• Domain in PENDINGDELETE, question about drop

  A domain I want is in the pendingDelete stage according to WHOIS. I have been monitoring it since redemptionPeriod, and it entered into pendingDelete 5 days ago today. After checking a few services (SnapNames, etc), they report it is scheduled to drop on the 11th (7 days, by my calculations). I'm not quite sure what to believe. The domain isn't highly valuable. It is to me and one other company. I can see no backorders placed on the big name sites, so I'm thinking of trying to get it without a backorder service. Any insight as to when it will actually drop? I've read 11AM-2PM PST, but I'm unsure. Thanks.

  I am running out of space in the /var partition. I have plenty of space in my /home partition. How do I shrink the /home partition to make more space for the /var partition? I have read some blogs that say to use the GParted Live CD. As a new user, I'm not quite sure if this is the ideal route. What is the best way to create more space for /var ? • How difficult it is to develope Apps for Android and iOS? [on hold]

  I'm an experienced web developer in PHP, HTML, Javascript, MySQL, CSS and I'm running communities where people can register to be able to login and do some stuff. Now more and more people are requestion an App, I told them that I have no time and experience to develope Apps with many functions for such complex communities I am running, but then the users told me what would be enough for them and this sounds already simpler to me: An app to install on Android / iOS just to be able to login (+ autologin), so they appear always online in the community when they have internet connection. Then only 1 function like a counter of new activities regarding their user account (new messages, new replies, etc..), and if they click on the app then a browser window will open to read the info at the main website. So, what you think, it will be a big thing to develope such an app for the members? Is there a big diffrence between developing for Android and iOS? How to test the App if you don't have an Android or iOS phone in example?

• VirtualBox install

  I am using Win 7 Ultimate. I have the current version of Virtualbox. I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 from the Ubuntu website and the install as disc image. Ubuntu probably goes thru about 75% of the install and then I get an error message saying that there is a hardware issue and cannot continue. The error message also says it cannot read the disc, etc, etc. I have downloaded 2 different versions of Ubuntu. I had downloaded and re-installed VirtualBox twice. I also tried 12.04 but came into the same issue. I downloaded the "desktop AMD-64" Thank you in advance for your help.

• Is age a factor when looking for internships? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Is it ever too old to learn how to become a programmer? I'm 30 years old going back to school for a 2nd degree in Computer Science. I will be transferring to my local state university this fall and would like to know if my age will be a factor when applying for internships. I have already read a few threads about age and careers: Is it too late to start your career as a programmer at the age of 30? Does it matter that you started developing at 26? While it is reassuring to know that people are getting entry-level programming jobs at 30+, what about internships? Should I even bother with bigger companies like Google, Microsoft, or Apple? I know we have laws against age-discrimination but lets not pretend we live in a perfect world where everyone follows the rules.

But I am unable to deal with the authorization step to use the API (currently using ClientLogin under development). I tried to read the OAuth documentation but couldn't figure out how to proceed. • Dual monitor Unity launcher opening on wrong monitor in 11.10

  I just upgraded to Oneiric and now the Unity Dash launcher is on my left screen. I really want it on my right screen. But how do I do that? Why do I want the Dash on my right screen? My left screen is a smaller older monitor that I use to read/watch documentation or keep my music player open. I work on my right screen, that is bigger and is a better monitor. I have an Nvidia card and in the nvidia settings it is setup that the right monitor is my primary monitor, but Oneiric doesn't follow this setting anymore. I thought this was a bug, but is seems to be intended behavior... https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/742544 Some poster in this thread explains that he "patched it locally", but I have no idea how to do this. • Master Typing Productivity when Programming/SysAdmin [closed]

  I try to learn how to type fast and have managed to learn a lot. I am quite good at typing english text now. I do a lot of programmation though and if QWERTY seems fitted for english text, it doesn't seem fitted to type Ruby, Python, Javascript, Command Line or C++... I have read plenty of articles and if I respect their guidelines/tips, I am using a lot my right pinky specially to type []{}|\;:'"/?=+ enter delete. As you can see this symbols are the ones which are the most used when you are programming and we are using only one weak finger to reach them. Am I learning wrong? Is there is a way to be more productive? (I don't really want to switch to DVORAK) Have you some experiences/tips to share regarding this issue? • How to write loosely coupled classes in node.js

  I am trying to understand how to design node.js applications, but it seems there is something I can't grasp about asynchronous programming. Let's say my application needs to access a database. In a synchronous environment I would implement a data access class with a read() method, returning an associative array. In node.js, because code is executed asynchronously, this method can't return a value, so, after execution, it will have to "do" something as a side effect. It will then contain at least 1 line of extraneous code which has nothing to do with data access. Multiply this for all methods and all classes and you will very soon have an unmanageable "code soup". What is the proper way to handle this problem? Am I approaching it the wrong way?

• Should I understand SVN before I jump to GIT?

  I work in a department where no one has ever used source control before, including myself. I am trying to push the concept. I have spent a little while researching SVN. I some basics learned. I can Create/update/checkout/commit with command line and from Tortoise. I am starting to learn how to tag and branch but still confused a lot about conflicts between branches and trunk etc. I am still learning, but I do not have a physical person who can show me anything. Its all from books/tutorials and trial and error. From what I have read online it seems like git is the better thing to know, but its also more complicated. I don't want to overwhelm myself. Should I continue to master svn before moving to git or would I be wiser to just jump to git now? Are there pros and cons to both approaches?

• Parsing glGetShaderInfoLog() to get error info. Is this reliable, or is there a better way?

  I want to get a list of errors and their line numbers so I can display the error information different to how it's formatted in the error string, and also show the line in error. It looks easy enough to just parse the result of glGetShaderInfoLog(), look for "ERROR:" then read the next number up to : and then the next, and then the error description up to the next newline. But the OpenGL docs say "Application developers should not expect different OpenGL implementations to produce identical information logs." Which makes me worry that my code may behave incorrectly on different systems. I don't need them to be identical, I just need them to follow the same format. So is there a better way to get a list of errors with line number separate, is it safe to assume that they'll always follow the "ERROR: 0:123:" format, or is there simply no reliable way to do this? Thanks!

  Newbie here. Trying out Ubuntu for kicks. I have a 10.04 Ubuntu system dual booting on my Windows 7 laptop, fully updated, an Asus A53S. I have an external Samsung monitor/tv hooked up via HDMI. I'm getting sound from the external monitor fine when using Win7 but can't get anything with Ubuntu. I've read threads here about similar stuff and they say go check my sound options but I don't have any additional options than the one listed - Internal Audio. What else can I check/do?

So I'm finding the Additional Drivers menu. To install nVidia driver. I started looking for System -> Administration and not finding it. I have an icon that says System Settings and it has any option related to drivers. NOTE: I am using Ubuntu 12.10.
