• Unable to Get IIS Response Times with Hyperic Monitoring Tool

  We have a very large .NET application (vendor) that I am trying to gather performance metrics for using Hyperic. In general I wanted to be able to report response times for each of the components within the application, which include: Web Services ASP.NET Pages MSMQ I am currently unable to successfully monitor the response times for IIS on my windows machines. I have successfully auto-discovered them and I am getting diagnostic information, but am not getting back the response times. After looking online at what other people are seeing, I found that I am missing a tab for the response times which is usually next to the metrics tab. Also, when I look at the configuration screen for IIS I do not see a field which enables me to specify where the log files are located at. Please note that my logs are located at e:\LogFiles\ instead of the usual location because our IT staff doesn't allocate much space for the C: drive. Please note that I have the MSMQ monitors up and running great. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeremy

• Windows Server 2012 Metro shortcut icons do not show for other users

  I have installed SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint 2013 on my Windows Server 2012 machine using a dedicated domain install account. When I log into the same machine with a user account, all the icons for these applications are missing! I can still access the applications by finding them in 'Program Files', however it is very annoying. (For example, I'm not exactly sure where the SharePoint PowerShell is located, and frankly I don't want to know either) In previous versions of Windows Server, the Icons always showed up in the Start Menu. Does anyone know how I can copy the shortcuts in one account to another?

• Java issues on OpenVZ Ubuntu 11.04 (.jar/.sh files)

  I've had a whole line of messes with java and .jar files. I've tried both OpenJDK (from software installer) and about three repositories for Sun. /Desktop# java -jar -Xmx1024m ss.jar Exception in thread "main" java.awt.HeadlessException at java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment.checkHeadless(GraphicsEnvironment.java:173) at java.awt.Window.<init>(Window.java:476) at java.awt.Frame.<init>(Frame.java:419) at java.awt.Frame.<init>(Frame.java:384) at javax.swing.JFrame.<init>(JFrame.java:174) at org.powerbot.bd.<init>(Unknown Source) at org.powerbot.Boot.main(Unknown Source) Two separate errors: ~/Desktop# ./ss.sh [SEVERE] org.server.Boot: Default heap size of 490m too small, restarting with 768m and about 30 different crashes were it just "aborts" with a huge file dump. Each time I've tried something a little different, whether it be updating Java or just changing -Xmx1024 to -Xmx1024m to get rid of the heap. • Prepare bootable Mac OS install usb on Windows

  Hello, Is there any software out there that can simulate Disk Utility (Mac app) for Windows? I need to reinstall leopard on my Mac because I screwed something up on the current OS. The thing is, the DVD drive is broken on there, so I need to prepare a bootable USB drive from my Leopard DMG file. This is easily done with the Disk Utility app on the Mac. But seeing how my cannot even log on to my Mac right now, I don't know how to prepare that USB stick. The only other machine I have is a PC with Windows 7. If anyone has any suggestion, please help me out! Thanks so much!

• gitosis always asks for git password

  I've just followed the simple gitosis install instructions on an Ubuntu server, such as these http://blog.agdunn.net/?p=277 On the server I log in as "mark", and into /home/mark/.ssh/ I copied my keyfiles id_rsa and id_rsa.pub from my laptop. I used that id_rsa.pub when initialising the gitosis stuff, and can happily connect locally when logged in as 'mark'. From my laptop though, where I have the same keys, I can't connect. I just get an error: git clone git@support:gitosis-admin.git Initialized empty Git repository in u:/gitosis-admin/.git fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly The server is Ubuntu 9.04, the client is a Win7 laptop with Cygwin and WinSysGit.

• DVD Drive can read a DVD title and file contents (very slowly) but not play DVDs

  I've been able to watch DVDs in the past on this computer when it was running XP. I recently upgraded to windows 7 and haven't watched a DVD since then. I put a DVD in and it took quite a long time but windows finally found the disk title, and I was able to explore directories (saw folder like VIDEO_TS). The problem is when I try to have video players play the DVD I just get an error in VLC. It wouldn't tell me the exact error (said to check the log and I don't know where that is). Do I have to install some special drivers/certs in windows 7 to play video?

• Xerox Workcentre 3119 and Linux

  I'm trying to get Xerox Workcentre 3119 printer to work on Linux. It's a multifunction device (printer and scanner). I run the CUPS web interface at: http://localhost:631/ and it recognizes it on USB port and even suggests Gutenprint driver from the list. When I try to print a test page, the printer goes through "warming up" process (i.e. lights blink and sound is heard) but does not print anything. There are no errors in /var/log/cups/error_log and access_log shows as if everything is ok. The printer works fine in Windows XP. Does anyone have any experience with this printer on Linux?

• Troubleshooting Windows Server 2012 storage spaces

  I'm trying the new "Storage Pools" feature on Windows Server 2012, and I've created several disks on the pool. When I restart the server, some of the disks (two, out of four) do not attach automatically, and don't show up in the list of disks. I can go to Server Manager File and Storage Services Storage Pools, and the faulty disks are listed with a yellow triangle beside them. The drive health in the properties are "unknown". But if I right-click and choose attach, the disk comes online, with all the content on it intact. But after another restart, it's the same story. I didn't find any relevant event in the event log, how can I find out why the drives are not attaching?

• SharePoint 2010 not seeing Active Directory users

  I'm pretty new to Active Directory and SharePoint but I was given to understand they are supposed to play well together. Now I have successfully set up AD with multiple user accounts that work on any member computer. I have also successfully installed SharePoint 2010 Server on an AD machine. Both the AD server and SharePoint servers are on separate machines (VMs running on ESXi to be precise). I can only log on with user accounts I create on the local server. Furthermore the user browser thing for adding users will only see local users. I've followed the advice here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262350.aspx#section2 for Classic authentication and also NTLM claims based authentication but to no avail. Is there something fundamental I am getting wrong here? I'd be really thankful for any help you can lend me; I've been googling and scratching my head for a couple of days now. P

• SQL Server agent died

  3 SQL server agents stopped and didn't restart automatically untill we manually restarted them. SQL servers are on SQL 2005 X86 standard edition. The error message that was reported in Application log was: Faulting application sqlagent90.exe, version 2005.90.4211.0, stamp 49837478, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.4480, stamp 49c51f0a, debug? 0, fault address 0x0000bef7. No errors were reported in SQL server logs or SQl agent logs. Does anyone know what this means? I tried to Google but no luck. Thanks in advance!

• Windows 7 / Windows Vista won't connect to 802.1x RADIUS Server

  I've deployed Radius and have no problems connecting with TTLS, PEAP, or MD5 using linux, mac, and windows xp. For Windows 7 and Vista, I'm never prompted with the dialog box to enter username & password after configuring 802.1x support on the client. Steps taken: Enabled Wired Autoconfig in services.msc Set to use PEAP Set to require user authentication When I enable the network connection it says "Trying to authenticate" then fails with no error log / message given. The radius server gives no indication that there was ever a request (no Access-Reject - the client simply never tries to authenticate). On the windows 7 client, I can see that the DHCP server does not assign an IP to the client when 802.1x is enabled on the client (though it does when it isn't). How can I debug this further? Has anyone else run into a similar situation? My radius server is freeradius on Ubuntu 11.10.

  I installed Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition on my Windows 7 Pro. My problem is that I cannot log into database from other host (local network). When I connect to database using Oracle SQLdeveloper everything is ok as long as I specify 'localhost' in connection configuration. However, when I change it to '192.168.0.190' which is my host IP address I get 'The Network Adapter could not establish the connection'. I get the same error when logging in from other host in local network. What is the problem?

  I am using LDAP authentication on my Ubuntu 11.10 server. I installed libpam-ldap, and configured things accordingly. It works great, except that I get this error every once in a while when I try to sudo: sudo: setreuid(ROOT_UID, user_uid): Operation not permitted I know I have sudoers set up correctly, since it works most of the time. It's not just my log in either, others have the same problem when I have it. When this error is occurring, I can't ssh in with my regular system user at all. When I sign in directly, I can't get any gnome-terminal to start. Once I restart the server, the problem goes away. 'Course, that's not a solution, if it was a prod server, I'd be in trouble. How do I fix this? Edit 3/1/12: I just figured out that if stop and start the nscd service, the problem goes away. service nscd stop service nscd start Not much of a solution since I have to be logged into the server directly, not via ssh.

Unfortunately it wasn't logged or run under screen, or any other way that lets us easily capture the output. The best method we've been able to come up with so far is: Log into the machine via a separate SSH session In the console session, page to the top of the buffer Repeat: In the SSH session, run "cat /dev/vcs >> screendump.txt" In the console session, page down one screen Dump the final screen in the SSH session Is there a better way? It seems like if the VC memory were contiguous and you knew where it was you could use dd to pull the console text directly out of kernel memory and into a file.

• How do you get SharePoint back in sync when you change a user's sAMAccountName?

  I have observed on SharePoint 2010 that if you change the sAMAccountName of a user after the user has logged into a SharePoint site collection, the tp_Login field in the UserInfo table does not get updated. It still has the old user Id. While the user can log into SharePoint under the new account, these new logins do not update the table. I have code that looks at the SPUser.LoginName and this value appears to be the tp_Login field value which is now old. The fact that this value is old causes my code to fail. I suspect this behavior is identical in SharePoint 2007. Is there any way to force SharePoint to recognize the new sAMAccountName? I suspect that profile synchronization might help, but I would like for my solution to work with WSS 3.0 and SharePoint 2010 Foundation. I considered manually updating the database table, but I would like to stick with supported approaches.

  Instead of just letting your application crash, you can attach a method to the DispatcherUnhandledExceptionEventHandler and one to the AppDomain.Current.UnhandledException.  You wire these up in the code behind of your application which by default is App.xaml.cs.  You can log these errors or throw up a message Don Box and tell the user what happened.  Then you shut down the app gracefully.  You shut it down because something bad happened that you weren’t expecting and at this point there is no guarantee as to the state of the stack or memory or anything really.  All bets are off. If, on the other hand, the method for the UnhandledException is empty and the method for the DispatcherUnhandledEventHandler ends up in a call to a method called LogError() and the LogError() method is FUCKING EMPTY, and you just swallow the exceptions and keep on running, then, not so much.  I spent nearly a day trying to track down a bug that would have been obvious had something been logged or if it just crashed.  It’s my own fault I suppose.  I knew these were hooked up.  I just never suspected that there wouldn’t be any implementation at all.  Live and learn. • How to restrict user to a particular folder in CentOS 6?

  I will need to create users so developers can log in and clone/pull/push changes/repositories from a github like platform. I've managed to add a user (using the root) to this CentOS machine; I now have this line in /etc/passwd: chris:x:32008:32010::/home/chris/public_html:/bin/bash ..and this in /etc/shadow: chris:$1$ruUeLtTu$onAY2hdu1J.UmHajEIlmR.:15385:0:99999:7::: I am able to SSH the server, I have permission to create a folder and I guess that should be enough. But I am able to see other files and folders outside public_html. How can I actually restrict the user to a particular directory so he can't "cd out" of his folder?   I have a Billion BiPac 7700N Modem/Router/Access Point and I connect another router (TP-Link TL-WR1043ND) in wan-bypass mode to extend the wireless coverage. Lately, I noticed that the connection through TP-Link has been dropping out quite regularly. Having read some posts on the Internet, I checked system log on 7700N and found that there are many "nf_conntract: expectation table full" errors, which I suppose the iptables are full. My questions: What does constitute an entry on the iptable? Is it a client or a connection (which means one client can have multiple connections) How could I find out where are those connections originated from? Note: Many reported that the issue is usually related to having torrents running but I don't have any torrents running. Thank you.

• Ubuntu 10.04 not detecting multiple monitors

  I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card? How do I get this to work. Thanks.   I have a bootable DVD which boots the same Kernel as the Hard Drive (which uses SELinux). I have copied /etc/selinux and all the kernel modules to my ramdisk, and have tried both selinux=1 and selinux 1 as Kernel boot parameters. After the system boots, I check dmesg: % dmesg | grep -i selinux Kernel command line: initrd=idrd.img ramdisk_size=110476 selinux=1 SELinux: Initializing. • Recover RAID 5 data after created new array instead of re-using

  Folks please help - I am a newb with a major headache at hand (perfect storm situation). I have a 3 1tb hdd on my ubuntu 11.04 configured as software raid 5. The data had been copied weekly onto another separate off the computer hard drive until that completely failed and was thrown away. A few days back we had a power outage and after rebooting my box wouldn't mount the raid. In my infinite wisdom I entered mdadm --create -f... command instead of mdadm --assemble and didn't notice the travesty that I had done until after. It started the array degraded and proceeded with building and syncing it which took ~10 hours. After I was back I saw that that the array is successfully up and running but the raid is not I mean the individual drives are partitioned (partition type f8 ) but the md0 device is not. Realizing in horror what I have done I am trying to find some solutions. I just pray that --create didn't overwrite entire content of the hard driver. Could someone PLEASE help me out with this - the data that's on the drive is very important and unique ~10 years of photos, docs, etc. Is it possible that by specifying the participating hard drives in wrong order can make mdadm overwrite them? when I do mdadm --examine --scan I get something like ARRAY /dev/md/0 metadata=1.2 UUID=f1b4084a:720b5712:6d03b9e9:43afe51b name=<hostname>:0 Interestingly enough name used to be 'raid' and not the host hame with :0 appended. After the re-creating of the raid I run fsck.ext4 /dev/md0 and here is the output root@tanserv:/etc/mdadm# fsck.ext4 /dev/md0 e2fsck 1.41.14 (22-Dec-2010) fsck.ext4: Superblock invalid, trying backup blocks... fsck.ext4: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/md0 The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock: e2fsck -b 8193 Per Shanes' suggestion I tried root@tanserv:/home/mushegh# mkfs.ext4 -n /dev/md0 mke2fs 1.41.14 (22-Dec-2010) Filesystem label= OS type: Linux Block size=4096 (log=2) Fragment size=4096 (log=2) Stride=128 blocks, Stripe width=256 blocks 122101760 inodes, 488379392 blocks 24418969 blocks (5.00%) reserved for the super user First data block=0 Maximum filesystem blocks=0 14905 block groups 32768 blocks per group, 32768 fragments per group 8192 inodes per group Superblock backups stored on blocks: 32768, 98304, 163840, 229376, 294912, 819200, 884736, 1605632, 2654208, 4096000, 7962624, 11239424, 20480000, 23887872, 71663616, 78675968, 102400000, 214990848 and run fsck.ext4 with every backup block but all returned the following: root@tanserv:/home/mushegh# fsck.ext4 -b 214990848 /dev/md0 e2fsck 1.41.14 (22-Dec-2010) fsck.ext4: Invalid argument while trying to open /dev/md0 The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem.
