• DependencyProperty Orientation problem

  I am learning WPF and am trying to create my first UserControl. My UserControl consists of StackPanel StackPanel contains a Label and TextBox I am trying to create two Dependency Properties Text for the Label Orientation for the StackPanel - The orientation will affect the position of the Label and TextBox effectively I have successfully created a Text dependency property and bind it to my UserControls . • Java Swing architecture for flipping through JPane based views

  Hi all, I have done a couple of simple swing based apps with static layout, but now I've run into a problem while trying to create an app containing multiple views which are changed by pressing appropriate navigational button. You could compare the idea to a website so that every view has buttons to access certain other views but this would work inside a single JFrame. I've found that maybe CardLayout (Cardlayout example) might be appropriate solution for this kind of structure, but I'm unable to figure out a way to switch the views from the buttons which are inside of the JPanes that I've implemented in their separate classes, Of course one way would be to instantiate everything in the parent class like in the small java tutorial example, but this isn't quite clean nor modular for multiple views, isn't it. How can this be implemented so that I can access the view switching method?

• Problems using jQuery $.ajax to pass data

If instead I set elementValue = 2; it works fine. If I try to hardcode in a string value for testing purposes e.g. elementValue = "nameToLookUp"; It fails. Why is this happening, and how do I resolve it? On a side not, why is type: required to be POST instead of a GET? In the end I just want to pass a string value I want to look up in a DB and retrieving some json data.

  I need to build a class that will represent a row in some table in DB (lets say the table is 'Subscriber' and so is the class). I can have the class Subscriber which constructor receives the Objectkey of subscriber, retrieves info from DB and initializes its members. I add another class - SubscriberLoader which have a static method 'LoadSubscriber'. This method will receive the subscriber objectkey, retrieve info from DB, crate a Subscriber object and initialize its members. Subscriber constructor will be private and SubscirberLoader will be friend class of Subscriber - this way, client could build a Subscriber only using the loader. which of the two in better? any other suggestions?

  I narrowed the causes of an AS3 compiler error 1119 down to code that looks similar to this: var test_inst:Number = 2.953; trace(test_inst); trace(test_inst.constructor); I get the error "1119: Access of possibly undefined property constructor through a reference with static type Number." Now if I omit the variable's type, I don't get that error: var test_inst = 2.953; trace(test_inst); trace(test_inst.constructor); it produces the expected output: 2.953 [class Number] So what's the deal? I like explicitly typing variables, so is there any way to solve this error other than not providing the variable's type?

• Can't call method in model table class using Doctrine with Zend Framework

  I'm using Doctrine with Zend Framework. For my model, I'm using a base class, the regular class (which extends the base class), and a table class. In my table class, I've created a method which does a query for records with a specific value for one of the fields in my model. When I try and call this method from my controller, I get an error message saying, "Message: Unknown method Doctrine_Table::getCreditPurchases". Is there something else I need to do to call functions in my table class?   I have created a custom UITableViewCell, but when I dequeue the cell, sometimes it throws an NSInvalidArgumentException: [UITableViewCell nameLabel]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3b4e7f0 Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[UITableViewCell nameLabel]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3b4e7f0' Now, my custom UITableViewCell does have an attribute nameLabel, so I am confused why it is throwing this error.   I'm pretty new to C++ and was looking for a good way to pull the data out of this line. A sample line that I might need to tokenise is f 11/65/11 16/70/16 17/69/17 I have a tokenisation method that splits strings into a vector as delimited by a string which may be useful static void Tokenise(const string& str, vector<string>& tokens, const string& delimiters = " ") The only way I can think of doing it is to tokenise with " " as a delimiter, remove the first item from the resulting vector, then tokenise each part by itself. Is there a good way to do this all in one?

• Stored Procedure or calculations via IQueryable?

  This is a question that is based on choosing performance over design practices. This would mean the application sends 1-2KB of sql to the server per call. I've heard of placing all application logic, in your application. I also would like to change to a database such as azure or one of those scalable databases in the future. How do I handle something like this? Should I leave it as it is now or write stored procedures? How do applications like twitter or facebook do it?

• Should I move client to Lamp or develop on Wamp?

  I have never developed for WAMP, the hosting guy for my new client says they are using Windows servers, they can setup PHP and MySQL for me, but they cannot switch to a *nix server. He said there are some nuances from PHP on *nix Vs. win. So my question is, if I have never programmed PHP on win, should I go through the hassle of switching hosts (since they cannot do *nix themselves), or are the differences slight enough that it shouldn't be too big a problem for me? (side note: the state of the clients website has no effect since it is a static all-flash site and is going to be completely rebuilt) Thanks!

  I've got a website that is currently all in english. It is an online game, so it has a bunch of different pages with static text, as well as a lot of content in a database. I am trying to expand more globally and am gearing up to release some localizations of the site. However, I'm not sure about the best way to go about setting this up so that it'll be the easiest for me to manage and the easiest for users to use as well. Should I be storing the translated texts in a database, or should this be done in a completely different way? If it matters at all, the site is written in PHP and uses MySQL.

  In parent class I have function, that operates under an array of functions, declared in child-class, number of functions for every child-class may vary. But since every function uses some object-variables, I can't declare them as static. • Custom constructors for models in Google App Engine (python)

  I'm getting back to programming for Google App Engine and I've found, in old, unused code, instances in which I wrote constructors for models. It seems like a good idea, but there's no mention of it online and I can't test to see if it works. Here's a contrived example, with no error-checking, etc.: class Dog(db.Model): name = db.StringProperty(required=True) breeds = db.StringListProperty() age = db.IntegerProperty(default=0) def __init__(self, name, breed_list, **kwargs): db.Model.__init__(**kwargs) self.name = name self.breeds = breed_list.split() rufus = Dog('Rufus', 'spaniel terrier labrador') rufus.put() The **kwargs are passed on to the Model constructor in case the model is constructed with a specified parent or key_name, or in case other properties (like age) are specified. This constructor differs from the default in that it requires that a name and breed_list be specified (although it can't ensure that they're strings), and it parses breed_list in a way that the default constructor could not. Is this a legitimate form of instantiation, or should I just use functions or static/class methods? And if it works, why aren't custom constructors used more often?

This spreadsheet is generally static when it comes to column headers, but now the users want to be able to include an optional column (called Notes). My code crashes when I try to read the column from the spreadsheet if it doesn't exist. • Ways to optimize Android App code based on function call stack?

  I've been told that Android OS stores all function calls in a stack. This can lead to many problems and cause the 'hiccups' during runtime, even if a program is functionalized properly, correct? So the question is, how can we prevent this from happening? The obvious solution is to functionalize less, along with other sensible acts such as refraining from excessively/needlessly creating objects, performing static calls to functions that don't access fields, etc... Is there another way though? Or can this only be done through careful code writing on the programmers' part? Does the JVM/JIT automatically optimize the bytecode during compile time to account for this?? Thanks a lot for your responses!!
