• racoon-tool doesn't generate full racoon.conf file in /var/lib/racoon/racoon.conf

  I am using ipsec-tools/racoon to create my VPN. I am using racoon-tool to configure racoon.conf but when I run racoon-tool reload it only generates the first section - Global items. When I run racoon-tool I get: # racoon-tool reload Loading SAD and SPD... SAD and SPD loaded. Configuring racoon...done. This is the entire file /var/lib/racoon/racoon.conf # # Racoon configuration for Samuel # Generated on Wed Jan 5 21:31:49 2011 by racoon-tool # # # Global items # path pre_shared_key "/etc/racoon/psk.txt"; path certificate "/etc/racoon/certs"; log debug; I cannot find anywhere a solution as to why this is happening. • How to detect hard disk failure?

  So, one of my servers has a hard disk failure. It's running software RAID, the system locked up and according to /proc/mdstat (and /var/log/messages), it's really down: Personalities : [raid1] md2 : active raid1 sdb2[1] 104320 blocks [2/1] [_U] md5 : active raid1 sdb5[1] 2104448 blocks [2/1] [_U] md6 : active raid1 sdb6[1] 830134656 blocks [2/1] [_U] md1 : active raid1 sdb1[1] 143363968 blocks [2/1] [_U] and Nov 5 22:04:37 m38501 smartd[4467]: Device: /dev/sda, not capable of SMART self-check However when I do smartctl -H /dev/sda, it passes the test. It also passes the test with smartctl --test=short /dev/sda. So, is smartctl a broken testing tool, or am I doing something completely off?

• Apache 2.2.16: client denied by server configuration

  I have problem with my server configuration. I use Apache 2.216, PHP 5.3.3 and wordpress 3.4.2 with Shopperpress. Time to time I receive error "client denied by server configuration: path/to/file" in apache log file. It is path to _tbs.php file, but it is not problem in rights of file, because this file is called 12 times on page for getting thumbs of photos and there is error only several times. I think that it has no connection to concrete photo, because once this photo is displayed corectly and next time same photo produce error. Do you have any idea what can be reason? • USB resets with Ubuntu 9.10

  Since the upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 I have issues with getting USB device resets on my Maxtor OneTouch USB harddrive: Nov 9 20:54:37 localhost kernel: [32459.100021] usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 Nov 9 21:54:37 localhost kernel: [36059.100017] usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 Nov 9 23:24:37 localhost kernel: [41459.112025] usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 The device itself continues to work fine, the resets however wake the device out of its sleep state and thus cause it to spin up, which is very annoying. Interestingly, as the log shows, the resets happen at pretty regular intervals (i.e. one hour or half an hour), not randomly. An USB card reader seems to have the same issues, while another USB harddrive from a different manufactor works fine on the same PC. What could be causing this and how could I fix it?

• What is the correct term for - server/client database sync via API?

  Forgive the vague question title. I've been programming mobile apps for 3 years now, and I've got a little too far from the web services and server side code then I probably should have. Anyway, I'm doing a personal project now and I want to create an web API for it. One of my requirements is to check for updates from my app, so I would send a timestamp to the API. I've used many APIs that my clients prepared for me and only now am I appreciating their work ! What is the term or technique used to create an API backed by a database which tracks changes via dates/timestamps, basically an effective way for me to query changes occurring since a timestamp. Simply put, I want that my app can call my API in order to sync new data and changed data from the server, to the app. The app would only have a timestamp of the last time it synced with the server. Would I have a log table for each data table in my database which adds a record for each change? Then I could query all changes with a timestamp superior to the one passed to the API. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this?

• Deploying war files in tomcat6

  I am using tomcat5.5 for a long on ubuntu servers 8.10 and 9.10 and '/usr/share/tomcat/webapps/' is the path where I place my .war files and access them on the browser over network. On a sytem I've installed tomcat6 and I'm failing to find that where do I place my .war file of tomcat6's webapps. I checked deploying war under /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/ and the war file is extracted and I think this should be the location but I could not access the page when I tried http://serverip:8080/myapp. I could access the default page properly when I navigate to http://serverip:8080. The same war file is working fine on tomcat servers which were not installed from apt repository. • Monitor SQL Server Replication Jobs

  The Replication infrastructure in SQL Server is implemented using SQL Server Agent to execute the various components involved in the form of a job (e.g. LogReader agent job, Distribution agent job, Merge agent job) SQL Server jobs execute a binary executable file which is basically C++ code. You can download all the scripts for this article here SQL Server Job Schedules By default each of job has only one schedule that is set to Start automatically when SQL Server Agent starts. This schedule ensures that when ever the SQL Server Agent service is started all the replication components are also put into action. This is OK and makes sense but there is one problem with this default configuration that needs improvement  -  if for any reason one of the components fails it remains down in a stopped state.   Unless you monitor the status of each component you will typically get to know about such a failure from a customer complaint as a result of missing data or data that is not up to date at the subscriber level. Furthermore, having any of these components in a stopped state can lead to more severe problems if not corrected within a short time. The action required to improve on this default settings is in fact very simple. Adding a second schedule that is set as a Daily Reoccurring schedule which runs every 1 minute does the trick. SQL Server Agent’s scheduler module knows how to handle overlapping schedules so if the job is already being executed by another schedule it will not get executed again at the same time. So, in the event of a failure the failed job remains down for at most 60 seconds. Many DBAs are not aware of this capability and so search for more complex solutions such as having an additional dedicated job running an external code in VBS or another scripting language that detects replication jobs in a stopped state and starts them but there is no need to seek such external solutions when what is needed can be accomplished by T-SQL code. SQL Server Jobs Status In addition to the 1 minute schedule we also want to ensure that key components in the replication are enabled so I can search for those components by their Category, and set their status to enabled in case they are disabled, by executing the stored procedure MonitorEnableReplicationAgents. The jobs that I typically have handled are listed below but you may want to extend this, so below is the query to return all jobs along with their category. SELECT category_id, name FROM msdb.dbo.syscategories ORDER BY category_id; Distribution Cleanup LogReader Agent Distribution Agent Snapshot Agent Jobs By default when a publication is created, a snapshot agent job also gets created with a daily schedule. I see more organizations where the snapshot agent job does not need to be executed automatically by the SQL Server Agent  scheduler than organizations who   need a new snapshot generated automatically. To assure this setting is in place I created the stored procedure MonitorSnapshotAgentsSchedules which disables snapshot agent jobs and also deletes the job schedule. It is worth mentioning that when the publication property immediate_sync is turned off then the snapshot files are not created when the Snapshot agent is executed by the job. You control this property when the publication is created with a parameter called @immediate_sync passed to sp_addpublication and for an existing publication you can use sp_changepublication. Implementation The scripts assume the existence of a database named PerfDB. Steps: Run the scripts to create the stored procedures in the PerfDB database. Create a job that executes the stored procedures every hour. -- Verify that the 1_Minute schedule exists.   I need to install minix3 in vmware. I m using ubuntu 10.04. i downlaoded vmware and now i am trying to install it using:-- sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-`uname -r` chmod +x VMware-Player*.bundle gksudo bash ./VMware-Player*.bundle VM Player Installer window popped up Clicked on the ‘Install’ button The progress bar started going; above the bar, it says that the installer is ‘Configuring’ This is was more than 15 minutes ago and still going. Nothing else is running on the system (consuming CPU, mem, …) Is the ‘Configuring’ step supposed to take this long? Seems to me it might be hung. Question: Did i do something wrong? Is there a log some place that can help me to debug this?

• How to make Logitech Anywhere MX work in Ubuntu 12.X?

  I have a Logitech Anywhere MX mouse (wireless), when I connect it to the computer it doesn't work. The mouse works in other computers with Windows and with Fedora 17, but it doesn't work in two different computers with Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. Moreover these same computers work with another Microsoft wireless mouse. So I think the combination of Logitech MX and Ubuntu doesn't play well. • http proxy caching headers

  I have a service for which I'm about to upgrade the authentication. However, I'm trying to ensure that I make the right decision about where the encryption algorithms occur. I currently have two options: option 1) the authentication module is deployed to the client as a javascript library over https and executes client-side, so that the client can POST back an encrypted string. option 2) the authentication module is kept server-side so that the client need only POST back an unencrypted string. I know that many http proxies cache/log the query-string (and therefore any query parameters), but does anyone know of any http proxies that cache the headers as well? If the headers are being cached, then I'll clearly want to encrypt the password inside the SSL encryption, because to my understanding the headers of an HTTPS request may not always be encrypted (depending on the capabilities of the browser etcetera). Can anyone shed any light on the caching of headers by http proxies? Do you have one that does, or know of one that does?

• SMF restarting service whenever there's output?

  I'm trying to add a custom service to SMF's configuration, which seems successful in that the service starts and there is a log file, but therein lies the problem; the service, on start-up, prints some logging messages to the stderr. It seems that SMF is seeing those messages and, believing them to be errors, restarts the service, giving up after a number of tries and leaving the service off. What would be the best way to manage this service with SMF? The logging is needed for diagnosing problems, and would be problematic to disable. Is it possible to configure this service to only restart if the service exists?

• How do I make exchange forward email to a non-exchange mail server (postfix on mac)?

  Hi, I'm not sure what I'm doing. Exchange has been working a long time. I just installed a mac mail server postfix/dovecot. They both work but not together. If I send email directly to the new server with [email protected], I can send email to the Internet and I can receive email at the [email protected]. But, if I log onto my exchange account with OWA and I put in [email protected] I never receive it and I never get any errors back in OWA or on my mac server logs. It just disappears. On the mac, I thought that as long as I had mail running and had SMTP set to allow incoming email checked it would receive email from anywhere. How can I make my Exchange server send email to the mac box if the email doesn't exist in the exchange server? Is this where I would put a new SMTP connector and a bridgehead using DNS? Thank you for any help.

• Using group policy preferences to push a file to C:\Windows on a restricted user.

  We have a really old Video learning program that we need to run from the network for our students. However it uses Director Player 6.0 and the students get the error: "Unable to copy the driver file C:\Windows\xobglu16.dll to your Windows directory. Your disk may be full" Now the solution I've read is to copy the files manually to each machine and mark them read-only. I'm trying to do this via GPP, but the Event log is showing an Access is denied error. I believe it is because the student accounts do not have permission to c:\windows. Any ideas on a work around without using a script?

  I run a Sun Ray/VDI demo environment internally within the company - and because it's not a public service, I need to tell my Sun Rays to connect to it directly so that I don't get redirected to the corporate servers. To get any new Sun Ray to connect to *my* setup I usually pull out my laptop so that the Sun Ray can load the new version of the F/W along with the permission to pull up the management GUI via STOP-S.But there is a better way if you have another Sun Ray server handy:1) allow your Sun Ray to connect to the default corporate server2) log in to a "regular" session, that is a Solaris or Linux desktop on the Sun Ray server itself3) in a terminal, utswitch to your server (/opt/SUNWut/bin/utswitch -h myserver)4) again, login to a regular session there5) in a terminal,  issue "/opt/SUNWut/lib/utload -S myserver -w"6) Watch your firmware load and wait7) the Sun Ray will reboot and connect to the first server again. Repeat steps 2-48) issue "/opt/SUNWut/lib/utload -S myserver -f SunRay.enableGUI"9) Press STOP-S and be merryNOTE: I'm sure there is even yet a better way - this is totally unsupported, most likely a figment of my imagination. In any case, this post will self-destruct in BOOM.

  Possible Duplicate: How is software deployed via Active Directory? I have trying to deploy a programs, mapped network drives and taks schedule job. I didn't manage to start a script on log on PC until I did it in Default Domain Policy. But when I did that I have installed programs on my server too. And mapped network drives, etc. So I don't know how to manage to do all of that but not to install anything on server over GPO. I still didn't manage to deploy a schedule task job on clients. I manage to put it on server bit not on clients. I need that schedule task because I need to update software on clients every week. I can't manual update flash player, adobe reader, firefox, etc on clients. And People useing client PC even doesn't know how to do it if they have abillity. Clients doesn't have admin rights.

• Rotation of bitmap using a frame by frame animation

  Hey every one I know this has probably been asked a ton of times but I just wanted to clarify if I am approaching this correctly, since I ran into some problems rotating a bitmap. So basically I have one large bitmap that has four frames drawn on it and I only draw one at a time by looping through the bitmap by increments to animate walking. I can get the bitmap to rotate correctly when it is not moving but once the animation starts it starts to cut off alot of the image and sometimes becomes very fuzzy.   How do you go about teaching Exception Handling to Programmers. All other things are taught easily - Data Structures, ASP.NET, WinForms, WPF, WCF - you name it, everything can be taught easily. With Exception Handling, teaching them try-catch-finally is just the syntactic nature of Exception Handling. What should be taught however is - What part of your code do you put in the try block? What do you do in the catch block? Let me illustrate it with an example. You are working on a Windows Forms Project (a small utility) and you have designed it as below with 3 different projects. UILayer BusinessLayer DataLayer If an Exception (let us say of loading an XDocument throws an exception) is raised at DataLayer (the UILayer calls BusinessLayer which in turns calls the DataLayer), do you just do the following //In DataLayer try { XDocument xd_XmlDocument = XDocument.Load("systems.xml"); } catch(Exception ex) { throw ex; } which gets thrown again in the BusinessLayer and which is caught in UILayer where I write it to the log file? Is this how you go about Exception Handling?

Uses a very light weight CSS and Javascript package to provide a touch-friendly interface for mobile devices. Numbers are formatted (sensitive to culture) when 1,000 or higher. CSS is more integration friendly, and specific to the ForumContainer element. Mail delivery from queue is now parallel, so you can specify a sending interval, and the number of messages to process on each interval. Background "services" refactored, and will only run with a call on app start to PopForumsActivation.StartServices(). This is partly to facilitate future use in Web farms/multiple Web roles. Update to jQuery v1.7.1. Replaced use of .live() with .on() in script, pursuant to jQuery update, which deprecates .live(). FIX: Bug in topic repository around caching keys for single-server data layer. FIX: Pager links on recent topics pointed to incorrect route. FIX: Deleting a post didn't update last user/post time. • Windows SMTP Relay Server to add BCC to all emails

  I'm looking for a Windows based SMTP Relay Server which allows me to add a specific BCC field to all outgoing emails that relayed through this server. The reason for such requirement is that we need to track if the email is actually sent. We're sending our email to end users via our cooperate email server. Currently we're receiving complaint that our end users did not receive our emails, but we don't have access to the email server's log. At the same time, our developers are using a specific library which doesn't allows adding BCC, or it's much more tedious to do so than replacing our SMTP Relay with one that add BCC. Currently we're using IIS' SMTP Server as our relay. Thanks.

• Proper way for changing MAC address in a linux VM?

  I tried to change the MAC address in a ubuntu VM (virtualbox), but after that it threw lots of errors during boot, and then I had no internet connection. Then I saw that the interface was renamed to eth1, so I edited /etc/network/interfaces to change eth0 to eth1, rebooted (didn't know how to restart the network), and boot was now faster and internet worked fine. But now after every time I log in, I get 1 or 2 error messages that say nothing, they only ask me if I want to report them. So I was wondering, is there was a proper way to change MAC address, to avoid these issues?

• Text Editor that hilights all instances of selection for Mac

  On Windows, I use Notepad++ which has the great feature of when I select a word, all instances of that word are also highlighted in the same document. I have found it very helpful for finding patterns in giant log files. I am wondering if there is a similar feature in a text editor on the Mac. I have looked into the documentation for TextWrangler and TextMate to no avail. Hopefully there is a way to do this so I can be more productive when working on a Mac. -- Note: in Notepad++ you do not have to do a keyboard shortcut to make this work... you just select some text and it does the highlighting for you automatically.

• send apache request identifier to backend when using mod_rewrite

  I'm using mod_rewrite to send requests from the client to a backend server. I've seen in the rewrite log that Apache sets a sid (Session Identifier?) and rid (request identifier?) and shows them in the logs. Would it be possible to send the rid to the backend server as a http header? that way I can link a request in the apache with a request in the backend server.
