• phonegap crash on "resume"

  My phonegap application works great but there is a glitch when it is sent to the background or "paused". When focused is returned to the app a high percentage of the time the interface is frozen and then the application crashes a few seconds later. When relaunched it is working fine again. Could anyone provide some information as to what could be causing this and where I should start trying to debug it? Thanks very much.

• When creating a new IIS web site, how can I add it to an existing application pool?

  I have successfully automated the process of creating a new IIS website, however the code I've written doesn't care about application pools, it just gets added to DefaultAppPool. However I'd like to add this newly created site to an existing application pool.   I'm trying to convince my co-workers to switch from a web site project to a web application project, because I want the use of the project file. However I can't diffuse this argument against: The web site project allows each page to be compiled into a single dll. Their argument is this enables easy fixing of errors found after publishing. This is contrast to how the web application project compiles all code behind into a single dll. Is updating a single page's dll essentially different to updating the entire site's dll? Is there some way to compile each page's code behind into a seperate dll in the web application project? Are there some prohibitive (performance,memory?) costs to compiling each page's code behind into seperate dll's that we are unaware of? Why is the feature(?) to compile each page to separate dlls in web site projects and not web app projects?

• Fluent NHib causing visual studio 2010 hanging at runtime

  Just installed and migrated a 2008 solution on Vista ultimate 64 and .net 4.0. Everything builds and tests run surprisingly well but I got the hang description below while trying to run the app under SQLite. It turns out that the hang has got something to do when the call is made for FNH to build the session factory during a run, the only feedback I get is that the database wasn't configure properly without any inner exception. The strange part is that the exact code works perfectly under tests. Any clues? Description: A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows. • Is there a standard practice for storing default application data?

  Our application includes a default set of data. The default data includes coefficients and other factors that are unlikely to ever change but still need to be update-able by the user. Currently, the original default data is stored as a populated class within the application. Data updates are stored to an external XML file. This design allows us to include a "reset" feature to restore the original default data. Our rationale for not storing defaults externally [e.g. XML file] was to minimize the risk of being altered. The overall volume of data doesn't warrant a database. Is there a standard practice for storing "default" application data?

• Is there any Application Server Frameworks for other languages/platforms than JavaEE and .NET?

  I'm a CS student and has rare experience from the enterprise software industry. When I'm reading about enterprise software platforms, I mostly read about these two: Java Enterprise Edition, JavaEE .NET and Windows Communication Foundation By "enterprise software platforms" I mean frameworks and application servers with support for the same characteristics as J2EE and WCF has: [JavaEE] provide functionality to deploy fault-tolerant, distributed, multi-tier Java software, based largely on modular components running on an application server. WCF is designed in accordance with service oriented architecture principles to support distributed computing where services are consumed by consumers. Clients can consume multiple services and services can be consumed by multiple clients. Services are loosely coupled to each other. Is there any alternatives to these two "enterprise software platforms"? Isn't any other programming languages used in a bigger rate for this problem area? I.e Why isn't there any popular application servers for C++/Qt?

• Do you have to call .Save() when modifying a application setting that is bound to a control property

  I am programming in .NET I have an application setting of type string. On my form I have a textbox. I bound the text property of the textbox to my application setting. If I type something in the textbox it changes the value that is held in the Application setting but the next time I start the program it goes back to the default value. Do I need to call Properties.Settings.Default.Save(); after the text is entered for the new value to be saved? Shouldn't it do this automatically? Is there a way I can make it do it automatically?

• Set Context User Principal for Customized Authentication in SignalR

When I need to implement some features that needs real-time communication and push notifications from server side I decided to use SignalR. SignalR is a project currently developed by Microsoft to build web-based, read-time communication application. You can find it here. With a lot of introductions and guides it's not a difficult task to use SignalR with ASP.NET WebAPI and AngularJS. I followed this and this even though it's based on SignalR 1. But when I tried to implement the authentication for my SignalR I was struggled 2 days and finally I got a solution by myself. This might not be the best one but it actually solved all my problem.   In many articles it's said that you don't need to worry about the authentication of SignalR since it uses the web application authentication. For example if your web application utilizes form authentication, SignalR will use the user principal your web application authentication module resolved, check if the principal exist and authenticated. But in my solution my ASP.NET WebAPI, which is hosting SignalR as well, utilizes OAuth Bearer authentication. So when the SignalR connection was established the context user principal was empty. So I need to authentication and pass the principal by myself.   Firstly I need to create a class which delivered from "AuthorizeAttribute", that will takes the responsible for authenticate when SignalR connection established and any method was invoked. 1: public class QueryStringBearerAuthorizeAttribute : AuthorizeAttribute 2: { 3: public override bool AuthorizeHubConnection(HubDescriptor hubDescriptor, IRequest request) 4: { 5: } 6:  7: public override bool AuthorizeHubMethodInvocation(IHubIncomingInvokerContext hubIncomingInvokerContext, bool appliesToMethod) 8: { 9: } 10: } The method "AuthorizeHubConnection" will be invoked when any SignalR connection was established. Then I retrieve the token from request query string and unprotect it. If I got a valid ticket with identity and it's authenticated this means it's a valid token. Then I pass the user principal into request's environment property which can be used in nearly future. Since my website was built in AngularJS so the SignalR client was in pure JavaScript, and it's not support to set customized HTTP headers in SignalR JavaScript client, I have to pass the Bearer token through request query string. This is not a restriction of SignalR, but a restriction of WebSocket. For security reason WebSocket doesn't allow client to set customized HTTP headers from browser. If so, what I need is to pass the principal into context so that SignalR hub can use. Since the "User" property is all read-only in "hubIncomingInvokerContext", I have to create a new "ServerRequest" instance with principal assigned, and set to "hubIncomingInvokerContext.Hub.Context". • Remove application entry from switch-app menu

  What am I trying to achieve? I am writing a windows-form based application in C# .NET 2.0. The application should behave like this: No form should be visible; just a system tray icon is the entire application. So, I have to hide the form during startup and make a NotifyIcon available in the system tray with a ContextMenuStrip attached to it. What have I done so far? I have created a Windows application with the default form's properties WindowState-Minimized and ShowInTaskbar-false. Added a NotifyIcon and attached a ContextMenuStrip to it. What's happening? The application starts as a system tray icon and the form is hidden. So far so good. But when I am working with other applications and when I switch between other application using the Alt-Tab combination in Windows, the application icon appears in the switch-application menu; and when I select my application, the form appears. What's expected? The application should not be available in the switch-application menu; because, the form is empty and there is no functionality attached to it. All that is needed is the system-tray icon. How to hide the application entry from the switch-application menu? Thanks.

• Application that will identify percentage of your system disk bandwidth used on a user-application by user-application basis?

  I always (subjectively) feel my computer is far too slow (however fast it is), and so I'm always looking for ways to measure and understand what my computer is actually doing, that is making it seem "slow" to me. It has been my observation that my software-developer workload is most often disk-bound (I am waiting for Disk I/O) more than CPU bound. What has made it worse, is that I am using a corporate PC that has in-memory active-scanning anti-virus software that I do not have control over, and also some IT department mandated services that seem to suck up a lot of available hard-disk bandwidth. The best tool I have seen (in Windows 7) is the Resource Monitor which I usually acess from the button in the task Manager. The disk IO page, however, seems to label Disk Activity at a very low level (for example, showing the Volume Shadow Storage, which is flushing information obviously written by something ELSE other than VSS itself, and then writes to Pagefile.sys, which are obviously due to Virtual Memory faults in some application). What I would like to know is if a utility exists that can add up all direct disk input and output by user-level process, or find the process or service that caused VM or VSS activity. In that way, I hope, you could establish a real idea of how much of your computer's precious disk subsystem bandwidth is attributable to a particular application. here's a scenario: MyApp.exe writes 100k/s and reads 100k/s directly. VSS ends up writing another 100k/s. pagefaults caused inside MyApp.exe cause another 100k/s of writes. So the total "cost" of MyApp.exe running, during a period of time (let's say 1 second) is 400k/s, whereas you can only directly observe half of that, in Resource Monitor. Is there a smarter disk-IO watching piece of software I can use?

• Apache - child process exited with status 255

  I am running Windows 7 64-bit with an older version of (Apache 2.0.59) and PHP 5.2 - just switched from XP and wanted to keep the same versions. Everything will initially be working fine, but then I'll be trying to load a page and Apache crashes. I'll get an error in the browser that says "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." Then Apache stops running. Sometimes it can be restarted, but then crashes again on the next page load. Sometimes it can't even be restarted at all. Looking in the Apache error logs, I see a series of messages that goes something like: [notice] Apache/2.0.59 (Win32) PHP/5.2.13 configured -- resuming normal operations [notice] Server built: Jul 27 2006 15:55:03 [notice] Parent: Created child process 1220 [notice] Child 1220: Child process is running [notice] Child 1220: Acquired the start mutex. I have just come from Win XP where I never had any problems - is this an issue with my Apache version on Win7? Or perhaps it's a configuration issue?   When I try to start Outlook 2007, my system freezes, and Outlook says it is "synchonizing folders". I don't use exchange, and haven't seen any answers online. I've tried turning off the exchange integration (right clicking my folders) Since doing the latter, there is no longer an icon in the system tray when this is frozen (there was before) UPDATE: It seems my anti-virus program (comodo) was what was actually locking during Outlook file synch. I disabled that, and things seemed to settle down.

• Macbook OSX applications crashing on startup

  Closed my computer last night, went home. Opened it and it had restarted. Now when I open a couple programs such as Adobe Fireworks or Appcelerator Titanium they throw up a nasty error like below. Other programs (Chrome, Firefox, Textmate, Versions) works fine. Any thoughts on this? I haven't owned my Macbook long so I'm not even aware of the right tools or places to look to track this down. Any help would be most appreciated. It's making it hard to get my work done :] If it helps at all both those programs were probably open when it restarted. From the look of it I'm not sure if it's a permissions error or something? I completely re-installed on of the applications Titanium. Didn't seem to help.   Posting from my laptop, as my Compaq desktop crashed. Not very computer saavy, and not sure what info I should provide...but here's a start: 9 year old desktop Compaq SR 1650NX, AMD Athlon 3500+ probably 1 gB ram (duh....) Was running 12.04....was attempting to upgrade to 14.04, not sure if I interrupted it. Pretty much stuck on (constantly redirected to) a page which says "GNU Grub version 1.99-2"; it offers several choices (as written): Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-67-generic Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-67-generic (recovery mode) Previous Linux versions Memory Test (memtest86+) Memory Test (memtest86+, serial console 115200) But none of the selections seem to be able to get me anywhere (i.e., I click yes, but can't seem to run any commands - not that I know anything useful); I escape from those pages by repeatedly hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL Any help would be appreciated; will provide additional info when requested.   5 minutes after I turn on my PC the onboard graphics card is usually over 80° celsius and then crashes (random colors on screen, only way to get out is to just plug out the pc). I haven't installed any new drivers or added/changed hardware recently Everything went fine until yesterday What should I do next? Do I have to buy a new mainboard right now? There is no fan on the onboard graphics card, only a heatsink.

• Firefox 3.5.6 causes entire computer to freeze

  Here's the situation: Environment: Just installed a fresh copy of Win7 Pro 32-bit to NTFS partition on 750GB SATA drive Hardware: E8400 3GHz ASUS P5QL Pro 4GB DDR2 1066 RAM EVGA 9800 GTX+ Plenty of cooling, no problems with hardware before Data is stored on a separate partition, including My Documents No security software is yet installed No extensions installed yet Problem: While using Firefox, sometimes the entire computer will freeze/hang. I get no mouse or keyboard input, can't CTRL+ALT+DEL, no "not responding" indication, just a static image on my display. My drivers are all up to date as far as I'm aware (I just installed this copy of Windows last week). I first noticed this when trying to install Xmarks. I went to the Xmarks site and tried to install and it would freeze. I managed to get it installed (Safe mode and the Mozilla addon site worked), but when I go to configure it (log in, etc), the computer freezes. I don't think it's a matter of usage time or memory issues, because while testing, I browsed wallpaper galleries for about 30 minutes, sometimes as many as 12-15 tabs open at a time, without issue. Sometimes I won't even try to install Xmarks at it will hang. I can install (some) other extensions, the only one I've tried is download status bar (which works). What I've done to try to fix: Restarted (duh) Windows safe mode Completely remove Firefox and install it to a new directory, according to Mozilla's KB (I haven't tried the profile manager, though I assume this does the same thing, except perhaps more thoroughly) Some BIOS changes, including Power options, disabling oveclocking (it was a modest overclock on the CPU, which has run Win7 beta and RC for almost a year now) Memtest Used another Windows user profile, same tragic results I'm STUCK now, with no idea what to do. I'm using Chrome as my main browser at the moment, but that's not something I want to be stuck with. I like Firefox and want to use it. I'm going to try creating a new profile first. One thing I did notice: I started leaving task manager and performance monitor open when anticipating (but dreading) a freeze. firefox.exe had low CPU and low memory, but it looked like overall disk usage was seeing some spikes on the small graph Performance Monitor gives you. I saw on one blog post a fellow using XP moved his Local Settings directory from a separate drive to his main drive, and that solved it, but I don't think my AppData directory is on my D: drive, and that's on the same physical device anyways. Still, something that might be worth trying. I'd extremely appreciate any help. Thanks very much. I really don't want to reinstall Windows from scratch again :( Anthony Aziz

• powerpoint make computer shut down on dell optiplex 760

  hello, At my office we upgraded group of computers to windows 7 + office 2010, few of us have problem that when we work on powerpoint - once in a while the computer suddenly shut down (with out any message). Some of us - has no such problems. We checked and fount that the people who experience problems - use Dell Optiplex 760 PC, and everyone that have no problems use other models. We also found out that the processors of the 760's are not the same - some are Intel E7400 and one is Intel E8400, so I suspect that maybe the mother board is the problem Does any one no this problem? Does any one have an idea about it? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Yael

• Win7 x64 running on VMWare Workstation 6.5.2 on Win7 x64 crashes host on resume

  I'm running Windows 7 x64 on top of Windows 7 x64 using VMWare Workstation 6.5.2. If I suspend the VM and then try to resume the host BSODs. I am able to successfully resume a different VM (running Windows 2003 x32). BlueScreenView says the culprit driver is vmx86.sys, at address vmx86.sys+3798 (its always this address, if that means anything to anyone). Any ideas?
