  • Apache, Django with mod_wsgi, and large request buffering

    In my setup of Apache 2.2 MPM worker and Django 1.3 with mod_wsgi 2.8, I need to support large POST request payloads. The problem is that when there are many such simultaneous requests, Apache uses up all the memory in the system and then crashes. It seems that Apache is buffering the requests completely in memory before executing the WSGI handler and passing it the request. Is there any way to control request buffering in Apache?   • Nginx / uWsgi / Django site can handle more traffic with rewrite URL

    Hi there. I'm running a Django app, using uWsgi behind Nginx. I've been doing some performance tuning and load testing using ApacheBench and have discovered something unexpected which I wonder if someone could explain for me. In my Nginx config I have a rewrite directive which catches lots of different URL permutations and then forwards them to the canonical URL I wish to use, eg, it traps www.mysite.com/whatever, www.mysite.co.uk/whatever and forwards them all to http://mysite.com/whatever. If I load test against any of the URLs listed with a redirect (ie, NOT the canonical URL which it is eventually forwarded to), it can serve 15000 concurrent connections without breaking a sweat. If I load test against the canonical URL, which the above test I would have expected got forwarded to anyway, it can't handle nearly as much. It will drop about 4000 of the 15000 requests, and can only handle about 9000 reliably. This is the command line I'm using to test: ab -c15000 -n15000 http://www.mysite.com/somepath/ and ab -c15000 -n15000 http://mysite.com/somepath/ I've tried several different types - it makes no different which order I do them in. This doesn't make sense to me - I can understand why the requests involving a redirect may not handle quite so many concurrent connections, but it's happening the other way round. Can anyone explain? I'd really prefer it if the canonical URL was the one which could handle more traffic. I'll post my Nginx config below.   • Configuration Manager sub site codes

    I have two sub-sites set up in configuration manager. When the SCCM agent installs on the client machines within the boundaries of those sub sites they are assigned the site code of the Primary site, not the sub site code. As a result their management server remains the main server not the sub site server. I am setting up thes sub sites on cross WAN locations to cut down on traffic. What could be preventing the clients from getting associated with the proper sub site code.

    Foreword: I am not asking for the differences between Nginx and Apache, nor do I want to start a "which one is better discussion. I would like to ask for help with choosing the most adequate solution for this particular situation. I need to setup one or more l SVN repositories accessible via HTTP, plus some PHP, Django and Ruby websites. However, and since I only have 512Mb of RAM at my disposal, I fear that Apache will be a too heavy choice... On the other hand, I have heard that Nginx does not fully support SVN (WebDAV) and Django without reverse proxying to Apache. Is this still true? Should I go for Apache/Nginx alone? Or should I set up both and have Nginx handling static content and proxying to Apacge for dynamic content?

    I found 3 numbers for the Total Physical Memory: In the Task Manager under the Performance tab: 1978 MB In Computer Properties: 2 GB And running wmic computersystem get TotalPhysicalMemory /format:list in the command line: 2074554368 Bites Number 1 matches Number 3 except Number 1 is rounded. When I convert Number 3 to GB 2074554368 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 I don't quite get 2 GB. I get 1.93207932 GB. Why does Number 1 and Number 3 not match Number 2?

  • Django freezes when adding objects through the admin

    I have a Django 1.1 website running via Apache/mod_wsgi with a PostgreSQL 8.3.1 database. Recently, when I added objects through the admin interface, the connection froze up and I lost several worker processes, so I had to restart Apache. Upon trying to replicate this, I found that it only happens through the admin: if I go into the Django shell and issue the same insert, it works fine. Also, performing an UPDATE operation works without issues, so just INSERTs. I've rebuilt indexes on PostgreSQL and run a full VACUUM. Error logs don't show anything, and I can't figure out for the life of me what's wrong. Anyone have any ideas?

  • NGinX config for Django and Wordpress in subdirectory

    I need to set up a Django site at the root of a domain, but then have a Wordpress installation in a subdirectly (e.g. /blog/). How would one configure NGinX to do this? "Pretty" URLs have to work for Wordpress as well. For Django I am using Gunicorn, which is already configured. From NGinX I would call "proxy_pass" to direct to that. PHP is run via FPM. Considering the restrictions above, how would I configure NGinX? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

    I have a Logitech webcam, which I can plug into my Windows XP machine via USB. When I open the Device Manager, I can select the webcam and choose Properties--Driver--Driver Details. This gives me the following list of driver filenames: C:\Program Files\Common Files\logishrd\WUApp32.exe [25 more filenames...] C:\WINDOWS\TWAIN_32\QuickCam\reset.wav My question is, is there any way to copy this list to the clipboard? Copying it by hand is a drag.

  • Why is my django bulk database population so slow and frequently failing?

    I decided I'd like to use django's model system rather than coding raw SQL to interface with my database, but I am having a problem that surely is avoidable. My models.py contains: class Student(models.Model): student_id = models.IntegerField(unique = True) form = models.CharField(max_length = 10) preferred = models.CharField(max_length = 70) surname = models.CharField(max_length = 70) and I'm populating it by looping through a list as follows: from models import Student for id, frm, pref, sname in large_list_of_data: s = Student(student_id = id, form = frm, preferred = pref, surname = sname) s.save() I don't really want to be saving this to the database each time but I don't know another way to get django to not forget about it (I'd rather add all the rows and then do a single commit). There are two problems with the code as it stands. It's slow -- about 20 students get updated each second. It doesn't even make it through large_list_of_data, instead throwing a DatabaseError saying "unable to open database file". (Possibly because I'm using sqlite3.) My question is: How can I stop these two things from happening? I'm guessing that the root of both problems is that I've got the s.save() but I don't see a way of easily batching the students up and then saving them in one commit to the database.

  • Tiling window manager where dual heads share common workspace

    I want to use a tiling window manager with my dual monitor setup, but almost all wms seem to treat each monitor as an independent workspace. This means that I can change the workspace of monitor 0 without affecting the workspace of monitor 1. This is not what I want -- I want a workspace to span both monitors, where each monitor is essentially a separate column for tiling (my monitors are oriented vertically, so they are well-suited as tiling columns). When I switch workspaces, say with Mod-[0-9], I want both monitors to change contents. So far the only wm I have found to support this is wmii, but I'd love to try some other options. Have I missed this capability from other tiling wms?

    For some time I have been using the i3 tiling window manager in Ubuntu. However at my new company we use RHEL5. I would dearly love to port over all my configs but Im having some trouble... An initial (naive) approach seems that a simple yum install i3 yields no results for i3. I then used some additional rpm repos by following instructions to add the EPEL RPM Repositories but it seems i3 is only bundled for RHEL = 6. Damn. I'm fairly sure that this must be possible but I'm pretty new to the Redhat scene and am not sure how to approach this problem. Any pointers would be gratefully received!

    I've been using Download Master on Windows for years and what I liked most about it is that this program can automatically put downloaded files into directories by download date: /Downloads | |--/2012_06_28 | | | |--a.zip | |--b.pdf | ... | |--/2012_06_29 | | | |--c.txt | ... ... I'm looking for something similar for Linux. Is there any free download manager that can do this? I have tried KGet and uGet but they both seem to lack this feature. If there is a way to configure them to do that, I'll be happy to know about it. Thank you.

  • Removing (Presumably) Extraneous Network Adapters from Device Manager (eg WAN Miniport)

    Can anyone shed some light on the default items in the Network Adapters branch of the Windows Device Manager? In addition to the network card, there are always a bunch of other things that I cannot find any useful information on such as RAS Asynch Adapter and all the WAN Miniports (IKEv2, IP(v6), L2TP, Network Monitor, PPPOE, PPTP, SSTP). I would like to trim it down and uninstall whatever possible but cannot find out exactly what these items are responsible for (and therefore whether or not they are needed on my system). Most of the pages found with Google are either people trying to fix an error with such an item or someone asking what it is and being given an unhelpful, pat response like “just leave them alone” or “they’re necessary”. I highly doubt that is the case and I’m certain that at least some items can be removed because even if they become necessary in the future they can be added again (for example installing Network Monitor or Protowall reinstalls the miniport drivers anyway).

    I want to ask why there is only me on Task Manager's Users tab. Originally I wanted to be able to chat with other clients on my local network using msg command, but I can't found any other user. How to see other users on the same network? I use Work Network, and all of the users is using wifi to connect. I googled about it, but no information is close enough.     I'm looking for an application that can manage (save/open) multiple Internet Explorer instances (to be precise nomerge sessions), host them in single window and arrange these instances e.g. in tabs, so in result you have double tab bar. In functionality it's similar to Remote Desktop Manager, where you can create Web session, but in embedded mode you cannot set the nomerge option. I've been searching the web, but with no results. So I put this question whether anyone know of such application or workaround. Or I have to write my own app.
