  • C# ASP.NET update SQL database with values from text boxes

    Here's what I have. User enters values into text boxes (personal information etc.) and then presses a save changes button. The values in these text boxes get stored in an SQL database. The problem I have is that when updating the database using the values from the text boxes, the page refreshes and the values in the text boxes are lost (or rather they return to the values that are already in the database as the data from the database is loaded into the text boxes on Page_Load). When I update the database using valuse stored in variables it all works fine. What is the best way to update with the values from the text boxes?

Then I started to think about moving the lock to the GetCustomers and UpdateCustomer methods, but think again: "is it useful at all?"

I dont actually want the email to be sent, I just want to make sure that my code is correct. So I want to be able to check that the email is placed in a queue folder for example.     I'm adding a ToolTip to a ListViewItem. However, the ToolTip only shows up when the user hovers over the first cell in the row to which the ToolTip has been applied. MyListViewItem.ToolTipText = "Important Message" The only other code I have related to ToolTips is this: MyListView.ShowItemToolTips = True Any idea how I can make the ToolTip show up on a specific cell in a row, or even the entire row?     I'm attempting to implement a repository pattern with my poco objects auto generated from my edmx. In my repository class, I have: IObjectSet<E> _objectSet; private IObjectSet<E> objectSet { get { if (_objectSet == null) { _objectSet = this._context.CreateObjectSet<E>(); } return _objectSet; } } public IQueryable<E> GetQuery(Func<E, bool> where) { return objectSet.Where(where).AsQueryable<E>(); } public IList<E> SelectAll(Func<E, bool> where) { return GetQuery(where).ToList(); } Where E is the one of my POCO classes. When I trace the database and run this: IList<Contact> c = contactRepository.SelectAll(r => r.emailAddress == "[email protected]"); It shows up in the sql trace as a select for everything in my Contact table. Where am I going wrong here? Is there a better way to do this? Does an objectset not lazy load... so it omitted the where clause?     I have a scenario where I have multiple threads adding to a queue and multiple threads reading from the same queue. If the queue reaches a specific size all threads that are filling the queue will be blocked on add until an item is removed from the queue.     I can't seem to find the property that controls visibility of labels in pie charts. I need to turn the labels off as the information is available in the legend. Anyone know what property I can use in code behind? I tried setting the series labels to nothing Chart1.Series[i].Label = string.Empty; but the labels seem to show up anyway.

    I apologize for such a question that likely has a trivial solution, but I strangely could not find a concise API for this problem. Essentially, I would like to truncate a string such that it its length is not longer than a given value. I am writing to a database table and want to ensure that the values I write meet the constraint of the column's datatype. For instance, it would be nice if I could write the following: string NormalizeLength(string value, int maxLength) { return value.Substring(0, maxLength); } Unfortunately, this raises an exception because maxLength exceeds the string boundaries. Of course, I could write a function like the following, but I was hoping that something like this already exists. string NormalizeLength(string value, int maxLength) { return value.Length <= maxLength ? value : value.Substring(0, maxLength); } Where is the elusive API that performs this task? Is there one?

This action is done thousands of times a day, and I get this exception about once every 5 seconds. From what I understand it happens when something changes in the database in the period between creating DataContext and updating it. Am I right? What's the problem here and how can I fix it?

    Hello, I am fairly new to MVC, but after playing with it (MVC 3/Razor), I am hooked. I have a few questions: 1) What is the best, or most widely used pattern to develop MVC apps in? Repository, DDD, UOW? 2) I am using the Entity Framework 4, so could some please explain to me or point me to a good source that will explain the Repository Pattern w/EF4? Doesn't EF4 take place as the business layer and the data access layer? Does the Repository Pattern even provide a benefit? 3) Also, one last question, could someone explain the whole relationship between the Controller, the Model and the View? I get the basics, but maybe a little more in depth of the correct way to use it. View Models - Say I have a view that displays customer info, and one that edits it, should I have a view model and an edit model, or can the be passed around? 4) Examples??     I have a web site that is throwing OutOfMemoryExceptions on whenever it gets to the following spot in my code: XmlSerializer xs = new XmlSerializer(t, xoverrides); Seeing how this only happens when it is on the web server, i don't have a ton of information on why this is happening.
