    We are using a raid controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic MegaRAID SAS 2008 But there is no BBU on Board, is there a way to force the WB Cache ??   • How to restore files from an external drive done with Norton Ghost

    Our office XP computer crashed this afternoon. I know that we had Norton Ghost doing regular backups on an external hard drive. My question is how do you restore from that backup? PS. When I plug in the external drive into my own Windows 7 machine it has two folders: - 9c590f17be2ef53d13bb00be2a - Norton Backups I can't open the first one (it says I don't have permissions) but the second one contains a bunch of files with the .v2i extension. Any help would be appreciated?

  • eSATA hard drive falls asleep, takes ages to wake up.

    I'm using an external hard drive, a Western Digital MyBook 1TB of some sort with eSATA on an eSATA II ExpressCard adapter from Belkin on Windows Vista 32-bit. The issue I'm having is that after a while power management kicks in and puts the hard drive to sleep. When I resume my work and browse the drive, for example, the Explorer hangs and while I can still use my other apps, it takes a couple minutes for it to realize it should wake up the drive and recommence work. What's going on?

  • EloTouch touchscreen suspends correctly but does not come out of standby on Ubuntu 10.04

    I am using an EloTouch touchscreen on a minimal Ubuntu 10.04 installation. I have a bare Xserver running without any desktop environment, just an xterm. The touchscreen is working great, but there is still one small problem. As soon as the touchscreen goes to standby, it is not coming out of standby when touching the screen. Using a keyboard or mouse does get it out of standby though. I am looking for any hints or directions to a cause of this problem. Is this an x.org configuration problem? A driver problem? Is this a known problem with touchscreens in general? Any pointers are welcome. The driver I am using is an unreleased EloTouch driver (3.5.0). I received it through a reseller who can not give me any technical information unfortunately.

I've just installed apache and php from sources using next commands: ./configure --prefix="/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17" \ --enable-info --enable-rewrite --enable-usertrack --enable-mime-magic for apache and ./configure --with-apxs2=/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/bin/apxs \ --prefix=/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/php \ --with-config-file-path=/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/php \ --with-mysql=mysqlnd for php. After adjusting configuration (httpd.conf) and starting apache it gives a 403 response on http://localhost:8060/index.html (presuming that 8060 is used) request. There are next directory settings in httpd.conf: <Directory "/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/htdocs"> ... Order allow,deny Allow from all ... </Directory> <IfModule dir_module> DirectoryIndex index.html index.php </IfModule> It should be noted that I've got apache on a mounted (default auto mount configured while installing ubuntu) partition.   • Slight delay when switching modes in vim using tmux or screen

    Switching to and from insert mode in Vim is no longer instantaneous since I use tmux. After pressing Esc in insert mode, it takes a noticeable amount of time to actually get out of insert mode. After pressing Esc and any other key afterwards the switch is immediate, and the command for the key pressed after Esc is executed. Any idea what might cause this? The Vim configuration is not the problem as the delay does not occur when I run Vim outside tmux, so this is probably related to tmux somehow. I use gnome-terminal btw. Also worth noting, it seems I can not define key bindings in tmux for Esc, my plan was to bind Esc to: bind Escape send-keys ^[ Alas, it seems binding anything to Esc for tmux does not work. The same problem occurs in screen as well.

  • Can I use wildcards is puppet package ensure to cover multiple releaseversion

    Using puppet I want to update packages on my (CentOS 5 & 6 servers) in a controlled way. Therefore I don't want to use ensure=>latest but rather ensure=>3.0.1-1. Example: class puppet::installation inherits puppet { package { "puppet": ensure => "3.0.1-1", } } The update works alright but puppet agent keeps complaining that there is a difference: /Stage[main]/Puppet::Installation/Package[puppet]/ensure: current_value 3.0.1-1.el6, should be 3.0.1-1 (noop) I can solve this by changing the ensure rule to 3.0.1-1.el6 but than that won't work on CentOS 5. Is there a short/clean way to solve this or do I have to write to seperate, os-releaseversion dependant rules. I have been googling for a solution but didn't find anything pertaining to this particular question. Any suggestion or reference to a relevant example would be appreciated.

    In Firefox forward slash is mapped to quick find. Is it possible to let forward slash behave the same in Google Chrome as in Firefox? To find a link and follow it in a page in Google Chrome I now have to type: Ctrl + F, <search query>, ESC, Enter In Firefox this is: /, <search query>, Enter Not being able to use forward slash to find in page has been a real show-stopper for me as I use it all the time in Firefox to browse documentation.

  • Can I tell which installation DVD was used for my Windows XP?

    I have two Windows XP installation DVDs (that came from the OEM with my two laptops). I need to reinstall Windows on one of them but I'm not sure which one is which. Is there any way to tell which DVD was used for each laptop? PS. They both came from the same OEM and there're no distinguishing markings on the DVDs themselves. PS2. The reason for my concern is to avoid installation twice, which may invalidate license for already installed Windows XP on one laptop if I duplicate it to another.

  • Reasons for Wi-Fi to be slower on Ubuntu compared to Windows?

    I'm using 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 64 bit – dual boot on the same computer. Connecting to the same wireless network. And it turns out that on Windows I get a more stable and stronger signal than on Ubuntu. To my knowledge there's a router which serves as a gateway and then there's a cable connected to the router which goes further to ISP, so the results for both OS should be the same. I've tested the issue on both OSs at various times and it gave me the same result. The question is why? Why Ubuntu networking is worse than that of Windows?

    Vor einiger Zeit hatte ich ein Papier mit Empfehlungen fuer den sicheren Einsatz von LDoms veroeffentlicht.  In der Zwischenzeit hat sich so manche veraendert - eine Aktualisierung des Papiers wurde noetig.  Neben einigen kleineren Rechtschreibkorrekturen waren auch ettliche Links veraltet oder geandert.  Der Hauptgrund fuer eine Ueberarbeitung war jedoch das Aufkommen eines zweiten Betriebsmodels fuer LDoms.  Ein einigen wenigen kurzen Worten:  Insbesondere mit dem Erfolg der T4-4 kam es immer oefter vor, dass die Moeglichkeiten zur Hardware-Partitionierung, die diese Platform bietet, genutzt wurden.  Aehnlich wie bei den Dynamic System Domains werden dabei ganze PCIe Root-Komplexe an eine Domain vergeben.  Diese geaenderte Verwendung machte eine Behandlung in diesem Papier notwendig.  Die aktualisierte Version gibt es hier: Secure Deployment of Oracle VM Server for SPARCSecond Edition Ich hoffe, sie ist hilfreich!

  • AIA Artefakte im Oracle Enterprise Repository

    Das Oracle Enterprise Repository (OER) ist die zentrale Stelle zur Verwaltung von SOA Artefakten aller Art, mit dem Ziel, den gesamten Lebenszyklus dieser Artefakte zu begleiten. Es ist wesentliche Grundlage für deren Wiederverwendung, für die Ermittlung von Abhängigkeiten, wie auch für die Bestimmung des Wertes dieser Artefakte, was wiederum für den Nutzen der SOA Implementierung von Bedeutung ist. In AIA 11g wird die aktuelle Version des OER unterstützt und wird zusätzlich ergänzt durch die Project Lifecycle Workbench, in der die funktionale Spezifikation, die Aufteilung der Prozesse, oder beispielsweise die Generierung des Deployment Plans erfolgt.Für die Bereitstellung der Artefakte des Foundation Pack 11g gibt es inzwischen ein zugehöriges AIA Solution Pack für OER, mit dem die entsprechenden Strukturen, sowie die Bestandteile des Foundation Packs 11g, also EBOs, EBMs, EBSs, usw. unabhängig von einer AIA Installation direkt importiert werden können.     Vor einem Jahr haben wir auf diesem Blog über Oracle an berufsbildenden Schulen berichtet: Ende 2008 wurde unter der Initiative von Knut Harms (OStR an der BBS Haarentor der Stadt Oldenburg) das Projekt oracle@school ins Leben gerufen. Ihm Rahmen dieses Projektes bieten wir interessierten Berufsschulen eine kostenlose Mitgliedschaft im Hochschulprogramm Oracle Academy. Neu hinzugekommen bei oracle@school ist jetzt der Bereich erp@school. Es beinhaltet ein E-Learning System sowie Unterrichtsmaterial für den Unterricht zum Thema ERP-Systeme. Schülerinnen und Schüler erfahren hier in einer "virtuellen ERP-Exkursion" wie ein ERP System arbeitet und simulieren den Prozess der auftragsbezogenen Fertigung am Beispiel. Für die Simulationsumgebung wurde der Geschäftsprozess "Auftragsbezogene Fertigung" in der Oracle E-Business Suite mit der Oracle User Productivity Kit (UPK) aufgezeichnet.

    Oops, I did it again... Auch wenn ich seit langer Zeit Projektarbeit im Hardwaregeschäft mache, bin ich doch leidenschaftlicher Softwareentwickler. Meine ersten Programme habe ich 1981 in ein Matheheft geschrieben, noch bevor ich Zugang zu einem Rechner hatte. Später habe ich einige Programme sogar als Shareware für Geld verkauft: Wer kennt noch ARV, das revolutionäre Dateienverwaltungsprogramm, das Dateien automatisch nach Themen soriert auf Disketten organisiert, oder T-Kal, den einfachen und benutzerfreundlichen Terminkalender? Alle waren wirtschaftlich weniger erfolgreich, was wenig wundert. Letztendlich waren es Programme, die ich für mich geschrieben hatte, und nur aus Interesse an den betrieblichen und steuerlichen Prozessen, die mit dem Vertrieb verbunden sind, zum Verkauf angeboten habe.  Nun habe ich es wieder getan. Damit die mittlerweile fünfte Ausgabe dieser Community-Konferenz wieder ein solcher Erfolg wie in den Vorjahren wird, suchen wir (Stefan Lange, Melanie Eibl, Albert Weinert und ich) Sprecher mit interessanten Vorträgen zu Technologien aus dem Microsoft-Umfeld. Dabei wünschen wir uns sowohl Einführungsvorträge in neue Themen als auch die eine oder andere “Level 400 Hardcore-Session” für Spezialisten.
