  • Problem starting Compiz: symbol lookup error for libdecoration.so

    I run Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick). I had removed Compiz 0.8.x from my system so I could try out Compiz 0.9.x. I then decided that I wanted Compiz 0.8.x back, so I installed the packages from aptitude. Now, when I try to start Compiz, I get this error: compiz: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/compiz/libdecoration.so: undefined symbol: decor_property_to_quads Using the command "readelf /usr/lib/compiz/libdecoration.so -s", I see that that symbol is present: 24: 00000000 0 FUNC GLOBAL DEFAULT UND decor_property_to_quads Aptitude reports that my Compiz core packages (like compiz, compiz-core, compiz-plugins, etc.) are at version 1:0.8.6-0ubuntu9.1. Does anyone have any ideas why Compiz is reporting this error, and/or what I can do to fix it? I cannot run Compiz, because this error causes Compiz to abort, even if the "Window Decoration" plugin is not enabled.

    Afetr using the Model library (see this) for my Maven pom.xml during this weeks I jumped on this error while attempting to write a ConfiguratonContainer into the pom.xml. The javadoc for Model says: public void setConfiguration(Object configuration) Set the configuration as DOM object. Parameters: configuration - So I made some xml with Document (org.w3c.dom.Document) and the xml parser standar javax library. You know the code (it's through all the net) but I paste it here... DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); DocumentBuilder parser = factory.newDocumentBuilder(); Document doc =parser.newDocument(); And then you fill the code with Element declaration,a lot of appendChild and such. And tried to make it work. Doesn't seem to do well. First tried using plugin.setConfiguration(doc); But it didn't work. Then I tried Obejct obj = doc; plugin.setConfiguration(obj); But it didn't work. Then I searched the net for answers, and guess... It didn't work. There are like 0 people using this library (maven.model) in all the net. So here am I again, asking the senseis for help. Where is my error? I have downloaded the source code of the library trying to see where is the error, but it seems to be ok (as should).   • Displaying Nagios on a 52" 1080p screen

    I'm using a 52" 1080p LCD screen to monitor Nagios, positioned where most of the users can see it. Using the default Nagios web view sort of sucks, since you need to increase the text size a decent amount so it's legible from a distance, and then the "Current Network Status", "Host Status Totals", and other boxes along the top take up the majority of the screen realestate; you can't really see the list of host details. Is there a custom view for Nagios, or a plugin, or something available which is meant to display Nagios details on a large screen with large text?

    I'm on a Windows 7 machine and need to create a new folder whose name starts with a dot. To be specific, I need to create the folder "C:\USERS\theusername\.ec2" because that is the default location that the AWS plugin for Eclipse likes to find certain configuration files. Windows 7 gives me an error message whenever I try to create a folder that starts with a dot: You must type a filename Seriously? There are already subfolders in this folder that start with a dot! How can I tell Windows 7 to just shut up and create my folder?

  • Can't get PHP script to run when launched from Aptana Studio

    I've been using notepad++ for web development (currently html, css, and some php and mysql). I decided to dive into an IDE to see if I could cut down on development time and have more power than notepad++. I grabbed Aptana yesterday and, after harassing it for a few hours, have finally gotten everything up and running. The only problem is that my web pages, which are .php's, do not execute any of their included .php code in the browser. as an example: <?php echo "IT WORKS WOOO"; ?> ought to print IT WORKS WOOO smack in the middle of my blank test page, and yet it does not. I checked to see if I had somehow forgotten how to do an echo statement and ran it on my desktop, using notepad++, and it worked just fine. I have the php plugin, have used the php perspective to write it and have launched it as a php web page, but nothing makes it execute the php within. Any ideas?

  • firefox addons and their silly news tabs

    Something like 30% of the addons I have in firefox update every other week and feel the need to pop open a tab about how awesome they are and all the cool things they changed. I just don't care at all and I'm very annoyed by these news tabs. When firefox opens, I want to see my home page. I've been looking for an addon to disable or kill them before I even have to look at them. Rather like addblock-for-addons. Short of finding a plugin that disables them, I'm seeking information about common interfaces so I can try to figure it out on my own. I'm wondering if I could do it in greasemonkey somehow. For example, is there something common about the url for the tabs?

  • Continuous Deployment with a C#/ASP.NET website?

    I have a website in C#/ASP.NET that is currently in development. When we are in production, I would like to do releases frequently over the course of the day, as we fix bugs and add features (like this: http://toni.org/2010/05/19/in-praise-of-continuous-deployment-the-wordpress-com-story/). If you upload a new version of the site or even change a single file, it kicks out the users that are currently logged in and makes them start over any forms and such. Is there a secret to being able to do deployments without interfering with users for .NET sites?

Security is a major concern and I'd like to learn from some of the popular PHP CMS's like Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, etc. What are some security flaws or vulnerabilities that they have they had in the past that I can avoid in my application and what strategies can I use to avoid them? What are other issues that I need to be concerned with that they perhaps didn't face as a vulnerability because they handled it correctly from the start? What additional security features or measures would you include? Please be as specific as possible. I'm generally aware of most of the usual attack vectors, but I want to make sure that all the bases are covered, so don't be afraid to mention the obvious as well. Assume PHP 5.2+.

  • Flex / ZendAMF / PHP app, corrupted data with some linux clients problem

    Hello, i'm buiding a survey web application, using Flex for the front-end (nice forms), and a MySQL database for the storage, linked by PHP with the help of ZendAMF. I largely borrowed from this nice tutorial by Alan Gruskoff : http://digitalshowcase.biz/wordpress/?page_id=26 (The only one tutorial i've found to work with the last version of Flex). The app seems to works nicely in my tests, except on certain linux boxes : the data is somehow corrupted : there is no error message, no glitch, but the response of the forms are not what the user selected. I tried to reproduce the error on a fresh installed ubuntu VM, but it works fine. I've asked friends for some tests, and several linux users showed the same problem, on ubuntu and suse machines, all freshly updated and functionnal. The application was targeted to be the survey tool for my doctoral thesis, so i'm quite desperate here, and before i'm dumping it to start anew with php only, i'm asking here in case someone can help, thanks :-) Please excuse my english, by the way.   • Unable to install gem "pg" on Ubuntu 12.10 (AMD64)

    I've been (unsuccessfully) trying to install the "pg" gem on my ruby 1.9.3-p286 but nothing seems to work. I've already installed postgresql (9.1), libpq-dev and a few others like postgresql-server-dev-9.1. I've tried to pass the "with-pg-config" flag to the gem install but simply nothing seems to work.     There is apparently a bug introduced in the latest Java update for Mac OS X, which causes deletes in JFormattedTextFields to be performed twice. See http://lists.apple.com/archives/java-dev/2010/May/msg00092.html The DefaultEditorKit.deletePrevCharAction is invoked twice when the delete key is pressed. Are there any suggestions for a workaround? I'm thinking of replacing the delete action for my text fields with a patched version that somehow filters out these duplicate invocations.

  • How to change the audio output device in Firefox or any other modern browser?

    I'm trying to play music through Ventrilo and currently I use Virtual Audio Cable. The way it works is that in foobar2000 (a music playing program) I set the output device in preferences to Virtual Audio Cable. Then in Ventrilo I log in to another name and set the input device to Virtual Audio Cable. This routes the music through the Virtual Audio Cable and allows me to play the music through Ventrilo. However, I would also like to change the output device for Firefox (or any other browser) or "Plugin Container for Firefix" to Virtual Audio Cable so that I could play music from Pandora or YouTube on to Ventrilo. Unfortunately I could not find an option for this anywhere.

  • Creating Arrows Easily for Images

    I'm looking for a plugin or something along those lines for creating arrows for an image I'm working on. Basically it's just a screenshot of some software, but I want to annotate it and have arrows on it pointing to the various components. It should look something like this or even something simpler. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be an easy, free way of creating good arrows for any of the screenshots, short of importing actual images of arrows! I prefer to use: GIMP Paint.NET Other free software (beer or freedom, whichever) What are my alternatives? I really want to stay away from Photoshop on this. Thanks.

  • Configure spamassassin to mark very similar messages as spam

    Users on my server have been receiving spam, consistently, for some time now. I have most of spamassassin's plugins enabled, and I have made sure to enable verbose logging, where I can see that all of the plugins are working. Why is it, then, that my users are able to receive the same exact junk mail several times in a day without the message being flagged in some way? Here are the relevant headers of an email that I personally have received several copies of: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.3.1 (2010-03-16) on sub.domain.tld X-Spam-Level: *** X-Spam-Status: No, score=3.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_50,FSL_HELO_NON_FQDN_1, HELO_NO_DOMAIN,HTML_MESSAGE,RCVD_IN_BRBL_LASTEXT,RDNS_NONE autolearn=no version=3.3.1 Have I accidentally missed the plugin that can see that I, and others, have received the same message multiple times in a short period of time?
