  • MS SQL and Indentity column

    - by andrew007
Hi, I just noticed that if I have an identity column in a table, when I insert new rows MS SQL 2008 is automatically filling up the sequence if there are discontinuity. I mean, if in my identity column I have 1,2,5,6 if I insert other two rows in the table the system puts automatically 3,7 in the identity column. Do you know how to control this behavior? THANKS

  • ToolStripMenuItem not closing when a child ToolStripMenuItem is Clicked in a C# WinForm

    - by Poco
Is there a way to have a ToolStripMenuItem not closing when I click a child control (in its DropDrowItems Collection)? In my case, I have some ToolStripMenuItems that work as a check box. Actually, I implemented a radio behavior in some ToolStripMenuItems using their Check property. But I don't want the menu closing when I click any of them, because they aren't an action, they represent just options in the menu item. Is that possible?

  • Audio/video streaming on Windows platform

    - by bushtucker
I'm building an interactive language learning application to be used in a classroom environment. The idea is that a teacher should be able to talk to the students (=audio stream to all students), let students talk to each other (= audio P2P) in groups of two or more, let students watch a video coming from a the DVD player or coming from a media server. It should be possible to save the audio/video streams. The teacher should also be able to monitor, take-over or block the desktop of the students. The platform is Windows and it's a desktop application, no web application. The audio delay should be as minimal as poosible. Optionally a student sitting at home should be supported, but it's not a high priority. I am now finished with the classroom control part of the application (login, monitor, block, ...) and want to start the audio and video part. I've been evaluating several options like DirectX, GStreamer and SIP but now I have to make a decision. DirectX seems an obvious choice for the Windows platform, but it only lets me capture and playback audio and video. The encoding/decoding/network part I should do myself. GStreamer contains all kinds of options to capture/encode/stream/save audio and video streams. I've experimented a bit with it (ossbuild) and it does seem to involve a lot of trial and error to make something work: - microphone capture (via directsoundsrc) produces cracking noises on some computers - rtpL16 payloader didn't work well - streaming raw audio over the network only working at a sampling rate of 8000, no higher - there are a lot of errors when receiving mpeg4 video (bad I-frame), on some computers worse than others It is my impression that gstreamer is primary targetted at linux platforms. Development and support for the Windows platform seems to be a little behind. Nevertheless it's a powerful framework that could save me months and years of work. SIP seems to be able to do everything I want, but it is targeted towards telephony and IM. I don't know how flexible SIP is. It seems to me that the SIP layer would just be overhead as I already have a central (teacher) application that can control and setup all the streams. The interesting parts of frameworks like opalvoip and freeswitch are the actual audio/video capture, the encoding and transmission. Does anyone know how these interesting parts relate a framework like gstreamer? Are they easy to integrate into a custom application? Are they flexible enough? Does anyone have experience with all or one of these technologies? Maybe there are even other options I can look at? Many thanks for your advice

  • Sending Mail using PHP on IIS 7 - Windows 2008 Server

    - by Roman
Hi, I'm having trouble sending mail using PHP mail() on IIS 7 using Windows 2008 Server. The server is dedicated, thus I have full control over my machine. php.ini looks fine - ([mail function] is configured) I don't get any error from mail() (with the right parameters of course) btw - I got ASP and ASP.NET sending mails without any problems. Would be very gratefully for help Regards, Roman

  • IQueryable and lazy loading

    - by Nelson
I'm having a hard time determining the best way to handle this... With Entity Framework (and L2S), LINQ queries return IQueryable. I have read various opinions on whether the DAL/BLL should return IQueryable, IEnumerable or IList. Assuming we go with IList, then the query is run immediately and that control is not passed on to the next layer. This makes it easier to unit test, etc. You lose the ability to refine the query at higher levels, but you could simply create another method that allows you to refine the query and still return IList. And there are many more pros/cons. So far so good. Now comes Entity Framework and lazy loading. I am using POCO objects with proxies in .NET 4/VS 2010. In the presentation layer I do: foreach (Order order in bll.GetOrders()) { foreach (OrderLine orderLine in order.OrderLines) { // Do something } } In this case, GetOrders() returns IList so it executes immediately before returning to the PL. But in the next foreach, you have lazy loading which executes multiple SQL queries as it gets all the OrderLines. So basically, the PL is running SQL queries "on demand" in the wrong layer. Is there any sensible way to avoid this? I could turn lazy loading off, but then what's the point of having this "feature" that everyone was complaining EF1 didn't have? And I'll admit it is very useful in many scenarios. So I see several options: Somehow remove all associations in the entities and add methods to return them. This goes against the default EF behavior/code generation and makes it harder to do some composite (multiple entity) LINQ queries. It seems like a step backwards. I vote no. If we have lazy loading anyway which makes it hard to unit test, then go all the way and return IQueryable. You'll have more control farther up the layers. I still don't think this is a good option because IQueryable ties you to L2S, L2E, or your own full implementation of IQueryable. Lazy loading may run queries "on demand", but doesn't tie you to any specific interface. I vote no. Turn off lazy loading. You'll have to handle your associations manually. This could be with eager loading's .Include(). I vote yes in some specific cases. Keep IList and lazy loading. I vote yes in many cases, only due to the troubles with the others. Any other options or suggestions? I haven't found an option that really convinces me.

  • Send an onclick to a dropdown list

    - by P Nelson
Is it possible to show the list of items in a dropdown list when the user presses the up or down arrow keys, when focus is on that dropdown control? I think this would involve sending an onclick to the dropdown list using onkeydown for Keycode 38(arrow up) & 40(arrow down)? But I cannot figure out how to do this.

  • can not access MovieClip properties in flashDevelop

    - by numerical25
    I know there is something I am doing wrong. In my controls I have keydown events that control my hero. As of right now, I am trying to rotate my hero but he refuses to turn . Below is my Hero Class, my control class, and gameobject class. pretty much all the classes associate with the controls class. package com.Objects { import com.Objects.GameObject; /** * ... * @author Anthony Gordon */ [Embed(source='../../../bin/Assets.swf', symbol='OuterRim')] public class Hero extends GameObject { public function Hero() { } } } Here is my Controls class. This is the class where I am trying to rotate my hero but he doesnt. The keydown event does work cause I trace it. package com.Objects { import com.Objects.Hero; import flash.events.*; import flash.display.MovieClip; /** * ... * @author Anthony Gordon */ public class Controls extends GameObject { private var aKeyPress:Array; public var ship:Hero; public function Controls(ship:Hero) { this.ship = ship; IsDisplay = false; aKeyPress = new Array(); engine.sr.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyDownListener); engine.sr.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP,keyUpListener); } private function keyDownListener(e:KeyboardEvent):void { //trace("down e.keyCode=" + e.keyCode); aKeyPress[e.keyCode] = true; trace(e.keyCode); } private function keyUpListener(e:KeyboardEvent):void { //trace("up e.keyCode=" + e.keyCode); aKeyPress[e.keyCode]=false; } override public function UpdateObject():void { Update(); } private function Update():void { if (aKeyPress[37])//Key press left ship.rotation += 3,trace(ship.rotation ); ///DOESNT ROtate }//End Controls } } Here is GameObject Class package com.Objects { import com.Objects.Engine; import com.Objects.IGameObject; import flash.display.MovieClip; /** * ... * @author Anthony Gordon */ public class GameObject extends MovieClip implements IGameObject { private var isdisplay:Boolean = true; private var garbage:Boolean; public static var engine:Engine; public var layer:Number = 0; public function GameObject() { } public function UpdateObject():void { } public function GarbageCollection():void { } public function set Garbage(garb:Boolean):void { garbage = garb; } public function get Garbage():Boolean { return garbage } public function get IsDisplay():Boolean { return isdisplay; } public function set IsDisplay(display:Boolean):void { isdisplay = display; } public function set Layer(l:Number):void { layer = l; } public function get Layer():Number { return layer } } }

  • What "exotic" language feature do you use every day?

    - by fmark
For most programmers using procedural or object-oriented languages there is a language-feature lowest common denominator: variables, procedures, standard control structures, and classes. However, almost all languages add features on top of this. Recent C# versions have LINQ and delegates. C++ has template metaprogramming. Java has annotations. What features such as these do you use every day?

  • Coroutines in Java

    - by JUST MY correct OPINION
I would like to do some stuff in Java that would be clearer if written using concurrent routines, but for which full-on threads are serious overkill. The answer, of course, is the use of coroutines, but there doesn't appear to be any coroutine support in the standard Java libraries and a quick Google on it brings up tantalising hints here or there, but nothing substantial. Here's what I've found so far: JSIM has a coroutine class, but it looks pretty heavyweight and conflates, seemingly, with threads at points. The point of this is to reduce the complexity of full-on threading, not to add to it. Further I'm not sure that the class can be extracted from the library and used independently. Xalan has a coroutine set class that does coroutine-like stuff, but again it's dubious if this can be meaningfully extracted from the overall library. It also looks like it's implemented as a tightly-controlled form of thread pool, not as actual coroutines. There's a Google Code project which looks like what I'm after, but if anything it looks more heavyweight than using threads would be. I'm basically nervous of something that requires software to dynamically change the JVM bytecode at runtime to do its work. This looks like overkill and like something that will cause more problems than coroutines would solve. Further it looks like it doesn't implement the whole coroutine concept. By my glance-over it gives a yield feature that just returns to the invoker. Proper coroutines allow yields to transfer control to any known coroutine directly. Basically this library, heavyweight and scary as it is, only gives you support for iterators, not fully-general coroutines. The promisingly-named Coroutine for Java fails because it's a platform-specific (obviously using JNI) solution. And that's about all I've found. I know about the native JVM support for coroutines in the Da Vinci Machine and I also know about the JNI continuations trick for doing this. These are not really good solutions for me, however, as I would not necessarily have control over which VM or platform my code would run on. (Indeed any bytecode manipulation system would suffer similar problems -- it would be best were this pure Java if possible. Runtime bytecode manipulation would restrict me from using this on Android, for example.) So does anybody have any pointers? Is this even possible? If not, will it be possible in Java 7?

  • How can I get System.Type from "System.Drawing.Color" string

    - by jonny
I have an xml stored property of some control <Prop Name="ForeColor" Type="System.Drawing.Color" Value="-16777216" /> I want to convert it back as others System.Type type = System.Type.GetType(propertyTypeString); object propertyObj = TypeDescriptor.GetConverter(type).ConvertFromString(propertyValueString); System.Type.GetType("System.Drawing.Color") returns null. The question is how one can correctly get color type from string (it will be better not to do a special case just for Color properties) Update from time to time this xml will be edited by hand
