  • Django: Change models without clearing all data?

    - by Rosarch
I have some models I'm working with in a new Django installation. Is it possible to change the fields without losing app data? I tried changing the field and running python manage.py syncdb. There was no output from this command. Renavigating to admin pages for editing the changed models caused TemplateSyntaxErrors as Django sought to display fields that didn't exist in the db. I am using SQLite. I am able to delete the db file, then re-run python manage.py syncdb, but that is kind of a pain. Is there a better way to do it?

  • (closed) nodejs responding an image (via pipe and response.end()) leads into strange behaviour

    - by johannesboyne
What the Problem was: I had 2 different writeStreams! If WriteStram#1 is closed, the second should be closed too and then it all should be piped... BUT node is asynchronious so while one has been closed, the other one hasn't. Even the stream.end() was called... well you always should wait for the close event! thx guys for your help! I am at my wit's end. I used this code to pipe an image to my clients: req.pipe(fs.createReadStream(__dirname+'/imgen/cached_images/' + link).pipe(res)) it does work but sometimes the image is not transferred completely. But no error is thrown neither on client side (browser) nor on server side (node.js). My second try was var img = fs.readFileSync(__dirname+'/imgen/cached_images/' + link); res.writeHead(200, { 'Content-Type' : 'image/png' }); res.end(img, 'binary'); but it leads to the same strange behaviour... Does anyone got a clue for me? Regards! (abstracted code...) var http = require('http'); http.createServer(function (req, res) { Imgen.generateNew( 'virtualtwins/www_leonardocampus_de/overview/28', 'www.leonardocampus.de', 'overview', '28', null, [], [], function (link) { fs.stat(__dirname+'/imgen/cached_images/' + link, function(err, file_info) { if (err) { console.log('err', err); } console.log('file info', file_info.size); res.writeHead(200, 'image/png'); fs.createReadStream(__dirname+'/imgen/cached_images/' + link).pipe(res); }); } ); }).listen(13337, '127.0.0.1'); Imgen.generateNew just creates a new file, saves it to the disk and gives back the path (link)

  • Get binary data from audio impulses

    - by Timo
I have IR sensor which have TRS plug and I can record my remotes signals into audio. Now I want to control my computer with TV remote, but I don't have any clue how to compare audio input with pre-recorded audio. But after I realized that these audio waves contains only some kind data (binary) I can turn these into binary or hex, so it is much easier to compare. Waves look just like this: http://i.imgur.com/lCIyl.png And this: ttp://i.imgur.com/goJ6d.png These are records of "OK" button, sometimes there are some impulses on right channel too and I don't know why, it seems like connections in sensor are damaged maybe. Ok thats not matter, anyway I need help with python program which read these impulses and turn these into binary, in realtime from audio input(mic). I know it's sounds like "Do it for me, while I enjoy my life", but I don't have experiences with sound transforming/reading... I've looking for python examples for recording and reading audio, but unsuccessfully.

  • Creative an interactive GUI for a web application

    - by user2125844
I have to create a web application (preferably using the Google App Engine) that will allow users to access it through a url link (not a Desktop application). The application graphically looks like a flow chart and each item in the chart can be selected to pull up a video (not in another window). It is recommended that I use Python. I have never made anything for the web before. Is there a best Python GUI API I should use? I've read quite a bit about Django so far I'm not sure if it is the best fit for this or not. Does anyone have any tips for starting this project? Thanks in advance!

  • Likelihood of IOError during print vs. write

    - by jkasnicki
I recently encountered an IOError writing to a file on NFS. There wasn't a disk space or permission issue, so I assume this was just a network hiccup. The obvious solution is to wrap the write in a try-except, but I was curious whether the implementation of print and write in Python make either of the following more or less likely to raise IOError: f_print = open('print.txt', 'w') print >>f_print, 'test_print' f_print.close() vs. f_write = open('write.txt', 'w') f_write.write('test_write\n') f_write.close() (If it matters, specifically in Python 2.4 on Linux).

  • lightbox dynamic image retrieval

    - by GSTAR
I am constructing a lighbox gallery, currently experimenting with FancyBox (http://fancybox.net) and ColorBox (http://colorpowered.com/colorbox). By default you have to include a link to the large version of the image so that the Lightbox can display it. However, I am wanting to have the image link URLs pointing to a script rather than directly to the image file. So for example, instead of: <a href="mysite/images/myimage.jpg"> I want to do: <a href="mysite/photos/view/abc123"> The above URL points to a function: public function actionPhotos($view) { $photo=Photo::model()->find('name=:name', array(':name'=>$view)); if(!empty($photo)) { $user=$photo->user; $this->renderPartial('_photo', array('user'=>$user, 'photo'=>$photo, true)); } } At some point in the future the function will also update the view count of the image. Now this approach is working to an extent - most images load up but some do not load up (the lightbox gets displayed in a malformed state). I think the reason for this is because it is not processing the function quick enough. For example when I click the "next" button it needs to go to the URL, process the function and retreive/output the response. Does anybody know how I can get this working properly?

  • What is most efficient way of setting row to zeros for a sparce scipy matrix?

    - by Alex Reinking
I'm trying to convert the following MATLAB code to Python and am having trouble finding a solution that works in any reasonable amount of time. M = diag(sum(a)) - a; where = vertcat(in, out); M(where,:) = 0; M(where, where) = 1; Here, a is a sparse matrix and where is a vector (as are in/out). The solution I have using Python is: M = scipy.sparse.diags([degs], [0]) - A where = numpy.hstack((inVs, outVs)).astype(int) M = scipy.sparse.lil_matrix(M) M[where, :] = 0 # This is the slowest line M[where, where] = 1 M = scipy.sparse.csc_matrix(M) But since A is 334863x334863, this takes like three minutes. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this faster, please contribute them! For comparison, MATLAB does this same step imperceptibly fast. Thanks!

  • Several modules in a package importing one common module

    - by morpheous
I am writing a python package. I am using the concept of plugins - where each plugin is a specialization of a Worker class. Each plugin is written as a module (script?) and spawned in a separate process. Because of the base commonality between the plugins (e.g. all extend a base class 'Worker'), The plugin module generally looks like this: import commonfuncs def do_work(data): # do customised work for the plugin print 'child1 does work with %s' % data In C/C++, we have include guards, which prevent a header from being included more than once. Do I need something like that in Python, and if yes, how may I make sure that commonfuncs is not 'included' more than once?

  • Any method to denote object assignment?

    - by Droogans
I've been studying magic methods in Python, and have been wondering if there's a way to outline the specific action of: a = MyClass(*params).method() versus: MyClass(*params).method() In the sense that, perhaps, I may want to return a list that has been split on the '\n' character, versus dumping the raw list into the variable a that keeps the '\n' intact. Is there a way to ask Python if its next action is about to return a value to a variable, and change action, if that's the case? I was thinking: class MyClass(object): def __init__(*params): self.end = self.method(*params) def __asgn__(self): return self.method(*params).split('\n') def __str__(self): """this is the fallback if __asgn__ is not called""" return self.method(*params)

  • Mapping a URL to a service inside a class library

    - by johnk82swe
I'm developing a small content management solution than can be used in any ASP.NET 3.5 website. The website references some dll's and then lets the aspx's inherit my page baseclass. Some configuration in web.config is also needed, but thats it. Now I'm building a standalone Silverlight editor for the CMS. My idea is that it should communicate with the server using web services. But the question is how to make this service available to the editor? I don't want the website developers having to bother with it. If I used a REST API rather than SOAP I could just create an HttpHandler in my class library and let the website developers add a handler to it in web.config with the path "editor" and then the editor could communicate with that handler on mywebsite.com/editor. Is there any way to achieve the same with a asmx or wcf service? The important thing is that the website developers never have to set up any asmx files or anything. They should only have to specify a url and map that url to a service inside my class library. Thanks in advance!

  • How to run a module

    - by Jimmy
I have a module file containing the following functions: def replace(filename): match = re.sub(r'[^\s^\w]risk', 'risk', filename) return match def count_words(newstring): from collections import defaultdict word_dict=defaultdict(int) for line in newstring: words=line.lower().split() for word in words: word_dict[word]+=1 for word in word_dict: if'risk'==word: return word, word_dict[word] when I do this in IDLE: >>> mylist = open('C:\\Users\\ahn_133\\Desktop\\Python Project\\test10.txt').read() >>> newstrings=replace(mylist) ### This works fine. >>> newone=count_words(newstrings) ### This leads to the following error. I get the following error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<pyshell#134>", line 1, in <module> newPH = replace(newPassage) File "C:\Users\ahn_133\Desktop\Python Project\text_modules.py", line 56, in replace match = re.sub(r'[^\s^\w]risk', 'risk', filename) File "C:\Python27\lib\re.py", line 151, in sub return _compile(pattern, flags).sub(repl, string, count) TypeError: expected string or buffer Is there anyway to run both functions without saving newstrings into a file, opening it using readlines(), and then running count_words function?

  • Methods of sending web-generated config files to servers and restarting services.

    - by JPG
Hi, We're writing a web-based tool to configure our services provided by multiple servers. This includes interfaces configuration, dhcp configs etc. etc. Having configs in database and views that generate proper output, how to send it/make it available for servers? I'm thinking about sending it through scp and invoking reload command to services through ssh. I'm also thinking about using Func to do all the job, as this is Python tool and will seemingly integrate with python-based (django) config tool. Any other proposals?

  • regular expression

    - by Altariste
Hi, I need to find all invocations of some logging macros in the code. The macro invocation is of the form: DEBUG[1-5] ( "methodName: the logged message", arguments) But the new versions of the macros are prepending the name of the method automatically, so my task is to write a Python script that will remove the duplicate function names specified already by the programmer. I'm using the sub function from the re module. I plan to substitute the part indicated by || signs below : ||DEBUG[1-5] ("methodName: || the logged message", arguments) with simply DEBUG[1-5](" The problem is following: To find the expressions I want to substitute, I use the following regular expression: ((DEBUG | INFO | all other macros names )[1-5]*)\s*\(\"\w+: But it doesn't match the whole expression ( from DEBUG right to the colon ), but only the macro name, that is for example DEBUG5. Is my expression wrong or there is some quirk in the Python regex processing? ( maybe the fact that I use the DEBUG[1-5] as a subgroup has something to do with this? ) Help from anyone more knowledgable than me appreciated :).

  • Objective C : UIButton image with NSArray in a random order

    - by Sarah
Brief Idea about the flow : I have say minimum 1 and maximum 18 records in my database with a text and an image from which I have to fetch images and place any 3 of the same randomly to 3 UIButtons among which one image should match with my question. i.e. 1 is the answer and other 2 are the distractors. For Example : Question is : where is Apple? Now among the bunch of images, I want to place any 3 images on the 3 UIButtons(1 answer i.e. An Apple and 2 distractors) in a random order and on selecting the UIButton it should prompt me if it's a right answer or not. I am implementing below code for placing the UIImages in a random order : -(void) placeImages { NSMutableArray *images = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:arrImg]; NSArray *buttons = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:btn1,btn2,btn3, nil]; for (UIButton *btn in buttons) { int randomIndex= random() % images.count; UIImage *img = [images objectAtIndex:randomIndex]; [btn setImage:img forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [images removeObjectAtIndex:randomIndex]; } } But I am stuck at a point that how should I get 1 UIButton image with an answer and other as distractors also that how should i maintain the index of the image from the NSArray? Kindly guide me. Thank you.

  • CSS: image link, change on hover

    - by AP257
I have an image that is a link. I want to show a different image when the user hovers over the link. Currently I'm using this code: <a href="http://twitter.com/me" title="Twitter link"> <div id="twitterbird" class="sidebar-poster"></div></a> div.sidebar-poster { margin-bottom: 10px; background-position: center top; background-repeat: no-repeat; width: 160px; } #twitterbird { background-image: url('twitterbird.png'); } #twitterbird:hover { background-image: url('twitterbird_hover.png'); } But I'm having loads of problems: the div isn't picking up the CSS rules (the element just isn't showing the related CSS rules when I view it in Firebug). Perhaps this is because (as I know) this is invalid HTML: you can't put an <a> around a <div>. However, if I switch to <span> then it seems I get bigger problems, because you can't set a height and width on a span reliably. Help! How can I do this better?

  • Django forms: where is POST data received?

    - by Rosarch
I have a widget that allows user to enter data for a model field. The data in the form can't be directly converted to Python - it requires some coercion. Where do I put this code? Is the widget responsible for translating its post data to a python value? The field itself? I thought that maybe value_from_datadict() would be correct, but now it looks like that serves a different purpose. (I'm using the form in the admin interface, if it makes any difference.)

  • Beginner's Language app

    - by Eiseldora
Hi I'm a techie with no programing experience. I know html and css, but I'd like to someday be able to make an app for my phone (I have an android) and possibly mobile websites. I made learning a programing language and creating a mobile app a goal for my job, and now my boss would like me to pick a programing language to learn. I found a free open course from MIT (http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-00-introduction-to-computer-science-and-programming-fall-2008/) called introduction to computer science. In the course they teach python, but more importantly it seems they teach how to think like a programmer. When I told my boss about the free online course she didn't think that Python was an appropriate language for me to learn. She'd like me to learn a language that is more similar to one used to make Phone apps. Does anyone out there know a better language for me to pick up that would be similar to Android or iPhone's App language. Thank you

  • Image switch based on if a layer is visible

    - by Zuno
I have a website that contains multiple pages as layers (not as separate HTML files). I have three images: <img src="image1.png" onclick="showlayer(1);return false;" /> <br /> <img src="image2.png" onclick="showlayer(2);return false;" /> <br /> <img src="image3.png" onclick="showlayer(3);return false;" /> When an image is clicked, it shows the relevant layer and hides the others. I want it to also change the image to image1_active.png / image2_active.png / image3_active.png depending on which layer is visible (not via the onclick event handler). Why not via the onclick event handler?... Layer 1 is set as visible by default in the CSS, so image1 needs to be image1_active.png by default too - since the user has not had to click on anything yet, this is why I need the image switch to detect the layer's visibility/display to change the image. The showlayer script is: function showlayer(n){ for(i=1;i<=3;i++){document.getElementById("layer"+i).style.display="none";document.getElementById("layer"+n).style.display="block"; }} Is it possible to adapt this script for this purpose? thank you

  • Convert Bitmap Files into JPEG using the GD library in PHP

    - by Daniel P
    I have been trying to figure out a way to convert bitmap files into a JPEG using the GD library in PHP. I have tried numerous implementations but nothing seems to work. I have tried to tell my client that they should not use Bitmap files but he insists and quite frankly does not comprehend enough about computers to convert them to JPG on his own. I can not use ImageMagick on this server and I need a pure GD solution. Thank you in advance for any and all help. EDIT: The bitmap images that are being used are 16-bit and that is where the problem is occurring. I have this function that I have working .... kinda: function ImageCreateFromBMP($filename) { if (! $f1 = fopen($filename,"rb")) return FALSE; $FILE = unpack("vfile_type/Vfile_size/Vreserved/Vbitmap_offset", fread($f1,14)); if ($FILE['file_type'] != 19778) return FALSE; $BMP = unpack('Vheader_size/Vwidth/Vheight/vplanes/vbits_per_pixel'. '/Vcompression/Vsize_bitmap/Vhoriz_resolution'. '/Vvert_resolution/Vcolors_used/Vcolors_important', fread($f1,40)); $BMP['colors'] = pow(2,$BMP['bits_per_pixel']); if ($BMP['size_bitmap'] == 0) $BMP['size_bitmap'] = $FILE['file_size'] - $FILE['bitmap_offset']; $BMP['bytes_per_pixel'] = $BMP['bits_per_pixel']/8; $BMP['bytes_per_pixel2'] = ceil($BMP['bytes_per_pixel']); $BMP['decal'] = ($BMP['width']*$BMP['bytes_per_pixel']/4); $BMP['decal'] -= floor($BMP['width']*$BMP['bytes_per_pixel']/4); $BMP['decal'] = 4-(4*$BMP['decal']); if ($BMP['decal'] == 4) $BMP['decal'] = 0; $PALETTE = array(); if ($BMP['colors'] < 16777216 && $BMP['colors'] != 65536) { $PALETTE = unpack('V'.$BMP['colors'], fread($f1,$BMP['colors']*4)); } $IMG = fread($f1,$BMP['size_bitmap']); $VIDE = chr(0); $res = imagecreatetruecolor($BMP['width'],$BMP['height']); $P = 0; $Y = $BMP['height']-1; while ($Y >= 0) { $X=0; while ($X < $BMP['width']) { if ($BMP['bits_per_pixel'] == 24) $COLOR = unpack("V",substr($IMG,$P,3).$VIDE); elseif ($BMP['bits_per_pixel'] == 16) { $COLOR = unpack("v",substr($IMG,$P,2)); $blue = ($COLOR[1] & 0x001f) << 3; $green = ($COLOR[1] & 0x07e0) >> 3; $red = ($COLOR[1] & 0xf800) >> 8; $COLOR[1] = $red * 65536 + $green * 256 + $blue; } elseif ($BMP['bits_per_pixel'] == 8) { $COLOR = unpack("n",$VIDE.substr($IMG,$P,1)); $COLOR[1] = $PALETTE[$COLOR[1]+1]; } elseif ($BMP['bits_per_pixel'] == 4) { $COLOR = unpack("n",$VIDE.substr($IMG,floor($P),1)); if (($P*2)%2 == 0) $COLOR[1] = ($COLOR[1] >> 4) ; else $COLOR[1] = ($COLOR[1] & 0x0F); $COLOR[1] = $PALETTE[$COLOR[1]+1]; } elseif ($BMP['bits_per_pixel'] == 1) { $COLOR = unpack("n",$VIDE.substr($IMG,floor($P),1)); if (($P*8)%8 == 0) $COLOR[1] = $COLOR[1] >>7; elseif (($P*8)%8 == 1) $COLOR[1] = ($COLOR[1] & 0x40)>>6; elseif (($P*8)%8 == 2) $COLOR[1] = ($COLOR[1] & 0x20)>>5; elseif (($P*8)%8 == 3) $COLOR[1] = ($COLOR[1] & 0x10)>>4; elseif (($P*8)%8 == 4) $COLOR[1] = ($COLOR[1] & 0x8)>>3; elseif (($P*8)%8 == 5) $COLOR[1] = ($COLOR[1] & 0x4)>>2; elseif (($P*8)%8 == 6) $COLOR[1] = ($COLOR[1] & 0x2)>>1; elseif (($P*8)%8 == 7) $COLOR[1] = ($COLOR[1] & 0x1); $COLOR[1] = $PALETTE[$COLOR[1]+1]; } else return FALSE; imagesetpixel($res,$X,$Y,$COLOR[1]); $X++; $P += $BMP['bytes_per_pixel']; } $Y--; $P+=$BMP['decal']; } fclose($f1); return $res; } The resulting image is this: If you look at the image on the left hand side you can see that the resulting image is not correctly lined up. The little sliver belongs on the right hand side. Where is the code going wrong? The problem is occurring in the 16-bit else-if. Thank you again for all the help.

  • VM image including ready-to-use Kerberos server?

    - by Nicolas Raoul
I implemented client-side Kerberos support to an open source software, and I want to test it. I don't have a Kerberos network at home and unfortunately don't have the skills/time to reliably set up one. Is there a Virtual Machine image that I could fire up, and that would include a properly working Kerberos environment, so that I can test my client app? (freely downloadable Linux/Microsoft/anything all acceptable)

  • Image thumbnails flashes and then disappears in Windows Vista

    - by Hemant
I have Windows Vista installed on my machine and I am facing this really annoying problem. Whenever I open a folder having images, image thumbnails appear for an instant and they are replaced by standard file icon. Argh... Points to note: Setting "Always show icon, never thumbnail" is unchecked Running Windows Aero theme (with transparency support) Have 4GB of RAM on my machine so memory is not a problem Please can you suggest a solution?
