  • Why .NET Boolean has TrueLiteral and TrueString?

    - by user309937
Why in Boolean type there are two fields with the same value? internal const int True = 1; internal const int False = 0; internal const string TrueLiteral = "True"; internal const string FalseLiteral = "False"; and public static readonly string TrueString; public static readonly string FalseString; static Boolean() { TrueString = "True"; FalseString = "False"; } in reflector generated code, methods don't use those strings but: public string ToString(IFormatProvider provider) { if (!this) { return "False"; } return "True"; } would't it be better to use those const values?

  • ASP.NET catching controls from html generated from the database

    - by Drahcir
I have a set of websites that basically do the exact same thing in terms of functionality, the only thing that varies is the css and how the html is laid out. Is there a way to generate the html from a database (ie retreiving the html from a table) and then catching the controls (like buttons, textboxes etc) from the code behind? UPDATE: Here is an example of what I want to acheive: <html> <div id="generatedContent" runat="server"> <!-- the following content has been generated from the database on the page load event --> <div> This is a textbox <input id="tb1" runat="server" type="text" /> This is a button <input type="submit" id="btn1" runat="server" value="My Button" /> </div> </div> </html> This is the code behind var tb1 = new HtmlControls.HtmlInputText(); tb1 = FindControl("tb1"); var btn1 = new New HtmlControls.HtmlInputSubmit(); btn1 = FindControl("btn1"); Now obviously since the html has been generated from the database (ie after the page has already been initialised) the FindControl method will return null.

  • ASP.net MVC DropLownList db.SaveChanges not saving selection

    - by WMIF
I have looked through a ton of tutorials and suggestions on how to work with DropDownList in MVC. I was able to get most of it working, but the selected item is not saving into the database. I am using MVC 3 and Razor for the view. My DropDownList is getting created with the correct values and good looking HTML. When I set a breakpoint, I can see the correct selected item ID in the model getting sent to controller. When the view goes back to the index, the DropDownList value is not set. The other values save just fine. Here are the related views. The DropDownList is displaying a list of ColorModel names as text with the ID as the value. public class ItemModel { [Key] public int ItemID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public virtual ColorModel Color { get; set; } } public class ItemEditViewModel { public int ItemID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public int ColorID { get; set; } public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> Colors { get; set; } } public class ColorModel { [Key] public int ColorID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public virtual IList<ItemModel> Items { get; set; } } Here are the controller actions. public ActionResult Edit(int id) { ItemModel itemmodel = db.Items.Find(id); ItemEditViewModel itemEditModel; itemEditModel = new ItemEditViewModel(); itemEditModel.ItemID = itemmodel.ItemID; if (itemmodel.Color != null) { itemEditModel.ColorID = itemmodel.Color.ColorID; } itemEditModel.Description = itemmodel.Description; itemEditModel.Name = itemmodel.Name; itemEditModel.Colors = db.Colors .ToList() .Select(x => new SelectListItem { Text = x.Name, Value = x.ColorID.ToString() }); return View(itemEditModel); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult Edit(ItemEditViewModel itemEditModel) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { ItemModel itemmodel; itemmodel = new ItemModel(); itemmodel.ItemID = itemEditModel.ItemID; itemmodel.Color = db.Colors.Find(itemEditModel.ColorID); itemmodel.Description = itemEditModel.Description; itemmodel.Name = itemEditModel.Name; db.Entry(itemmodel).State = EntityState.Modified; db.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } return View(itemEditModel); } The view has this for the DropDownList, and the others are just EditorFor(). @Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.ColorID, Model.Colors, "Select a Color") When I set the breakpoint on the db.Color.Find(...) line, I show this in the Locals window for itemmodel.Color: {System.Data.Entity.DynamicProxies.ColorModel_0EB80C07207CA5D88E1A745B3B1293D3142FE2E644A1A5202B90E5D2DAF7C2BB} When I expand that line, I can see the ColorID that I chose from the dropdown box, but it does not save into the database.

Hi All, I'm using a code-behind function (called TestFx) in my binding expression. I'm passing a string and the function accepts a string but I still get a runtime error saying invalid args. But if I change the method to accept an object and inspect the value, "it's a string!" Can someone please explain? -rod ProductDescription: <asp:Label ID="ProductDescriptionLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# TestFx(Eval("ProductDescription")) %>' /> <br />

  • ASP.NET MVC Cookie loses value when page is changed

    - by Jova
When a user logs in to my site, I create a cookie with some info in it. However, whenever they change page from logging in, the cookie loses it's value. Cookie is still there but it's empty. I've checked my code and the cookie doesn't get rewritten by anything I've done. Does anyone have any idea to why the cookie becomes empty when the page is changed?

  • Setting current culture with threads in ASP.NET MVC

    - by mare
Here's an example of SetCulture attribute which inside does something like this: public void OnActionExecuting(ActionExecutingContext filterContext) { string cultureCode = SetCurrentLanguage(filterContext); if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(cultureCode)) return; HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies.Add( new HttpCookie("Culture", cultureCode) { HttpOnly = true, Expires = DateTime.Now.AddYears(100) } ); filterContext.HttpContext.Session["Culture"] = cultureCode; CultureInfo culture = new CultureInfo(cultureCode); System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = culture; System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = culture; } I was wondering how does this affect a site with multiple users logged on and each one setting their own culture? What is the scope of a thread here with regards to the IIS worker process (w3wp) that the site is running in?

  • abandon session in asp.net on browser close..kill session cookie

    - by Tuviah
So I have a website where I use session start and end events to track and limit open instances of our web application, even on the same computer. On page unload i call a session enabled page method which then called session.abandon. This triggers session end event and clears the session variable but unfortunately does not kill the session cookie!! as a result if other browser instances are open there are problems because their session state just disappeared...and much worse than this when I open the site again with the zombie session still not expired, I get multiple session start and session end events on any subsequent postbacks. This happens on all browsers. so how do I truly kill the session (force the cookie to expire)

  • Matching .NET References to Namespaces

    - by maxp
This seems confusing to me - im creating a class library, and adding all the necessary references for the source files contained in it. Now, off the bat, there were over 300 compiler errors complaining about missing namespaces. The library will now compile after i just added all of the System.* references, however this is obviously not the best way. I.e. if a classes needs using System.Web.Script;, there is no System.Web.Script reference, how would i find out which one of these references contained it? System.Web didnt.

  • Readonly SiteMapNodes in ASP.Net MVC?

    - by BenN
I'm using MVCSiteMap as a SiteMapProvider for my MVC site. I have a node set up like so.... <mvcSiteMapNode key="1" title="Product" controller="Product" action="Display" isDynamic="true" dynamicParameters="id"> <mvcSiteMapNode key="11" title="More Details" controller="Product" action="MoreDetails" isDynamic="true" dynamicParameters="id" /> </mvcSiteMapNode> ...Which means I can go to ~/Product/Display/12 and get a correct sitemap node for product id 12 (in this case just Product. And I can go to ~/Product/MoreDetails/12 and get the sitemap path for the MoreDetails (Product - More Details). The problem is that the link back to Product in this sitemap doesn't work - it skips the id off the end, instead linking to ~/Product/Display/. Which sucks. I've discovered I can edit the Title of a node using SiteMap.CurrentNode.Title = "My New Title"; But... SiteMap.CurrentNode.ParentNode.Url = "http://www.google.com"; Doesn't set the Url for the parent node; it gets the default link described before. Any ideas how I can set the URL of a SiteMapNode?

  • paging helper asp.net mvc

    - by csetzkorn
Hi, I have implemented a paging html helper (adapted from steven sanderson's book). This is the current code: public static string PageLinks(this HtmlHelper html, int currentPage, int totalPages, Func pageUrl) { StringBuilder result = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 1; i <= totalPages; i++) { TagBuilder tag = new TagBuilder("a"); tag.MergeAttribute("href", pageUrl(i)); tag.InnerHtml = i.ToString(); if (i == currentPage) tag.AddCssClass("selectedPage"); result.AppendLine(tag.ToString()); } return result.ToString(); } This produces a bunch of links to each page of my items. If there are many pages this can be a bit overwhelming. I am looking for a similar implementation which produces something less overwhelming like this: where 6 is the current page. I am sure someone must have implemented something similar ... before I have to re-implement the wheel. Thanks. Christian

  • [ASP.NET] IIS7 downloading file length

    - by GTD
I've following code for file download: FileInfo fileInfo = new FileInfo(filePath); context.Response.Clear(); context.Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"; context.Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + System.IO.Path.GetFileName(filePath)); context.Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", fileInfo.Length.ToString()); context.Response.WriteFile(filePath); context.Response.End(); When I run it on my local IIS6 it works fine. Web browser (tested on IE8, Firefox 3.5.2, Opera 10) shows file length before I start download the file. When I run this code on remote IIS7, web browser doesn't shows file length. File length is unknown. Why I don't get file length when this code runs under IIS7?

  • ASP.NET data bind two-way, bi-directional from code behind

    - by Konrad
Hello, so for two-way (bi-directional) databinding in ASP, we do this... <asp:textbox id="txtField" runat="server" text='<%# Bind("SomeField") %>'> </asp:textbox> SomeField is located on the DataSource of the DetailsView that serves as the container for the textbox. Alternatively I could do this from code-behind (using the textbox's OnDataBinding event): protected void SomeField_OnDataBinding(object sender, EventArgs e) { ((TextBox)sender).Text = Eval("SomeField").ToString(); } However, EVAL is read-only...how can I specify Bind (two-way) from code-behind?

  • Adding controls dynamically at design time vb.net

    - by chris
I have been developing some custom smart tags. I am using a DesignerActionMethodItem which gets me to a fired method in code. When I try to hit the controls.Add the control is added but it seems the designer is unaware of it. It is never serialized and it goes away when the form is refreshed in the designer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am sort of stuck and google hasn't helped me. Please don't send me anything about smart tags that has nothing to do with adding controls dynamically at design time, I have already read so many looking for this.

  • C# ASP.NET Binding Controls via Generic Method

    - by OverTech
I have a few web applications that I maintain and I find myself very often writing the same block of code over and over again to bind a GridView to a data source. I'm trying to create a Generic method to handle data binding but I'm having trouble getting it to work with Repeaters and DataLists. Here is the Generic method I have so far: public void BindControl<T>(T control, SqlCommand sql) where T : System.Web.UI.WebControls.BaseDataBoundControl { cmd = sql; cn.Open(); SqlDataReader dr = cmd.ExecuteReader(); if (dr.HasRows) { control.DataSource = dr; control.DataBind(); } dr.Close(); cn.Close(); } That way I can just define my CommandText then make a call to "BindControls(myGridView, cmd)" instead of retyping this same basic block of code every time I need to bind a grid. The problem is, this doesn't work with Repeaters or DataLists. Each of these controls inherit their respective "DataSource" and "DataBind" methods from different classes. Someone on another forum suggested that I implement an interface, but I'm not sure how to make that work either. The GridView, Datalist and Repeater get their respective "DataBind" methods from BaseDataBoundControl, BaseDataList, and Repeater classes. How would I go about creating a single interface to tie them all together? Or am I better off just using 3 overloads for this method? Dave

  • ASP.NET - fast Segmented downoad of file through webservice

    - by H4mm3rHead
Hi, Im doing this project where i need to download files through a webservice (images, videos). The download MUST go through an existing webservice. The existing webservice was made when there were no need to upload and download files but the project has changed and now we need to do It through a webservice. Right now I have implemented the download as a method that returns a byte[], I open a streamreader and resds the entire file into a byte[] and returns it to my method. This is working file on small files <~1Mb, above it takes too long time. I want to show some progress (e.g. when the user downlaods a 20Mb video) which i cannot do right now. And i want to make it download much faster (is a strategy to use multithreading and several threads that downloads a part of the file?). It is within a WPF application i need to do this. Any ideas on how to approach this?

  • RenderPartial missing from Html Helper in ASP.NET MVC 2

    - by Guy
I've just converted an application from MVC 1 to MVC 2 using the VS2010 wizard. Not found is the Html.RenderPartial which I have sprinkled around a number of views. I am guessing that this is something that I've done wrong because I see no mention of this as a breaking change in the white papers and docs. Everything I'm using is RTM/RTW and no beta or RC versions.

  • How to Select Multiple Records from Multiple Tables at Once - SQL Server/C#/.NET/T-SQL

    - by peace
I have two tables Customer and CustomerPhone. Customer usually has multiple phone numbers, so when i run select statement on customer 101, i will get multiple records due to the multiple phone numbers. As you see below all the "Phone" and "Fax" field belongs to CustomerPhone table. These are considered as two records in the CustomerPhone table whereas the rest of fields relate to Customer table which is a single record. What should i do to fill Phone and Fax field in this case? Should i run select statement on CustomerPhone first and then run select statement on Customer?
