  I have been fooling around with EF with a database that has implemented user-schema separation with a twist, there are multiple tables with the same name but are separated via the schema. So like: admin.tasks staff.tasks contractor.tasks When I created my EF model I noticed that there were 3 tasks tables: tasks tasks1 tasks2 Is this by design? Also is there a way to tell EF to add the schema to the name of the entity or am I SOL and doing it myself?

  I am working on a custom web part for Project Web Access, for Project Server 2007. We are so far using PSI web services only to read and write data from and to Project Server 2007 databases. But there is a signinficant performance issue when you retrieve time phased data through Statusing web service, it is basically an expensive call for querying time phased data for each tasks. I want to access Time phased data entered by user for each tasks by directly hitting the Project Server Database. [ I do not want the solution suggested at this link : http://blogs.msdn.com/project_programmability/archive/2007/05/24/getting-at-the-task-time-phased-data.aspx as it reads data from reporting database which gets entry only after the project is published. ] I want to get time phased data as soon as user enters it. • Does Entity Framework 4 not support property automatic lazy loading for model-first entities?

  All references that I find for lazy loading say it's possible but they all mention POCOs and that's it. I am using EF4 with the model-first methodology. In my model diagram I have a Project table and a UserObject table, with a 1 to many relationship between them. However, in code, when I have a valid UserObject and I attempt to get the project performing: Project prj = userobj.Project. Unfortunately, this doesn't work as it claims that UserObject.Project is null. It seems like I have to explicitly load the Project object via calling UserObject.ProjectReference.Load() prior to calling .Project. Is there any way for this to occur automatically when I access the .Project property?

• kill -9 doesn't work

  I have a server with 3 oracle instances on it, and the file system is nfs with netapp. After shutdown the databases, one process for each database doesn't quit for a long time. Each kill -i doesn't work. I tried to truss, pfile it, the command through error. And iostat shows there are lots of IO to the netapp server. So someone said the process was busy writing data to remote netapp server, and before the write complete, it won't quit. So what need to be done was just wait until all the IO was done. After wait for longer time (about 1.5 hours), the processes exit. So my question is: how can a process ignore the kill signal? As far as I know, if we kill -9, it will stop immediately. Do you encounter such situation kill -i doesn't kill the process right away?   Hi all, In my application I have this requirement that first tap on custom cell of uitableview with a label in it should expand it and second should contract it. I'm able to expand and contract cell and expand label inside cell, but not able to contract the label on second tap. I'm using this function - (void)setSelected:(BOOL)selected animated:(BOOL)animated { [super setSelected:selected animated:animated]; if( selected == YES ) { [self expandRow]; } else { [self contractRow]; } height = [lblFeed frame].size.height + 75; } expandRow expands the label and contractRow contracts it. I'm perplexed as for how many rows this function gets called. It doesn't get called only for the cell tapped, it gets called more number of times for single tap on single cell may be for other cells but I'm not getting which rows. This' really urgent. Can anybody please help?

• JSF Custom EL function works only on the first load of the page.

  I created a ( JSP-based) custom EL function to use in the rendered tag. The function will return a boolean to decide if a page component needs to be rendered on a page or not. I import it onto the jsp page using <%@ taglib uri = "/WEB-INF/mine.tld" prefix = "g" %. Everything works perfect on the first load of the jsp page. Once a button is clicked, the form submits and then I am getting errors like 'No ClassLoaders found for: the class which implements my EL function' and 'Function not found'. What is going on here? What will be a fix?

  Hello, I am coding a simple space empire management game in Visual C# 2008, which relies on connecting to a remote SQL server database to get/store data. I would like the user to be able to connect to a user-specified SQL server from the login screen(he specifies IP address, port, database name, ID, password and presses "connect" button). However, I found out that the Dataset connection string property is read only and cannot be changed. Is there any way to guide the wizard-generated DataSet to a user-specified server at run time? • Doctrine Mssql uniqueidentifier isn't cast as char or nvarchar when retrieved from the database.

  When I retrieve a record from the database which has a column of type "uniqueidentifier", Doctrine fills it with "null" rather than the unique id from the database. Some research and testing has brought this down to a PDO/dblib driver issue. When directly querying via PDO, null is returned in place of the unique id. For reference, http://trac.doctrine-project.org/ticket/1096, has a bit on this, however, it was updated 11 months ago with no comment for resolution. A way around this, as mentioned at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=24752&edit=1, is to cast the column as a char. However, it doesn't seem Doctrine exposes the native field type outside of generating models which makes it a bit hard to detect uniqueidentifier types and cast them internally when building the sql query. Has anyone found a workaround for this?

  Hi. I'm using the Entity Framework 4 and have a question: I have a password column in my database that I want to manage using custom SQL. So I don't want the model to know anything about it. I've tried deleting the property in the Mapping Details window, but then I got a compilation error: Error 3023: Problem in mapping fragments starting at line 1660:Column User.Password in table User must be mapped: It has no default value and is not nullable. So, I made the column nullable in the database and updated the model. Now I get this error: Error 3004: Problem in mapping fragments starting at line 1660:No mapping specified for properties User.Password, User.Salt in Set Users. An Entity with Key (PK) will not round-trip when: Entity is type [UserDirectoryModel.User] Any ideas please? Thanks, Nick

  Hi all, I have have several ULs vertically down a page. They are setup using jQueryUI's sortable(). My live example is: http://jsfiddle.net/pborreli/pJgyu/ I can drag from answers to make it the final element in questions. But when I drag from questions to answers the placeholder jumps to the second item in the questions list. At that point I can then drag it to the top. Any ideas why I am having this issue dragging from a list above to the first element of a list below? I've tried editing the padding and margin on both the lists and the sortable items.   Is there a way to display the output of a sqlplus command without having to first issue the spool off command? I am spooling the results of a sqlplus session to a file while at the same time tailing the file. The reason for this is that for table with very long rows the format is easier to look at from a file. The problem is to see the output i have to issue the spool off command everytime i run a command in sqlplus. Can i configure sqlplus so that after i have issued the spool command all the output is viewable straight away on the file. (Formating the way the rows are displayed on the screen is not an option. ) THanks

  I have a winforms project which I keep in different versions, each version having its own project folder. All these projects use the same database file, which is copied in each project folder too. So if I run a project, let's say 0.34, and then I try to run 0.35, all the database functions don't work, unless I detach the database in SQL server management studio express. So all the database functions don't work, except the data grid view and/or crystal reports. But then, if I detach the database, and I run any version, all the database functions work, except the data grid view and/or crystal reports. So to recap, when the database functions work (like select), crystal reports doesn't work. But when the database functions don't work because the database is not detached, crystal reports works. weird. any ideas?

  Suppose I have an Orders table in my database and a corresponding model class generated by the VS2008 "Linq to SQL Classes" designer. Suppose I also have a stored procedure (ProcessOrder) in my database that I use to do some processing on an order record. If I do the following: var order = dataContext.Orders.Where(o => o.id == orderId).First(); // More code here dataContext.ProcessOrder(orderId); order.Status = "PROCESSED"; dataContext.SubmitChanges(); ...then I'll get a concurrency violation if the ProcessOrder stored proc has modified the order (which is of course very likely), because L2S will detect that the order record has changed, and will fail to submit the changes to that order. That's all fairly logical, but what if I want to update the order record after calling the stored proc? How do I tell L2S to forget about its cached copy and refresh it from the DB?

  Ok this is going to seem like a dumb question to experienced developers, but questions like this bother me until I ask them. So... is it more efficient to always run a delete query by default whether an entry exists or not, for example to delete a user name after a certain period of time (DELETE * from table where username=user), or should you check if that entry exists first using a select query and mysql_num_rows. What uses more processor on the server side? Obviously one approach contains more code, but I was wondering if certain mysql operations used a lot more cpu than others.

  I have a Zend_Framework application, which has a whole bunch of model classes. I need these model classes to be able to access the application's database (naturally). Currently I've put this in my index.php: Zend_Registry::set('db', $application->bootstrap()->getBootstrap() ->getPluginResource('db')->getDbAdapter()); And then $db = Zend_Registry::get('db'); in each of my model classes that require the database. But this seems like a horrible horrible hack. Am I missing something basic here?

• Using LINQ to query database through a proxy server of some kind?

  Hey All Sorry for using (perhaps) the wrong lingo, but my question may be clearer if you view this diagram as you read it. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13256/DIAGRAM.PNG Our client is requiring us to adhere to the server configuration (poorly) diagrammed in the above image. The web server is accessible over port 80 and is where our web application is hosted - a second firewall permits this web server to access a second server which in turn is the only server permitted to access the database server. My question is: How do I deploy a web application that uses LINQ-to-SQL in this environment? Is there a way to proxy my LINQ queries through the app server so that the database connection goes through that server? This is uncharted territory for me, as we always have had access to the DB server directly from our web server in the past. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Mustafa
