  • .config file not loaded from working directory

    - by Phil Coveney
I am new to using .config files, having worked on apps that use .INI files and the registry until very recently. I am seeing a behavior in VS2008 that I would not anticipate, and wonder if it is the expected one. When I configure the Working Directory setting in the VS2008 IDE for my Foo.exe application, I would have guessed that Foo.exe.config would get loaded from that Working Directory. It does not; it gets loaded from the ..\bin\Debug directory, even if I have a Foo.exe.config file in that Working Directory. If I examine the Environment.CurrentDirectory while the configuration is being applied by setting a breakpoint, I see that it is ..\bin\Debug. When I examine the Environment.CurrentDirectory after my main UI's Loaded event, it is set to the Working Directory I applied in the IDE. Is this correct? (Why?)

  • WCF Service error received when using TCP: "The message could not be dispatched..."

    - by StM
I am new to creating WCF services. I have created a WCF web service in VS2008 that is running on IIS 7. When I use http the service works perfectly. When I configure the service for TCP and run I get the following error message. There was a communication problem. The message could not be dispatched because the service at the endpoint address 'net:tcp://elec:9090/CoordinateIdTool_Tcp/IdToolService.svc is unavailable for the protocol of the address. I have searched a lot of forums, including this one, for a resolution but nothing has worked. Everything appears to be set up correctly on IIS 7. WAS has been set up to run. The default web site has a net.tcp binding and the application has net.tcp under the enabled protocols. I am including what I think is the important part of the web.config from the host project and also the app.config from the client project I am using to test the service. Hopefully someone can spot my error. Thanks in advance for any help or recommendations that anyone can provide. • NUnit for VS has suddenly bombed.. Anyone else experience this?

    - by Ian P
I'm getting the following set of errors in a project, that previously worked fine, from NUnit for VS when I try to run either individual or all of the tests in a given solution. Error loading C:\Path to Application\Application\Application.ApplicationTests\bin\Debug\Application.ApplicationTests.dll: The method or operation is not implemented. Error loading C:\Path to Application\Application\Application.FileDetectorTests\bin\Debug\FileDetectorTests.dll: The method or operation is not implemented. Error loading C:\Path to Application\Application\Application.PresentationTests\bin\Debug\Application.PresentationTests.dll: The method or operation is not implemented. Error loading C:\Path to Application\Application\Application.DomainTests\bin\Debug\Application.DomainTests.dll: The method or operation is not implemented. I've verified that each project is setup with the appropriate ProjectTypeGuids for a test project in the Project file. I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling NUnit for VS, but have had no luck. Does anyone have any advice as to how I might start troubleshooting this? If I open each individual test project outside of the main solution (that includes all projects, by the way,) and save it as it's own solution, they run just fine. Nothing of note has changed since this stopped working. Thanks! Ian

  • How to Compute a Database Column in .NET

    - by Michael
I have a Database named CarsType.accdb there are four fields in the data base Item_Name, Item_Num, Item_Qty, Item_Cost. I am able to get the database to display my data in VisualBasic but I am not sure how to get the total cost to appear in my label (lblTotalCost). I prefer doing it in VB versus writing in my access program. All I am wanting to do it multiply item_qty * Item_Cost How would I go about doing that?

  • why must you provide the keyword const in operator overloads

    - by numerical25
Just curious on why a param has to be a const in operation overloading CVector& CVector::operator= (const CVector& param) { x=param.x; y=param.y; return *this; } couldn't you have easily done something like this ?? CVector& CVector::operator= (CVector& param) //no const { x=param.x; y=param.y; return *this; } Isn't when something becomes a const, it is unchangeable for the remainder of the applications life ?? How does this differ in operation overloading ???

  • Why are types found on an imported namepace but not on a fully qualified namespace after retargeting the framework?

    - by Paul Ferguson
We've just re-targeted a VB.NET project from .Net 2.0 to 3.5. Various framework types are now missing from our project. Wherever the type is referenced using a fully qualified namespace it's missing. If the relevant namespace is imported for the type; it's found. For example, this doesn't find the type Object, with compiler error "System.Object is not defined.": Public Class Foo Inherits System.Object End Class However, this works ok: Imports System Public Class Foo Inherits [Object] End Class I've already tried re-opening the solution with no success.

  • Pin fogbugz tab in visual studio

    - by boris callens
The fogbugz plugin for visual studio opens up a tab right next to your regular code tabs with in it the fogbugz window. Tiny bit lame if you ask me, but I can accept that. Is there a way however to make that tab pinned? So I cannot accidently close it and it will stay the first tab at all times?

  • Using C# assemblies from VB6 code. Some issues.

    - by AngryHacker
I have a C# assembly, which is regasmed, but is not in the GAC. In my VB6 code, I added a reference to the generated type library (the .tlb file). Then I instantiate the C# lib in my VB6 code. If I run it from the VB6 IDE, it does not work. The Set in the code below: Dim obj as MyCSharpNamespace.MyCSharpObject Set obj = New MyCSharpNamespace.MyCSharpObject causes this error: Automation error The system cannot find the file specified However, if I compile the VB6 project to an EXE and run it, it runs perfectly fine. I should add that all the VB6 project files (e.g. forms, modules, etc...) are in the same folder as the C# DLL and TLB. So why can't I run it from the IDE environment?

  • How can I drop a table if it exists in SQL Server 2000?

    - by Keng
I have a DTS package that drops a table then creates it and populates it but sometimes something happens and the package fails after the drop table. If it's rerun it fails cuz the table hasn't been created yet. Is there something like "if exists" for SQLServer 2000 like in MySQL? thanks. Edit Thanks everyone! I went with TrickyNixon because his was quick and easier to initiate. But, I would like everyone to eval that statement and make sure it is best-practices because if it is, I'm TOTALLY going to dump that into EVERY drop/create DTS package I see!!! Nice work TrickyNixon and everyone who threw in on this.

  • Outlook Folder Browse Dialog???

    - by Ike
Hello there, I'm hoping someone could help me with a quick point in the right direction. ALL I NEED is the Outlook folder browser dialog call. I am developing some plugins for Outlook using C# and this is a crucial part for both plugins. Hopefully, it is like a standard DialogResult that passes back folder information (selected folder) so that I can use this info for further processing. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

  • XML multiline comments in C# - what am I doing wrong?

    - by Dave
According to this article, it's possible to get multiline XML comments -- instead of using ///, use /** */. This is my interpretation of what multiline comments are, and what I want to have happen: /** * <summary> * this comment is on line 1 in the tooltip * this comment is on line 2 in the tooltip * </summary> */ However, when I use this form, the tooltip that pops up when I hover over my class name in my code is single-line, i.e. it looks exactly as if I had written my comment like this: /// <summary> /// this comment is on line 1 in the tooltip /// this comment is on line 2 in the tooltip /// </summary> Is this behavior actually possible still in VS2008?

  • Visual Studio Web Development - General Question?

    - by elviraHiggins
Hi, I like using Visual Basic for C++. I'm a student I noticed the web development feature in it, and I was wondering if it is any good for web design, maybe if someone has used it or does use it if they can give a few words on weather or not it's worth learning? I have been using Dreamweaver as my platform for web design. So pretty much I'm asking Dreamweaver VS Visual Studio for webdesign, pros and cons?

  • header correct, but identifier not found

    - by sciloop
I`m having two projects (x64). A. written in C (wxWidgets) B. written in c++ A compiles fine. B uses funcions of A. When I try to compile, I`m getting several errors. I suggest that the reason for the errors is the same for all, so I mention only the first: It says: strlen: identifier not found. But I have included the headers: #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> So, currently, I have just no idea where to start to search for the reason of the errors. May it be that I have c and c++ files? May it be that I compile for x64? Thanks for help!

  • Supress output from Visual Studio output pane (C++)

    - by Ryan Ginstrom
When I run my Win32 project in the Visual Studio debugger, I get this huge screed of output about which DLLs were loaded, first-chance exceptions, and so on. Is there a way that I can suppress this output? Some day, I might want to know when 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll' was loaded, but normally I don't care. This is especially true when I'm running unit tests, and just want to be told whether any of the tests failed. This stuff isn't output with console applications, but it is with windows applications. To give an example of what I mean, here are the first lines from the output of a recent unit-test run. 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\dev\MyProject\Testing\MyProject.exe', Symbols loaded. 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\kernel32.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\KernelBase.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\dbghelp.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcrt.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\user32.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\gdi32.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\lpk.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\usp10.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\advapi32.dll' ... and on and on ...
