• Will my laptop be ok with this different laptop charger?

  So the original laptop charger broke and I switched to a charger from a laptop that I no longer use. The specifications from each are: Original Input:AC 100-240V 1.5A 50-60Hz Output: DC 19V 3.42A Other Charger Input: AC 100-240V 1.5A 50-60Hz Output: 20V 3.25A Yes, the polarity is the same. Also, the wattage has a difference of .02 from what I understand. Is wattage ever important, and more specifically, a wattage difference of that size. Feel free to ask me any other questions about the chargers and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

• LEMP Stack on Ubuntu Server 13.04 not parsing PHP Switch Statement Properly

• Introduction to LinqPad Driver for StreamInsight 2.1

  We are announcing the availability of the LinqPad driver for StreamInsight 2.1. The purpose of this blog post is to offer a quick introduction into the new features that we added to the StreamInsight LinqPad driver. We’ll show you how to connect to a remote server, how to inspect the entities present of that server, how to compose on top of them and how to manage their lifetime. Installing the driver Info on how to install the driver can be found in an earlier blog post here. Establishing connections As you click on the “Add Connection” link in the left pane you will notice that now it’s possible to build the data context automatically. The new driver appears as an option in the upper list, and if you pick it you will open a connection dialog that lets you connect to a remote StreamInsight server. The connection dialog lets you specify the address of the remote server. You will notice that it’s possible to pick up the binding information from the configuration file of the LinqPad application (which is normally in the same folder as LinqPad.exe and is called LinqPad.exe.config). In order for the context to be generated you need to pick an application from the server. The control is editable hence you can create a new application if you don’t want to make changes to an existing application. If you choose a new application name you will be prompted for confirmation before this gets created. Once you click OK the connection is created and you can start issuing queries against the remote server. If there’s any connectivity error the connection is marked with a red X and you can see the error message informing you what went wrong (i.e., the remote server could not be reached etc.). The context for remote servers Let’s take a look at what happens after we are connected successfully. Every LinqPad query runs inside a context – think of it as a class that wraps all the code that you’re writing. If you’re connecting to a live server the context will contain the following: The application object itself. All entities present in this application (sources, sinks, subjects and processes). The picture below shows a snapshot of the left pane of LinqPad after a successful connection. Every entity on the server has a different icon which will allow users to figure out its purpose. You will also notice that some entities have a string in parentheses following the name. It should be interpreted as such: the first name is the name of the property of the context class and the second name is the name of the entity as it exists on the server. Not all valid entity names are valid identifier names so in cases where we had to make a transformation you see both. Note also that as you hover over the entities you get IntelliSense with their types – more on that later. Remoting is not supported As you play with the entities exposed by the context you will notice that you can’t read and write directly to/from them. If for instance you’re trying to dump the content of an entity you will get an error message telling you that in the current version remoting is not supported. This is because the entity lives on the remote server and dumping its content means reading the events produced by this entity into the local process. ObservableSource.Dump(); Will yield the following error: Reading from a remote 'System.Reactive.Linq.IQbservable`1[System.Int32]' is not supported. Use the 'Microsoft.ComplexEventProcessing.Linq.RemoteProvider.Bind' method to read from the source using a remote observer. This basically tells you that you can call the Bind() method to direct the output of this source to a sink that has to be defined on the remote machine as well. You can’t bring the results to the LinqPad window unless you write code specifically for that. Compose queries You may ask – what's the purpose of all that? After all the same information is present in the EventFlowDebugger, why bother with showing it in LinqPad? First of all, What gets exposed in LinqPad is not what you see in the debugger. In LinqPad we have a property on the context class for every entity that lives on the server. Because LinqPad offers IntelliSense we in fact have much more information about the entity, and more importantly we can compose with that entity very easily. For example, let’s say that this code creates an entity: using (var server = Server.Connect(...)) {     var a = server.CreateApplication("WhiteFish");     var src = a         .DefineObservable<int>(() => Observable.Range(0, 3))         .Deploy("ObservableSource"); If later we want to compose with the source we have to fetch it and then we can bind something to     a.GetObservable<int>("ObservableSource)").Bind(... This means that we had to know a bunch of things about this: that it’s a source, that it’s an observable, it produces a result with payload Int32 and it’s named “ObservableSource”. Only the second and last bits of information are present in the debugger, by the way. As you type in the query window you see that all the entities are present, you get IntelliSense support for them and it’s much easier to make sense of what’s available. Let’s look at a scenario where composition is plausible. With the new programming model it’s possible to create “cold” sources that are parameterized. There was a way to accomplish that even in the previous version by passing parameters to the adapters, but this time it’s much more elegant because the expression declares what parameters are required. Say that we hover the mouse over the ThrottledSource source – we will see that its type is Func<int, int, IQbservable<int>> - this in effect means that we need to pass two int parameters before we can get a source that produces events, and the type for those events is int – in the particular case of my example I had the source produce a range of integers and the two parameters were the start and end of the range. So we see how a developer can create a source that is not running yet. Then someone else (e.g. an administrator) can pass whatever parameters appropriate and run the process. Proxy Types Here’s an interesting scenario – what if someone created a source on a server but they forgot to tell you what type they used. Worse yet, they might have used an anonymous type and even though they can refer to it by name you can’t figure out how to use that type. Let’s walk through an example that shows how you can compose against types you don’t need to have the definition of. This is how we can create a source that returns an anonymous type: Application.DefineObservable(() => Observable.Range(1, 10).Select(i => new { I = i })).Deploy("O1"); Now if we refresh the connection we can see the new source named O1 appear in the list. But what’s more important is that we now have a type to work with. So we can compose a query that refers to the anonymous type. var threshold = new StreamInsightDynamicDriver.TypeProxies.AnonymousType1_0<int>(5); var filter = from i in O1              where i > threshold              select i; filter.Deploy("O2"); You will notice that the anonymous type defined with this statement: new { I = i } can now be manipulated by a client that does not have access to it because the LinqPad driver has generated another type in its stead, named StreamInsightDynamicDriver.TypeProxies.AnonymousType1_0. This type has all the properties and fields of the type defined on the server, except in this case we can instantiate values and use it to compose more queries. It is worth noting that the same thing works for types that are not anonymous – the test is if the LinqPad driver can resolve the type or not. If it’s not possible then a new type will be generated that approximates the type that exists on the server. Control metadata In addition to composing processes on top of the existing entities we can do other useful things. We can delete them – nothing new here as we simply access the entities through the Entities collection of the application class. Here is where having their real name in parentheses comes handy. There’s another way to find out what’s behind a property – dump its expression. The first line in the output tells us what’s the name of the entity used to build this property in the context. Runtime information So let’s create a process to see what happens. We can bind a source to a sink and run the resulting process. If you right click on the connection you can refresh it and see the process present in the list of entities. Then you can drag the process to the query window and see that you can have access to process object in the Processes collection of the application. • No Internet connectivity to linux container on Debian

  I have created a linux container with debian-wheezy template. I am not able to have internet connectivity from the container. Below is my network configuration. Could some one please help me in figuring out the issue ? I can ping to the eth0 ip address in the container from the host. • Granting rights to the sa account using osql

  I'm installing sql instances through script, and after creating a certain instance, I cannot get the sa account to be enabled through osql. What I've tried osql -S .\INSTANCENAME -E use master ALTER LOGIN sa ENABLE GO Using SSMS to enable the account (by logging in using Windows Auth., 'New query', and exactly the same query as in 1.) Suggestions in this issue No. 2. is actually working; and the account is enabled instantly. No 1 is not working, not even with the suggestions provided in 3., I have restarted the SQL services after executing the commands in osql. Additional info Windows 2003 Server, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise, No password policies apply to the account.

  How exactly do you have to interpret the output of a commands "usage" output, in bash for example. For example, on my OS X, cp gives me usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file target_file cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file ... target_directory What does the nested options, like -H within -R, indicate? Does upper and lower case have any meaning? When is an argument optional, required? I need to implement a telnet command line against a program of mine and I would like to get this straight.

• prevent filesystem from entering read-only mode

  I have found that my server's filesystem is continuously entering read-only mode. There have been some issues with the raid1 array, but I have removed the bad disk from the array. However, it is still physically plugged into the system because I haven't had a chance to go over to the datacentre, I suspect udev and the system kernel is still picking up the bad disk and throwing errors. When this happens, my system becomes non-operational which kind of defeats the purpose of having a raid1. Note, ata1 is the bad disk (I think ata1 corresponds to /dev/sda because they are both first in line). Under mdadm, /dev/sda1,2 is no longer being used, but I can't prevent the system kernel from continuing to query that disk when I am no longer using it and throwing these errors. Is there a way to prevent my filesystem from automatically going into read-only mode? Furthermore, is it safe to do so? Thanks in advance.   Hello, i am working with Social Networking iphone app which require remote data connection. So i hired a php developer in order to provide me RESTful services. But when i start working with him, he arguing me that he will not make stored procedures and web services. Instead of he suggested me to pass query as a parameter. Suppose If I have to call Search service, he told me to send POST request with 3 parameters: Query="select * from users", username=abd and password = 123 And i thing there is no such architecture in order to use remote data. Then he is saying it is possible through socket programming. And I am 100% sure this is not an appropriate way to access remote data. This is simply illogical. Thousands of iphone application using REST/SOAP services to make remote data connection He just declined me to provide RESTful services. Please its my heartily advice to all developers that post your own views over here. So that I can show to that developers that these are the views from all developers worldwide.

• How to filter a mysql database with user input on a website and then spit the filtered table back to the website? [migrated]

  I've been researching this on google for literally 3 weeks, racking my brain and still not quite finding anything. I can't believe this is so elusive. (I'm a complete beginner so if my terminology sounds stupid then that's why.) I have a database in mysql/phpmyadmin on my web host. I'm trying to create a front end that will allow a user to specify criteria for querying the database in a way that they don't have to know sql, basically just combo boxes and checkboxes on a form. Then have this form 'submit' a query to the database, and show the filtered tables. This is how the SQL looks in Microsoft Access: PARAMETERS TEXTINPUT1 Text ( 255 ), NUMBERINPUT1 IEEEDouble; // pops up a list of parameters for the user to input SELECT DISTINCT Table1.Column1, Table1.Column2, Table1.Column3,* // selects only the unique rows in these three columns FROM Table1 // the table where this query is happening WHERE (((Table1.Column1) Like TEXTINPUT1] AND ((Table1.Column2)<=[NUMBERINPUT1] AND ((Table1.Column3)>=[NUMBERINPUT1])); // the criteria for the filter, it's comparing the user input parameters to the data in the rows and only selecting matches according to the equal sign, or greater than + equal sign, or less than + equal sign What I don't get: WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I SUPPOSED TO USE (that isn't totally hard)!? I've tried google fusion tables - doesn't filter right with numerical data or empty cells in rows, can't relate tables I've tried DataTables.net, can't filter right with numerical data and can't use SQL without a bunch of indepth knowledge, not even sure it can if you have that.. I've looked into using jQuery with google spreadsheets, doesn't work at all either I have no idea how I'm supposed to build a front end with my database. Every place that looks promising (like zohocreator) is asking for money, and is far too simplified to be able to do the LIKE criteria or SELECT DISTINCT stuff.

• umount bind of stale NFS

  i've got a problem removing mounts created with mount -o bind from a locally mounted NFS folder. Assume the following mount structure: NFS mounted directory: $ mount -o rw,soft,tcp,intr,timeo=10,retrans=2,retry=1 \ 10.20.0.1:/srv/source /srv/nfs-source Bound directory: $ mount -o bind /srv/nfs-source/sub1 /srv/bind-target/sub1 Which results in this mount map $ mount /dev/sda1 on / type ext3 (rw,errors=remount-ro) # ... 10.20.0.1:/srv/source on /srv/nfs-source type nfs (rw,soft,tcp,intr,timeo=10,retrans=2,retry=1,addr=10.20.0.100) /srv/nfs-source/sub1 on /srv/bind-target/sub1 type none (rw,bind) If the server (10.20.0.1) goes down (eg ifdown eth0), the handles become stale, which is expected. I can now un-mount the NFS mount with force $ umount -f /srv/nfs-source This takes some seconds, but works without any problems. However, i cannot un-mount the bound directory in /srv/bind-target/sub1. The forced umount results in: $ umount -f /srv/bind-target/sub1 umount2: Stale NFS file handle umount: /srv/bind-target/sub1: Stale NFS file handle umount2: Stale NFS file handle Here is a trace http://pastebin.com/ipvvrVmB I've tried umounting the sub-directories beforehand, find any processes accessing anything within the NFS or bind mounts (there are none). lsof also complains: $ lsof -n lsof: WARNING: can't stat() nfs file system /srv/nfs-source Output information may be incomplete. lsof: WARNING: can't stat() nfs file system /srv/bind-target/sub1 (deleted) Output information may be incomplete. lsof: WARNING: can't stat() nfs file system /srv/bind-target/ Output information may be incomplete. I've tried with recent stable Linux kernels 3.2.17, 3.2.19 and 3.3.8 (cannot use 3.4.x, cause need the grsecurity patch, which is not, yet, supported - grsecurity is not patched in in the tests above!). My nfs-utils are version 1.2.2 (debian stable). Does anybody have an idea how i can either: force the un-mount some other way? (any dirty trick is welcome, data loss or damage neglible at this point) use something else instead of mount -o bind? (cannot use soft links, cause mounted directories will be used in chroot; bindfs via FUSE is far to slow to be an option) Thanks, Paul Update 1 With 2.6.32.59 the umount of the (stale) sub-mounts work just fine. It seems to be a kernel regression bug. The above tests where with NFSv3. Additional tests with NFSv4 showed no change. Update 2 We have tested now multiple 2.6 and 3.x kernels and are now sure, that this was introduced in 3.0.x. We will fille a bug report, hopefully they figure it out.

• Bluetooth Issues Ubuntu 13.10

  I have a bluetooth headset which works perfectly on Ubuntu 13.04. Now I update to 13.10, and here is what's happing: After installing blueman, bluetooth-suport, pulseaudio-module-bluetooth and so on, I can find my device, pair it and connect to the headset service. But the device does not appear on the Sound Settings, so I just can't select it as input/output device. In other words, it's connected but "useless". So, searching around for solutions, I found a software called stream2ip. With this I can connect the device and it appears on the Sound Settings, the sound plays on the device as well, but I microphone does not work, even when selected on the settings, also the A2DP option still not working. Stream2ip isn't a solution at all, I mean everything was working without it in the previous Ubuntu version. Maybe I'm missing something, and I hope someone could give me any hint. And formally, the question: How can I get the A2DP output option and the input working again, on the Ubuntu 13.10? Thanks!

Anyway, I'm doing a personal project now and I want to create an web API for it. One of my requirements is to check for updates from my app, so I would send a timestamp to the API. I've used many APIs that my clients prepared for me and only now am I appreciating their work ! What is the term or technique used to create an API backed by a database which tracks changes via dates/timestamps, basically an effective way for me to query changes occurring since a timestamp. Simply put, I want that my app can call my API in order to sync new data and changed data from the server, to the app. The app would only have a timestamp of the last time it synced with the server. Would I have a log table for each data table in my database which adds a record for each change? Then I could query all changes with a timestamp superior to the one passed to the API. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this?

• Remove SID with ICACLS

  I am trying to remove an obsolete SID (the account was apparently deleted). I've tried to run the following on the server (win2003) and a client (win7): icacls c:\path /remove *S-1-5-21-1883347182-1220252494-433279356-1095 /T But I always get the output Successfully processed 0 files; Failed processing 0 files without it doing anything. How can I get it to work? Update: I've used AccessEnum to get the SID because icacls only says "No mapping between account names and security IDs was done." but doesn't show the sid. • http proxy caching headers

  I have a service for which I'm about to upgrade the authentication. However, I'm trying to ensure that I make the right decision about where the encryption algorithms occur. I currently have two options: option 1) the authentication module is deployed to the client as a javascript library over https and executes client-side, so that the client can POST back an encrypted string. option 2) the authentication module is kept server-side so that the client need only POST back an unencrypted string. I know that many http proxies cache/log the query-string (and therefore any query parameters), but does anyone know of any http proxies that cache the headers as well? If the headers are being cached, then I'll clearly want to encrypt the password inside the SSL encryption, because to my understanding the headers of an HTTPS request may not always be encrypted (depending on the capabilities of the browser etcetera). Can anyone shed any light on the caching of headers by http proxies? Do you have one that does, or know of one that does?

• ntpstat response fine but server time out of sync

  Hi, I found out that the ntpd service that I've set up a few weeks ago on a Centos5 machine doesn't correctly synchronize the server time. I detected an offset of more than 5 minutes (by stopping ntpd and executing ntpdate). After setting up the service I checked the setup via ntpstat: [xxxx@xxx ~]$ ntpstat -q synchronised to local net at stratum 11 time correct to within 10 ms polling server every 1024 s I repeated this check every day and it always showed this output. Doesn't this output tell me that the server time is sane?

  Az Oracle Database 11g verziójától már OLTP adatbázisok is hatékonyan tömöríthetok az Advanced Compression funkcióval. Nem csak a tárolandó adatok mennyisége csökken ezáltal felére, vagy akár negyedére, de az adatbázis teljesítménye is javulhat, amennyiben I/O korlátos a rendszer (és általában az). Hogy pontosan mekkora tömörítés várható az Advanced Compression bevezetésével, az kiválóan becsülheto a Compression Advisor eszközzel. Ez nem csak az OLTP tömörítés mértékét, de 11gR2 verziótól kezdve a HCC tömörítés arányát is becsülni tudja, amely Exadata Database Machine, Pillar Axiom illetve ZFS Storage alkalmazásával érheto el. A HCC tömörítés becsléséhez csak 11gR2 adatbázisra van szükség, nem kell hozzá a speciális célhardver (Exadata, Pillar, ZFS). A Compression Advisor valójában a DBMS_COMPRESSION package használatával érheto el. • How can I retrieve the details of the file from an outbound operation in BPEL 11g

  Several times, we come across requirements where we need to capture the details of the file that got written out as a part of a BPEL process invoking a File/Ftp Adapter. Consider a case where we're using FileNamingConvention as "PurchaseOrder_%SEQ%.txt" and we need to do some post processing based on the filename (please remember that we wouldn't know the filename until the adapter invocation completes) In order to achieve this, we need to manually tweak the WSDL so that the File/Ftp Adapter can return the metadata of the file that was written out. In general, the File/Ftp Write/Put WSDL operations are one way as shown below:         The File/Ftp Adapters are designed to return the metadata back if this WSDL is tweaked into a two-way WSDL. In addition, the <wsdl:output/> must import the fileread.xsd schema (see below). You will need to copy fileread.xsd from  here into the xsd folder of your composite.       Finally, we will need to tweak the  WSDL. (highlighted below)           Finally, the BPEL <invoke> would look as shown below. • Declarative View Objects (VOs) for better ADF performance

  Just got back from ODTUG's kscope13 conference which had a lot of good deep ADF content. In one of my session I ran out of time to do one of my demos, so I wanted to share it here instead. This is a demo of how Declarative View Objects can increase your application's performance. For those who are not familiar with declarative VOs, those are VOs that don't actually specify a hard coded query. Instead ADF creates their query at runtime, and it does it based on the data that is requested in your UI layer. This can be a huge saver of both DB resources and network resources. More in the documentation. Here is a quick example that shows you how using such a VO can automatically switch to a simpler SQL instead of a complex join when needed. (note while I demo with 11.1.2.* the feature is there in 11.1.1.* versions also). The demo also shows you how you can monitor the SQL that ADF BC issues to the database using the WebLogic logging feature in JDeveloper. As a side note, I would have loved to see more ADF developers attending Kscope. This demo was part of the "ADF intro" track at Kscope, In the advanced ADF track you would have been treated to a full tuning session about ADF with lots of other tips. Consider attending Kscope next year - it is going to be in Seattle this time.

• Dumping a Linux console scrollback buffer?

  We would like to save the output of a program run on a Linux console which spans many lines. Unfortunately it wasn't logged or run under screen, or any other way that lets us easily capture the output. The best method we've been able to come up with so far is: Log into the machine via a separate SSH session In the console session, page to the top of the buffer Repeat: In the SSH session, run "cat /dev/vcs >> screendump.txt" In the console session, page down one screen Dump the final screen in the SSH session Is there a better way? It seems like if the VC memory were contiguous and you knew where it was you could use dd to pull the console text directly out of kernel memory and into a file.
