• Can't get tokens when using OAuth with LinkedIn API

  Hi, was wondering if anyone can help me to get this basic OAuth implementation to work using the LinkedIn API: The output for the indexes oauth_token and oauth_token_secret are blank. The file I refer to in OAuth.php are a set of classes to help generate the token requests and tokens. • MySQL died during the night on a 12.04.1 Ubuntu

  I can't explain why, but somehow during the night, one of my MySQL running on an Ubuntu 12.04.1 box broke. The service is running but I can't login anymore (to SQL), the previous password is not working anymore. It does not looks like the server has been compromised (nothing in /var/auth.log) It looks like some automatic security upgrade (server is configured to perform those) has occured and broke something. The MySQL server has restarted a couple of times in the logs at the time errors started to happen (I get email when CRON task fail). In the logs it complains about an unset root password (I do have cron job running all day using SQL so the password was set & working for months). Anyway I can't login without password either! Do you have any idea of what could have happened? How do I get my databases back? • DynamicMethod for ConstructorInfo.Invoke, what do I need to consider?

  My question is this: If I'm going to build a DynamicMethod object, corresponding to a ConstructorInfo.Invoke call, what types of IL do I need to implement in order to cope with all (or most) types of arguments, when I can guarantee that the right type and number of arguments is going to be passed in before I make the call? Background I am on my 3rd iteration of my IoC container, and currently doing some profiling to figure out if there are any areas where I can easily shave off large amounts of time being used. One thing I noticed is that when resolving to a concrete type, ultimately I end up with a constructor being called, using ConstructorInfo.Invoke, passing in an array of arguments that I've worked out. What I noticed is that the invoke method has quite a bit of overhead, and I'm wondering if most of this is just different implementations of the same checks I do. For instance, due to the constructor matching code I have, to find a matching constructor for the predefined parameter names, types, and values that I have passed in, there's no way this particular invoke call will not end up with something it should be able to cope with, like the correct number of arguments, in the right order, of the right type, and with appropriate values. When doing a profiling session containing a million calls to my resolve method, and then replacing it with a DynamicMethod implementation that mimics the Invoke call, the profiling timings was like this: ConstructorInfo.Invoke: 1973ms DynamicMethod: 93ms This accounts for around 20% of the total runtime of this profiling application. In other words, by replacing the ConstructorInfo.Invoke call with a DynamicMethod that does the same, I am able to shave off 20% runtime when dealing with basic factory-scoped services (ie. all resolution calls end up with a constructor call). I think this is fairly substantial, and warrants a closer look at how much work it would be to build a stable DynamicMethod generator for constructors in this context. So, the dynamic method would take in an object array, and return the constructed object, and I already know the ConstructorInfo object in question. Therefore, it looks like the dynamic method would be made up of the following IL: l001: ldarg.0 ; the object array containing the arguments l002: ldc.i4.0 ; the index of the first argument l003: ldelem.ref ; get the value of the first argument l004: castclass T ; cast to the right type of argument (only if not "Object") (repeat l001-l004 for all parameters, l004 only for non-Object types, varying l002 constant from 0 and up for each index) l005: newobj ci ; call the constructor l006: ret Is there anything else I need to consider? Note that I'm aware that creating dynamic methods will probably not be available when running the application in "reduced access mode" (sometimes the brain just won't give up those terms), but in that case I can easily detect that and just calling the original constructor as before, with the overhead and all.

• Handling Model Inheritance in ASP.NET MVC2 & NHibernate

  I've gotten myself stuck on how to handle inheritance in my model when it comes to my controllers/views. Basic Model: public class Procedure : Entity { public Procedure() { } public int Id { get; set; } public DateTime ProcedureDate { get; set; } public ProcedureType Type { get; set; } } public ProcedureA : Procedure { public double VariableA { get; set; } public int VariableB { get; set; } public int Total { get; set; } } public ProcedureB : Procedure { public int Score { get; set; } } etc... many of different procedures eventually. So, I do things like list all the procedures: public class ProcedureController : Controller { public virtual ActionResult List() { IEnumerable<Procedure> procedures = _repository.GetAll(); return View(procedures); } } but now I'm kinda stuck. Basically, from the list page, I need to link to pages where the specific subclass details can be viewed/edited and I'm not sure what the best strategy is. I thought I could add an action on the ProcedureController that would conjure up the right subclass by dynamically figuring out what repository to use and loading the subclass to pass to the view. I had to store the class in the ProcedureType object. I'm wondering if this is a good approach? This makes determining the URL easy. It makes reusing the Procedure display code easy. Another approach is specific controllers for each subclass. It simplifies the controller code, but also means many simple controllers for the many procedure subclasses. Can work out the shared Procedure details with a partial view. How to get to construct the URL to get to the controller/action in the first place? Time to not think about it. Hopefully someone can show me the light. Thanks in advance.

• XML Socket and Regular Socket in Flash/Flex does not send message immediately.

  I am trying to build a basic RIA where my Flex application client opens an XML socket, sends the xml message "people_list" to server, and prints out the response. I have ruby at the server side and I have successfully set up the security policy stuff. The ruby xml server, successfully accepts the connections from Flex, successfully detects when they are closed and can also send messages to client. But; there is a problem... It cannot receive messages from flex client. The messages sent from flex client are queued and sent as one package when the socket is closed. Therefore, the whole wait-for-request-then-reply thing is not working... This is also -kinda- mentioned in the XMLSocket.send() document, where it is stated that the messages are sent async so; they may be delivered at any time in future. But; I need them to be synced, flushed or whatever.   i have no option to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on my computer. Why is the option to install Windows 7 SP1 missing from Windows Update? i'm less interested in why the option is missing, and more interested in how to diagnose why the option to install Windows 7 SP1 is being hidden. • How to best design a date/geographic proximity query on GAE?

  Hi all, I'm building a directory for finding athletic tournaments on GAE with web2py and a Flex front end. The user selects a location, a radius, and a maximum date from a set of choices. I have a basic version of this query implemented, but it's inefficient and slow. One way I know I can improve it is by condensing the many individual queries I'm using to assemble the objects into bulk queries. I just learned that was possible. But I'm also thinking about a more extensive redesign that utilizes memcache. The main problem is that I can't query the datastore by location because GAE won't allow multiple numerical comparison statements (<,<=,=,) in one query. I'm already using one for date, and I'd need TWO to check both latitude and longitude, so it's a no go. Currently, my algorithm looks like this: 1.) Query by date and select 2.) Use destination function from geopy's distance module to find the max and min latitude and longitudes for supplied distance 3.) Loop through results and remove all with lat/lng outside max/min 4.) Loop through again and use distance function to check exact distance, because step 2 will include some areas outside the radius. Remove results outside supplied distance (is this 2/3/4 combination inefficent?) 5.) Assemble many-to-many lists and attach to objects (this is where I need to switch to bulk operations) 6.) Return to client Here's my plan for using memcache.. let me know if I'm way out in left field on this as I have no prior experience with memcache or server caching in general. -Keep a list in the cache filled with "geo objects" that represent all my data. These have five properties: latitude, longitude, event_id, event_type (in anticipation of expanding beyond tournaments), and start_date. This list will be sorted by date. -Also keep a dict of pointers in the cache which represent the start and end indices in the cache for all the date ranges my app uses (next week, 2 weeks, month, 3 months, 6 months, year, 2 years). -Have a scheduled task that updates the pointers daily at 12am. -Add new inserts to the cache as well as the datastore; update pointers. Using this design, the algorithm would now look like: 1.) Use pointers to slice off appropriate chunk of list based on supplied date. 2-4.) Same as above algorithm, except with geo objects 5.) Use bulk operation to select full tournaments using remaining geo objects' event_ids 6.) Assemble many-to-manys 7.) Return to client Thoughts on this approach? • Displaytag table exported header column contains span tags

  Hi, When I export the content of the display tag table I use the data shows up fine, but the header cells are surrounded by html span tags, which is slightly annoying. I can imagine why Displaytag uses spans around the column header's text, but it shouldn't transpose in the exported data I think. • Django app that can provide user friendly, multiple / mass file upload functionality to other apps

  Hi, I'm going to be honest: this is a question I asked on the Django-Users mailinglist last week. Since I didn't get any replies there yet, I'm reposting it on Stack Overflow in the hope that it gets more attention here. I want to create an app that makes it easy to do user friendly, multiple / mass file upload in your own apps. With user friendly I mean upload like Gmail, Flickr, ... where the user can select multiple files at once in the browse file dialog. The files are then uploaded sequentially or in parallel and a nice overview of the selected files is shown on the page with a progress bar next to them. A 'Cancel' upload button is also a possible option. All that niceness is usually solved by using a Flash object. Complete solutions are out there for the client side, like: SWFUpload http://swfupload.org/ , FancyUpload http://digitarald.de/project/fancyupload/ , YUI 2 Uploader http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/uploader/ and probably many more. Ofcourse the trick is getting those solutions integrated in your project. Especially in a framework like Django, double so if you want it to be reusable. So, I have a few ideas, but I'm neither an expert on Django nor on Flash based upload solutions. I'll share my ideas here in the hope of getting some feedback from more knowledgeable and experienced people. (Or even just some 'I want this too!' replies :) ) You will notice that I make a few assumptions: this is to keep the (initial) scope of the application under control. These assumptions are of course debatable: All right, my idea's so far: If you want to mass upload multiple files, you are going to have a model to contain each file in. I.e. the model will contain one FileField or one ImageField. Models with multiple (but ofcourse finite) amount of FileFields/ ImageFields are not in need of easy mass uploading imho: if you have a model with 100 FileFields you are doing something wrong :) Examples where you would want my envisioned kind of mass upload: An app that has just one model 'Brochure' with a file field, a title field (dynamically created from the filename) and a date_added field. A photo gallery app with models 'Gallery' and 'Photo'. You pick a Gallery to add pictures to, upload the pictures and new Photo objects are created and foreign keys set to the chosen Gallery. It would be nice to be able to configure or extend the app for your favorite Flash upload solution. We can pick one of the three above as a default, but implement the app so that people can easily add additional implementations (kinda like Django can use multiple databases). Let it be agnostic to any particular client side solution. If we need to pick one to start with, maybe pick the one with the smallest footprint? (smallest download of client side stuff) The Flash based solutions asynchronously (and either sequentially or in parallel) POST the files to a url. I suggest that url to be local to our generic app (so it's the same for every app where you use our app in). That url will go to a view provided by our generic app. The view will do the following: create a new model instance, add the file, OPTIONALLY DO EXTRA STUFF and save the instance. DO EXTRA STUFF is code that the app that uses our app wants to run. It doesn't have to provide any extra code, if the model has just a FileField/ImageField the standard view code will do the job. But most app will want to do extra stuff I think, like filling in the other fields: title, date_added, foreignkeys, manytomany, ... I have not yet thought about a mechanism for DO EXTRA STUFF. Just wrapping the generic app view came to mind, but that is not developer friendly, since you would have to write your own url pattern and your own view. Then you have to tell the Flash solutions to use a new url etc... I think something like signals could be used here? Forms/Admin: I'm still very sketchy on how all this could best be integrated in the Admin or generic Django forms/widgets/... (and this is were my lack of Django experience shows): In the case of the Gallery/Photo app: You could provide a mass Photo upload widget on the Gallery detail form. But what if the Gallery instance is not saved yet? The file upload view won't be able to set the foreignkeys on the Photo instances. I see that the auth app, when you create a user, first asks for username and password and only then provides you with a bigger form to fill in emailadres, pick roles etc. We could do something like that. In the case of an app with just one model: How do you provide a form in the Django admin to do your mass upload? You can't do it with the detail form of your model, that's just for one model instance. exist for the emailaddress dont update data else create a user and update its profilexml from data fecthed from gedcom. for this i think i need some soln by which i can do only one roundtrip to database and can update all user's xml. or i can execute one sp to get userid from all users where i'll check if user exist then return userid else insert basic data and return inserted userid then for every user make xml from data and update it. please provide be suggestion what is best practice to do this kind of development. if need any more details please write me

• Which OAuth library do you find works best for Objective-C/iPhone?

  I have been looking to switch to OAuth for my Twitter integration code and now that there is a deadline in less than 7 weeks (see countdown link) it is even more important to make the jump to OAuth. I have been doing Basic Authentication which is extremely easy. Unfortunately OAuth does not appear to be something that I would whip together in a couple of hours. http://www.countdowntooauth.com/ So I am looking to use a library. I have put together the following list. MPOAuth MGTwitterEngine OAuthConsumer I see that MPOAuth has some great features with a good deal of testing code in place but there is one big problem. It does not work. The sample iPhone project that is supposed to authenticate with Twitter causes an error which others have identified and logged as a bug. http://code.google.com/p/mpoauthconnection/issues/detail?id=29 The last code change was March 11 and this bug was filed on March 30. It has been over a month and this critical bug has not been fixed yet. So I have moved on to MGTwitterEngine. I pulled down the source code and loaded it up in Xcode. Immediately I find that there are a few dependencies and the README file does not have a clear list of steps to fetch those dependencies and integrate them with the project so that it builds successfully. I see this as a sign that the project is not mature enough for prime time. I see also that the project references 2 libraries for JSON when one should be enough. One is TouchJSON which has worked well for me so I am again discouraged from relying on this project for my applications. I did find that MGTwitterEngine makes use of OAuthConsumer which is one of many OAuth projects hosted by an OAuth project on Google Code. http://code.google.com/p/oauth/ http://code.google.com/p/oauthconsumer/wiki/UsingOAuthConsumer It looks like OAuthConsumer is a good choice at first glance. It is hosted with other OAuth libraries and has some nice documentation with it. I pulled down the code and it builds without errors but it does have many warnings. And when I run the new Build and Analyze feature in Xcode 3.2 I see 50 analyzer results. Many are marked as potential memory leaks which would likely lead to instability in any app which uses this library. It seems there is no clear winner and I have to go with something before the big Twitter OAuth deadline. Any suggestions?

• Using FFmpeg in .net?

  So i know its a fairly big challenge but i want to write a basic movie player/converter in c# using the FFmpeg library. However the first obstacle i need to overcome is wrapping the FFmpeg library in c#. I downloaded ffmpeg but couldn't compile it on windows, so i downloaded a precompiled version for me. Ok awesome. Then i started looking for c# wrappers. I have looked around and have found a few wrappers such as SharpFFmpeg (http://sourceforge.net/projects/sharpffmpeg/) and ffmpeg-sharp (http://code.google.com/p/ffmpeg-sharp/). First of all i wanted to use ffmpeg-sharp as its LGPL and SharpFFmpeg is GPL. However it had quite a few compile errors. Turns out it was written for the mono compiler, i tried compiling it with mon but couldn't figure out how. I then started to manually fix the compiler errors myself, but came across a few scary ones and thought i'd better leave those alone. So i gave up on ffmpeg-sharp. Then i looked at SharpFFmpeg and it looks like what i want, all the functions P/Invoked for me. However its GPL? Both the AVCodec.cs and AVFormat.cs files look like ports of avcodec.c and avformat.c which i reckon i could port myself? Then not have to worry about licencing. But i wan't to get this right before i go ahead and start coding. Should I: Write my own c++ library for interacting with ffmpeg, then have my c# program talk to the c++ library in order to play/convert videos etc. OR Port avcodec.h and avformat.h (is that all i need?) to c# by using a whole lot of DllImports and write it entirely in c#? First of all consider that i'm not great at c++ as i rarely use it but i know enough to get around. The reason i'm thinking #1 might be the better option is that most FFmpeg tutorials are in c++ and i'd also have more control over memory management than if i was to do it in c#. What do you think? Also would you happen to have any usefull links (perhaps a tutorial) for using FFmpeg? EDIT: spelling mistakes

• Delphi native Web Service applications not working. IIS 7 seems to be stripping the pathinfo

  I've run into an interesting problem that I never encountered with XP or IIS 6. Basically, I can't get a native Delphi (WebBroker) Web service server to work with a native Web service client in Windows 7 64-bit. Here's the most basic breakdown. If I create a new Web service application in Delphi 2010 (or any version, back to Delphi 7), and access it using IE 8, I can see the HTML that the WSDLHTMLPublish component creates, but I can never get to the SOAP. In the same way, the WSDL Importer cannot get to the SOAP either. (I have IIS 7 configured to use a 32-bit application pool, and I have created a working Script Map to the Handler Mappings. In short, the 32-bit ISAPI Web service is running). For example, I have a simple Web service server named TestService (created using the default sample interface generated when you create a new Web service server). I installed it in a virtual directory named scripts. If I enter http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll/wsdl, IIS 7 displays the page http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll. If I put my mouse over the WSDL link for the ITestService, I see http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll/wsdl/ITestService in the status bar. However, when I click this link, the address bar shows http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll/wsdl/ITestService, but I see only the HTML from http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll. There seems no way to get to the SOAP definition. IIS 7 seems to be ignoring everything after the script name (it is ignoring the pathinfo). Additional evidence that IIS7 is stripping off the pathinfo is that if I pause my mouse over the ITestService link, the statusbar shows http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll?intf=ITestService. Clicking that link takes me to another HTML page, the one associated with http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll?intf=ITestService. However, any link that includes a pathinfo following the script name, takes me simply to http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll. I have tested this in Delphi 7, Delphi 2010, and Delphi XE, with the same results. I am guessing that IIS7 is stripping off the pathinfo, since even the WSDL Importer cannot get to the SOAP definition. Tried creating a new Web service using the CGI option, and got the same result. Have any idea what is going on? Added: Bob Swart reports he has had no problems under Windows 7 32-bit. Downloading the 32-bit OS and will try that (in a new VM).

• How to Connect Crystal Reports to MySQL directly by C# code without DSN or a DataSet

  How can I connect a Crystal Report (VS 2008 basic) to a MySQL DB without using a DSN or a preload DataSet using C#? I need install the program on several places, so I must change the connection parameters. I don't want to create a DSN on every place, nor do I want to preload a DataSet and pass it to the report engine. I use nhibernate to access the database, so to create and fill the additional DS would take twice the work and additional maintenance later. I think the best option would be to let the crystal reports engine to connect to MySQL server by itself using ODBC. I managed to create the connection in the report designer (VS2008) using the Database Expert, creating an ODBC(RDO) connection and entering this connection string "DRIVER={MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver};SERVER=myserver.mydomain" and in the "Next" page filling the "User ID", "Password" and "Database" parameters. I didn't fill the "Server" parameter. It worked. As a matter of fact, if you use the former connection string, it doesn't matter what you put on the "Server" parameter, it seems the parameter is unused. On the other hand, if you use "DRIVER={MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver}" as a connection string and later fill the "Server" parameter with the FQDN of the server, the connection doesn't work. How can I do that by code? All the examples I've seen till now, use a DSN or the DataSet method. I saw the same question posted but for PostgreSQL and tried to adapt it to mysql, but so far, no success. • Smooth animation using MatrixTransform?

  I'm trying to do an Matrix animation where I both scale and transpose a canvas at the same time. The only approach I found was using a MatrixTransform and MatrixAnimationUsingKeyFrames. Since there doesnt seem to be any interpolation for matrices built in (only for path/rotate) it seems the only choice is to try and build the interpolation and DiscreteMatrixKeyFrame's yourself. I did a basic implementation of this but it isnt exactly smooth and I'm not sure if this is the best way and how to handle framerates etc. Anyone have suggestions for improvement?   I'm completely new to Haskell (and more generally to functional programming), so forgive me if this is really basic stuff. To get more than a taste, I try to implement in Haskell some algorithmic stuff I'm working on. I have a simple module Interval that implements intervals on the line. It contains the type data Interval t = Interval t t the helper function makeInterval :: (Ord t) => t -> t -> Interval t makeInterval l r | l <= r = Interval l r | otherwise = error "bad interval" and some utility functions about intervals. Here, my interest lies in multidimensional intervals (d-intervals), those objects that are composed of d intervals. I want to separately consider d-intervals that are the union of d disjoint intervals on the line (multiple interval) from those that are the union of d interval on d separate lines (track interval). With distinct algorithmic treatments in mind, I think it would be nice to have two distinct types (even if both are lists of intervals here) such as import qualified Interval as I -- Multilple interval newtype MInterval t = MInterval [I.Interval t] -- Track interval newtype TInterval t = TInterval [I.Interval t] to allow for distinct sanity checks, e.g. makeMInterval :: (Ord t) => [I.Interval t] -> MInterval t makeMInterval is = if foldr (&&) True [I.precedes i i' | (i, i') <- zip is (tail is)] then (MInterval is) else error "bad multiple interval" makeTInterval :: (Ord t) => [I.Interval t] -> TInterval t makeTInterval = TInterval I now get to the point, at last! Adding -- Dimensional interval data DInterval t = MIntervalStuff (MInterval t) | TIntervalStuff (TInterval t) does not help much, since, if I understand well (correct me if I'm wrong), I would have to write order :: DInterval t -> Int order (MIntervalStuff (MInterval is)) = length is order (TIntervalStuff (TInterval is)) = length is and call order as order (MIntervalStuff is) or order (TIntervalStuff is) when is is a MInterval or a TInterval. Not that great, it looks odd. Neither I want to duplicate the function (I have many functions that are concerned with both multiple and track intevals, and some other d-interval definitions such as equal length multiple and track intervals). I'm left with the feeling that I'm completely wrong and have missed some important point about types in Haskell (and/or can't forget enough here about OO programming). So, quite a newbie question, what would be the best way in Haskell to deal with such a situation? Do I have to forget about introducing MInterval and TInterval and go with one type only? • Running Command via Java ProccesBuilder Different to Running the same in the Shell

  I'm tearing my hair out trying to work out why the command I'm executing via Java using a ProcessBuilder & Process is not working. I run the "same" command at the Windows command line and it works as expected. It must be that they're not the same but I can't for the life of me work out why. The command is this: ccm start -nogui -m -q -n ccm_admin -r developer -d /path/to/db/databasename -s http://hostname:8400 -pw Passw0rd789$ The output is should be a single line string that I need to grab and set as an environment variable (hence the v. basic use of the BufferedReader). • Using XMLDecoder to cast Encoded XML to List<>

  I am writing an application that reads in a large number of basic user details in the following format; once read in it then allows the user to search for a user's details using their email: NAME ROLE EMAIL --------------------------------------------------- Joe Bloggs Manager [email protected] John Smith Consultant [email protected] Alan Wright Tester [email protected] ... The problem I am suffering is that I need to store a large number of details of all people that have worked at the company. The file containing these details will be written on a yearly basis simply for reporting purposes, but the program will need to be able to access these details quickly. The way I aim to access these files is to have a program that asks the user for the name of the unique email of the member of staff and for the program to then return the name and the role from that line of the file. I've played around with text files, but am struggling with how I would handle multiple columns of data when it comes to searching this large file. What is the best format to store such data in? A text file? XML? The size doesn't bother me, but I'd like to be able to search it as quickly as possible. The file will need to contain a lot of entries, probably over the 10K mark over time. EDIT: I've decided to go with the XML serialisation method. I've managed to get the code for Encoding working perfectly, but the Decoding code below does not work. EDIT 2: I've looked a bit more into the problem and have come across Serialization as a potential answer. If anyone can look into this for me as I've no experience with Serialization or Deserialization I'd be very grateful. It can provide an Object with no problems whatsoever, but I really need to return it in the same format as it went in (List). EDIT 3: Ugh, this problem is really starting to drive me crazy and to be honest I'm starting to think that it's an unsolvable problem. If possible, could someone take a look at the code and help provide a solution for me?

  I am using the Tomcat JDBC Connection Pool with OpenJPA in a web application. The application does not see updated data. Specifically, another java application adds or removes records from the database, but the web application never sees these updates. This is quite a serious issue. I must be missing something basic. If I remove the Connection Pool from the implementation, the web application sees the updates. It's as if the web application's commits are never called on the Connection. • Sticky Footer Dilemma - so close

  I have an effective sticky footer solution, but I have a slight conflict because of the need for a background image in addition to the repeating banner image across the top. In order to make the large watermark type image show up on this site I added the following div: <div id="body-outer"> The only problem is that once I add this div tag, the footer climbs up the page, overriding all content in its path. If I remove that div, the footer is as sticky as one could hope. Is there some way to have the background image and the sticky footer too?
