint; end; procedure TExpandedShape.SetShape(const Value: TExpandedShapeType); begin FShape := Value; Repaint; end; end. So, what is wrong? IMO TShape.Paint checks private value like FShape in case section and then decides what to draw. When inherited Paint method is called in my code it checks FShape value sees default 0 value [stRectangle] in there and draws it. PS: I did solve it with blackmagic way using Shape1 property instead of Shape one and if Shape1 value is not stPolygon or stStar i do like this: begin Shape := TShapeType(Shape1); inherited end; But this option is not really an option. I need a good short nice-looking one.

  • Reporting Services as PDF through WebRequest in C# 3.5 "Not Supported File Type"

    - by Heath Allison
    I've inherited a legacy application that is supposed to grab an on the fly pdf from a reporting services server. Everything works fine up until the point where you try to open the pdf being returned and adobe acrobat tells you: Adobe Reader could not open 'thisStoopidReport'.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged(for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). I've done some initial troubleshooting on this. If I replace the url in the WebRequest.Create() call with a valid pdf file on my local machine ie: @"C:temp/validpdf.pdf") then I get a valid PDF. The report itself seems to work fine. If I manually type the URL to the reporting services report that should generate the pdf file I am prompted for user authentication. But after supplying it I get a valid pdf file. I've replace the actual url,username,userpass and domain strings in the code below with bogus values for obvious reasons. WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create(@"http://x.x.x.x/reportServer?/reports/reportNam&rs:format=pdf&rs:command=render&rc:parameters=blahblahblah"); int totalSize = 0; request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("validUser", "validPass", "validDomain"); request.Timeout = 360000; // 6 minutes in milliseconds. request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Http.Post; request.ContentLength = 0; WebResponse response = request.GetResponse(); Response.Clear(); BinaryReader reader = new BinaryReader(response.GetResponseStream()); Byte[] buffer = new byte[2048]; int count = reader.Read(buffer, 0, 2048); while (count > 0) { totalSize += count; Response.OutputStream.Write(buffer, 0, count); count = reader.Read(buffer, 0, 2048); } Response.ContentType = "application/pdf"; Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Private); Response.CacheControl = "private"; Response.Expires = 30; Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=thisStoopidReport.pdf"); Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", totalSize.ToString()); reader.Close(); Response.Flush(); Response.End();

  • javascript problems when generating html reports from within java

    - by posdef
    Hi, I have been working on a Java project in which the reports will be generated in HTML, so I am implementing methods for creating these reports. One important functionality is to be able to have as much info as possible in the tables, but still not clutter too much. In other words the details should be available if the user wishes to take a look at them but not necessarily visible by default. I have done some searching and testing and found an interesting template for hiding/showing content with the use of CSS and javascript, the problem is that when I try the resultant html page the scripts dont work. I am not sure if it's due a problem in Java or in the javascript itself. I have compared the html code that java produces to the source where I found the template, they seem to match pretty well. Below are bits of my java code that generates the javascript and the content, i would greatly appreciate if anyone can point out the possible reasons for this problem: //goes to head private void addShowHideScript() throws IOException{ StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.append("<script type=\"text/javascript\" language=\"JavaScript\">\n"); sb.append("<!--function HideContent(d) {\n"); sb.append("document.getElementById(d).style.display=\"none\";}\n"); sb.append("function ShowContent(d) {\n"); sb.append("document.getElementById(d).style.display=\"block\";}\n"); sb.append("function ReverseDisplay(d) {\n"); sb.append("if(document.getElementById(d).style.display==\"none\")\n"); sb.append("{ document.getElementById(d).style.display=\"block\"; }\n"); sb.append("else { document.getElementById(d).style.display=\"none\"; }\n}\n"); sb.append("//--></script>\n"); out.write(sb.toString()); out.newLine(); } // body private String linkShowHideContent(String pathname, String divname){ StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.append("<a href=\"javascript:ReverseDisplay('"); sb.append(divname); sb.append("')\">"); sb.append(pathname); sb.append("</a>"); return sb.toString(); } // content out.write(linkShowHideContent("hidden content", "ex")); out.write("<div id=\"ex\" style=\"display:block;\">"); out.write("<p>Content goes here.</p></div>");

  • Entering and retrieving data from SQLite for an android List View

    - by Infiniti Fizz
    Hi all, I started learning android development a few weeks ago and have gone through the developer.android.com tutorials etc. But now I have a problem. I'm trying to create an app which tracks the usage of each installed app. Therefore I'm pulling the names of all installed apps using the PackageManager and then trying to put them into an SQLite database table. I am using the Notepad Tutorial SQLite implementation but I'm running into some problems that I have tried for days to solve. I have 2 classes, the DBHelper class and the actual ListActivity class. For some reason the app force closes when I try and run my fillDatabase() function which gets all the app names from the PackageManager and tries to put them into the database: private void fillDatabase() { PackageManager manager = this.getPackageManager(); List<ApplicationInfo> appList = manager.getInstalledApplications(0); for(int i = 0; i < appList.size(); i++) { mDbHelper.addApp(manager.getApplicationLabel(appList.get(i)).toString(), 0); } } addApp() is a function defined in my AppsDbHelper class and looks as follows: public long createApp(String name, int usage) { ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues(); initialValues.put(KEY_NAME, name); initialValues.put(KEY_USAGE, usage); return mDb.insert(DATABASE_TABLE, null, initialValues); } The database create is defined as follows: private static final String DATABASE_CREATE = "create table notes (_id integer primary key autoincrement, " + "title text not null, usage integer not null);"; I have commented out all statements that follow fillDatabase(); in the onCreate() method of the ListActivity and so know that it is definetely the problem but I don't know why. I am taking the appName and putting it into the KEY_NAME field of the row and putting 0 into the KEY_USAGE field of the row (because initially, my app will default the usage of each app to 0 (not used yet)). If my addApp() function doesn't take the usage and just puts KEY_NAME into the ContentValues and into the database, it seems to work fine, but I want a column for usage. Any ideas why it is not working? Have I overlooked something? Thanks for your time, InfinitiFizz

  • SBT run differences between scala and java?

    - by Eric Cartner
    I'm trying to follow the log4j2 configuration tutorials in a SBT 0.12.1 project. Here is my build.sbt: name := "Logging Test" version := "0.0" scalaVersion := "2.9.2" libraryDependencies ++= Seq( "org.apache.logging.log4j" % "log4j-api" % "2.0-beta3", "org.apache.logging.log4j" % "log4j-core" % "2.0-beta3" ) When I run the main() defined in src/main/scala/logtest/Foo.scala: package logtest import org.apache.logging.log4j.{Logger, LogManager} object Foo { private val logger = LogManager.getLogger(getClass()) def main(args: Array[String]) { logger.trace("Entering application.") val bar = new Bar() if (!bar.doIt()) logger.error("Didn't do it.") logger.trace("Exiting application.") } } I get the output I was expecting given that src/main/resources/log4j2.xml sets the root logging level to trace: [info] Running logtest.Foo 08:39:55.627 [run-main] TRACE logtest.Foo$ - Entering application. 08:39:55.630 [run-main] TRACE logtest.Bar - entry 08:39:55.630 [run-main] ERROR logtest.Bar - Did it again! 08:39:55.630 [run-main] TRACE logtest.Bar - exit with (false) 08:39:55.630 [run-main] ERROR logtest.Foo$ - Didn't do it. 08:39:55.630 [run-main] TRACE logtest.Foo$ - Exiting application. However, when I run the main() defined in src/main/java/logtest/LoggerTest.java: package logtest; import org.apache.logging.log4j.Logger; import org.apache.logging.log4j.LogManager; public class LoggerTest { private static Logger logger = LogManager.getLogger(LoggerTest.class.getName()); public static void main(String[] args) { logger.trace("Entering application."); Bar bar = new Bar(); if (!bar.doIt()) logger.error("Didn't do it."); logger.trace("Exiting application."); } } I get the output: [info] Running logtest.LoggerTest ERROR StatusLogger Unable to locate a logging implementation, using SimpleLogger ERROR Bar Did it again! ERROR LoggerTest Didn't do it. From what I can tell, ERROR StatusLogger Unable to ... is usually a sign that log4j-core is not on my classpath. The lack of TRACE messages seems to indicate that my log4j2.xml settings aren't on the classpath either. Why should there be any difference in classpath if I'm running Foo.main versus LoggerTest.main? Or is there something else causing this behavior? Update I used SBT Assembly to build a fat jar of this project and specified logtest.LoggerTest to be the main class. Running it from the command line produced correct results: Eric-Cartners-iMac:target ecartner$ java -jar "Logging Test-assembly-0.0.jar" 10:52:23.220 [main] TRACE logtest.LoggerTest - Entering application. 10:52:23.221 [main] TRACE logtest.Bar - entry 10:52:23.221 [main] ERROR logtest.Bar - Did it again! 10:52:23.221 [main] TRACE logtest.Bar - exit with (false) 10:52:23.221 [main] ERROR logtest.LoggerTest - Didn't do it. 10:52:23.221 [main] TRACE logtest.LoggerTest - Exiting application.

  • Looking for a web pdf viewer, not the google document viewer

    - by Jonathan
    I would love to use google document viewer, but I am dealing with sensitive documents and google's Terms state that if you use their service the document basically becomes public domain. Are they any alternatives that will keep your content private? FYI: I am developing with ruby on rails, it would be cool if there was a gem.
