  • C# Simple Event Handler for Setting Alarm

    - by yeeen
    Why does the following line "alarm.AlarmEvent += new AlarmEventHandler(alarm_Sound);" gives me "An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property 'AlarmClock.Alarm.alarm_Sound(object, System.EventArgs)'" public static void Main(string[] args) { Alarm alarm = new Alarm(new DateTime(2010, 4, 7, 23, 2, 0)); alarm.Set(); alarm.AlarmEvent += new AlarmEventHandler(alarm_Sound); } Full source code here: Program.cs AlarmEventArgs

  • JavaScript: What would cause setInterval to stop firing?

    - by Rosarch
    I am writing a chat AJAX app. Randomly, in FF 3.5.9, setInterval() seems to stop firing. I don't have clearInterval() anywhere in my code. What could be causing this to happen? $(document).ready(function () { $("#no-js-warning").empty(); messageRefresher = new MessageRefresher(0); setInterval($.proxy(messageRefresher, "refresh"), 2000); }); function notifyInRoom(user) { $.getJSON('API/users_in_room', { room_id: $.getUrlVar('key'), username: user }, function (users) { if (!$.isEmptyObject(users)) { $("#users").empty(); $.each(users, function (index, username) { var newChild = sprintf("<li>%s</li>", username); $("#users").append(newChild); }); } else { $("#users-loading-msg").text("No one is in this room."); } }); } function MessageRefresher(latest_mid) { this._latest_mid = latest_mid; } MessageRefresher.prototype.refresh = function () { notifyInRoom($("#user-name").val()); var refresher = this; $.getJSON('API/read_messages', { room_id: $.getUrlVar('key'), mid: refresher._latest_mid }, function (messages) { if (! (messages == null || $.isEmptyObject(messages[0]))) { // messages will always be at least [[], [], 0] $("#messages-loading-msg").hide(); for (var i = 0; i < messages[0].length; i++) { var newChild = sprintf('<li><span class="username">%s:</span> %s</li>', messages[1][i], messages[0][i]); $("#messages").append(newChild); } refresher._latest_mid = messages[2]; setUserBlockClass(); } else { $("#messages-loading-msg").text("No messages here. Say anything..."); } }); } // Give the end-user-block class to the appropriate messages // eg, those where the next message is by a different user function setUserBlockClass() { $("#messages li").each(function (index) { if ($(this).children(".username").text() != $(this).next().children(".username").text()) { $(this).addClass("end-user-block"); } }); } I checked the most recent responses in Firebug, and it was the same responses that had been sent earlier. (So, it's not like an unusual response caused a crash.) If I refresh the page, the calls resume.

  • Using Full-Text-Search in order to find partial words (SQL SERVER 2008)

    - by dig
Hello, I'm trying to build a facebook like search for my software. I'd like to query the table customers. I've set up a FULLTEXT Index and tried the next query SELECT * FROM Customer where CONTAINS(*,'*ann*') The query does return all the customers named Ann, but it doesn't return all the customers name Anne. Is there a way to create prefix search on SQL SERVER 2008 using FTS? Thanks.

  • CSS Rollovers: how to maintain "hit area" size when hidden image is larger than anchor area

    - by nukefusion
I have a small problem and I don't think what I want to do can be achieved with just pure CSS, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Basically, I have one DIV which contains a hyperlinked element that is smaller in size to it's parent DIV. So in effect I have a square within a square with the inner square being the "hit area". When I mouse over this inner square I want the background of the outer square to change. I know it's not possible to change the parent DIV's background on a:hover, but I figured I could give the illusion of it happening by nesting a hidden image inside the anchor. This works great until I want to "roll off". The problem is that I want the image to disappear when I leave the area of the anchor tag, not the larger hidden image. Is this possible? For the benefit of everyone I've provided an example to demonstrate what I mean: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" /> <title>Test Rollover</title> <link href="main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <div id="d1"> <a href="#nogo"> <b id="b1"></b> <b id="b2"></b> </a> </div> </body> And the css: #b1 { width: 200px; height: 200px; top: 100px; left: 100px; background-color:aqua; position: absolute; z-index: 100; } #b2 { width: 400px; height: 400px; background-color:lime; position: absolute; display: none; z-index: 90; } #d1 { width: 400px; height: 400px; background-color:fuchsia; position: relative; } #d1 a:hover #b2 { display: block; } In this example I want the green outer square to disappear when I leave the bounds of the hidden inner blue square.

  • Berkeley DB: btree prefix comparison for directory-like keys?

    - by Mark Harrison
I'm going to index a BDB with keys that look a lot like directory paths ('/foo/bar', '/foo/baz', etc, with levels of slashes generally < 10). Does anybody have any experience with using a Btree prefix comparison routine[1] for this? Are the savings worthwhile? Any references to experience papers on this subject? • Regex for Matching First Alphanumeric Character skipping (The |An? )

    - by TheLizardKing
I have a list of artists, albums and tracks that I want to sort using the first letter of their respective name. The issue arrives when I want to ignore "The ", "A ", "An " and other various non-alphanumeric characters (Talking to you "Weird Al" Yankovic and [dialog]). Django has a nice start '^(An?|The) +' but I want to ignore those and a few others of my choice. I am doing this in Django, using a MySQL db with utf8_bin collation.

  • Is it possible to return as SiteMap as a JsonResult?

    - by Paul Suart
I've got a very simple Action on my Controller that's attempting to return my XmlSiteMap as a JsonResult: public ActionResult Index() { var nodes = SiteMap.Provider.RootNode; return new JsonResult() { Data = nodes, JsonRequestBehavior = JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet }; } However, when I call the Action, an InvalidOperationException is thrown: "A circular reference was detected while serializing an object of type 'System.Web.SiteMapNode'." Is there a way to Json serialize a SiteMap, or indeed any object that has children of the same type?

  • Best way to detect that HTML5 <canvas> is not supported

    - by brainjam
The standard way to deal with situations where the browser does not support the HTML5 <canvas> tag is to embed some fallback content, usually a polite version (and sometimes a less polite version) of <canvas>Your browser sucks</canvas> But the rest of the page remains the same, which may be inappropriate or misleading. I'd like some way of detecting canvas non-support so that I can present the rest of my page accordingly. What would you recommend?

  • Best way to enter numeric values with decimal points?

    - by Andrew Grant
In my app users need to be able to enter numeric values with decimal places. The iPhone doesn't provides a keyboard that's specific for this purpose - only a number pad and a keyboard with numbers and symbols. Is there an easy way to use the latter and prevent any non-numeric input from being entered without having to regex the final result? Thanks!

  • ASP MVC - Getting Controller Level error handling

    - by RP
How to get Controller-Level error handling: This is my map-route: routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); And I have 2 controllers - HomeController and AwayController I want both both controllers to handle their own errors For example, a call to /Home/InvalidAction would be handled by one method and /Away/InvalidAction would be handled by another method Where InvalidAction currently results in a 404 as there's no Action method with that name

  • Boost singletons

    - by Ockonal
Hi guys, at this page: http://torjo.com/tobias/index.html#boost_utility_singleton._usage I saw that boost has singleton class which gets second param: recreate instance if it's deleted (when we call the singleton). I can't find the implementation of this singleton in boost library. There is only singletons from serialization and pool. What's wrong?

  • In CodeIgniter, how to clear "form data" after redirecting page

    - by Obay
I'm not sure I explained it correctly in the question title, so here's the details: Login controller: function authenticate() { if ( authorized ) { redirect('lobby'); } else { redirect('login'); } } Lobby controller: function index() { //load lobby view } What happens is that in the login page, I enter user / pass, click Login, then authenticate() is called, and redirects me to the Lobby. However, when I click refresh while on the Lobby, the login form gets submitted again, so I get "logged in" again. How do I prevent that from happening?

  • Tool for debugging KVO/Bindings in Cocoa

    - by Raphael Sebbe
Is there any tool to log current observers of a given object, in the spirit of what "gdb info gc-roots" does? I found "gdb info gc-references" could do that (sort of) as a by-product of its original purpose, but that won't work with non garbage collected apps. Thanks!

  • Efficiency of purely functional programming

    - by Sid
Does anyone know what is the worst possible asymptotic slowdown that can happen when programming purely functionally as opposed to imperatively (i.e. allowing side-effects)? Clarification from comment by itowlson: is there any problem for which the best known non-destructive algorithm is asymptotically worse than the best known destructive algorithm, and if so by how much?

  • ASP.NET Caching : Good As Well As Bad ! Page shows old content!

    - by Shyju
I have an ASP.NET website where i have implemented page level caching using the OutPutCache directive. This boosted the page performance. My pages has few parts(Some buttons, links and labels) which are specific to the logged in user.If user is not logged in,they will see different links. Now Since i implemented the page level caching,Even after the user logged in,It's showing the old page content(Links and buttons meant for the Non logged in User). Caching is obviously good. But how to get rid of this problem ? Do i need to completely remove caching ?
