  • Problem with setting text into a uneditable JTextField

    I have a tabbed pane with a couple of uneditable JTextFields which I want to fill in with information from a database. However, when I set the text in the text fields to anything, it doesn't show up when I run the program. When I get the text and print it out, it does show. What could be the problem here?

  • Cross-browser method for hiding page elements until all content is loaded to prevent layout from appearing broken during load?

    I have an issue where due to some elements loading faster than others, the page looks broken for a few seconds at the start. An example is the CSS Pie behavior that allows me to do curved corners in IE, it appears before it becomes curved which looks bad. What would be ideal would be it somehow knowing when everything is loaded and then appear all at once, possibly including some kind of elegant visual way of not making the user feel impatient... any ideas or common tricks for doing this?

    Is there a way to access ruby variables in sass or do i have to make a custom function for it? What im trying to do is to generate a stylesheet for each user so in the controller, i do something like: def show respond_to do |format| format.css{render :partial => "styles"} end end then in the view name _styles.haml i do this: :sass #header :background url(user.banner.url) is this possible at all?

  • AppleScript Editor, write message to the "Result" window

    I am using the Mac OS X Apple Script Editor and (while debugging) instead of writing a lot of display dialog statements, I'd like to write the results of some calculation in the window below, called "Result" (I have the German UI here, so the translation is a guess). So is there a write/print statement that I can use for putting messages in the "standard out" window? I am not asking to put the messages in a logfile on the file system, it is purely temporary.

I've also attempted to iterate through all children elements and make them siblings of the font tag before unlinking the font tag--which also results in lost HTML. I`we read that Silverlight 4.0 offers new Clipboard API, but there is only support for Unicode-text, not images.     There's a few mentions of Javascript newbies getting starting by checking out some of Douglas Crockford's work (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11246/best-resources-to-learn-javascript), but none of his resources seem to be for those looking to learn from the ground up. Are there any suggestions for complete beginners regarding how best to learn JavaScript? Personally I have plenty of HTML and CSS experience, and some PHP (which would help learning JS), but for those that don't know any programming language what would you recommend?
