  • ASP.NET DropDownList posting ""

    - by Daniel
    I am using ASP.NET forms version 3.5 in VB I have a dropdownlist that is filled with data from a DB with a list of countries The code for the dropdown list is <label class="ob_label"> <asp:DropDownList ID="lstCountry" runat="server" CssClass="ob_forminput"> </asp:DropDownList> Country*</label> And the code that the list is Dim selectSQL As String = "exec dbo.*******************" ' Define the ADO.NET objects. Dim con As New SqlConnection(connectionString) Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(selectSQL, con) Dim reader As SqlDataReader ' Try to open database and read information. Try con.Open() reader = cmd.ExecuteReader() ' For each item, add the author name to the displayed ' list box text, and store the unique ID in the Value property. Do While reader.Read() Dim newItem As New ListItem() newItem.Text = reader("AllSites_Countries_Name") newItem.Value = reader("AllSites_Countries_Id") CType(LoginViewCart.FindControl("lstCountry"), DropDownList).Items.Add(newItem) Loop reader.Close() CType(LoginViewCart.FindControl("lstCountry"), DropDownList).SelectedValue = 182 Catch Err As Exception Response.Redirect("~/error-on-page/") MailSender.SendMailMessage("*********************", "", "", OrangeBoxSiteId.SiteName & " Error Catcher", "<p>Error in sub FillCountry</p><p>Error on page:" & HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.AbsoluteUri & "</p><p>Error details: " & Err.Message & "</p>") Response.Redirect("~/error-on-page/") Finally con.Close() End Try When the form is submitted an error occurs which says that the string "" cannot be converted to the datatype integer. For some reason the dropdownlist is posting "" rather than the value for the selected country.

  • Loading from archive?

    - by fuzzygoat
    Can anyone point me in the right direction, I have two sets of load/save methods below that I am playing with to save an array of objects out to disk and then load them back in. I am getting a little confused after calling "saveMoons" how I should go about loading that data back in ... any pointers would be great. -(void)saveMoons:(NSString *)savePath { NSMutableData *data = [[NSMutableData alloc] init]; NSKeyedArchiver *archiver = [[NSKeyedArchiver alloc] initForWritingWithMutableData:data]; [moons encodeWithCoder:archiver]; [archiver finishEncoding]; [data writeToFile:savePath atomically:YES]; [data release]; [archiver release]; } -(void)loadMoons:(NSString *)loadPath { NSMutableData *data = [[NSMutableData alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:loadPath]; NSKeyedUnarchiver *unarchiver = [[NSKeyedUnarchiver alloc] initForReadingWithData:data]; // [self setMoons:[unarchiver ??????]]; } . // ------------------------------------------------------------------- ** // SIMPLER // ------------------------------------------------------------------- ** -(void)saveMoons_SIMPLE:(NSString *)savePath { NSData *data = [NSKeyedArchiver archivedDataWithRootObject:moons]; [data writeToFile:savePath atomically:YES]; } -(void)loadMoons_SIMPLE:(NSString *)loadPath { [self setMoons:[NSKeyedUnarchiver unarchiveObjectWithFile:loadPath]]; } // ------------------------------------------------------------------- ** // // ------------------------------------------------------------------- ** gary

  • Linker, Libraries & Directories Information

    - by m00st
    I've finished both my C++ 1/2 classes and we did not cover anything on Linking to libraries or adding additional libraries to C++ code. I've been having a hay-day trying to figure this out; I've been unable to find basic information linking to objects. Initially I thought the problem was the IDE (Netbeans; and Code::Blocks). However I've been unable to get wxWidgets and GTKMM setup. Can someone point me in the right direction on the terminology and basic information about #including files and linking files in a Cpp application? Basically I want/need to know everything in regards to this process. The difference between .dll, .lib, .o, .lib.a, .dll.a. The difference between a .h and a "library" (.dll, .lib correct?) I understand I need to read the compiler documentation I am using; however all compilers (that I know of) use linker and headers; I need to learn this information. Please point me in the right direction! :] So far on my quest I've found out: Linker links libraries already compiled to your project. .a files are static libraries (.lib in windows) .dll in windows is a shared library (.so in *nix) Thanks

  • vector::erase with pointer member

    - by matt
    I am manipulating vectors of objects defined as follow: class Hyp{ public: int x; int y; double wFactor; double hFactor; char shapeNum; double* visibleShape; int xmin, xmax, ymin, ymax; Hyp(int xx, int yy, double ww, double hh, char s): x(xx), y(yy), wFactor(ww), hFactor(hh), shapeNum(s) {visibleShape=0;shapeNum=-1;}; //Copy constructor necessary for support of vector::push_back() with visibleShape Hyp(const Hyp &other) { x = other.x; y = other.y; wFactor = other.wFactor; hFactor = other.hFactor; shapeNum = other.shapeNum; xmin = other.xmin; xmax = other.xmax; ymin = other.ymin; ymax = other.ymax; int visShapeSize = (xmax-xmin+1)*(ymax-ymin+1); visibleShape = new double[visShapeSize]; for (int ind=0; ind<visShapeSize; ind++) { visibleShape[ind] = other.visibleShape[ind]; } }; ~Hyp(){delete[] visibleShape;}; }; When I create a Hyp object, allocate/write memory to visibleShape and add the object to a vector with vector::push_back, everything works as expected: the data pointed by visibleShape is copied using the copy-constructor. But when I use vector::erase to remove a Hyp from the vector, the other elements are moved correctly EXCEPT the pointer members visibleShape that are now pointing to wrong addresses! How to avoid this problem? Am I missing something?

  • Turning a JSON list into a POJO

    - by Josh L
    I'm having trouble getting this bit of JSON into a POJO. I'm using Jackson configured like this: protected ThreadLocal<ObjectMapper> jparser = new ThreadLocal<ObjectMapper>(); public void receive(Object object) { try { if (object instanceof String && ((String)object).length() != 0) { ObjectDefinition t = null ; if (parserChoice==0) { if (jparser.get()==null) { jparser.set(new ObjectMapper()); } t = jparser.get().readValue((String)object, ObjectDefinition.class); } Object key = t.getKey(); if (key == null) return; transaction.put(key,t); } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } Here's the JSON that needs to be turned into a POJO: { "id":"exampleID1", "entities":{ "tags":[ { "text":"textexample1", "indices":[ 2, 14 ] }, { "text":"textexample2", "indices":[ 31, 36 ] }, { "text":"textexample3", "indices":[ 37, 43 ] } ] } And lastly, here's what I currently have for the java class: protected Entities entities; @JsonIgnoreProperties(ignoreUnknown = true) protected class Entities { public Entities() {} protected Tags tags; @JsonIgnoreProperties(ignoreUnknown = true) protected class Tags { public Tags() {} protected String text; public String getText() { return text; } public void setText(String text) { this.text = text; } }; public Tags getTags() { return tags; } public void setTags(Tags tags) { this.tags = tags; } }; //Getters & Setters ... I've been able to translate the more simple objects into a POJO, but the list has me stumped. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Multiple calls to data service from SL3?

    - by Chris
    I have an SL3 that makes asynchronous calls to a data service. Basically, there is a treeview that is bound to a collection of objects. The idea is that as a user selects a specific treeviewitem, a call is made to the data service, with a parameter specific to the selected treeviewitem being passed to the corresponding web method in the data service. The data service returns data back to the SL3 client, and the client presents the data to the user. This works well. The problem is that when users start to navigate through the treeview using the arrow keys on their keyboard, they could press the down arrow key, for example, 10 times, and 10 calls will be made to the data service, and then each of the 10 items will be displayed to the user momentarily, until finishing with the data for the most recently selected treeview item. So - onto the question. How can I put in some form of delay, to allow someone to navigate quickly through a treeview, then, once then stop at a certain treeviewitem, a call is made to the data service? Thanks for any suggestions. Chris

  • JSF Float Conversion

    - by Phill Sacre
    I'm using JSF 1.2 with IceFaces 1.8 in a project here. I have a page which is basically a big edit grid for a whole bunch of floating-point number fields. This is implemented with inputText fields on the page pointing at a value object with primitive float types Now, as a new requirement sees some of the fields be nullable, I wanted to change the value object to use Float objects rather than primitive types. I didn't think I'd need to do anything to the page to accomodate this. However, when I make the change I get the following error: /pages/page.xhtml @79,14 value="#{row.targetValue}": java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: argument type mismatch And /pages/page.xhtml @79,14 value="#{row.targetValue}": java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: java.lang.ClassCastException@1449aa1 The page looks like this: <ice:inputText value="#{row.targetValue}" size="4"> <f:convertNumber pattern="###.#" /> </ice:inputText> I've also tried adding in <f:convert convertId="javax.faces.Float" /> in there as well but that doesn't seem to work either! Neither does changing the value object types to Double. I'm sure I'm probably missing something really simple but I've been staring at this for a while now and no answers are immediately obvious!

  • jmap -histo is missing a lot of memory

    - by ripper234
    I have a JVM with 12 gigs of total RAM, out of which 7 GB is allocated to the old generation. There seems to be some memory leak, because almost the entire old gen is full, and will not release when I schedule a GC (the process is not doing anything else at that time). A jmap -histo dump only reveals less than 1 gigabyte worth of objects. Where are the missing 6 gigs? What better tool do you propose for diagnosing this? Here is the top of the jmap output: num #instances #bytes class name ---------------------------------------------- 1: 429853 68725736 <constMethodKlass> 2: 429853 51594040 <methodKlass> 3: 37503 49611368 <constantPoolKlass> 4: 37503 31109576 <instanceKlassKlass> 5: 191716 28019968 [C 6: 32573 26933152 <constantPoolCacheKlass> 7: 86158 13789560 [I 8: 53532 11244232 [B 9: 284 10507216 [J 10: 137608 7210664 <symbolKlass> 11: 203072 6498304 java.lang.String 12: 10132 5219512 <methodDataKlass> 13: 39694 4128176 java.lang.Class 14: 55713 3792816 [S 15: 61816 3141936 [[I 16: 90109 2883488 java.util.HashMap$Entry

  • Haskell: "how much" of a type should functions receive? and avoiding complete "reconstruction"

    - by L01man
    I've got these data types: data PointPlus = PointPlus { coords :: Point , velocity :: Vector } deriving (Eq) data BodyGeo = BodyGeo { pointPlus :: PointPlus , size :: Point } deriving (Eq) data Body = Body { geo :: BodyGeo , pict :: Color } deriving (Eq) It's the base datatype for characters, enemies, objects, etc. in my game (well, I just have two rectangles as the player and the ground right now :p). When a key, the characters moves right, left or jumps by changing its velocity. Moving is done by adding the velocity to the coords. Currently, it's written as follows: move (PointPlus (x, y) (xi, yi)) = PointPlus (x + xi, y + yi) (xi, yi) I'm just taking the PointPlus part of my Body and not the entire Body, otherwise it would be: move (Body (BodyGeo (PointPlus (x, y) (xi, yi)) wh) col) = (Body (BodyGeo (PointPlus (x + xi, y + yi) (xi, yi)) wh) col) Is the first version of move better? Anyway, if move only changes PointPlus, there must be another function that calls it inside a new Body. I explain: there's a function update which is called to update the game state; it is passed the current game state, a single Body for now, and returns the updated Body. update (Body (BodyGeo (PointPlus xy (xi, yi)) wh) pict) = (Body (BodyGeo (move (PointPlus xy (xi, yi))) wh) pict) That tickles me. Everything is kept the same within Body except the PointPlus. Is there a way to avoid this complete "reconstruction" by hand? Like in: update body = backInBody $ move $ pointPlus body Without having to define backInBody, of course.

  • User preferences using SQL and JavaScript

    - by Shyam
    Hi, I am using Server Side JavaScript - yes, I am actually using Server Side JavaScript. To complexify things even more, I use Oracle as a backend database (10g). With some crazy XSLT and mutant-like HTML generation, I can build really fancy web forms - yes, I am aware of Rails and other likewise frameworks and I choose the path of horror instead. I have no JQuery or other fancy framework at my disposal, just plain ol' JavaScript that should be supported by the underlying engine called Mozilla Rhino. Yes, it is insane and I love it. So, I have a bunch of tables at my disposal and some of them are filled with associative keys that link to values. As I am a people pleaser, I want to add some nifty user-preference driven solutions. My users have all an unique user_id and this user_id is available during the entire session. My initial idea is to have a user preference table, where I have "three" columns: user_id, feature and pref_string. Using a delimiter, such as : or - (haven't thought about a suitable one yet), I could like store a bunch of preferences as a list and store its elements inside an array using the .split-method (similar like the PHP-explode function). The feature column could be like the table name or some identifier for the "feature" i want to link preferences too. I hate hardcoding objects, especially as I want to be able to back these up and reuse this functionality application-wide. Of course I would love better ideas, just keep in mind I cannot just add a library that easily. These preferences could be like "joined" to the table, so I can query it and use its values. I hope it doesn't sounds too complex, because well.. its basically something really simple I need. Thanks!

  • Django db encoding

    - by realshadow
    Hey, I have a little problem with encoding. The data in db is ok, when I select the data in php its ok. Problem comes when I get the data and try to print it in the template, I get - Å port instead of Šport, etc. Everything is set to utf-8 - in settings.py, meta tags in template, db table and I even have unicode method specified for the model, but nothing seems to work. I am getting pretty hopeless here... Here is some code: class Category_info(models.Model): objtree_label_id = models.AutoField(primary_key = True) node_id = models.IntegerField(unique = True) language_id = models.IntegerField() label = models.CharField(max_length = 255) type_id = models.IntegerField() class Meta: db_table = 'objtree_labels' def __unicode__(self): return self.label I have even tried with return u"%s" % self.label. Here is the view: def categories_list(request): categories_list = Category.objects.filter(parent_id = 1, status = 1) paginator = Paginator(categories_list, 10) try: page = int(request.GET.get('page', 1)) except ValueError: page = 1 try: categories = paginator.page(page) except (EmptyPage, InvalidPage): categories = paginator.page(paginator.num_pages) return render_to_response('categories_list.html', {'categories': categories}) Maybe I am just blind and/or stupid, but it just doesnt work. So any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. Regards

  • How can I create a SQL table using excel columns?

    - by Phsika
    I need to help to generate column name from excel automatically. I think that: we can do below codes: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Addresses_Temp] ( [FirstName] VARCHAR(20), [LastName] VARCHAR(20), [Address] VARCHAR(50), [City] VARCHAR(30), [State] VARCHAR(2), [ZIP] VARCHAR(10) ) via C#. How can I learn column name from Excel? private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { ExcelToSql(); } void ExcelToSql() { string connectionString = @"Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:\Source\MPD.xlsm;Extended Properties=""Excel 12.0;HDR=YES;"""; // if you don't want to show the header row (first row) // use 'HDR=NO' in the string string strSQL = "SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]"; OleDbConnection excelConnection = new OleDbConnection(connectionString); excelConnection.Open(); // This code will open excel file. OleDbCommand dbCommand = new OleDbCommand(strSQL, excelConnection); OleDbDataAdapter dataAdapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(dbCommand); // create data table DataTable dTable = new DataTable(); dataAdapter.Fill(dTable); // bind the datasource // dataBingingSrc.DataSource = dTable; // assign the dataBindingSrc to the DataGridView // dgvExcelList.DataSource = dataBingingSrc; // dispose used objects if (dTable.Rows.Count > 0) MessageBox.Show("Count:" + dTable.Rows.Count.ToString()); dTable.Dispose(); dataAdapter.Dispose(); dbCommand.Dispose(); excelConnection.Close(); excelConnection.Dispose(); }

  • Passing data between ViewControllers versus doing local Fetch in each VC

    - by Tofrizer
    Hi All, I'm developing an iPhone app using Core Data and I'm looking for some general advice and recommendations on whether its acceptable to pass data between ViewControllers versus doing a local fetch in each ViewController as you navigate to it. Ordinarily I would say it all depends on various factors (e.g. performance etc) but the passing data approach is so prevalent in my app and I'm spooked by all the stories about Apple rejecting apps because of not conforming to their standard guidelines. So let me put another way -- is it non-standard to pass data between VC's? The reason I pass data so much is because each ViewController is just another view on to data present in my object model / graph. Once I have a handle on my first object in the first view controller (which I of course do have to fetch), I can use the existing object composition / relationships to drill down into the next level of detail into data and so I just pass these objects to the next VC. Separately, one possible downside with this passing-data-to-each-VC approach is I don't benefit from (what I perceive to be) the optimisation/benefits that NSFetchedResultsController provides in terms of efficient memory usage and section handling. My app is read-only but I do have one table with 5000 rows and I'm curious if I am missing out on NSFetchedResultsController benefits. Any thoughts on this as well? Can I somehow still benefit from NSFetchedResultsController goodness without having to do a full fetch (as I would have already passed in the data from my previous VC)? Thanks a lot.

  • .Net Entity objectcontext thread error

    - by Chris Klepeis
    I have an n-layered asp.net application which returns an object from my DAL to the BAL like so: public IEnumerable<SourceKey> Get(SourceKey sk) { var query = from SourceKey in _dataContext.SourceKeys select SourceKey; if (sk.sourceKey1 != null) { query = from SourceKey in query where SourceKey.sourceKey1 == sk.sourceKey1 select SourceKey; } return query.AsEnumerable(); } This result passes through my business layer and hits the UI layer to display to the end users. I do not lazy load to prevent query execution in other layers of my application. I created another function in my DAL to delete objects: public void Delete(SourceKey sk) { try { _dataContext.DeleteObject(sk); _dataContext.SaveChanges(); } catch (Exception ex) { Debug.WriteLine(ex.Message + " " + ex.StackTrace + " " + ex.InnerException); } } When I try to call "Delete" after calling the "Get" function, I receive this error: New transaction is not allowed because there are other threads running in the session This is an ASP.Net app. My DAL contains an entity data model. The class in which I have the above functions share the same _dataContext, which is instantiated in my constructor. My guess is that the reader is still open from the "Get" function and was not closed. How can I close it?

  • How to use SendMessage to another form in same app

    - by Robert Frank
    I've been trying to get this to work for some time now and can't figure it out. Probably obvious once you know it. I simply want a non-modal form (or perhaps an instantiated non-TForm class) to send a message to the application's main form. I can make the main form send a message to itself and receive (announcing with a beep) But, I can't seem to have other objects send messages to the main form. I'm using WM_MY_MESSAGE = WM_APP + 200; What should the first argument of the SendMessage be to send a message to the main form? Even sending it to Application.MainForm.Handle doesn't seem to work. The reason I need to do this is that the modal form has a slider that another form (#2) needs to know when it changes. Notifying the other form via a callback procedure was making it sluggish as form #2 did some work before returning from the call. Is having a modal form send a windows message to the main form a reasonable way to avoid this?

  • PHP: MVC and Model

    - by Pirkka
    Hello I`ve been wondering this one thing about creating models. If I make for example Page model. Is it the both: It can retrieve one row from the table or all the rows. Somehow Im mixing the objects and the database. I have thought it like this: I would have to make a Page-class that would represent one row in the table. It also would have all the basic CRUD-methods. Then I would have to do a Pages-class (somekind of collection) that would retrieve rows from the table and instantiate a Page object from each row. Is this kind of weird? If someone could explain to me the idea of model throughout.. Im again confused. Maybe Im thinking the whole OOP too difficult.. And by the way this forum is great. Hopefully people will just understand my problems. Heh. I was a long time procedural style programmer and now in 3 months I have dived into OOP and MVC and PHP frameworks and I just get more excited day by day when I explore this stuff!

  • item-not-found(404) when trying to get a node using Smackx pubsub

    - by DustMason
    I'm trying to use the latest Smackx trunk to get and then subscribe to a pubsub node. However, openfire just sends me a back an error: item not found (404). I am instantiating the java objects from ColdFusion, so my code snippets might look funny but maybe someone will be able to tell me what I've forgotten. Here's how I create the node: ftype = createObject("java", "org.jivesoftware.smackx.pubsub.FormType"); cform = createObject("java", "org.jivesoftware.smackx.pubsub.ConfigureForm").init(ftype.submit); cform.setPersistentItems(true); cform.setDeliverPayloads(true); caccess = createObject("java", "org.jivesoftware.smackx.pubsub.AccessModel"); cform.setAccessModel(caccess.open); cpublish = createObject("java", "org.jivesoftware.smackx.pubsub.PublishModel"); cform.setPublishModel(cpublish.open); cform.setMaxItems(99); manager = createObject("java", "org.jivesoftware.smackx.pubsub.PubSubManager").init(XMPPConnection); myNode = manager.createNode("subber", cform); And here's how I am trying to get to it (in a different section of code): manager = createObject("java", "org.jivesoftware.smackx.pubsub.PubSubManager").init(XMPPConnection); myNode = manager.getNode("subber"); Immediately upon creating the node I seem to be able to publish to it like so: payload = createObject("java", "org.jivesoftware.smackx.pubsub.SimplePayload").init("book","pubsub:test:book","<book xmlns='pubsub:test:book'><title>Lord of the Rings</title></book>"); item = createObject("java", "org.jivesoftware.smackx.pubsub.Item").init(payload); myNode.publish(item); However, it is the getNode() call that is causing my code to error. I have verified that the nodes are being created by checking the DB used by my openfire server. I can see them in there, properly attributed as leaf nodes, etc. Any advice? Anyone else out there doing anything with XMPP and ColdFusion? I have had great success sending and receiving messages with CF and Smack just haven't had the pubsub working yet :) Thanks!

  • Cast errors with IXmlSerializable

    - by Nathan
    I am trying to use the IXmlSerializable interface to deserialize an Object (I am using it because I need specific control over what gets deserialized and what does not. See my previous question for more information). However, I'm stumped as to the error message I get. Below is the error message I get (I have changed some names for clarity): An unhandled exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in App.exe Additional information: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Xml.XmlNode[]' to type 'MyObject'. MyObject has all the correct methods defined for the interface, and regardless of what I put in the method body for ReadXml() I still get this error. It doesn't matter if it has my implementation code or if it's just blank. I did some googling and found an error that looks similar to this involving polymorphic objects that implement IXmlSerializable. However, my class does not inherit from any others (besides Object). I suspected this may be an issue because I never reference XmlNode any other time in my code. Microsoft describes a solution to the polymorphism error: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/422577/incorrect-deserialization-of-polymorphic-type-that-implements-ixmlserializable?wa=wsignin1.0#details The code the error occurs at is as follows. The object to be read back in is an ArrayList of "MyObjects" IO::FileStream ^fs = gcnew IO::FileStream(filename, IO::FileMode::Open); array<System::Type^>^ extraTypes = gcnew array<System::Type^>(1); extraTypes[0] = MyObject::typeid; XmlSerializer ^xmlser = gcnew XmlSerializer(ArrayList::typeid, extraTypes); System::Object ^obj; obj = xmlser->Deserialize(fs); fs->Close(); ArrayList ^al = safe_cast<ArrayList^>(obj); MyObject ^objs; for each(objs in al) //Error occurs here { //do some processing } Thanks for reading and for any help.

  • Finding the left-most and right-most points of a list. std::find_if the right way to go?

    - by Tom
    Hi, I have a list of Point objects, (each one with x,y properties) and would like to find the left-most and right-most points. I've been trying to do it with find_if, but i'm not sure its the way to go, because i can't seem to pass a comparator instance. Is find_if the way to go? Seems not. So, is there an algorithm in <algorithm> to achieve this? Thanks in advance. #include <iostream> #include <list> #include <algorithm> using namespace std; typedef struct Point{ float x; float y; } Point; bool left(Point& p1,Point& p2) { return p1.x < p2.x; } int main(){ Point p1 ={-1,0}; Point p2 ={1,0}; Point p3 ={5,0}; Point p4 ={7,0}; list <Point> points; points.push_back(p1); points.push_back(p2); points.push_back(p3); points.push_back(p4); //Should return an interator to p1. find_if(points.begin(),points.end(),left); return 0; }

  • How do I write a J2EE/EJB Singleton?

    - by Bears will eat you
    A day ago my application was one EAR, containing one WAR, one EJB JAR, and a couple of utility JAR files. I had a POJO singleton class in one of those utility files, it worked, and all was well with the world: EAR |--- WAR |--- EJB JAR |--- Util 1 JAR |--- Util 2 JAR |--- etc. Then I created a second WAR and found out (the hard way) that each WAR has its own ClassLoader, so each WAR sees a different singleton, and things break down from there. This is not so good. EAR |--- WAR 1 |--- WAR 2 |--- EJB JAR |--- Util 1 JAR |--- Util 2 JAR |--- etc. So, I'm looking for a way to create a Java singleton object that will work across WARs (across ClassLoaders?). The @Singleton EJB annotation seemed pretty promising until I found that JBoss 5.1 doesn't seem to support that annotation (which was added as part of EJB 3.1). Did I miss something - can I use @Singleton with JBoss 5.1? Upgrading to JBoss AS 6 is not an option right now. Alternately, I'd be just as happy to not have to use EJB to implement my singleton. What else can I do to solve this problem? Basically, I need a semi-application-wide* hook into a whole bunch of other objects, like various cached data, and app config info. As a last resort, I've already considered merging my two WARs into one, but that would be pretty hellish. *Meaning: available basically anywhere above a certain layer; for now, mostly in my WARs - the View and Controller (in a loose sense).

  • Referencing object's identity before submitting changes in LINQ

    - by Axarydax
    Hi, is there a way of knowing ID of identity column of record inserted via InsertOnSubmit beforehand, e.g. before calling datasource's SubmitChanges? Imagine I'm populating some kind of hierarchy in the database, but I wouldn't want to submit changes on each recursive call of each child node (e.g. if I had Directories table and Files table and am recreating my filesystem structure in the database). I'd like to do it that way, so I create a Directory object, set its name and attributes, then InsertOnSubmit it into DataContext.Directories collection, then reference Directory.ID in its child Files. Currently I need to call InsertOnSubmit to insert the 'directory' into the database and the database mapping fills its ID column. But this creates a lot of transactions and accesses to database and I imagine that if I did this inserting in a batch, the performance would be better. What I'd like to do is to somehow use Directory.ID before commiting changes, create all my File and Directory objects in advance and then do a big submit that puts all stuff into database. I'm also open to solving this problem via a stored procedure, I assume the performance would be even better if all operations would be done directly in the database.

  • How do JVM's implicit memory barriers behave when chaining constructors

    - by Joonas Pulakka
    Referring to my earlier question on incompletely constructed objects, I have a second question. As Jon Skeet pointed out, there's an implicit memory barrier in the end of a constructor that makes sure that final fields are visible to all threads. But what if a constructor calls another constructor; is there such a memory barrier in the end of each of them, or only in one being called from outside? That is, when the "wrong" solution is: public class ThisEscape { public ThisEscape(EventSource source) { source.registerListener( new EventListener() { public void onEvent(Event e) { doSomething(e); } }); } } And the correct one would be a factory method version: public class SafeListener { private final EventListener listener; private SafeListener() { listener = new EventListener() { public void onEvent(Event e) { doSomething(e); } } } public static SafeListener newInstance(EventSource source) { SafeListener safe = new SafeListener(); source.registerListener(safe.listener); return safe; } } Would the following work too, or not? public class MyListener { private final EventListener Listener; private MyListener() { listener = new EventListener() { public void onEvent(Event e) { doSomething(e); } } } public MyListener(EventSource source) { this(); source.register(listener); } }

  • 3 tier application pattern suggestion

    - by Maxim Gershkovich
    I have attempted to make my first 3 tier application. In the process I have run into one problem I am yet to find an optimal solution for. Basically all my objects use an IFillable interface which forces the implementation of a sub as follows Public Sub Fill(ByVal Datareader As Data.IDataReader) Implements IFillable.Fill This sub then expects the Ids from the datareader will be identical to the properties of the object as such. Me.m_StockID = Datareader.GetGuid(Datareader.GetOrdinal("StockID")) In the end I end up with a datalayer that looks something like this. Public Shared Function GetStockByID(ByVal ConnectionString As String, ByVal StockID As Guid) As Stock Dim res As New Stock Using sqlConn As New SqlConnection(ConnectionString) sqlConn.Open() res.Fill(StockDataLayer.GetStockByIDQuery(sqlConn, StockID)) End Using Return res End Function Mostly this pattern seems to make sense. However my problem is, lets say I want to implement a property for Stock called StockBarcodeList. Under the above mentioned pattern any way I implement this property I will need to pass a connectionstring to it which obviously breaks my attempt at layer separation. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to solve this problem or am I going about this the completely wrong way? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might improve my implementation? Please note however I am deliberately trying to avoid using the dataset in any form.

  • Save memory in Python. How to iterate over the lines and save them efficiently with a 2million line

    - by skyl
    I have a tab-separated data file with a little over 2 million lines and 19 columns. You can find it, in US.zip: http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/. I started to run the following but with for l in f.readlines(). I understand that just iterating over the file is supposed to be more efficient so I'm posting that below. Still, with this small optimization, I'm using 10% of my memory on the process and have only done about 3% of the records. It looks like, at this pace, it will run out of memory like it did before. Also, the function I have is very slow. Is there anything obvious I can do to speed it up? Would it help to del the objects with each pass of the for loop? def run(): from geonames.models import POI f = file('data/US.txt') for l in f: li = l.split('\t') try: p = POI() p.geonameid = li[0] p.name = li[1] p.asciiname = li[2] p.alternatenames = li[3] p.point = "POINT(%s %s)" % (li[5], li[4]) p.feature_class = li[6] p.feature_code = li[7] p.country_code = li[8] p.ccs2 = li[9] p.admin1_code = li[10] p.admin2_code = li[11] p.admin3_code = li[12] p.admin4_code = li[13] p.population = li[14] p.elevation = li[15] p.gtopo30 = li[16] p.timezone = li[17] p.modification_date = li[18] p.save() except IndexError: pass if __name__ == "__main__": run()
