• Google App Engine Python: get image upload size server-side

  I am building a Google App Engine App that lets users upload images; I have everything working fine, but I am struggling to find a way to ensure that the user does not upload an image too large (because I am resizing the images, so this crashes my python script). When a user uploads a large image, I get this error RequestTooLargeError: The request to API call images.Transform() was too large. I know that there is a size limitation on what GAE allows for it's image API, I am just trying to find a way to deal with this server side; something along the lines of if (image is too large): inform user else: proceed I haven't had any luck finding the right python code to do this; can anyone help me out?

  With TFS2010 using the "MSF for Agile Software Development v5" process template, I'm having some difficulty in understanding exactly what an Issue is. The most specific documentation I've been able to find is this. Is an Issue a higher-level item for which we will probably generate a Bug for after some investigation in code/requirements? Or is an Issue something different than a Bug because it has not actually a mistake in code but is more of a critical oversight in design (for example, there was never an attempt to create a datepicker for all date fields and this is a UX issue but not really a bug) and therefore a change request of sorts? Or is it something different?

  If you have checked out the new MSDN layout recently you will notice that there are tabs for example code: Do you see that there is room for F# (is there really anyone using that?) but not for Delphi! My question is: can we all ask Microsoft to add a Delphi tab and as a community take care off adding samples.   I am at present introducing code to my site to combine css and javascript files. Is there a way without having to include an external library to load javascript asynchronously or in parallel? I have read on some blogs that combining of files can be counter productive as the load of the http request can be large and its better to load multiple files in parallel. Opinions on this? I am caching my javascript/css. And would have thought it was better to combine rather than have multiple http requests.

• How to limit a google calendar xml / rss feed by date range (not working!!)

  For the life of me I cannot get my google calendar xml feed to only display events within a certain date range. I know that start-min and start-max are supposed to limit the output (according to these posts: (links to posts deleted because I am a newbie and can only post one hyperlink argh) BUT I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK. It keeps showing lot of things outside the range. I created a sample calendar and made it public. It is some events the first week of april. Can anyone show me how to construct a request that only returns those three events from the first week in april? I'll GLADLY and GRATEFULLY paypal $10 to anyone who helps me break through on this. • Modify HTML Content with Squid

  We have setup our network as per the tutorial here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Upside-Down-TernetHowTo. Basically, we have a squid proxy that inverts images for pages that clients request. We're trying to modify the script so that we can edit the contents of the webpage before the webpage is sent to the client. We are not having any luck. I'm wondering if there is something different about .html files that makes this not possible. What is happening is that we do a wget on the URI that is requested, save it locally, modify it and then echo back the new URI. The page that the user gets is the unmodified page and not the one that we just changed.

• Adobe Flex, loading a remote swf

  I have a flex app running on my server. I have had a request from some clients to have the swf loaded on their server, so that their customers dont have to be transferred to my server to login; i.e. from the user's point of view it looks like they are logging in from theirsite.com instead of mysite.com I tried something really simple, and that was to give them a html wrapper to host on their site. The only modification that I made was to change the "src" var to: "src", "https://www.mysite.com/app/myapp.swf" and embed src="https://www.mysite.com/app/myapp.swf" To my surprise, this worked perfectly. And best of all, the service calls still seem to come from mysite.com, so I dont have to bother with modifying the crossdomain.xml file. All good it seems. Are there any issues or downsides to the above that I should be aware of?

  We are starting to convert a large classic asp application into MVC (using C#). An additional requirement is, that all classic routes get "translated" to MVC ones ('mydomain.com/productdetail.asp?id=13' should become 'mydomain.com/products/13') even before we start writing the first controller or view. So basically, we want to use the routing from MVC but have the classic asp handle the response. An these are my questions: How to use the new nice urls but have the classic asp handle the construction of the html result? Within the classic asp page, the new MVC url pattern should be used for links. What is the best way of translating the old urls to the new ones and make the accessible within the classic asp site (using COM I guess). When an old/classic url is requested, how would I correctly handle that request so that browsers/searchengines would understand that the page has moved to the new url? Thanks in advance!

  I have a set of xslt stylesheet files. I need to produce the fastest performance of XslConpiledTransform, so i want to make in-memory representation of these stylesheets. I can load them to in-memory collection as IXpathNavigable on application start, and then load each IXPAthNavigable into singleton XslCompiledTransform on each request. But this works only for styleshhets without xsl:import or xsl:include. (Xsl:import is only for files). also i can load into cache many instances of XSLCompiledTransform for each template. Is it reasonable? Are there other ways? What is the best? what are another tips for improving performance MS Xslt processor?

  My entity has a property (sortOrder) that is of the type Decimal(NSDecimalNumber) but when I execute a fetch request using that property as a key, I get back results in a seemingly random order. If I output the value of the property I get really strange values until I get it's intValue. Example: The first run produces this result. The first value is the raw value of the property.   I am developing an Twitter4J web application in Google App Engine/Java. I need to show two lists. One is Twitter friends and other is followers. With photo and screen name. It is working fine for people who have 20-30 followers and friends. But it gave me DeadlineExceededException when I try a user who has 150+ followers and friends. GAE throws this exception if web request take time more than 30 seconds. So what techniques I can adopt to avoid this exception. Should I generate two AJAX calls for each of my list. After page loads. So that every call will have its own 30 secs limit? Or what else you think? I am gone make it. Please help.

• Escaping ampersands in URLs for HttpClient requests

  So I've got some Java code that uses Jakarta HttpClient like this: URI aURI = new URI( "http://host/index.php?title=" + title + "&action=edit" ); GetMethod aRequest = new GetMethod( aURI.getEscapedPathQuery()); The problem is that if title includes any ampersands (&), they're considered parameter delimiters and the request goes screwy... and if I replace them with the URL-escaped equivalent %26, then this gets double-escaped by getEscapedPathQuery() into %2526. I'm currently working around this by basically repairing the damage afterward: URI aURI = new URI( "http://host/index.php?title=" + title.replace("&", "%26") + "&action=edit" ); GetMethod aRequest = new GetMethod( aURI.getEscapedPathQuery().replace("%2526", "%26")); But there has to be a nicer way to do this, right? Note that the title can contain any number of unpredictable UTF-8 chars etc, so escaping everything else is a requirement.

There are two different data coming from the internet, one is changing every one hour and another one does not change basically. So for the first type of data, I need to implement an expire policy to make it self deleted after it was created for 1 hour, and when user request that data, I will check the storage first and then goto internet if nothing found. I thought about using a SharedPrefrence or SQLDatabase to store the json data or serialized object string. My question is: 1) What should I use, SharedPrefrence or SQLDatabase or anything else, a piece of data is not big but there are maybe many instances of that data. 2) How to implement that expire system.

  I don't understand: how are webserver and trackers like Google Analytics able to track referrals? Is it part of HTTP? Is it some (un)specified behavior of the browsers? Apparently every time you click on a link on a web page, the original web page is passed along the request. What is the exact mechanism behind that? Is it specified by some spec? I've read a few docs and I've played with my own Tomcat server and my own Google Analytics account, but I don't understand how the "magic" happens. Bonus (totally related) question: if, on my own website (served by Tomcat), I put a link to another site, does the other site see my website as the "referrer" without me doing anything special in Tomcat?

• Tiling solution for the iPhone that can handle infinite # of tiles

  I have been looking at ways to implement a tiling solution on the iPhone/iPad similar to something like Google Maps. I have looked at examples of how to implement a CATiledLayer into a view that is inside a UIScrollView. Then when you scroll the view, the tiles request the new data to be shown. However, this seems to work when you have a finite view size (ie: 3000x3000). However, how could I work this into a tiling solution for much larger sizes. Basically, I want to be able to show data as needed for tiles as large as I can. Can I somehow use CATiledLayer to do this? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

  I was using geonames.org to autocomplete city and state but found it to be far too slow to be reliable. The issue is that I don't seem to understand how to properly map the response. • Fully customized login system in Django?

  Hey, I am currently writing an application which I plan to sell as SaaS. Without giving away "secrets," I can say that it is basically a "document editing system" in which many users will be submitting documents. The basic heirarchy is this: Institution Individual Document Sub-document So each Individual should be able to BROWSE all documents that were submitted by anybody in their institution, but should only be able to EDIT documents that they created. No individual should even be aware of the existence of another Institution--that should all be completely hidden. I have written a Django/Python class that would facilitate this, but every document regarding authentication that I have read requires that I use the User object. Is this just a limitation of Django, or is there a way to do this? If there is a way, how can I get my own "Individual" class details attached to the "request" objects so I can validate the things I should be showing the users?
