    Hi all, I am wondering if anyone can point me to someplace where I can buy an inverter and/or backlight bulb for a Gateway FPD2275w LCD monitor. I've been googling, and looking on eBay, but can't seem to find them. I need to repair a monitor... I've done so before with a laptop LCD, so yes, I do know what I'm in for.   • Dell Poweredge 2650 RAM Upgrade

    Hi, I bought an old Dell Poweredge 2650 off ebay to use as a dev server, but I need to get more RAM for it. From what I understand there were 2 versions of the 2650 released, with the older version only supporting PC1600 RAM (200MHz) and the 2nd version supporting PC2400. Unfortunately Dell thought it wasn't necessary to label their servers as such so I can't tell what version I have. Does anyone know if there is a way to tell without buying and testing RAM in the server?

    I bought an used CPU (Intel "Core 2" E4700) on eBay. And it came dirty inside with something that seems it´s thermal paste. Before I send it back, I wonder if it could it still work without cleaning this dirt. The seller supposedly "tested" it to be fully working. Final, is there a way to clean this dirt without damaging the CPU? Or, is it too risky (or too much work) to do so? This is the CPU:

    If I have a power supply (not a computer power supply, just a battery-replacing wall wart) and it doesn't have the usual polarity marking, how to I know if the tip is positive or negative? Update: I couldn't find my multimeter. I did find a model number on the power supply and typed it into Google. Some guy selling a bunch of power supplies on eBay had checked it and found that it was tip positive, which is what I needed!

    Hello, I'd like to set up my Dd-WRT firewall so that it uses the VPN service from a VPN provider to access a bunch of destinations and normal route foe all other requests. In detail: giganews.com would be accessed thru VPN VyprVPN normal web sites such as amazon, ebay, et al thru transparent firewall.   • Why would my 15" MacBook Pro suddenly ask me to Hard Quit while I was in a browser?

    I was in Firefox looking at a search I had performed in eBay and all of a sudden, the screen grayed out starting from the top down. In the middle of the screen was a box with about 5 different languages saying I had to hard quit my computer. I tried other keys on my computer and nothing was working so I hard quit and restarted. I've noticed that there are many sites allowing you to purchase base-line T&Cs to be used on websites, I'm tempted to give these a go but I've heard nothing on whether they are any good or not, I know in this position it's best to seek legal advice, but the budget is tight so we really can't afford that.   • Wireless/Bluetooth problems on t43p

    I have been struggling to get my wireless mini pcmcia card recognised by 12.04. It suddenly stopped, mid session. I have taken it out and replaced with a couple of spares with slightly different serial numbers. One had no joy - 'unauathorised'. The other worked briefly for thunderbird but not firefox, it seemed. The network controller reads like this: 0b:02.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05) I have ordered a replacement from ebay, and hope I got the right one - used the the FRU number from the one that stopped working. But I have ALWAYS had no joy with my Thinkpad t43p Bluetooth and Ubuntu ( 12.04, and even 11.04 and 11.10, if I remember rightly). Do you think the Bluetooth problem will solve with a new mini pcmcia? Surely not, as it has never worked, whereas Wireless worked until a couple of weeks ago...

    On my site, say example.com, if I try to access test.example.com, Firefox automatically adds www. to test.example.com, making it www.test.example.com, which causes an error. However, if I visit a site like my.ebay.com, no www. is added so no error occurs. What's going on? Just in case, my .htaccess file is as follows: Options -Multiviews RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php I looked through Firebug and it seems like Firefox doesn't even make an attempt to reach test.example.com before reverting to www.test.example.com. One nuance I didn't realize until now. If I try to access the site using test.example.com/, the www. is added. If however that trailing slash is not there, then I am sent to the subdomain properly.

  • programs becoming unresponsive

    I have changed from Mint 13 to Ubuntu, complete fresh install. However I regularly get programs becoming unresponsive seems to be more after when switching between screens or work places. eg before i was using firefox have 2 pop up screens(no junk ones) bank login and an ebay chat, switching between them and then firefox faded to grey and I had to force close as it become unresponsive. Ubuntu is very nice to use, but I never had these problems using mint 13. Is this common, are there any fixes coming??

  • What videoconferencing platforms work best for distributed software development teams?

    Today I had a religious experience: I participated in a videoconference using a high quality Polycom system. This made a huge difference in communication quality -- people that I had a terrible time understanding previously now sounded like Shakespeare. Seeing a high quality video image was enormously helpful. I asked operations how much the Polycom cost and they said that it cost $20K new and $4K off eBay. So this solution doesn't work for people who work from home or who work in offices but are in groups of 3 or fewer people. My budget for a videoconferencing system is a few hundred dollars per person. Skype is not nearly good enough. And I haven't seen a consumer webcam that is good enough either. Does such a solution exist? I'm looking to collaborate both with people who are close by (in the same city but not in the same room) and far away (on different continents).

  • Iphone SDK dismissing Modal ViewControllers on ipad by clicking outside of it

    Hello, I want to dismiss a FormSheetPresentation modal view controller when the user taps outside the modal view...I have seen a bunch of apps doing this (ebay on ipad for example) but i cant figure out how since the underneath views are disabled from touches when modal views are displayed like this (are they presenting it as a popover perhaps?)...anyone have any suggestions?
