• Inbound connections to a ubuntu machine running a VPN

  Is it possible to open inbound connections to a machine connected to a VPN server? The machine is running ubuntu 9.10 with two network devices(a wireless card and ethernet port), I can connect to my machine locally using a local ip but when I try port forward using my router I can't connect from my external ip. Is there a way around this? I figure with 2 network devices I can vpn over one and use the other for inbound connections but I can't figure out how to do this. Thanks

• Root SSH/SFTP Always 777

  I have an Ubuntu serve that I'm connecting to via SFTP (and also an SSHFS mount locally). When I move a file to the server via the mount I need it to have permissions set to 777. I've added umask 000 to the .bashrc file at the advice of a friend and it doesn't appear to be working. Basically I'm working completely in a restricted folder and need the root to always leave the permissions open - wether I'm SSH'ed in or moving files to the server.

• Changing KDE settings so it doesn't try to restore the session when I log in

  I am on a machine that has OpenSUSE 11.1 and KDE 4. Whenever I log in, KDE 4 starts up all the apps I had open during the previous session. I do not see a KDE 4 control panel anywhere. Is there a command for opening one up? Thanks, SetJmp

  Every time I open iTunes I get the the following warning: Do you want the application "iTunes.app" to accept incoming network connections? Clicking Deny may limit the application's behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences. I always click "Allow" but it still pops up. I set the OS X firewall to allow incoming connections for iTunes. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

• Excel 2007 charts disappearing

  I have an Excel 2007 file with macros and VB (.xlsm) and one of the worksheets has charts. When I open the file those charts are shown. However when I CTRL+Scroll to zoom in the charts vanish. • How do you hide Windows 7 Explorer Toolbar and Property Bar?

  In Windows 7, Windows Explorer has a large bar just above the status bar that contains properties of the highlighted item. Is it possible to hide this? It takes up a significant amount of screen space I'd prefer using in the file listing. Also, is it possible to hide the tool bar for the same reason? That's what I'm calling the bar near the top with "Organize, Open, Include in Library, Share With..."

If I log into guest account and search my name it shows an error that i don't have permission.   I have set up a mercurial repo to be served using apache+wsgi+hgweb on OS X. It is now completely open to anyone who stumbles upon my server on the correct port number.. How can I set it up so that only people with a username+password pair that I approve can pull and/or push from the repo? I know how to very easily achieve this using ssh, but in this specific case the requirement is that the solution doesn't require defining full fledged user accounts on the machine for each person whom I'd like to give access to the repo.

• How do you run the previous command in emacs shell?

  I am in terminal mode on Ubuntu, and I'm running emacs with 2 buffers open, one is a ruby file, and the other is a shell (opened by typing M-x shell ), and when I switch to the shell buffer, I want to run the same command that I ran before. I would normally just hit the up arrow in a terminal window, but in emacs, it simply puts the cursor up one line. Does anyone know of keystroke to run the previous shell command from within an emacs shell?

Of course, 30Gb is far too large for a single dvd and the content is already zipped. • OS X Terminal showing incorrect hostname

  I have a brand new MacBook Air. The reason I mention this is that I want to be clear that I don't think I'm responsible for this problem, as I haven't been hacking up my prefs. Anyhow... When I open Terminal I expect it to show what my PS1 is set to (\h:\W \u\$) however it's not displaying my hostname (Eriks-MacBook), as displayed in System Preferences, it's showing some random string (unknownb88d120cd4b2).
