• html-login form not working

  I have a child page LoginContent.aspx which contains a login form. If the user logs in he should be redirected to my Welcome.aspx page. But if I press the login button the page just reloads itself, nothing happens. The codebehind on this page is empty. Both LoginContent.aspx and Welcome.aspx are child forms of the same master page. <form method="post" action="~/Welcome.aspx"> Username: <input type="text" name="username" size="15" /><br /> Password: <input type="password" name="passwort" size="15" /><br /> <input type="submit" value="Login"/></p> </form> I know I could use the asp.net login control but I want more control over things.

• Javascript is called in IE and FF but not in Chrome, why?

  I have the following code below for a button on an aspx page. When it is clicked it should call a javascript that will print the text in that div. Everything works great in IE & Firefox but when it is tried in chrome it is as if the OnClientClick is not kicking off the javascript. I receive no errors and it works in IE and FF now. Below is the code for the button that calls the javascript. <asp:Button ID="btnEULAPrint" Text="Print" runat="server" ValidationGroup="EULA" OnClientClick="javascript:CallPrint('EULA');return false;"/> Anyone have any ideas or links they could share to point me in a direction? • Use of COM object in IIS 7

  Hi all, I am currently moving an ASP.NET web-project from an IIS 6 to a IIS 7 hosting environment. Everything seems to be running OK, except my calls to a COM object. I can perfectly instantiate an object of the COM type, but when I call one of its methods, the IIS crashes. The event log reports an error code "0xc0000374", which indicates a heap corruption. When I run the application inside the visual studio development server, everything goes well and the COM object code gets executed without any errors. This is also the case when the application is hosted on an IIS 6 machine. I have looked through all settings of the IIS 7 and have not found anything configurable for COM objects, like security or ... I have been struggling with this for a while and I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have any experience deploying COM objects on IIS 7? Your help would be very appreciated!

• Get clientid in user control from external javascript file

  Hello, I am developing a user control (ascx) in ASP.NET which uses javascript for manipulating controls. Currently the javascript code is inlined and uses <%= somecontrol.ClientID %> to get the control it needs. I want to put the javascript file in external file but from external file I cannot use the above syntax for retrieving controls. I have read about possible solutions in this and this answers but the problem is that the user control can be placed multiple times on page. This means that the Controls array (mentioned in the answers) will be rendered several times with different items. As a result the script will not be able to retrieve the id it needs. If I put <%= ClientId %> in the name of array that holds items then I will have the same problem as I am trying to solve. Any ideas?

• SelectedValue of DropDownList is not the one I selected when Enabled=false

  Hiya, I have a few DropDownLists on a webform each pointing to a SqlDataSource. Some of these datasources use one of these DropDownLists for a select parameter, filtering the list to specific categories. For certain users two of these DropDownLists are to be automatically set and disabled. When I submit the form with the drop downs enabled it works fine but when they are disabled the SelectedValue of the DropDownList is being reset to the first one in the list. My DropDownLists are constructed as follows: <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlManager" runat="server" DataSourceID="dsManagers" EnableViewState="false" DataValueField="ManagerID" DataTextField="MgrName" AppendDataBoundItems="false" ondatabound="ddlManager_DataBound" > The drop down lists add an extra item on the data bound event as follows: protected void ddlManager_DataBound(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.ddlManager.Items.Insert(0, new ListItem("--Manager--", "--Manager--")); } Can anyone shed any light as to why this is happening? • Setting up a SQL Membership Provider and attaching the MDF file in Visual Studio 2008

  I'm trying to set up a SQL Membership Provider for an ASP.NET MVC 1.0 and I'm having problems setting up the tables and stored procedures in the database. I've tried attaching both the applications current database and a blank database to my local SQLEXPRESS instance (using SSEUtil) and then running the aspnet_regsql wizard against them. When I detach the mdf file and try to load it in Visual Studio 2008, the data connection in the server explorer shows that the database has no tables or stored procedures. Am I missing a step or something here? I've been having a heap of trouble with compatibility between Visual Studio and SQLEXPRESS.

  i have to give the user the option to upload his own aspx and aspx.cs files on to the server, adjust the hyperlink to point to a page which would do the following display the aspx and aspx.cs files code onto the page without actually rendering the code the browser should not understand anything, and while reading the files to display them the method be such that nothing is processed on the server regarding the code within the files to prevent from unnecessary problems many user would try to cause. i have tried many ways of displaying it but it ends up on displaying the actual comments instead of the code. please suggest with links to examples how to achieve the above. please note main concentration is on asp.net and c# using vs08, so j script and ready-made tools be avoided if feasible thank you all

• CSS button not styling

  Hey, I must be missing something obvious, but can someone explain what I'm doing wrong with my CSS? I would like all buttons to have a certain format, except a few. I was expecting to use CssClass in order to override the few that should be different, but they all seem to use the standard one. My CSS: .btn { border:none; background-color:red; } input[type="submit"] { border: 2px solid black; background-color:green; } All the buttons take the second value (green background, with a border). However, I have this button: <asp:Button ID="btnAdd" CssClass="btn" runat="server" Text="Add" /> I was expecting this to have no border, and a red background, but it's the same as every other button. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

• URL Navigation and SQL Insertion After RadioButtonList Selection

  Good Morning, I have a radiobuttonlist in my ASP.NET webforms application that is used as a voting tool. The concept is as follows: Users will vote for the blurb in the contentplaceholder using the radiobuttonlist. My list item values are 1 through 3 and my list item text is something like low, medium and high. Questions: 1. I want to save and accumulate votes for a given blurb. The blurb ID is referenced in a meta tag on the content page. How do I reference the meta tag in my SQL insert statement? 2. When the radiobuttonlist is used, can it cause the next content page to be loaded after the SQL insert is done? That is, I don't necessarily want the user to make the radiobuttonlist selection, then have to click a separate button to cast vote and move to next page. I want all that done in the radiobuttonlist. • MVC DateTime binding with incorrect date format

  Asp.net-MVC now allows for implicit binding of DateTime objects. I have an action along the lines of public ActionResult DoSomething(DateTime startDate) { ... } This successfully converts a string from an ajax call into a DateTime. However, we use the date format dd/MM/yyyy; MVC is converting to MM/dd/yyyy. For example, submitting a call to the action with a string '09/02/2009' results in a DateTime of '02/09/2009 00:00:00', or September 2nd in our local settings. I don't want to roll my own model binder for the sake of a date format. But it seems needless to have to change the action to accept a string and then use DateTime.Parse if MVC is capable of doing this for me. Is there any way to alter the date format used in the default model binder for DateTime? Shouldn't the default model binder use your localisation settings anyway?

  Hi All, I've got a page in an ASP.Net app (its Mvc actually but not important) and I would like to only allow connections to this page from the local machine. I would love to do something like this in Web.config: <location path="resources"><system.web><authorization><allow ips="local"/></authorization></system.web></location> I know this is possible with a simple check in the page code behind (or controller) and its even possible just with IIS configuration but I would love a Web.config config as this would be the most elegant solution in my opinion. • Recaptcha being triggered from masterpage control

  Hey, I have a master page which contains a Login control so that the user can login/logout from any page. However, a couple of content pages require a Recaptcha control. This causes problems because when I try and log in on a page that has the Recaptcha control, the system expects me to enter the words. I'm aware of the lack of validation groups in the Recaptcha control, and the fact that you can't have multiple forms on an ASP.NET page. Is there a way to work around this? A 'hacky' way I can think of, is in the "Login" event, check the page for a Recaptcha control. If one exists, then disable it, otherwise continue. However, that just seems quite inefficient especially when there are quite a few pages and most won't have a Recaptcha control.

• Looking for Suggestion on Multi-Consumer Service Development

  How would I model a system that needs to be able to provide content in a format that would be consumable by iphone, Android or web browser (or whatever). All a new consumer would have to do is build a UI with rules on how to handle the data. I'm thinking something RESTful returning JSON or something. I'm really looking for suggestions on the kinds of things I'd need to learn in order to be able to implement a system on this scale. As an ASP.NET MVC developer, would that be the best framework/archetectrue to go with? Thanks

• Garbage collection of Strings returned from C# method calls in ascx pages

  Hi, For a web application developed on ASP.NET, we are finding that for user control files (ascx) we are returning long strings as a result of method calls. These are embedded in the ascx pages using the special tags <% %> When performing memory dump analysis for the application, we find that many of those strings are not being garbage collected. Also, the ascx pages are compiled to temporary DLLs and they are held in memory. Is this responsible for causing the long strings to remain in memory and not be garbage collected ? Note : The strings are larger than 85K in size.

  I'm working on a ASP.NET (C#) site that pulls most of its data from Dynamics CRM over SOAP using Microsoft's CrmService SDK. I'm at the point where a query has returned an entity with a property of the type Customer. I need to get the name string of that customer record, but cannot figure out how to do so. By doing a little guess work I figured out that what I have is GUID for the customer. How can I use this GUID to get the customer's name as a string? • allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' error when publishing from VS2010 (but only after a previous

  I can run my Asp.Net MVC 2 application without an issue on my local computer. Just Run / Debug. But if I have already built it, I can't publish it! I have to clean the solution and publish it again. I know this is not system critical, but it's really annoying. "One Click Publish" is not "Clean solution and then One click publish" The exact error is as follows: Error 11 It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. I suspect it's something to do with the Web.Config in the Views folder, but then why only after I build once previously. And just to note, the app works fine once published.

  I need to call a Javascript function from the server side in Client side. I looked and didn't find any way how to do it. I looked also over AJAX but can't figure it out. I am using ASP ( clasic) not .net . I need to call the function in client-side with a variable that comes from the client-side. Please help me!!! Thanks a million !!! I am using a FlashMovies that is sending a value to a Javascript function through ExternalInterface class. • WCF Project vs. A folder in the existing website project?

  What way makes the most sense? I have a ASP.NET app... and maybe a Silverlight app in the future.. I want both to talk to web services.. At first, I like have the WCF project be by it self for the seperation.. But then I thought.. What is the point since I can just as easily have a 'WEBSERVICES' folder that contains all the .svc files and code in the EXISTING website project. ... Atleast that way.. deploying to a remote host will be a little easier since everything is in one project.. any other considerations ?

• Lose changed data in session

  Our asp.net 2.0 application has a very long process (synchronized) before sending response back to client. I observed that a second request, exactly same the initial one, was sent after client IE8 waited response for a long period of time while our application was still processing the first request. I use page session with predefined key to store a flag when the initial request arrives and then starts long process while client IE waits for the response, so if second request comes in, our application checks the session value. After our application sets the session flag and starts processing, I use Fiddler “Abort Session” to abort the initial request, right away the second request (same as the first one) is sent automatically, but session value set earlier seems no longer exist. Any thoughts?

  Hi all, I'm doing an asp.net application with one page. In this page, I have one usercontrol defined. This usercontrol has a menu (three buttons) and 3 usercontrols defined too. Depending on the clicked button one of the three usercontrols turn to visible true or false. In these three usercontrols I have a button and a message, and I want to show the message "It's NOT postback" when the button of the menu is clicked, and when the button of the usercontrol is clicked the message will be "YES, it's postback!!!". The question is that using property "IsPostBack" of the usercontrol or the page the message will never be "It's NOT postback" because of the clicked button of the menu to show the nested usercontrol. This is the structure of the page: page parent usercontrol menu nested usercontrol 1 message button nested usercontrol 2 nested usercontrol 3 I know it can be done using ViewState but, there is a way to simulate IsPostBack property or know when is the true usercontrol postback?   Hi all, I'm stuck on a clients host that has medium trust setup which blocks cross domain requests and need data from a 3rd party domain. I now have the option to use JSONP. I've used JSONP from the client with jQuery to get around the browsers cross domain security and I've used HttpWebRequest in ASP.Net 3.5. Is it possible to use JSON on the server and if so how? I don't think it is, but worth asking seeing as I already have this app written server side.... Thanks, Denis

  I'm hoping someone can help with this, I'm having a real difficult time getting jQueryUI's autocomplete to work with ajax in a asp.net app (not MVC). I can get it to make the ajax call but I'm not doing something right handling the response. Just for starters I'm trying to have autocomplete make an ajax call to 'GetSuggestions.aspx' which will return a hard coded string. I have it where it will make the call to GetSuggestions.aspx but I can't get it to return anything to the page. (My next step would be to have 'GetSuggestions.asxp' return a list of name/value pairs but I'll tackle that next). I'm using the example from here: http://jqueryui.com/demos/autocomplete/#remote with the exception of using 'source: "GetSuggestions.aspx" (instead of "search.php")
